Coaster Desk Frame

I made the cutest little desk frame out of two 4×4 coasters the other day.  This is one of the projects we made/are making in my class this month.  coaster-frame

The paper is from the Pink Flamingo paper and I used the Summer Sun print with the flowers.  Each piece is cut to 4×4 and I used an Anywhere Glue stick to adhere the paper to the coasters.  I trimmed the edges with my paper snips.  The reason I don’t use my corner rounder punch is because it is not the same corner as the coasters so it is easier to just use paper snips.  Then I like to sand the edges with a sanding block.  We embossed on the designer paper using the Upsy Daisy stamp set – stamp in VersaMark ink and use white embossing powder.  Then heat set the embossing powder.  I did one before applying the paper to the coaster and I did another one after applying the paper to the coaster.  I felt like the heat tool caused the coaster to warp a little but after lying flat over night it wasn’t noticeable any more so it might not really make a difference.  I put the two coaster together and marked and punched the holes using my Crop-A-Dile.  Then tied the Bermuda Bay ribbon through to hold the two coaster together.  I stamped “always on my mind, forever in my heart” from the Stem Sayings stamp set using the Bermuda Bay ink above my flowers.  The Bermuda Bay card stock is corner rounded with the corner punch and stuck on the right side with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  My pictures is actually just held on by the little clip from the Clips Assortment.  I tied a piece of the Bermuda Bay Polka Dot Ribbon on the clip.

The picture is Greg and I at the beach earlier this month.  You might remember me telling you about the infection Greg had in his lymph nodes/neck area.  If you look carefully at the picture you can see that on the left side of the picture his neck is swollen and the other side his neck is normal.  In this picture he was already getting better (it was worse the week before) and now it is almost completely gone.  I think he has one more follow up with the doctor in a couple of weeks.

Don’t forget to join me for the ROYAL BLOG TOUR that starts at midnight!

Have a great day!

Christmas Tags

Hopefully I haven’t already shown this project on my blog – I looked and couldn’t find it….

This was another project from the online class I took – Simply Babies – it was originally a baby project that I altered for a Christmas project using the new Hostess set called Christmas Punch.box-of-tags It is a Level 2 Hostess set and has Christmas images that fit with our punches.

This project is just an open box on the bottom (Kraft card stock sponged with Whisper White craft ink)  – wrapped with Old Olive card stock and Chocolate Chip Patterns Designer Paper.  Each tag matches the box and then has a different image from the stamp set on the front.  The top of each tag has a Jumbo Eyelet in it and then they are all tied with different ribbons and embellished with brads, buttons and linen thread.  I just grabbed all the different Old Olive and Chocolate Chip ribbons that I had and got buttons and jumbo brads too.

I made 12 tags – 2 of each design.  The snowflakes in the set fit perfectly in the Boho Blossom punch – so all three punch right out in a snap!  The other images match punches too – including the tag punch, designer label, scallop square, scallop oval and wide oval.  There is also a “to:/from:” stamp that you can add to the top or back of each tag.

I’ll be working on some more of the projects from the class as I get time.

Thanks for stopping by today!

I am headed to band camp as a volunteer this evening.  Since they are sharing the football field with the football team the band has their practices starting at 1 and running until 8 at night.

Birthday Party for Natalie

Last weekend I did a birthday party for Natalie.  We had a fun all girls afternoon.  Natalie had three friends come over for her party and her mom, Becky, and I.  I showed the girls how to make their very own Paper Bag Scrapbook and then we made little purses using the Big Shot die-cut machine.  Back in June when Becky was planning the birthday party she said that Natalie loved pink and green so we went through the catalog to find the perfect paper – it turned out to be the Raspberry Tart Designer Series paper and the girls all loved it.  I used the same pack pf paper for their scrapbooks and their purses.  The scrapbook was one I had designed a couple of years ago and uses an old Stampin’ Up! stamp set that I still think is perfect for this project. The paper bag scrapbook is full of pockets and the stamp set is about pockets and friends and how you can never have too many.  Here are some pictures from this fun after noon and a close up of the two projects we made.

It was so nice to hear the comments from the girls as they made their projects.  They all said this was the best party they had ever been too.

For the Top Note purse the girls got to use the Big Shot die-cut machine.  They lined up and ran their paper through for the different dies – we used the Top Note and the Flower Daisies die.  The girls thought it was so cool how their shapes popped right out after they rolled the paper through the machine.natalie-big-shot-sm

Becky, Natalie’s mom, wants to do this for her own birthday next year.

Making mini scrapbooks is a fun project and there are endless ideas out there.  The paper bag scrapbook is just one and is perfect for little girls.nalaie-stamping

Have fun stamping with your friends!  And if you want to have a birthday party let me know.

Flight of the Butterfly

Today is Sunday and I will shortly be headed to a birthday party!  I’m so excited because it is a little girls birthday party – I haven’t been to one of those in a long time – and I’m teaching them how to make a paper bag scrapbook and the little top note purse.  I’ll post pictures of our projets later in the week.

I was very excited to see that we had a new Butterfly Punch in the catalog.  It coordinates with the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set so I decided to use these for one of the Stamper’s Club projects on Friday night.  I was a bit dissapointed after I started playing because the punch is designed to fit the butterfly wings – but once you add the body stamp (the 2-step stampin’) and punch it punches off the atenna – unless you don’t center the butterfly in the punch – but who wants that.  I’m going to write Stampin’ Up! about it – I need to take some pictures so that I can show them exactly what I am talking about.  For this card though I added cross-stitch thread to the centers to create the body and antenna.

butterfly-cardI used the new Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series paper and three of the new In-colors – Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Melon Mango.  The card front was also embossed with the new Perfect Details Texture plate.

My  card sketch came from the Stamping411 blog – but it was last weeks sketch and I finish my card too late to put it in for the challenge.  So yesterday the new sketch was posted and I decided to take the same pieces and convert the card to the new sketch for this week.  This ended up being my swap for our STARZ meeting last night.  I haven’t taken a picture yet, but will do that later toady – so I’ll post that version of this card (and add it to the 411 blog) tomorrow.  I’m planning to use it also as one of my convention swaps since I had extra’s left from the meeting.

I also made a few extra of the Red, White and Blue card from yesterday and I’ll take those to convention too.  Now to plan the rest and start making them.   Convention is less than a month away and I’m so excited – I can’t wait to get there.  I’m rooming with Sue, Michele and Diane again.  We had the best time last year and this year will be even better!

Have a great weekend.

The Cutest Cupcake Box

cupcake-boxI made this cute box the other day.  The pattern and idea came from an  online class that I am taking called Simply Babies by Heather Summers who is a demonstrator in Canada.  While her projects are all baby related and I don’t really need baby projects her work is so great and most things can be adapted to anything you want.  I haven’t been able to create all the projects – there is a new one each day – but I have made a few.

This one is a cupcake box that I made for my friend Gina who had a birthday while I was away on vacation.  Gina likes bright colors so I thought the new Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper would be just perfect for her.  I used three of the new In-Colors – Melon Mambo (the pink color), Crushed Curry (the yellow color), and Rich Razzleberry (the purple color).  The stamp set is the Great Friend stamp set – one of my favorites as you can tell because I am using it a lot.  It debuted in the Occasions mini catalog.  The butterfly is done with the Rock ‘n’ Roll technique because I wanted it to kind of look like the paper which has the Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry colors blending together.

To do the Rock ‘n Roll technique follow these easy steps:

  1. Choose two colors of ink that will work together – one lighter than the other.  In this case mine are Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry – where Melon Mambo is the lighter color.
  2. Tap your solid image stamp into the light-colored ink – Melon Mambo.
  3. Press the edges of the stamp in a rolling motion on the darker ink pad – Rich Razzleberry, being careful not to ink the center of the stamp.

This gives the lighter Melon Mambo color in the center of the butterfly and the Rich Razzleberry around the edges.  I cut out the butterfly and added cross-stitch thread to the center to create a body and antenna for the butterfly.  The tag is made using one of the large sized metal edge tags.  The 1-3/4″ circle punch is the perfect circle to fit on the tag – I used Crushed Curry and stamped “for you” in Rich Razzleberry ink.  The butterfly is attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals to give it a 3-D effect.

cupcake-box-openI created my lid a bit differently than Heather made her orignal design – I changed two things.  First before assembling the lid I used the Scallop Edge punch on each edge to create the lid border.  Make sure to trim the tabs on so that they can be attached inside without seeing them behind the scallops.  Also before assemble I punched a slit using the Horizontal slot punch on two sides of the box – these are in the edge corner where the side fold down.  I made them wide enough to slide my ribbon through.  This allowed me to tie the ribbon through the lid of the box and it doesn’t have to be untied to remove the lid.  I am so bad at tying bows once I “get it” I don’t want to undo it.

The inside of the box has an insert with a circle cut out of the center – used the Circle Scissor Plus – that holds the cupcake in place so it doesn’t slide around.  The picture doesn’t actually have the cupcake inside – just the liner to show you.  I was able to add the cupcake with a candle in it – the box was tall enough for that.

I really loved how it all turned out and think this would be a cute little birthday present to give someone that maybe you wouldn’t normally buy a gift for but want to acknowledge them with a special surprise!

I took Gina her cupcake yesterday afternoon and she was surprised to find it inside when she opened the box.  We lit the candle and she made a wish – but to her surprise (and actually to mine) – the candle re-lit!  My boys like to use the trick candles and when I grabbed one it never crossed my mind that it would be one of those.  I just picked one with pink colored stripes – which of course are the leftovers since I have boys we don’t usually use the pink candles unless they make a cake for me.

Anyway – hope you day is full of fun and surprises!
