Hands On Class – In-Color Convention Swaps

At my class this month I decided to use cards that I received at convention – as I looked through them all I ended up pulling several that were my favorite and realized they represented most of the In-Colors so that ended up being my “theme” for the class.  I chose cards that featured the In-Colors.  We made 5 cards total (one card featured 2 of the In-Colors) and stamped matching envelopes for each card.  I generally kept the card designs exactly the same as the original creator except one that I didn’t have the stamp set for – so I replaced it with one I did have that I thought would give the same results.  Lisa came to class and added her own little twist to each card and this afternoon she signed up as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – whoo hoo!  Welcome Lisa to my PAWS team.

Most of the cards I used came from the Shoebox swap that I participated in – some of them I know who designed them and others I don’t.  So if someone knows the original creator I’ll add their name here – just leave me a comment.

RR--Thoughts-&-PrayersThis first card features the Rich Razzleberry In-Color.  The stamp set is Thoughts & Prayers and also Flight of the Butterfly.  The Designer Series Paper is the Cottage Wall Paper.  The original swap from convention used the Old Olive Patterns Designer Series Paper.

The stamp was inked up using the Stampin’ & Write Markers – Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry (yeah for In-Color Markers!) , and Pale Plum.  The Pale Plum card stock was punched with the Eyelet Border Punch.

A little paper clip was tied with a piece of Rich Razzleberry Polka-Dot Ribbon.

The original card had a smaller “Thinking of You” stamped and punched with the Large Oval punch and then mounted on the Scallop Oval punched piece of Rich Razzleberry.  I used the saying from the Thoughts & Prayers set which was larger – so mine is stamped and punched with the Scallop Oval and then mounted on a Wide Oval punched piece of Rich Razzleberry.  Either one looked great.

The envelope was stamped to match the card.

I don’t know who designed this one – it was from the Shoebox Swap at the Shilo Hotel on Tuesday night before convention.

MM-Baroque-MotifsThe second card features the Melon Mambo In-Color.  The stamp sets I used was Baroque Motifs and Sincere Salutations.

This card was also from the Shoebox Swap and was designed by Janice Felty.  Her original design used the large flower image from the Razzle Dazzle stamp set.  Since I didn’t have that set I replaced it with one that I did have.

The Whisper White layer is punched on one side with the scallop edge punch.  Then we positioned it on the front of the card and punched through the Whisper White and Melon Mambo card stock with the Scallop Oval punch to create a window.

Using a piece of Window Sheet and White StazOn ink the greeting from Sincere Salutations was stamped and then sandwiched between the two pieces of cardstock to make the window.

The Melon Mambo Polka Dot ribbon was tied in a knot and then wrapped around the front of the card and secured on the inside.  The envelope was stamped to match the card.

BB-Great-Friend This third card features Bermuda Bay In-Color.  The stamp set is Great Friend that originally debuted in the Occasions Mini Catalog and is available in the new catalog too.

The card base on this one is Whisper White and then we cut three panels to adhere to the front – Bermuda Bay, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive.

The butterfly is stamped on a Whisper White circle and mounted on a Chocolate Chip circle.  For my class the circles were cut with the Circle Scissor Plus cutting system.  But the original card used the Big Shot and the Circles #2 Originals Die.  Since I don’t have that die we cut our circles.

Three silver brads were added up in the top right corner.

This card was designed by Michele Schmidt for the Shoebox Swap.  Michele was also one of my roommates at convention.

DD-Asian-ArtistryThis next card features the Dusty Durango In-Color.  The stamp set is a Hostess Level 2 set called Asian Artistry.  This card uses a masking technique to create the circle which was inked using a Brayer and the Dusty Durango ink.

The bird image was then stamped with Black StazOn ink and the right edge of the circle was sponged with Soft Suede ink to create the shadow.

Some highlights were added with the White Gel Pen to the leaves.  We also used an Aquapainter to “paint” the bird – this causes some of the ink to lighten up.

The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched with the Word Window punch and layered on some Basic Black card stock that was punched with the Modern Label punch.

I do not know who designed this card – so if you know please leave me a comment and I’ll add it here.  This was also a card we made at the Shoebox swap on Tuesday night.  I told you I got some great cards that night….

SS-CC-Circle-CircusAnd the last card features the Soft Suede and Crushed Curry In-Colors.  This is the Circle Circus stamp set and I also used Teeny Tiny Wishes in my class.  The Designer Series Paper is from the Razzleberry Lemonade set.

The images were stamped on Very Vanilla card stock and punched out with various circle punches. There is a small Crushed Curry flower that was punched using the Trio Flower punch and has a Clear Rhinestone Brad in the center.

Soft Suede Polka Dot ribbon was wrapped around the Designer Paper before it was adhered to the front of the card.

The greeting was punched with the Modern Label punch.  We stamped a matching envelope.

This card was designed by Elizabeth Martinez and we made this at the STARZ meeting on Wednesday night of Convention.

Thanks to all these ladies for sharing their card designs at convention.

If you live near Woodstock, Georgia I hope you will join me for my next class.  Check my calendar to see what’s coming up.

Happy Stampin’!

STARZ meeting projects

At convention I attended a group meeting for the STARZ group – that includes everyone in Wendy Randall’s downline.  Wendy, Sue and I traveled from Georgia to attend convention.  Most of the others in Wendy’s downline were from California and a few from Texas and Arizona.   I enjoyed visiting with all of these girls because I don’t normally see them the rest of the year.  At our meeting Wendy did an awesome presentation on Taking Better pictures and Scrapbooking.  We saw a few demos and then there were 5 projects for us to make – each one was designed by a different person.    I presented my Tile Card – you can click HERE to see it.

Michelle's Circle Circus card

There were two other cards that used the Circle Circus stamp set – one designed by Michele Scileppi  – the colors were Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Old Olive.  And she used the Big Shot dies – Daisy #2 and the Top Note for the embellishments on the card.  Her example also had a tag hanging off the hemp cord but I left that off of mine.

Another Circle Circus card was designed by Elizabeth Martinez.  The colors she used were Soft Suede and Crushed Curry.  We used a variety of circle punches to punch out the different images in the stamp set.  The Crushed Curry print from the Razzleberry Lemonade paper was added across the font of the card.  Then the Soft Suede ribbon and a brad finished off the card.  We will be making this card in my class on Friday.

Wendy's Mini Scrapbook

Wendy's Mini Scrapbook

Wendy presented a mini scrapbook made with the new Thoroughly Modern file folders and stored inside one of the new gusseted envelopes.   The colors on the folders are Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede, Rose Red and Sahara Sand.  We decorated it using the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set and the new Butterfly punch.  Ribbon accents were added.  One of the inside pages was folded over to create a pocket.

STARZ meeting - Fancy Favor Box w/Love Notes

And one of the California girls (sorry I’m not sure who) showed us a  fancy favor box filled with love notes.  The colors were Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White.  The Razzleberry Lemonade paper was used to add the accents on the box and mini cards.  Some jumbo eyelets and ribbon were used to create the handle.  The box is cut using the new Fancy Favor Box die for the Big Shot.

After everyone shared their project we all worked on them the rest of the night. It was a fun meeting.

Look Who’s coming Sept. 1st

BAB-die-cutStampin’ Up! has teamed up with the Build-A-Bear Workshop to bring you an exciting and exclusive collection of products you and the children in your life will enjoy.  These appealing stamp sets and Sizzix dies will bring a beary fun look to your projects!

At convention we had the opportunity to play with the Sizzix dies and here is my little guy – say “Hi”!

I used the Stampin’ Up! Bigz Dies – Stampin’ Up! Bear and Stampin’ Up! Beary Essentials.  The clothes were cut from the new Designer Series Paper called Pawsitively Prints.

All convention attendees this year got the chance to purchase our very own Stampin’ Up! stuffed Build-a-Bear!  They were quite the hot item at convention!  Each stuffed bear came with it’s very own stamp.  And a few lucky demonstrators even won a Build-a-Bear prize from the Prize Patrol.  They received a pack of the Pawsitively Prints Designer Series paper and the Beary Best Friends and Beary Nice Wishes stamp sets.  I wish I had been one of the lucky ones……..instead I’ll just have to order mine.

my-bearCome join me for a class or workshop and meet my beary special bear that I brought back from convention.  She is all decked out in her Stampin’ Up! apron and ready to stamp with you!

I’m back from Convention

I am home from convention.  We learned SO MUCH and saw SO MANY new ideas it is going to take weeks to digest all that information.

I am so tired and I came home with a cold too.  So my head is groggy today and after the boys got on the bus I actually climbed back in bed and went back to sleep.  I really can’t remember the last time I did that.  Once I am up I always try to stay up.  I spent the past couple of hours working on some volunteer stuff for the high school marching band.  I still have to unpack.

The convention was the best – just like it is every year.  It was so much fun seeing the new ideas, talking to old friends and meeting new friends, stamping projects at our make-n-takes, swaps and group meeting and then in our room each night.  We had some awesome meals and tried a few new restaurants as well as eating at some old standbys.  We have committed to trying out some more new ones next year.  Over the next weeks I’ll be sharing swaps and projects from convention – I have so many it will take that long to share it all with you.

Today I’m going to share the project I created for our Roommate swap.  There were 4 of us in our room and we started this last year and decided to continue again this year – we each brought one project to share with everyone in the room so Friday night was our Roommate swap.

I had two projects – a Scratch pad holder with a matching pen and the chapstick butterfly.  The butterfly idea was shared by another demo, Julia Bettensratch-paper-holdercourt, from the UdderlyAwesome group.   The butterfly is the largest one on the Beautiful Butterflies Die for the Big Shot.  It shows on the die as only half the butterfly and you need to fold your paper and place it on the die to cut.  The chapstick is wrapped with a coordinating piece of Designer Series paper – I used sticky strip to adhere it.   Fold the butterfly in half and punch a hole with the 1/8″ handheld punch a little bit in from the fold.  Thread the ribbon through and tie around the chapstick in the front.  Isn’t it cute?

The scratch pad holder is the same project I did for teacher gifts at the end of May so I already posted that earlier.  The inside papers are stamped with the new hostess set called Of the Earth – it is a level 1 set.  The ink is Summer Sun.  The Designer Series Paper is the Pink Flamingo paper.  The daisy die was cut twice with Summer Sun card stock and there is a white jumbo grommet set in the center of the flower.  These little scratch pads are quick and easy to make.

I’ll share more about convention later.  I have lots of pictures to download so that I can show you some of the highlights.

Happy Stampin’!

Convention Swap – Christmas Punch card

I did make a Christmas Card as one of my convention swaps.  This card uses the new Christmas Punch Level 2 Hostess set.  Christmas-Punch-card

You might recall I made a little box of Tags a while back when I first got this set – click here for that post.  Well this card is modeled after that box.  I think I may go back and add the snowflakes to the tag box because I love how they turned out on the Kraft card stock.

The strip is Old Olive card stock and then the Chocolate Chip Patterns Designer paper.  The stamp is stamped in Old Olive ink and fits the Wide Oval punch.  I punched a 1-3/4″ Old Olive circle to put behind it.  I added the little brown flower button from the Button Latte set – it has linen thread tied through the center.  This is actually a very quick Christmas card to make.

It is in the high 90s most of the week in Salt Lake City.  That is where I am for the Stampin’ Up! Convention. I’ll be home Sunday night with tons of new ideas to share!

Think Cool Thoughts!

Convention Room Mate gifts

My Room mates at convention this year are the same as last year:

  • Sue is in my downline and lives in Georgia, we are traveling together to and from convention
  • Michele is from Iowa.  I met her at my first convention when we decided to room together never having met each other.
  • Diane is also from Iowa.  I met her last year when the four of us decided to room together.

We exchange room mate gifts each year and I always want to think of something unique.  It’s not always easy – and I was running out of time….So this year I kind of have a combo room mate gift – something new and something old that they have probably all seen before.  But in any case I’m sure they will be pleased.

Since this post is going up while I’m at convention I will have already given the girls their gifts and don’t need to hide them.  Both of these projects I have previously posted – one is a bag tag – I made myself and OWL tag – click here for the original post –  so that I could be identified as part of the Late Night Stampers group.  My tag also won the Late Night Stamper’s Owl contest – I’m not sure I ever posted about that – if you are part of the demo only group my tag is on the main yahoo page for the group.  If you see me around convention I hope you will say hi.  Michele is also a member of the LNS group so I decided to make her an Owl tag also.  Ours have the “LNS” on the front and our names on the back.  And then ultimately decided to also make a tag for Diane and Sue – their tags use the chipboard birds.    My original tag uses the retired Good Morning Sunshine Designer Series papers so I had to find a different paper to use for the new tags so it would all be current product – I decided on the Tall Tales Designer Series Paper and thought the tags turned out cute!  I hope you like them.

The base of the tag is cut from the Long Board chipboard pieces using the Big Shot and the Top Note Die.  I also cut the designer paper for the front and the back using the Top Note die.  The paper is attached with the Anywhere Glue Stick.  The names are die cut using the Billboard Alphabet strip.  I colored the chipboard pieces using Sponge Daubers and Craft ink.

The second little gift I am giving the girls is the little game night box that I gave to my leadership conference roommates.  I know they have all seen the project already because it was the one that won the stamping challenge in January.  So you can see it here at this post.

Sue's Bag Tag

Sue's Bag Tag

If I’m lucky this year’s convention bag will match my tags.  But probably not.  Every year we get a bag with all of our stuff inside.  So with thousands of demonstrators carrying the same bag – you have to put a tag on it so you can make sure you keep up with your own.  I’m excited for us to put these on our bags!

I glued all the pieces on with Crystal Effects so they should not come off.

I’ll let you know how they hold up.

Happy Stampin’!
