The Tutorial is ready

Sorry about that – I created the tutorial and then sent it to be converted and it took so long!  Not sure why, maybe because I have a lot of pictures.  Anyway I have the tutorial for making the Masked Frame card that I posted yesterday.

This idea was something that I saw on a crafting blog while searching the internet earlier this summer.  I wanted a unique and different idea for my card that I was creating for the UStamp swap at Convention.  This was something that I haven’t seen on any of the Stampin’ Up! blogs so I wanted to try my hand at it.  I did have several attempts and trying different combinations of stamp sets and colors before I finally landed on this one.  So here is the tutorial click here.

Have fun trying this out!

Masked Frame Convention Swap

Hi everyone!  Only a few more days before we move Tyler down to his dorm to start college.  We shopped yesterday and the girl at the check out gave us a funny look and said “is he going to college or why are you buying all this stuff?”  And yes we are getting ready for college – there were many other things that I thought he needed and his answer was “I’ll let you know later if/when I need that.”  Fortunately he isn’t going to be that far from home and I do a monthly card class down on the campus so I will be around.

Well that probably isn’t why you are here on my blog so let’s get on to a stamping project.  This card is one that I made for the UStamp Swap at convention.  Oh by the way the next UStamp class starts this Friday and I designed TWO projects for the class.  If you haven’t signed up for this online class you should – there are over 40 projects from demonstrators all over the world with complete tutorials.  CLICK HERE for more information.

Anyway back to my card for today.  A bunch of us got together from the last Ustamp Blog Hop and did a swap at convention.  Here is my card:

This card has a lot of steps and masking going on and I am writing a tutorial with the instructions for it.  I will add it to this post later today.

Colors are Basic Black, Old Olive, Whisper White and Crumb Cake.

Stamp Sets -Nature’s Nest and Inspired by Nature.

This was also my card swap for my PAWS team meeting in July.  I’ll be back later today.

UPDATE: I was having some trouble getting my tutorial converted to a PDF so that I can post it for you – I’ll get it fixed in the morning.  Thanks.

I’m back with the UDI Color Challenge

Hi everyone!  I’m back.  I took a few days off to spend some time with my sweetie!  Friday was our 22nd wedding anniversary – 22 years on July 22nd.  So we went away for a long weekend to a peaceful cabin in the mountains of Tennessee.  It was nice, quiet, and relaxing and now we are home and back to the real world.

So today is Tuesday and I did just get my card made for the Color Challenge this week – but it turned out really cute.  The inspiration picture for our colors was this one –

Tempting Turquoise, So Saffron, Old Olive and Whisper White and a beautiful floral sundress.  With these colors out on my desk I was trying to decide what to do.  I spent a few minutes looking through my convention photos and came across a project from the display area that Stampin’ Up! set up.  They were flowerpots that had the crochet flowers in them with buttons for the centers.  So I decided I wanted to recreate the flowers on a card.  And here is the result.

I used Inspired by Nature for the background – both the grass image and the flower image (but without the flowers – i only inked the stems and leaves).  Both are in Old Olive ink.  Then I sponged around the top with the Tempting Turquoise to create the sky and at the base with Old Olive to add to the grass.  The flowers are the Crochet Flowers in the catalog called Fleurette’s II.  I used the two smaller sizes – there is also one larger size.  I pulled a piece of White Baker’s Twine through the flower and then tied a button to the front and tied a bow.  The funny thing is that I tied such pretty little bows in each of my buttons and then didn’t realize until after I took the picture that I put all the flowers on either upside down or sideways – so just pretend my bows are blowing in the wind and it is a windy day!  Around the base I tied a piece of So Saffron Taffeta ribbon – so glad to see that we have So Saffron ribbon in the catalog – yeah!  I use this color a lot and really missed having matching ribbon lat year.  The little jewelry tag has “hello” from Tiny Tags on it.

And here is the photo from convention of the flowers that Stampin’ Up! created –

Wonderful Mother Scrapbook Layout

Today I wanted to share a scrapbook layout that I made last month.  It is the Mother’s Day layout that we made along with the Father’s Day layout I posted a few days ago.

This is a two-page 12×12 layout.  The background is Chocolate Chip and along the bottom I stamped with Early Espresso the grass from Inspired by Nature stamp set and the flowers from Just Believe stamp set.  Then I sponged along the bottom to blend everything together.

On the left page is my title that I stamped using the Wonderful Favorites stamp set that is on the Stampin’ Up! Last Chance list.

The flowers are all die cut using the Big Shot die-cut magazine using several different dies – Fun Flowers Bigz XL die, Flower Daisies #2 Bigz die, Flower Fusion Sizzlits dies, and Birds & Blooms Sizzlits dies.  The Birds & Blooms Sizzlits are on the Last Chance list too.

The colors I used are Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise, Poppy Parade, and Peach Parfait.   There is lots of doodling all over the flowers, the stems (oh – those are free hand cut from Pear Pizzazz card stock), also around the frames and the journaling blocks.  Some of the flowers are also stamped, sponged or embossed with the Polka Dot Embossing Folder.  A few flowers have brads in their centers.

The idea came from a page I saw in a scrapbook magazine.  I thought it turned out really fun and bright and cheery.  It could really be used for all sorts of things besides mother’s day.  Just change the title to suit your needs…..

Thanks for stopping by today!

Utah Diva’s Color Challenge #38

Happy Tuesday!

Here is this weeks color combo  – Certainly Celery, Soft Suede, Peach Parfait and Pretty in Pink.  Here is the inspiration picture:

Click on this link to go to the  Utah Diva’s Color Challenge blog.   There you can see the creations from the entire design team and add a link to your creation if you decide to play along.

I originally started to work on something baby themed like the inspiration photo but it just wasn’t working out.  Then I remember that I had cut and scored some boxes in Certainly Celery for a class (a long time ago) and didn’t use them because I cut them all the wrong size.  I saved them thinking I could use them for a future project.  I never did make another project so I decided since Certainly Celery was one of the colors in this weeks challenge I should pull out one of those cut boxes and work with it.  That was exactly what I did – but I realized this picture doesn’t even look like a box it just looks like a card front – but it really is a tall skinny box.

I do like these colors together – they are very soft – I guess that’s why they were in a baby’s room.  So the box is 6″ tall and 4″ wide and 1″ deep.  The opening is at the top and you could fit pictures inside or some of the Stampin’ Up! embellishments – the Baker’s Twine fits nicely inside.  The front panel is the Soft Suede and I stamped the stem from For All You Do and the grass from Inspired by Nature in Soft Suede ink across the bottom.  Then I stamped the flowers and butterfly on Very Vanilla card stock in the remaining colors and cut them all out.  The Certainly Celery flower used the Kissing Technique – I kissed the flower with the dots that were inked in Soft Suede.  I added some Subtle brads and a button to the center of the larger flowers.  And I pierced a butterfly trail.  I tied some Certainly Celery Taffeta ribbon around the bottom and added a “4 you” tag from Tiny Tags.

That’s this weeks project – I supposed I could have made some cards to fit inside that match the front – but I didn’t so just imagine it instead……  Take a minute to visit the UDI site and play along with us this week.

Word Play Owl Card

Today’s card uses the Owl Punch – I just love that Owl punch! – and the Word Play stamp set.  I created another card earlier using the same to items and basically the same colors – you can see it here.  I needed another card using the Owl punch from Stampin’ Up! but didn’t want to use the same one so I came up with another one.  Here it is:

We made this one in my card clubs the last couple of weeks.  The colors are the Stampin’ Up! In Colors – Pear Pizzazz and Peach Parfait.

I wanted a matching envelope but since the card was basically all punched I wasn’t sure what to do to decorate the envelope.  I finally decided to use the grass from Inspired by Nature and then added the little butterfly from Charming – it gave it an outdoor look to go along with my owl.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Card stock: Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip,Whisper White
  • Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait, Chocolate Chip
  • Stamp sets: Word Play, Inspired by Nature, Charming
  • In Color Patterns Pack Designer Series Paper
  • Owl Punch, 2-step Bird Punch, 1-3/4″ Circle Punch
