Box for my Mini Card Class

Last week I had my monthly Hands-On class and we made Mini Cards – little 3×3 cards with envelopes.  I wanted a box to hold them all in and found the perfect box in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog.  It is the new Kraft Gift Box.  This one decorated in a very vintage style because I wanted to stick with neutral colors since I had an assortment of various colors and styles of cards that we were making in the class.  The box is the perfect size to fit 3×3 mini cards and envelopes but it is also a food safe box so you can fill it with cookies, candies or a muffin or cupcake – yum yum!

This is the side view of the box.  I stamped directly on the box using Early Espresso ink.  I used two different stamp sets – Best Friends Forever and French Foliage.  I also sponged the edges of the box on all corners with Early Espresso ink.  Around the base of the box is a strip of Early Espresso Patterns Designer Series paper – you need two strips punched with the Lace Ribbon Border punch.  You need a strip that has 12 full flowers – three for each side of the box.  So match up the ends of the two strips and glue together – I use a 2-way glue pen.  Then punch out 1″ circles in Very Vanilla card stock and glue to the back of the strip behind each flower.  It will look like this:

Then glue the strip around the base of the box – I used the Multipurpose Liquid glue in the green bottle to do this.  Just put  a tiny bit on the back of each circle and then glue three on each side of the box meeting in the back.

Here is a view of the top of the box –

I created a 3d flower for the top of the box.  I used the First Edition Specialty Designer Series paper.  I cut  3 of each layer – 3″ Circle die, 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle punch, 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle punch, and 1″ Circle punch.  Crumple up all the circles and then flatten out a bit and stack them.  They are not perfectly lined up on top of each other you want them to be a little off center from one another.  Once they are all stacked poke a hole through with the paper piercer and then stick in an Antique Brad.  Also poke a hole in the center of the box lid – push the brad through to secure the flower to the top of the box.  Take a Stampin’ Sponge and Early Espresso ink and sponge the petals of the flowers.

To finish I stamped “hand crafted” from Tiny Tags on Crumb Cake card stock and punched with the Jewelry Tag punch, sponge the edges, poke a hole and tie to the brad with a piece of Early Espresso Baker’s Twine.  Tie a piece of Crumb Cake Seam Binding around the base of the flower.

Now close the lid and take the whole box and put it inside the color catcher.  Spritz it all over with the Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz.  On all sides and the top.  Let dry and you are done!  A beautiful gift box to give to someone special.

Over the next few days I’ll be sharing all the 3×3 mini cards that we made along with some instructions for each one.  So please come back to see them.

And here are a couple of other pictures I wanted to share with you from the class.  Aspen and Magnolia love my stamp classes because they get lots of attention from all of my stampers.  And they like to sit with us too.  So most everyone is willing to share a chair with the dogs – especially Aspen.  Here he is sharing a chair with Jeannette.

The chairs are just the perfect little head rest for the dogs.  Usually they sit on the other side of the table because then they can look out the window and see the chipmunks, squirrels, and birds out there.

A couple more things – it’s the LAST DAY for the Summer Mini Catalog on the Buy 3 Get 1 Free Designer Series paper sale.  Hurry and order today Wednesday, August 31st by midnight.  You can order online through my website store – click here.

It’s Scrapbook Day

Today is Scrapbook Day.  It is my monthly scrapbook class.  And I have two fun 12×12 2-page layouts planned.  I’m not going to show you those today instead I’m going to show you the layouts we made last month – since apparently I never shared them.  So here is the first one –

The back ground is Sahara Sand 12×12 card stock.  The stamp sets that I used are The Open Sea and Sail Away.  Both of these are in the Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini catalog which ends on August 31st.  So you only have a few more days left to order these.

On this left page I stamped the manifest image in Soft Suede down the left edge.  There are strips of Patterns Designer Series Paper in Pool Party, Soft Suede and Cajun Craze.  In the upper corner is the featured sailboat with the sunset.  See this post for details on how to do the masked sunset.  Th Big Shot dies are 3″ Circle, 3-1/2″ Circle, and the Scallop Circle.

There is the panel of Pool Party and a mat for a grouping of photos framed in Cajun Craze with a scallop border strip in Soft Suede on the side.  A couple of anchors are stamped around the page.

The right hand page added a few more elements.  First the pennant banner at the top.  This is the new Petite Pennants Builder punch.  The letters for “beach” were stamped using the Just Perfect Alphabet set.  I used the 1/16″ punch to put holes in the top of each pennant.  Then strung them on a piece of White Baker’s Twine.   My idea is that above the banner you would stamp the name of the Beach that the pictures are about.  So I plan to use our summer beach photos and will add “North Myrtle” to the top of the page.  If you aren’t at a specific beach it could just say “A Day at the”.

There is also a tag hanging down with the date – I just tied a knot to the twine at the end of the banner to attach the Modern Label punch.  It kind of blends in with all the Pool Party so I probably should have use a different color card stock for it.

Down in the corner is an idea I got from a swap at convention.  Using the Modern Label punch to create the mooring posts.  I used a Stampin’ Write marker to add some lines to make them look like wood.  A piece of Bakers Twine is wrapped around one and tied in a knot.

Now I need to print my beach photos so I can add them to this page.

I also wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the emails and comments about the Shadow Box Advent Calendar project I shared this week.  I have been getting tons of emails and I have tried to reply to each one.  I created the project for the UStamp class so I can not share the tutorial with you.  But you can join this awesome class and get it there.  The cost works out to less than 75 cents per tutorial and there are some awesome projects so it is well worth the money. The box kit was something I purchased online at a big box craft store – but I can’t post that specific information here per my demonstrator agreement with Stampin’ Up!

Have a great day!  I can’t wait for my scrapbookers to here so I can show them this months layouts.  I will share those with you guys later.

KSU Stampers

I really enjoying stamping each month the the girls at KSU.  Once a month I go down to campus and hold a card making class.  Next week will be my August class and we will be making some fall themed cards and a stamped candle. Hi girls – see you soon!

Here is one of the cards we made a couple of months ago –

This one was a sympathy card, but for those that didn’t need sympathy it was easy enough to change the sentiment to something else.   The stamp set is Elements of Style and the sentiment is from Thoughts and Prayers.  Stamp the large floral image with Black StazOn ink and then lightly watercolor the flowers with Marina Mist ink.  It has been so long I don’t remember where this idea came from.

Here are some picture of the girls – this was our June meeting –

Thanks for stopping by today!

Color Challenge UDI49

Hi all!  This weeks color challenge was one that I wasn’t quite sure about.  Gretchen went back up to lots of colors again after several weeks of just a few.  I can’t decide which is more challenging a few colors or a lot of colors.  So here is the inspiration –

Six colors in this one – Baja Breeze, Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron, Basic Black and Whisper White.  I wasn’t quite sure where to go with these aside from flower like the inspiration but I wanted to do something other than flowers.  I think my last few challenge project have all had flowers.  And then I finally figured it out and I love this card that I came up with – and no flowers!  Looky here it is……

I made a masked sunset card using the Sail Away stamp from the Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini Catalog.  Now this was the card I needed to make for my brother for his birthday – I just didn’t think of it until this week and his birthday was last week so I sent him something else.  He may just get two cards from me this year.

I took step by step pictures for you too.  So here is what I did.

step 1

Step 1: First stamp the boat on the Whisper White card stock – mine was 3″ x 3-1/2″ – and I used Jet Black StazOn ink.  Then stamp it again on a post it note and cut out right on the lines for the two sails and the hull of the boat.   Here is a helpful trick – use the two-way glue pen and put some glue on the back of the cut out pieces and let dry.  Now these become sticky but it is repositionable.

Add the mask on top of the stamped image on the white card stock matching up so that the sails are covered.  And then you will also need to cover the hull of the boat in just minute (I don’t have it covered in this picture).

step 2

Step 2: Punch a 1″ circle out of a scrap piece of card stock.  You will use the scrap piece as a mask to create the sun.  In this case your are covering the area around the circle that will become the sun.  I overlapped just a bit with the sail on the boat so it looks like it is behind the sail.

Step 3

Step 3: Use a Stampin’ Sponge and sponge the inside of the circle with So Saffron ink.  Then take another sponge and sponge the edges of the circle with the Pumpkin Pie ink.  This will make the center lighter and the outer edges darker.

Step 4

Step 4: Remove the circle mask for the sun, but leave the sails covered and make sure the boat hull is covered.  Now punch a scrap strip of card stock with the scallop edge punch and use this as a mask to create waves at the water line.  I sponged with Marina Mist ink, starting darker near the scallops and going lighter as you go down the card stock.  Move the scallop mask down into different spots so that you can make various waves as you sponge.

Step 5

Step 5: Now you have the sun sponged in and the water and waves sponged in.

Step 6

Step 6: Last I sponged Baja Breeze in the sky.  You can either cover the sun with the circle you punched out earlier or carefully sponge around it.  You can leave white space in the sky too, it doesn’t all need to be covered.

Once you are done with the sponging then remove the masks from the sails and the boat.

I stamped the greeting along the bottom.  And mounted the piece on Basic Black card stock.  I added a strip of Marina Mist card stock that was scalloped.  This is put on the front of the Pumpkin Pie card stock with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final addition to the card is the Basic Black wide grosgrain striped ribbon on the side – the ends are overlapped and then tied together with a piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine.

I hope you like it as much as I do!

Masked Frame Convention Swap

Hi everyone!  Only a few more days before we move Tyler down to his dorm to start college.  We shopped yesterday and the girl at the check out gave us a funny look and said “is he going to college or why are you buying all this stuff?”  And yes we are getting ready for college – there were many other things that I thought he needed and his answer was “I’ll let you know later if/when I need that.”  Fortunately he isn’t going to be that far from home and I do a monthly card class down on the campus so I will be around.

Well that probably isn’t why you are here on my blog so let’s get on to a stamping project.  This card is one that I made for the UStamp Swap at convention.  Oh by the way the next UStamp class starts this Friday and I designed TWO projects for the class.  If you haven’t signed up for this online class you should – there are over 40 projects from demonstrators all over the world with complete tutorials.  CLICK HERE for more information.

Anyway back to my card for today.  A bunch of us got together from the last Ustamp Blog Hop and did a swap at convention.  Here is my card:

This card has a lot of steps and masking going on and I am writing a tutorial with the instructions for it.  I will add it to this post later today.

Colors are Basic Black, Old Olive, Whisper White and Crumb Cake.

Stamp Sets -Nature’s Nest and Inspired by Nature.

This was also my card swap for my PAWS team meeting in July.  I’ll be back later today.

UPDATE: I was having some trouble getting my tutorial converted to a PDF so that I can post it for you – I’ll get it fixed in the morning.  Thanks.

Creative Elements Shoebox Swap Card

On our first night in Salt Lake City my roommates and I attended a Shoebox Swap – I already wrote one post about it – Click Here – and shared the card.  But I wanted to give you the instructions on how I made this card.  I call it a peek-a-boo card – because the inside of the card peeks through to the front.  Here is the finished card again –

And now some instructions on how to actually make it –

1. Cut the base of the card which is So Saffron to 4-1/4″ by 10″ and score at 5-1/2″ so you have a card that opens on the right side with a short front.

2.  Use the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch and push it all the way in from the end of the short card front to punch the circle.  Here is a picture.

So you end of with this.  Basically I cut down the front so that I could get the punched hole close to the center then I build the front of the card back up.

3.  I stamped the front  with the Creative Elements stamp set and spritzed the front of the card using a Color Spritzer and my Stampin’ Write Markers – So Saffron and Soft Suede.

4.  To build up the front of the card I used a strip of Cherry Cobbler that was stamped with the border image, and a strip of Soft Suede that was punched with the Scallop Trim Border Punch.  Glue the two strips together and then glue them to the front of the card lining up with the back to make the front of the card be even.

  5.  To finish the front I cut a Scallop Circle using the Big Shot Die Cut machine and the Scallop Circle #2 die – the larger circle is the one I used.  This was cut from Soft Suede card stock.  Then insert the scallop circle into the 2-1/2″ Circle punch – push it all the way in and then center it to punch the circle.  I centered it by having about 3 scallops show out on either side of my punch.

6.  Then glue the scallop circle to the front of the card matching it up with the circle that you punched out of the front.  This creates the frame.

7.  To create the flower I used the Rock ‘n Roll technique – ink the flower first in So Saffron ink and then roll the edges in Soft Suede ink.  Stamp on Whisper White and cut out.

8.  To finish the inside of the card I cut a Whisper White circle using the Big Shot Die Cut machine and the 3″ Circle punch.  Stamp this piece with the vine image in So Saffron, the create image in Soft Suede, add spritzing with the Stampin’ Write markers, and sponging around the edges.  Glue the cut flower to the circle.

9.  Finally cut some butterflies with the Big Shot Die Cut machine and the Beautiful Wings Embosslit – the tiny one is glued to the inside circle and the large one has Linen Thread wrapped around the center and then attached to the front of the card on the frame using a Stampin’ Dimensional.

Hopefully all that makes sense and the pictures help you understand.

And how about some pictures of us at the actual shoebox swap –

Tuesday night Shoebox Swap

Dawn and Cindy at the Shoebox Swap

Monika and Michele at the Shoebox Swap

Sherri the swap organizer at the end of the night resting her feet

We had a lot of fun!  And got a lot of great cards in the process.  The room is divided into two sections so we stamp all the cards on one half of the room and we get finished cards for the other half of the room.  Sherri has snacks for us and gives away prizes!  I won a package of the Big Top Designer Series paper.

Thanks for visiting!
