Jun 23, 2010 | Cards, Celebrate Everything, Game Night, Masculine, Retired List |
This is another card from my Last Chance class this month. I really like this Game Night stamp set and hate that it is on the Last Chance list – it is so very different from everything else and works great for both masculine cards and party invitations – things like Bunko, Pokeeno, Game Night. It is also a good set for scrapbooking. I have used this stamp set for many things.
The card base is Ruby Red (one of the retiring colors) – I used two strips of the Jackpot Designer Series Paper (the paper is retiring) on the left side and then added a piece of the Black Gingham ribbon (this ribbon is retiring).
On a piece of Whisper White card stock I stamped the game pieces one in Ruby Red and one in So Saffron. The domino was stamped in VersaMark ink and covered with Black Embossing Powder and heat set. All the pieces were cut out.
First stamp the chess piece in VersaMark on the card base – carefully cover with Black Embossing Powder and heat set. Then I stamped the CELEBRATE in VersaMark along the ribbon. Add the cut out pieces and then stamp “your day” underneath using VersaMark ink. These stamps are from the Celebrate Everything stamp set which is also on the Last Chance list. I did emboss on the envelope too so that I could have it match my card.
Our monthly pokeeno game night will be coming around again soon – maybe I need to come up with some little treats to bring everyone.
Thanks for the visit – have a great day!

Last night I made these candles that we will be using for our table center pieces this weekend at the couple’s pokeno party. I posted the invitations earlier.
These were quick and easy – using the In the Cards Stampin’ Around Wheel and a Real Red ink cartridge. I wrapped the candle with the So Saffron ribbon (from Sale-A-Bration) and then added a black brad (from the Vintage brads assortment). I went back later and punched with the Round Tab punch from Real Red card stock – folded them in half and stamped “Big Winner” and “Game Night” from the Game Night stamp set in Basic Black. I added that to each candle. I had the same type of element on the invitations so I thought it might tie them together.
If you want to learn more about stamping on candles – find some friends and sign up for my new Me & My Friends Classes. My June newsletter went out to all my customers with information about this new type of class.
I have to get my shopping list together for the party on Saturday. And I’m making a little surprise for all the ladies in our group.
Someone asked how Aspen was doing – he is doing great and seems back to normal. But I checked the calendar and it has only been 3 weeks (I was sure it had been longer than that) so he still needs to take it easy. He is ready to play and has been bringing us toys to tug and toss. I have been letting him outside in the yard by himself off of the leash. I keep Magnolia in so she can’t chase him and make sure all the chipmunks and squirrels have left the yard so there isn’t anything for him to chase. So far he just walks around, does his business and comes back in. He pretty much sticks close to me as it is – he is a “mama’s boy”. That’s how it is right now.
Have a great Summery Day!
May 24, 2009 | Card Games, Designer Series Paper, Game Night, Stamps, SU Ribbon |
Today I have been working on invitations for a game night that some friends and I have coming up in about 2 weeks. We are 12 ladies that get together once a month to play a game called Pokeno. We have alot of fun – some of us have been part of this group for more than 12 years – when we started we played Bunko but switched many years ago to Pokeno because it didn’t matter how many people played. About once a year we like to include our husbands so we have a Couples Night. Well the time is here for our Couples Pokeno party and I wanted to make invitations using the Card Games and Game Night stamp sets. Pokeno is played with a deck of cards and a card like a bingo card. I think this would make a great invitation for a birthday party – teens, boys, adults, or just a get together with friends.
The invitation is a pocket card – I love using this style of card for an invitation. The photos aren’t the best. I like to take them when the sun is shining – well it happens to be pouring down rain!
So this is how I made it:
- Cut So Saffron card stock 11″ x 4-1/4″. Then score at 5-1/2″ and at 1-1/4″. Fold in half and then fold the small flap toward the front of the card. I used a corner rounder on the top corners of the back of the card.
- Cut Real Red card stock to 4″ x 4″. Cut a piece of Jackpot Designer Series paper to 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ (I used the black piece with the poker chips) and adhere to the center of the Real Red. Adhere these to the front of the card underneath the flap. Cut a piece of Jackpot Designer Series paper to 1″ x 4″ (I used the red diamond design) and adhere this to the front of the flap. Use a stapler to staple the flap on each side to the back of the card. The staples will get covered.
- On the back of the card I also added a piece of Jackpot Designer Series paper which was cut 4″ x 5-1/4″ and the top two corners were corner rounded. Adhere this to the back. This wasn’t necessary but I thought it made it look like an actual card.
- Now tie a piece of ribbon around the flap and cover all the staples and tie in a knot on the front of the card. Trim the ends of the ribbon. I used the So Saffron ribbon that we had during the Sale-A-Bration promotion. There is also a 1/2″ striped So Saffron ribbon that you could use or the Real Red 1/2″ striped or 5/8″ grosgrain.
- To create the decoration on the front I stamped the card images on Very Vanilla card stock with VersaMark ink and covered with Black Embossing Powder and then heat set it with the heat tool. Then I colored in some sections with the So Saffron and Real Red Stampin’ Write markers. I trimmed around each card with my paper snips. Punch out a Round Tab punch from Basic Black card stock. Fold in half and tuck the corners of the card inside. I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch a small hole, then insert a Red Eyelet and set with the Crop-A-Dile. I added it to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- To create the insert for the pocket I set up a Word document to print my information on 1/4 sheet of card stock – and then printed it on a sheet 4 times – I turned my card stock each time so it would print in a different corner. I’m sure there are other ways to do this more efficiently but this is how I did it. Then I cut the full sheet into quarters – 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″. Then I took each printed quarter and trimmed 1/2″ off the top – so it was 5″ tall. And 3/8″ off of each side – so it is 3-1/2″ wide and my text stayed centered in the middle. I corner rounded the top corners.
- To finish the insert I stamped the bottom edge with the 4 card symbols all the way across. Then stamp two images on each side at the top. I cut a 2 inch piece of ribbon folded it in half and used a bit of snail to hold it in place on the back while I added a Red eyelet. Then put the insert into the card.
- Stamp a matching envelope. I could have used the wheel on the envelope – but honestly I forgot I had it and already had the stamping done by that time.
I hope you like the invitation and I hope the ladies in my Pokeno group like them too. I’ll get them all delivered tomorrow.
Have a great rest of the Holiday Weekend!
Mar 13, 2009 | Card Games, class, Game Night, Stamps |
This is my prize bucket I made. I had this oval shaped tin for another project that I never completed. I used the So Saffron ribbon from the Sale-A-Bration Ribbon Bundle and wrapped it around the tin. I stamped BIG WINNER, GAME NIGHT and the card symbols and punch them all out with the word window – this is the same little detail that was hanging on the card box. I added just a touch of adhesive to the end so these would stay spread out. I tied them to the ribbon with a piece of the silver cord.
And here is the last project – it was another card using the Card Games stamp set that matches the Game Night set. I saw the idea to use the round tab punch as a card holder on someone else’s blog but now I can’t find it anymore. I found that I liked this set stamped in VersaMark ink and embossed with black embossing powder. This card could be used for a variety of things – use the King on the front – it says “King for a Day” and it could be a Father’s Day card or just a manly birthday card. The Queen says “Queen of Everything” and the Jack says ” You Make me Laugh”. You could also leave off those words by not inking that portion of the stamp. We used the new Jumbo Brads that come in the neutral colors – Very Vanilla, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip and Silver. These come in two sizes and this is the smaller size.
At the class we spent time practicing the knot tying on the ribbon. We decided the trick is getting your fingers to hold the ribbon in the right place. It is hard to tell someone how to do it – so I tried showing it and explaining it at the same time. I would try to take pictures to show you but I need both hands to hold the ribbon and I’d have to get someone else to take the pictures – no one is here to do that right now – maybe on another day I can get that done.
Ryan didn’t get to present his creation at school yesterday – he should be doing that today. So I’ll write about that later.
Have a fun weekend!

Mar 12, 2009 | class, Game Night, Stamps |
Game Night was alot of fun even though there were only a few people. I think I might have another game night in a few months. In between projects we played Pokeeno and the winner got a prize from my prize bucket. I actually made a prize bucket that matched all the prizes I showed yesterday. I found a metal tin that I had bought for something else and never used. I’ll share a picture of that and the fourth project that we made tomorrow. Today I wanted to show a closer picture of the Game Night projects that were part of my class submission to the Stampin’ Up! contest that won in January. I don’t think I shared the close up pictures of each project earlier. We made all three of these projects last night. If you are a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator the instructions for all three are on the demonstrator website for you to download – look in the Demonstrator Ideas section.
First is the invitation. I call it a flip-flap card — I don’t really know what else to call it. I saw this flap idea at leadership on a card that my upline, Wendy shared with me. The Saffron flap is attached to the back and flips out to the side and reveals the part that says “you are invited to game night”. The card then flips open from the top to reveal the party information on the inside. This could just be a regular card for a birthday or something else. I have had some people ask where the poker chips come from – those were just punched from the Jackpot Designer Series Paper – and so where the little card symbols – diamond, heart, spade and club – although you could use the stamp that has those on there too. All the other pieces are stamped and cut out – they are all in the Game Night stamp set.
Then there was the easiest project – the coasters. Just cut 4×4 squares of the Jackpot Designer Series Paper. I use the Anywhere Glue Stick and cover the coaster – position the paper and trim the corners. We covered both sides of the coasters and then used the Crop-A-Dile to punch a hole in the corner and tied some Red Hemp Twine through to hold them all together.
And my favorite was the little card box which is actually where the whole idea started. My sister-in-law showed me a box at Christmas time that held cards and envelopes. And somehow – I can’t even remember how – I ended up creating this little card box – it holds a full size deck of cards, a small notepad and a small pencil.
I was so happy with how the box turned out that I had to add some more projects to it and create a class. You could use the box for other things but I sized it perfectly for the purpose of holding the cards since I was using the Jackpot Designer Series Paper.
The Word Window punch works great with this set – I used it to punch out BIG WINNER and GAME TIME and the little stamp with the card symbols.
So it was fun evening. And afterwards I had to help Ryan try to get his project finished. Ryan was up well past midnight and then early this morning trying to get it done. I will show you his newest creation in another post – probably tomorrow – so I can hear how his presentation went at school today.
Have a great rest of the day!
Happy Stamping,
Monika

Mar 11, 2009 | Big Shot, class, family, Game Night, Stamps |
Today I wanted to share the prizes I made last night for my Game Night class (the class is tonight). I used the Jackpot Designer Series Paper, the Game Night Stamp set and the coordinating wheel In the Cards. The colors are So Saffron, Real Red, Basic Black and Very Vanilla. I used various ideas with the small and medium cello bags. Some are topped with the Top Note die cut with the Big Shot. Fold it one way and it fits on a medium cello bag and fold it the other and it fits on the small cello bag. Some have the DSP inside and the punched with the double rectangle punch and So Saffron ribbon pulled through. I used a variety of items for my prizes – Stampin’ Up! chapstick, Stampin’ Up! pens, assorted Stampin’ Up! buttons, and assortment of the Textured Love Notes from last year. I hope everyone likes them.
One other thing I wanted to share today was the birthday gift that Ryan made for me. Ryan is my youngest and he is 12. He designed and created this idea all on his own over the weekend. He asked me for some wire which I had in my craft room. And this is what he turned it into:
What do you think?
I think he has some creative genes in his body too. It is me and him holding hands. He did all of the work himself with a sautering tool (I’m sure I didn’t spell that right).
I LOVE IT! Thank you Ryan!
My older boys are taking me to dinner at one of the local Mexican Resteraunts that we like to eat at. And Kyle is going to drive – which happens to be a big deal in our family. At 17 he still only drives where he absolutely has to and right now that is basically to and from school. For whatever reason he is not very interested in driving. He does have a car now (well it is actually a family car) that he can drive and that has made a difference. Anyway, I was thrilled and can’t wait for us to go – now to pick an evening to do it. Maybe this weekend…..
Have a wonderful day!
