Decor Elements Framed Art

Earlier this month we had a STARZ group meeting that was a lot of fun.  Wendy had some great projects for us and the one I’m going to share today is very similar to a framed art project I did awhile back with my Stamper’s Club. I got the idea from a project that they showed us at the Regional Conference in Orlando.  My original frame project was this one with the “Welcome” Decor Elements – my club member also used the Inspiration Decor Elements pieces for theirs.  We used the Urban Garden Designer Series paper and the main colors were Baja Breeze and Kiwi Kiss.  The stamp set is Inspired by Nature.  The Decor Elements is on the glass.  The ribbon is tied around the outside of the glass.  On my frame the butterflies are inside the glass.

welcome-frameI shared the idea at a STARZ meeting and Wendy created her own frame project and another friend, Michelle, also made her own versions.  Wendy had her version as one of our projects at our last STARZ meeting using a smaller frame.  For this one we used the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper and stamped with the Upsy Daisy stamp set using the baby-wipe technique.  The main colors are Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo.  The butterflies are the Beautiful Butterflies die for the Big Shot and on Wendy’s version we used the Inspiration Decor Elements pieces – mine says “love”.  The other words in the set are “life”, “hope”, and “faith”.  On Wendy’s version the butterfly is attached outside the glass so it looks more 3 dimensional.Upsy-Daisy-frame

I plan to make some more frames in various colors to sell at the Holiday Bazaar in my neighborhood.

If you live near me please plan to come out to this event – everyone is invited.  I will have a table of completed handcrafted items for sale, samples of other Decor Elements projects, a make-n-take project, sign ups for classes and catalogs for ordering.  There will be a variety of other people there to help you get ready for the holidays. Here are the details:

Purse – gift card/business card holder

gift-card-purseI received this cute idea from Sharon Field at convention this year.  It is a little purse and when you open it up it can hold a business card or gift card.

Sharon’s held her business card and used a different stamp set than my example – I would show you hers too but it seems to be missing…..

We made these at my last downline meeting.  I thought it was a nice little business idea or it could be used to hold a gift card – a great idea for teen girls or really any age girl.  I don’t think a boy would like a purse very much but this could be adapted to a rectangular shape and be turned into a brief case just use some more manly colors and a different stamp set – or just DSP.

The colors are Melon Mambo and Bermuda Bay.  The Designer Series Paper is Razzleberry Lemonade.  We used the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set.  The dots behind the butterfly and the flower stems are hand-drawn with the Bermuda Bay markers.  I think everyone loves the In-Color Stampin’ Write Markers.

The closure is a filigree brad and underneath a velcro dot actually hold the purse shut.  To create the pocket you punch with the Word Window – about 1-1/2 times to make it wide enough for the card.  Don’t put any adhesive in the middle only around the edges or the card won’t slide in.

I actually drew this out on grid paper and then used the grid to go up and over to create my angles.  I marked the spots on my card stock and then placed it on my cutter to cut the angles to make it look like a purse.    I didn’t have any exact measurements from Sharon so I just traced out her sample and then created my own little template.

I’ve been busy with a variety of stuff.  I’m posting the new September WOW Scrapbook kit later today on that blog – wowscrapbookkits.wordpress.com – I’ll put the sneak peek on this blog probably tomorrow.

Last night I had a meeting with band parents planning an 8th grade night event – where the 8th graders get to come with the Marching Band to a football game and play with them in the stands during the game.  This year we are planning have a tailgate event before the game and feed everyone.  We had our first meeting last night and delegated out some tasks.

Tonight I’m hosting my pokeeno group from my neighborhood so I need to get ready for that today and clean the house and cook a few things.  Ack – I just realized I’m supposed to make baked beans and I forgot to buy anything for that when I shopped yesterday.  My theme is a summer BBQ and I plan to use some more of my Summer Cookout kit for serving/decorating.  I better check my pantry and head to the grocery store one more time.

Have a wonderful day!!

Beary Fun!

I’ve been having so much fun today making bears!!  The other night when I was working I came up with an idea that I thought was very clever.  Do you ever have one of those days where you just keep smiling cause you came up with something and it just makes you happy?  Today I’ve been playing again and I just have to smile ’cause I’m tickled pink with this idea.   So are you just dying to know what it is……..well the Top Note Die is the perfect size to making sleeping bags for the Build-A-Bears!  Look at this……

Look at all my bears in their little sleeping bags!!  Here is a close up of a boy and a girl bear.

I cut two Top Note dies from the Pawsitively Prints Designer Series Paper and scored one of them and folded it down.  What I did to score was line up the center points on the 1″ line and score carefully.  Then fold that over.  I used snail on the sides and bottom to put the sleeping bags together.  I added buttons (from the sizzlet die) or ribbon to each one.  I stamped one of the greetings on the bottom – I decided to use “I ‘heart’ YOU BEARY MUCH!”  and I cut a heart using the Beary Girl Sizzlets die and popped it up with a tiny piece of a Stampin’ Dimensional. I did trim the points off of the sides of the sleeping bag.  Maybe I should have done it on the bottom too – that is the only thing my boys thought was weird because their sleeping bags never had points on them…..oh well.

The bears are cut from the Bear die using Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, and Creamy Carmel card stock.  I punched a 1-1/4″ circle out of Basic Black card stock and glued it with a 2-way glue pen to the back of each bear head for the facial features (this is much easier that dealing with the tiny little piece from the die).  I glued on the muzzle from a different color of card stock.

The clothes are cut from the Beary Essentials die using the Pawsitively Prints Designer Series Paper and I just mixed up the different pants and shirts.  On some of the girls I cut the bottoms of the pants off at the perforated line to make them look more liked cropped pjs.  The girls also got bows in their hair – it is on the Beary Girl Sizzlits die.  I glued on all the clothes – a few of them I added the cuffs for the shirt.  I also added the hearts on the outside of their shirts.  Then the bears were tucked into their sleeping bags.

The card is run through the Big Shot with the new Perfect Details texture plate (just the front) to give it a little texture – it looked too plain without it to me.  The card base is Old Olive since that is one of the accent colors in the designer series paper.

So I’m thinking about sending this idea in to Stampin’ Up! for one of the monthly contests.  What do you think?

I was going to plan a scrapbook page with the bears in their sleeping bags – Ryan whenever he went to visit my parents when he was little always took all of his Build-a-Bears and had a “sleep-over”.  I know I have pictures somewhere…..I just haven’t figured out where that is yet.  So my dilemma (is that spelled right?)  was what to send in for the contest – a scrapbook page or a card?

These are my swaps for the STARZ group meeting tonight.

Have a BEARY FUN WEEKEND!!

Surprise!

Surprise Tyler!

That was what we yelled Sunday night when we had a surprise party for Tyler.  Tyler turned 16 on Saturday and had a most uneventful day.  What he didn’t know was that I was planning a surprise party for Sunday!  If you only want to see the stamping related stuff go to page 2 of this post.

I have been asking Tyler for about a month if he wanted a party for his 16th birthday – yes, then no, then yes, then finally he said no.  So Friday night we went out as a family to dinner, came home, opened presents and ate cake.  Below you can see the card and the little gift I made him.  Saturday, Greg was gone all day at a tennis/golf tournament, and I was in and out – shopping for the party, taking stuff to my friend, Gina’s house – and by the way – the Best Friend ever – how many people would let a bunch of teenagers that they don’t even know come and have a party at their house.   Since it was a surprise I couldn’t have it at my house.  So Saturday was a boring day for Tyler – except that he did get his birthday balloon and I made him breakfast in bed!

Sunday I quietly went to Gina’s house to help with final preparation and plan B since it turned out to be a rainy Sunday so all the outside entertainment was a bust.  My one concern – was anybody coming to the party…..  Just an FYI – not a good idea to put a 17 year old boy in charge of inviting other teenagers to a surprise party – first I didn’t know who ended up getting invited and second teenagers don’t RSVP – maybe they don’t know what that means…..But it all worked out and teenagers did appear at Gina’s door, some on time and some later.  We were able to get Tyler up to Gina’s house without any clue and I think Tyler had a fun party and celebration for his 16th birthday.  Later that night he told me that he really did want a surprise party – hmmm did I know that somehow ’cause I don’t remember him telling me that…

Here are a few party pictures and on the next page are some stamping projects. (Click on page 2)

Stamper’s Club – Join Now!

I’ll be starting a new round of Stamper’s Club in September and I have openings for a few new members.  Each month we get together at my house to stamp some great projects.  At every meeting one person in the club is the hostess.  The hostess brings some snacks to share with everyone and gets all the hostess benefits from the orders that night.  Everyone places a minimum order each month and when its your turn to be the hostess you get a hostess set (minimum of one Level 1 set) and the free spending money (minimum of $15).  For the months of September, October and November Stampin’ Up! will have a hostess special for workshops that are $250 or more in sales.  I have plans this time to start everyone on gifts for the holidays so each meeting will include a gift item (some may have extra supply fees) and then you will also get to make two cards.  Our meeting nights are on Friday nights (either the first or second Friday of the month) – so plan to join me for a Girls Night Out once a month in Woodstock, Georgia.

BagsAll Club members also get a catalog (returning members already have theirs) and a special gift from me!  This time I brought everyone back something from convention – they are the cutest reusable shopping bags and they feature the artwork from the Circle Circus Stamp set.  These were quite the popular item from memento mall.

You can also get one of these bags from me by hosting a workshop at your house and inviting your friends to see what Stampin’ Up! is all about.  I’d love to share some new ideas with you and help you prepare for the holiday!

We had our final Stamper’s Club meeting for this round after I got back from convention and here is a look at one of the projects that we made.

dsp-purseThis cute purse made from a sheet of Designer Series Paper.  This project was shared at convention at our Starz meeting by Julia.

I’m planning to make more of these to sell at a Holiday Bazaar that I will be participating in at the beginning of Oct.  I think these are perfect teenage girl gift package idea.  I’m also going to make up some that are Holiday themed – you could fill it with something to give a neighbor or hostess when you attend a party.  Even the simplest gift is special when you present it in a unique way.

There really isn’t any stamping involved with this one unless you add the initials like I did on this example or add a tag to the handle with a little message like “thank you” or “just for you”.

I made this one and sent it to my niece, Emily.  I think she will enjoy making these for all her friends.

We’ll be making more fun projects at our club meetings so if you are interested in joining please contact me today.

Have a great Stampin’ Up! Day!

Emily’s Scrapbook Page

emilys pageHere is a scrapbook page that my niece, Emily, created.  How creative is she?  I think I need to recruit her as a demonstrator as soon as she is old enough….

This is an 8×8 page that she just put an assortment of Designer Series Paper strips, ribbon, buttons and staples on.

She added the doodles with a fine tip marker around the edges – all hand-drawn.

Let’s see if I can point out all the Stampin’ Up! supplies that she used:

  • Going Gray card stock for the base
  • Designer Series Paper from Summer Days Simply Scrappin’ Kit
  • Designer Series Paper from Walk in the Park pack
  • Rose Red 1/4″ Grosgrain ribbon
  • Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot ribbon
  • Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon
  • Baja Breeze Striped Ribon

She added various buttons that are not Stampin’ Up! And used staples too.

Great job Emily!

Have a great day today!
