Sep 23, 2009 | Animal Stories, Circle Scissor Plus, class, Designer Series Paper |
Today I’m sharing the 4th project from my Treats class that I had last week. This is one of my favorite projects and I have shared one with you already a couple of months ago – I’ll look back but I think it was probably back in June. This is a cupcake box.
This one was supposed to represent a “Birthday” treat at my class. I used the Tall Tales Designer Series Paper and the Animal Stories stamp set. The “happy birthday” comes from the Family Phrases stamp set. I like using that set because I like the font they used for all the little phrases.
When you pull the lid off of the box inside is a holder for a single cupcake. Someone at my class had a great idea – she has guests coming in from out of town and they are staying at a local hotel. She plans to make them each a box and leave it in the hotel for them as a Welcome treat when they arrive. Isn’t that a great idea!
The original box idea is from a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in Canada – her name is Heather Summers and I love all of her work. She made the cupcake box for a baby shower originally and had the ribbon go all the way around the whole box and the lid. I decided that I didn’t want to have to retie the ribbon when i took the lid off so I put slit in each side and slid the ribbon through so it actually only goes around the top of the lid. It reminds me of those gifts on TV show where all they do is lift off the lid and the packaging stays perfect.
The one I made early in the summer was using the new In_Colors and the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper. Here is a picture with the lid off so you can see the inside.
The base of the box is a 12″ x 12″ piece of card stock – scored at 4″ all the way around. The insert on the inside that holds the cupcake in place so it can’t slide around is 6-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ and then scores at 1-1/4″ all the way around. Then in the center cut out a 2-1/2″ circle. I used the Circle Scissor to do that.
This box holds a full size cupcake. You could redesign it to use the mini cupcakes too. The lid is 6-5/8″ x 6-5/8″ scored at 1-1/4″ all the way around.
I used sticky strip to hold together the base of the box and the lid. I did not put any adhesive on the insert as it fits so snuggly inside that you don’t need it. And I actually considered not putting any adhesive on the box either. Once you put the lid on it would stay shut. And then when you lift off the lid the box would fall open to reveal the cupcake. I actually think I like that idea better. It would be kind of magical to pull up the lid and have the sides fall down for the reveal. And using less adhesive is always a bonus!
If you don’t want to put a cupcake in there then leave out the insert and just use it as a gift box. Or another idea is to put an ornament on the inside – the insert would also hold a glass ball ornament. I need to go try that too. OK – the more I write the more I keep coming up with other things to try. Again I think this is a very versatile project!
Have a happy fun day and surprise someone special with a little treat!

Sep 19, 2009 | Circle Scissor Plus, class, Holiday Mini Catalog 2009, Rock 'n Roll, SU Ribbon, Summer Fun Cookout, Tutorial |
My post yesterday was short because I was in a hurry in between various things I was doing. So I’m back today to elaborate more on the flower – I had several people ask how to make the flower. I think when you see the Sweet Centers stamp set in the Holiday Mini Catalog it isn’t completely clear what that stamp is supposed to be.
So here is my version of the flower – and I’m sure you can do it many different ways with different amounts and layers of petals. I tried a couple of different things before I settled on what was the easiest for me.
1. First I started with a 3″ x 3″ square of card stock. I used the 1-3/4″ circle punch to punch a circle out of the center. I laid it over one of the sweet treat cups.
2. I stamped 16 petals. In these pictures they are just stamped in So Saffron ink on Whisper White card stock. My finished example they are stamped in So Saffron and rolled in Close to Cocoa on the edges for each petal. I cut out all 16 petals with my paper snips. I tried to punch the petals with one of the oval punches but none of them fit exactly. Now that I think about it if you didn’t have the stamp set you could still make flowers – by punching out petals with an oval and then use a circle to add the curve against the cup….just a thought of something else to try (wouldn’t that be pretty with DSP….ok see now I’m on to more ideas – I better get back to my craft room once I finish this post).
3. I basically created 4 layers of petals. The first layer is 4 petals attached to the square with snail.

4. The next layer is 4 more petals attached in the spaces between the first four. Again using snail. You could stop with that and have a pretty flower – but I wanted more.

5. I added the next layer of 4 petals with Stampin’ Dimensionals again in between the petals I already put down – place them in every other space.
The leaves you can see in this photo are attached with snail in between the layers that were snailed down and the ones on dimensionals. I actually added them at the very end.
6. Then add the the last 4 petals in the remaining spaces using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
7. So to finish I trimmed the square in the back so that you couldn’t see it. You may ask why didn’t I start with a circle – I tried that but it was harder to punch the hole out of the center and harder to get the petals lined up. So for me I found it easier using the square and trimming it afterwards. I did cut a 3″ circle using my Circle Scissors – my finished photo shows a So Saffron piece – but for my class I used Chocolate Chip which I like better. This is the back of the flower. So take the Sweet Treat cup and fill it with the candy – my picture used M&Ms but my class used chocolate covered raisins (they are all brown colored). Fill the cup and adhere it to the Chocolate chip circle. Then set it down and adhere the flower over the top of the cup – I just used my snail.
Then I used tape to attach the skewer to the back – my skewers were the ones from the Country Living Summer cookout kit (they aren’t pointed).
I added Old Olive ribbon and then create a tag using the Oval Stamp set.
Here is the final project one more time.

I hope that all made sense. I have new example using the Valentine heart which was giving me trouble to begin with. I figure out what to do though – so check back for that one on another day.
Thanks for stopping by – it is again a Rainy Day in Georgia …..stay dry.

Aug 28, 2009 | Big Shot, Circle Scissor Plus, class, Scrapbook Pages, SU Buttons, Summer Fun Cookout, Wanted |
Stampin’ Up! created a Summer Cookout Kit to sell the past few months. It is still available until the end of August and it is now on sale for $14.95 (40% off) and the refill (all the consumable supplies) is $9.95. At convention we were able to get a free refill with a certain purchase amount at Memento Mall. So I had my refill and a couple of my roommates gave me there’s too. Why – because Tyler’s birthday is this weekend and I wanted to plan a summer cookout theme party for him. But then he decided he did not want to have a birthday party after all – so now what to do with all the supplies. Since my scrapbook class was this week I decided instead I would try to turn this Summer Cookout Kit into a scrapbook layout – so my challenge was created – use the pieces from the kit to create a two page 12×12 layout…
The kit included the die-cut pieces for the invitation – including the skewer, food wrappers that were like tissue paper, coasters, tent cards, die cut tags, and linen thread.
So I got busy planning – colors in the kit are Bashful Blue, So Saffron, Ruby Red and Night of Navy. There was one problem that I ran into – all the die cut pieces for the invitation had pre-printed words and holes in them that I didn’t necessarily want in my layout. Solution – tuck the words/holes under something or put something over them. The only thing I didn’t use was the envelope – although I considered creating a hidden journaling pocket – the envelope could have been covered in the tissue paper, and there was one die-cut piece I didn’t use – I think it is supposed to be a piece of meat – it just looked strange to me. I even added all the little circles that were left from the holes – kind of a confetti sprinkled on the page. It turned out to be kind of a busy page (which is not normally what I end up with) and I don’t have my pictures on it yet. So here it is:

I added card stock – Bashful Blue, Ruby Red, Night of Navy and So Saffron. I added buttons in the same colors. The skewers are tied on with the linen thread at the bottom of each page – I used my paper piercer to poke holes through the page and then tied the linen thread through it. The Bashful Blue and So Saffron coasters were punched with the small star punch – those were glue around as needed to cover holes and add accents. The background is stamped with the Wanted stamp set.
To create the title I glued a piece of the tissue paper to a piece of card stock – so the red tissue paper went on Ruby Red card stock and the blue on Night of Navy card stock. Then the letters were cut with the Big Shot and the GoGo Boots alphabet dies.
When I add pictures later I plan to cut two of them with my Circle Scissor Plus to go on the coasters that are my circle mats. The tent cards were cut in half and these are picture mats – depending on the size of the picture I may leave the checked edge showing or cover it. I thought I did a pretty good job of using my kit.
So now everyone that has a kit – plan a party, take pictures and scrapbook using your kit left overs. We have something planned for the weekend (I’ll tell you about it next week) that I plan to take pictures of for this layout.
Have a happy scrappin’ day – it is raining here which is always a good day to stay inside and work on your scrapbooks….

Aug 23, 2009 | Baroque Motifs, Circle Circus, Circle Scissor Plus, class, Demonstrator, Designer Series Paper, Flight of the Butterfly, Great Friend, In Colors, Masking, Stampin' Up! Events, Stamps, SU Ribbon, Techniques, Thoughts & Prayers |
At my class this month I decided to use cards that I received at convention – as I looked through them all I ended up pulling several that were my favorite and realized they represented most of the In-Colors so that ended up being my “theme” for the class. I chose cards that featured the In-Colors. We made 5 cards total (one card featured 2 of the In-Colors) and stamped matching envelopes for each card. I generally kept the card designs exactly the same as the original creator except one that I didn’t have the stamp set for – so I replaced it with one I did have that I thought would give the same results. Lisa came to class and added her own little twist to each card and this afternoon she signed up as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – whoo hoo! Welcome Lisa to my PAWS team.
Most of the cards I used came from the Shoebox swap that I participated in – some of them I know who designed them and others I don’t. So if someone knows the original creator I’ll add their name here – just leave me a comment.
This first card features the Rich Razzleberry In-Color. The stamp set is Thoughts & Prayers and also Flight of the Butterfly. The Designer Series Paper is the Cottage Wall Paper. The original swap from convention used the Old Olive Patterns Designer Series Paper.
The stamp was inked up using the Stampin’ & Write Markers – Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry (yeah for In-Color Markers!) , and Pale Plum. The Pale Plum card stock was punched with the Eyelet Border Punch.
A little paper clip was tied with a piece of Rich Razzleberry Polka-Dot Ribbon.
The original card had a smaller “Thinking of You” stamped and punched with the Large Oval punch and then mounted on the Scallop Oval punched piece of Rich Razzleberry. I used the saying from the Thoughts & Prayers set which was larger – so mine is stamped and punched with the Scallop Oval and then mounted on a Wide Oval punched piece of Rich Razzleberry. Either one looked great.
The envelope was stamped to match the card.
I don’t know who designed this one – it was from the Shoebox Swap at the Shilo Hotel on Tuesday night before convention.
The second card features the Melon Mambo In-Color. The stamp sets I used was Baroque Motifs and Sincere Salutations.
This card was also from the Shoebox Swap and was designed by Janice Felty. Her original design used the large flower image from the Razzle Dazzle stamp set. Since I didn’t have that set I replaced it with one that I did have.
The Whisper White layer is punched on one side with the scallop edge punch. Then we positioned it on the front of the card and punched through the Whisper White and Melon Mambo card stock with the Scallop Oval punch to create a window.
Using a piece of Window Sheet and White StazOn ink the greeting from Sincere Salutations was stamped and then sandwiched between the two pieces of cardstock to make the window.
The Melon Mambo Polka Dot ribbon was tied in a knot and then wrapped around the front of the card and secured on the inside. The envelope was stamped to match the card.
This third card features Bermuda Bay In-Color. The stamp set is Great Friend that originally debuted in the Occasions Mini Catalog and is available in the new catalog too.
The card base on this one is Whisper White and then we cut three panels to adhere to the front – Bermuda Bay, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive.
The butterfly is stamped on a Whisper White circle and mounted on a Chocolate Chip circle. For my class the circles were cut with the Circle Scissor Plus cutting system. But the original card used the Big Shot and the Circles #2 Originals Die. Since I don’t have that die we cut our circles.
Three silver brads were added up in the top right corner.
This card was designed by Michele Schmidt for the Shoebox Swap. Michele was also one of my roommates at convention.
This next card features the Dusty Durango In-Color. The stamp set is a Hostess Level 2 set called Asian Artistry. This card uses a masking technique to create the circle which was inked using a Brayer and the Dusty Durango ink.
The bird image was then stamped with Black StazOn ink and the right edge of the circle was sponged with Soft Suede ink to create the shadow.
Some highlights were added with the White Gel Pen to the leaves. We also used an Aquapainter to “paint” the bird – this causes some of the ink to lighten up.
The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched with the Word Window punch and layered on some Basic Black card stock that was punched with the Modern Label punch.
I do not know who designed this card – so if you know please leave me a comment and I’ll add it here. This was also a card we made at the Shoebox swap on Tuesday night. I told you I got some great cards that night….
And the last card features the Soft Suede and Crushed Curry In-Colors. This is the Circle Circus stamp set and I also used Teeny Tiny Wishes in my class. The Designer Series Paper is from the Razzleberry Lemonade set.
The images were stamped on Very Vanilla card stock and punched out with various circle punches. There is a small Crushed Curry flower that was punched using the Trio Flower punch and has a Clear Rhinestone Brad in the center.
Soft Suede Polka Dot ribbon was wrapped around the Designer Paper before it was adhered to the front of the card.
The greeting was punched with the Modern Label punch. We stamped a matching envelope.
This card was designed by Elizabeth Martinez and we made this at the STARZ meeting on Wednesday night of Convention.
Thanks to all these ladies for sharing their card designs at convention.
If you live near Woodstock, Georgia I hope you will join me for my next class. Check my calendar to see what’s coming up.
Happy Stampin’!

What a way to start the day….. I was up early getting the boys out the door to school and checked my email. I had an email that said this:
Congratulations! Shelli has chosen you as one of the winners for her SoShelli.com Happy Birthday Creative Challenge! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us!
I had to read it more than once and then see who sent it because I couldn’t believe it. WOW! I was excited! What an honor to have Shelli personally choose one of my projects – I just can’t believe it!
Click HERE to visit Shelli’s blog for the announcement.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement I get from everyone!
Several people have asked which stamp set I selected as my free set – I decided to get For All You Do – I saw so many beautiful projects made with the set while I was at convention that I fell in love with it.
Now that I am back from convention I am working on my August Class Kit to Go so it should be ready soon.
I had two orders come yesterday with my ribbon for the ribbon share and DSP for the paper share so I’ll be getting that ready too.
Have a wonderful rest of the day!

Jul 29, 2009 | Blog Tour, Circle Circus, Circle Scissor Plus, Shaker Card, Spinner Card, Stamps |
As promised here is my tutorial for the Kaleidoscope card. The pictures weren’t sticking in the positions that I wanted so I have added captions on them in case they get in a wacky order when they display on your computer. You can click on the pictures to see a larger version. At the end is a pdf file which you should be able to download and it might be easier to follow than the actual post on the computer.

This is my Kaleidoscope card made with the Circle Circus stamp set featured in the July 2009 Royal Blog Tour
Basic Supply List:
- Card stock – Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Ballet Blue, Whisper White
- Window Sheets – Medium
- Ribbon – Old Olive wide Grosgrain
- Punches: 1-3/4” Circle, Word Window
- Classic Ink – Pumpkin Pie, Ballet Blue, Basic Black
- VersaMark Ink
- Black Embossing Powder
- Stampin’ Write Markers – Pumpkin Pie, Ballet Blue
- Bead Duos – Blue, Orange
- Bone Folder
- Paper Cutter with Scoring Blade
- Jumbo Brad
- Circle Circus stamp set including the extra rubber after mounting your stamps
- Family Phrases stamp set
- Circle Scissor Plus and Glass Mat
- Adhesive – Snail, Crystal Effects and Stampin’ Dimensionals
Card Instructions
Steps to complete the shaker box:
- Stamp the image in VersaMark ink on Whisper White card stock, cover with black embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool. Color image with Stampin’ Write Markers.
- Use the left over rubber from the die-cut stamp set. And cut away the outline of one that fits over your image. Trim away the corners. I use my Craft & Rubber scissors.
- Remove the backing from the rubber and adhere over your image. Then peel up the rubber leaving only the gray foam attached to your stamped image.
- Add some of the large beads from the Bead Duos to the center of the foam, covering about 1/3 of the image. I used Orange and Blue Bead Duos.
- Cover the foam with a piece of clear Window Sheet. Trim everything as needed.
- To cover the front I cut a circle out of Pumpkin Pie using the Circle Scissor Plus – cut it at 2-3/4”. Punch a hole in the center with the 1-3/4” circle punch.
- Cut a circle out of Ballet Blue using the Circle Scissor Plus – cut it at 2-1/2”. Punch a hole in the center with the 1-3/4” circle punch. I stamped on this piece with Ballet Blue ink using the dotted circle image.
- Layer the Ballet Blue circle on top of the Pumpkin Pie circle and then attach that to the top of the shaker box over the window sheet covering up the gray foam.

Shaker Box - Step 1

Shaker Box - Step 3

Shaker Box - Step 2

Shaker Box - Step 6- 8

Shaker Box - Step 4

Shaker Card - Step 5
Steps to complete the spinner:
- Create the base of the card. Mine is Old Olive card stock cut at 4-1/4” x 11” and scored at 5-1/2”. Fold this in half.
- Add the front layers to the card. I have a Pumpkin Pie layer that is 5” x 3-3/4” and a Ballet Blue layer that is 4-3/4” x 3-1/2”. The Ballet Blue layer is stamped with the dotted circle image in Pumpkin Pie ink.
- To the back of the shaker box add a 5/8” Jumbo Brad. I used a small dab of Crystal Effects so that it would not come off.

Spinner - Step 3
- Position the shaker box on the front of the card so that it is near the edge where you can add the punch out to create the notch for spinning it. Punch a hole for the brad. And then punch your notch through the layers.
- Cut a 3” circle using the Circle Scissor Plus. I used Pumpkin Pie card stock. Punch a hole in the center. Place this on the inside of the card. Feed the brad on the back of the shaker box through the front of the card and through this circle on the inside of the card. Flatten out the brad on the inside and then use a piece of plain tape to hold the brad in place on the circle. If you don’t do this then the card stock will turn around the brad rather than turning the brad which turns the shaker box. I hope that makes sense.

Spinner - Step 4

Spinner - Step 5

Spinner - Step 5
(Excuse the mess in the Step 5 picture, if you don’t pull your tape up multiple time your card stock won’t look like this – 🙂
Steps to complete the card:
- In order to make the inside look nice and cover the workings of the spinner I cut another piece of Old Olive card stock – 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” and punched a notch in it to match. Adhere this to the inside front of the card making sure your adhesive doesn’t interfere with the circle.
- Also punch a notch out of the back of the card. And I stamped a greeting on the inside.
- On the front of the card I tied a piece of Old Olive wide grosgrain ribbon around the left side of the card. Stamped ‘happy birthday’ on Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the Word Window punched. I pulled the edges across my Pumpkin Pie ink pad and attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the front of the card.
