I’m back with another project that I submitted for the Stampin’ Up! Artisan Award Contest. This is one of the two 3D projects that I created.
I actually made this box originally as a project for Create with Connie & Julie and it was a birthday theme – click here to see that one. I recreated it for the contest and made a new baby theme. One of my friends, Jenn, said she thought the box would be perfect for a baby gift and I agree. I needed something to go inside so I bought cloth diapers and cut Build-a-Bears with pajamas on them and put those on the diapers and added the ribbon trim. I thought they would be cute burp cloths.
The box has 6 burp cloths inside – 3 in So Saffron and 3 in Old Olive. I rolled them up and tied them with the Striped Ribbon.
The box is made from the Fancy Favor box – actually two of them. On each side of the box I have two Build-a-Bears and they are all “holding hands” all the way around the box. I made a boy and a girl on each side. I added the animals in between. The paper is the Tall Tales Designer Series paper.
I was really happy with the little hanging tag once I figured out what I wanted to do. The giraffe is cute with the Rock-N-Roll technique – inked in So Saffron and rolled in Chocolate Chip. The tag is two sided since you could see both sides of the project and I didn’t want an “ugly” side. So the back of each animal is colored to match the front. You can just barely see the back of the other giraffe – it is So Saffron.
I hope you like it. It was fun to make. Although I don’t see myself making any more little bear burp cloths. The material of those cloth diapers was just hard to work with because the edges were pretty thin. Oh well. All in all a cute project.

Today I’m sharing the 4th project from my Treats class that I had last week. This is one of my favorite projects and I have shared one with you already a couple of months ago – I’ll look back but I think it was probably back in June. This is a cupcake box.
This one was supposed to represent a “Birthday” treat at my class. I used the Tall Tales Designer Series Paper and the Animal Stories stamp set. The “happy birthday” comes from the Family Phrases stamp set. I like using that set because I like the font they used for all the little phrases.
When you pull the lid off of the box inside is a holder for a single cupcake. Someone at my class had a great idea – she has guests coming in from out of town and they are staying at a local hotel. She plans to make them each a box and leave it in the hotel for them as a Welcome treat when they arrive. Isn’t that a great idea!
The original box idea is from a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in Canada – her name is Heather Summers and I love all of her work. She made the cupcake box for a baby shower originally and had the ribbon go all the way around the whole box and the lid. I decided that I didn’t want to have to retie the ribbon when i took the lid off so I put slit in each side and slid the ribbon through so it actually only goes around the top of the lid. It reminds me of those gifts on TV show where all they do is lift off the lid and the packaging stays perfect.
The one I made early in the summer was using the new In_Colors and the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper. Here is a picture with the lid off so you can see the inside.
The base of the box is a 12″ x 12″ piece of card stock – scored at 4″ all the way around. The insert on the inside that holds the cupcake in place so it can’t slide around is 6-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ and then scores at 1-1/4″ all the way around. Then in the center cut out a 2-1/2″ circle. I used the Circle Scissor to do that.
This box holds a full size cupcake. You could redesign it to use the mini cupcakes too. The lid is 6-5/8″ x 6-5/8″ scored at 1-1/4″ all the way around.
I used sticky strip to hold together the base of the box and the lid. I did not put any adhesive on the insert as it fits so snuggly inside that you don’t need it. And I actually considered not putting any adhesive on the box either. Once you put the lid on it would stay shut. And then when you lift off the lid the box would fall open to reveal the cupcake. I actually think I like that idea better. It would be kind of magical to pull up the lid and have the sides fall down for the reveal. And using less adhesive is always a bonus!
If you don’t want to put a cupcake in there then leave out the insert and just use it as a gift box. Or another idea is to put an ornament on the inside – the insert would also hold a glass ball ornament. I need to go try that too. OK – the more I write the more I keep coming up with other things to try. Again I think this is a very versatile project!

On Tuesday night my roommates(Sue, Michele, Diane) and I participated in a Shoebox swap with a group of Demonstrators at one of the local hotels. This is my first real Shoebox swap at convention and I’m excited to participate. Basically this is how it works – there are in this case 42 people plus the hostess. Everyone designs a full card and you cuts supplies for 42+1 for the hostess. Half of them we make into finished cards and the other half stay as pieces. When we get there we turn in our finished cards and take our shoebox to a spot at a table. Inside the shoebox are the pieces for the other cards (individually bagged) plus all the supplies needed to make the card and a completed card. Then we get divided into two groups. Each group makes half of the 42 cards by rotating around the tables to all of the shoeboxes. Then when we leave we pick up the other half of the cards that are already made for us. The hostess sorts all the finished cards while we are making the non-finished ones.
Here is my card for the Shoebox Swap – I hope everyone likes it – it is a Pocket card – I love pocket cards for invitations but birth announcements and even as a gift card holder it would work too. This one just says “let’s celebrate” so it could be made into an invitation or just a birthday card.
The stamp set is Animal Stories and I used the Tall Tales Designer Series Paper. The colors are Old Olive, So Saffron, Chocolate Chip and Brilliant Blue.
The picture shows two cards – one with the insert pulled out of the pocket and one with it tucked inside.
