Goody Goody Gum Drops

You know how sometimes you are working on projects and then you look down at the mess you have on you table and something pops out at you and says “hey, look at me, don’t I look like _________”.  It varies on the day what might pop into your head at the time.  Well while I was up at Stephanie’s and we were working in the craft room whatever I was doing just wasn’t coming out like I wanted but in the process I had this pile on the table and I looked at it and thought – “hmm, those look just like gum drops” – ok so maybe I just wanted something sweet at the time but I put forth my best effort to turn them into gum drops and create a card.

gum-dropsSo it turned out to be a rather silly card….

The “Gum Drops” are the Scallop Oval punch punched with a circle to create the rounded bottom.  I covered them with VersaMark ink and Irridescant Ice Embossing Powder and heat set them.  I think I need a variety of colors but what was on the table were all the red pieces.

Then what to do with all the gum drops – I stacked them various ways and I think because they were all the same color nothing really looked right.  So I just stacked them one on top of the other and thought about the penguin in Punch Pals.  They would be funny standing on each other’s heads – they are playing with the gum drops and building towers……

So it’s a bit silly but hey – if you ever need gum drops for anything now you know how to make them with your punches!

From Our Hearts

I found this organization earlier this year – I’m not exactly sure where I came across them but mostly likely on one of the stamping yahoo groups that I am part of.  I had lots of card fronts from swaps and I just hate to throw them away and I didn’t have time to turn them into cards so I had kept them in a box.  Once I found this organization I knew that I now had found a place for them to go.  Over the summer I started cleaning out my craft closet and craft room and collecting all the card fronts into one box – I had so many I had to find a bigger box.  Once the box was full I sent it to the From Out Hearts organization. That was a couple of months ago now and I had forgotten that they would post it on their blog when the box was received.  So I thought I better go see if I could find it … I did and here is the Post on my package on the From Our Hearts blog.

This is the ABOUT description on their blog:  From Our Hearts is a not-for-profit 501c3 that was started by stampers wanting to help service men and women stay in touch with their loved ones back home in the States by providing them with quality handcrafted greeting cards. Today, our international effort has sent thousands of cards to our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, all donated by the huge stamping community world wide.

You can help in various ways – by donating on the blog to pay for supplies such as envelopes, postage, or packing tape.  You can donate completed cards with or without envelopes, you can donate card fronts that they will turn into full cards.    Or just donate money.

I’ll be gathering more cards to send to the group – if you live near me and have any that you want to include in my shipment be sure to bring them the next time you come to my house.  Holiday cards have already been sent overseas so now they are looking for Valentine’s Day, and the general stuff – birthday, sympathy, new baby, get well, miss you, etc…

Thanks so much!

Just Tennis

I tried to post this earlier today – and my internet went out and was down most of the day – I was hoping my post got saved but it didn’t so I’m starting over.

I thought I would try a change of pace and post something that wasn’t related to the holidays.  Tennis season just ended for us – unless your team is in the playoffs and no one in our family fits that category this time.  Ryan’s junior tennis team has had the same husband and wife coach them for many years – they were doing it long before Ryan joined the team.  They are the nicest couple and so good with the kids – always encouraging to them and positive.  They are great with the parents too – keeping us well informed.  I appreciate that and know it is a lot of hard work.  So to thank them we bought a gift card and I made them a thank you card – so I wanted to share that with you today.  It is a quick simple card that could be made with any of the Just “sport” stamp sets or even other stamp sets with circles or flowers.

tennis-thank-youHere are the Stampin’ Up! supplies I used:

  • Garden Green card stock and ink
  • Basic Black card stock and ink
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Summer Sun ink
  • Just Tennis stamp set
  • Flight of the Butterfly stamp set (for the sentiment)
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • 3/4″ circle punch
  • slit punch (on the front under the black to hold the gift card on the inside)
  • Whisper White Medium envelope

And I just found my notes from Cari’s Congo Cookie recipe that I was supposed to share with my stamp club members.

Here it is:

CONGO COOKIES

  • 3-eggs
  • 1-1/2 stick butter
  • 2-3/4 cups flour
  • 1 box lt brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 12oz. bag of chocolate chips

Melt butter and mix with brown sugar.  let cool.  add beaten eggs.  add allother ingredients.  Bake in a greased 13 x 9 pan at 350 for 30-35 minutes.

Enjoy!

Snow Buddies Bookmark

snowbuddies-book-markThis is a quick project that I made when I was up in Virginia for my girls week.  I just love this hostess level 2 stamp set in the Holiday Mini called Snow Buddies.  With a variety of stamps you can build your own snowman.  And there are snowflakes and the little swoosh of wind.  Here is how you make it:

  1. Stamp the images on a piece of 4″ x 1-3/4″ of Whisper White card stock using Jet Black StazOn ink.  I used the tall snowman, the ice skates, the knit cap, the arms, and the snow flake and swoosh of wind.  Just a hint if you’ll stamp the ice skates a little below the body of the snowman then you can add with a black marker the stick legs.  That was easier for me than trying to line up the skates perfectly on the bottom of the snowman.  I did pretty good with the knit cap, but error on the above the snowman side because then it just looks like the wind is blowing it off his head.  Or if you have to have it lined up perfect use a stamp-a-ma-jig.
  2. Watercolor the images with an aqua-painter and classic ink – I used Bermuda Bay, Real Red and some Going Gray.  Use the gray to add shadows on the snowman to give him some dimension and under his skates to ground him.
  3. Cut an 8-1/2″ x 2″ strip of Bermuda Bay card stock and score it in half at 4-1/4″.
  4. Attach the white stamped piece to one side of the Bermuda Bay card stock.
  5. Put a magnet on the inside of the Bermuda Bay card stock near the bottom edge.  This will hold the book mark in place on the page of your book.  Make sure the magnet pieces attract each other and are position in the same spot.  The easiest way to do that is to attach a magnet to one side, then put the second magnet on the first so they stick together, then close the bookmark so the adhesive from the second magnet sticks to it.  Press down and then pull the magnets apart.  I found some business card size magnets that already had adhesive on them.  I cut them into pieces – I used my paper cutter to cut them – it doesn’t cut through them but cuts enough that you can then break off the piece you need.

These would be cute little projects to include with a book that you are giving as a gift.  Make one for each season or something more generic.  How about this for a Christmas gift for a friend – a good book, a hand-made bookmark and some hot cocoa – sounds good on a cold winter night!

Stampin’ Up! has a Holiday Gift Giving Guide – click the Santa on my right-hand side-bar to download it.  It is full of gift giving ideas for kids, for teens, for card makers and scrapbookers, for stocking stuffers, for neighbors and more.  There is even a “Dream Come True Gift”  – a Big Shot Gift Pack that includes the Big Shot, a collection of dies and accessories.  And when you spend $50 on items in the Gift Giving Guide you get a free Decor Elements piece (up to $16.95 value)…

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and your Halloween. I can’t believe it is already November!!

November Calender in My Digital Studio

After learning about calenders in Stampin’ Up!’s new My Digital Studio the other day I came up with an idea as I was preparing for my classes today.    I wanted to create a monthly calendar showing all my upcoming classes and events.  So yesterday I started to play and my idea came together – I finished up late – I should have been sleeping – but instead was on the computer adding more images to my calendar.  So here is what I came up with……..

class calendar-003

So what do you think?  I know when my kids were younger and I was room mom in their class I always made fun calendars to hand out of all the activities or volunteers that were scheduled.  This program would have been perfect for that.  I’m going to try to do this each month and post to my blog and send out on email to my newsletter list.

My Digital Studio has Calendar templates for 2010 and 2011 – you choose a Designer Template and it has the grid with the numbers along with the month and year.  The calendar Designer Templates aren’t “designed” with colors or images or anything else.  In order to create a 2009 month I just went and found a month that started on the same day as the one I was creating – then selected Insert Duplicate Page to make a copy of it.  Then I did my editing – by changing the month and year and deleting any extra days.  I added background paper and then my stamped images and embellishments.  I also added a piece of Whisper White card stock as a page layer so that I could size it and place it behind my grid so that all the calendar information was visible.  I used the new Medallion Digital Download – it is not included in the original My Digital Studio release but you can get it as a Digital Download for $1.95 – to add a background accent – I adjusted the opacity so it would just be a faint image in the background.

Fun, Fun!  Can you tell what colors I used – Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Old Olive, and Ruby Red – those are some of the colors I like to use for fall.  I’m almost finished with my certification.  Every time I play with I learn a little more…

Have a fun day!  I’ll be stamping the day away in my Holiday Card Making classes – so off to finish setting up for those.  Thanks for stopping by.
