Mar 20, 2010 | Big Shot, Cards, Pocket Silhouettes |
I’m glad I’m not in a spelling bee and my word is Silhouettes – I would get it wrong every time – I always have to look it up. Today’s card is a swap I received at the STARZ meeting this month. It was created by my friend Cindy – her blog is here. She is also featuring the swaps and projects from the STARZ meeting right now – I’ll be posting some of the same creations that she already has up.
I was going to use Cindy’s card for my class yesterday but I already had all the projects I needed so I didn’t have room for more. I could make another Birds and Butterflies class because there are so many stamp sets that I didn’t even use that feature birds and butterflies.
She used one of my favorite little stamp sets – Pocket Silhouettes. The set itself doesn’t have birds or butterflies but she added some die-cut butterflies to the card so it would have fit my theme. I would not have put these colors together but they are great! Soft Suede, Regal Rose and So Saffron.
And notice on the bottom it is ruffled lace. Using the Eyelet Border punch she punched a piece of So Saffron card stock and then ran it through the crimper to create ruffles. When you do this make sure you start with a piece that is longer than what you want the finished piece to be. Running it through the crimper causes a “shrink” effect.
I love the card Cindy! Thanks for sharing it.

Mar 19, 2010 | Designer Series Paper, Eastern Blooms, Stamper's Club |
Have you noticed the Thoroughly Modern File Folders in the Stampin’ Up! Catalog? They coordinate with the Thoroughly Modern Designer Series paper. There are 12 folders in the package. But you can use them for more than just file folders. Here is a great project that was shown in the Stampin’ Success magazine (our Demonstrator magazine). I saw a variation of this project at convention and then at our last STARZ meeting Wendy shared this project with her group. I was thrilled because I already had it planned for my Stamper’s Club meeting.
For this project the file folder was scored, cut and folded to create a notepad holder with a pocket, a pen holder and a velcro closure. I thought it would be great for shopping – write you list on the pad stick your coupons in the pocket and head to the grocery store.
For this one the stamp set is Eastern Blooms. The center of the large flower is colored with the Soft Suede marker and then the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint was added to the center.
The folders come in Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede, Rose Red, and Sahara Sand. There are 3 each of 4 different designs.
Here is another one –
for this one I used the For All You Do stamp set. The flowers are cut and layered and then I added a vintage brad to the center.
I added a pile of the medium flowers in the inside corner. The pens are the kind with the barrel that you can open and then insert a piece of the matching designer series paper.
It was a fun project and I think everyone at the Stamper’s Club meeting liked it. It is great when its something fun and something useful.
Have a great weekend – I’m glad you stopped by.

Mar 19, 2010 | Demonstrator |
I recently joined a new training program with Stampin’ Up! Part of this program is completing challenges related to my business. I was challenged to share my Stampin’ Up! story with others. I would like to share it with you.
My Stampin’ up! story – I think I have 2 beginnings – when I was first introduced to Stampin’ Up! more than 13 years ago and when I became a demonstrator which was 5 years ago. I have always loved to create – even as a little girl – I made everything I could. I really don’t remember exactly who brought me to Stampin’ Up! but I know exactly who the demonstrator was that showed me about the products. I was already making invitations for my kids birthday parties and valentines for school, etc. so stamping was something that fit right in to the things I was already doing. I stamped on and off for years – always looking forward to the catalog coming out in the summer – that was the highlight of the summer. I also spent a lot of time doing things for everyone else – I worked a full time job, had a family with 3 young boys and 2 dogs, I was room-mom, school volunteer, soccer mom, cub scout leader, scout day camp co-director, you name it I’m sure I did it at some point. I lost touch with Stampin’ Up! for a couple of years. I was so busy with my life that I never took time for me and I really needed it. I found a small group that stamped once a month and usually made one project – it wasn’t enough and I wanted more. I spent a couple of months researching the idea of becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and talking and thinking about it before I decided I REALLY wanted to do this. And thinking back on it I think I NEEDED to do this – I needed something for me – I needed “me time” – to wind down, to relax, to de-stress, to help regroup so that I could keep going and without realizing it I needed this to help me face the fears that I have – to talk in front of a group, to meet new people, to call people on the phone. I have loved every minute of being a demonstrator even when I have to do the things I’m afraid of and in the process have made many friends and met new people from all over the world. This is my passion and I love to share it.
Thanks for letting me share it with you.

Mar 18, 2010 | Cards, Occasion Mini 2010 |
Today’s card share is a card I made for a friend of my mom’s. She called and wanted a special card that she could send to her sisters. This is what I came up with –
It is a pocket card with an insert that you pull out – in the picture I have one in the pocket and one shown out of the pocket. I used the Garden from the Heart stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog – it is a pretty set. Here is the list of supplies that I used:
- Garden from the Heart stamp set
- Wonderful Favorites stamp set
- Kraft card stock: Kraft, Mellow Moss, Perfect Plum, Whisper White
- Jet Black StazOn ink
- Stampin’ Write Markers: Mellow Moss, Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Creamy Carmel
- Linen Thread
- Curly Label Punch
- Scallop Trim Border Punch
- Corner Rounder Punch
- Color Spritzer
- Stamp-a-ma-Jig
- Medium Whisper White Envelope
Spring is coming – the trees are getting little blossoms – I can just see the first white flowers on our Bradford Pear trees – they are pretty but they stink. It has still been fairly cool here so still no bird nests but I have seen some activity around the houses this morning. The Bluebirds have been inside both house #2 and house #3 today. The Chick-a-dees have been hanging around too and I saw a Tufted Titmouse looking inside house #1. So maybe soon they will be busy building nests.

Mar 17, 2010 | Big Shot, family, SU Buttons |
I hope your St. Patrick’s Day has been good and green! I started to put on a blue shirt this morning and then remembered I better wear green. Ryan had a band performance today during school so they had to wear their band attire and it is not green. So we used a piece of green ribbon and tied it around his wrist.
Here is a quick project that we made at the STARZ group meeting the other weekend.
It is a pin that you could attach to your shirt or bag. This one was made out of a variety of green fabric prints. These were cut using the Big Shot die cut machine and the Circles #2 Originals die. Then you just layer various circles, add a piece of green touelle, and a clear button to the center and sew it with some green thread. On the back add a pin back and there you have a quick little project. Or put it on a headband or pony tail holder or add it to a key chain.
For a different holiday use different fabrics. The Big Shot can cut several layers of fabric at the same time – depending on the thickness you can cut as many as 8 layers at the same time.
And look what we have flying outside the house –
the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets flag. Kyle finally heard from them – it was a long wait at least for me – and he was accepted. Yeah! We are very proud of him!
Now we have to figure out what all he has to do next.
Today was also the day we picked up graduation announcements – I did order the formal printed announcements from the school. I plan to make invitations for a little celebration – he won’t want very much but we’ll doing something anyway. We are already half way through March – so May will be here before we know it.
Smiles!
