If you live near Woodstock, GA and have teenagers (or pre-teens) you should come listen to J.Tom Morgan speak Thursday, Oct. 8th at 7 pm in the Etowah High School Auditorium. I heard him speak last year. If you live in Georgia you may consider getting his book – the book is written for teenagers and discusses real cases.
“Ignorance is No Defense – A Teenager’s Guide to Georgia Law”
by J.Tom Morgan
“I hope that this book will empower teenagers with knowledge about laws that affect them; enable early intervention in problem situations; and prevent problems from arising in the first place. My goal is for teenagers to lead safe, happy, and fulfilling lives – engaging their questioning minds and fun-loving spirits- without encountering the criminal justice system.”
- Mr. Morgan is a former District Attorney of DeKalb County and is a nationally recognized expert on the prosecution of crimes against children. He has dedicated his career to child advocacy and is committed to helping young people avoid being both victims and perpetrators of crimes.
- Very sensitive topics will be discussed; therefore, this is an adult only event. RESERVE YOUR SEAT TODAY!
- Please contact Leslie Metropol, [email protected] or Nancy Olson, [email protected], E.T. Booth P.A.S.S. Coordinators, for reservations. Proceeds from the purchase of each book go to the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides free treatment for youths who are victims of abuse.
- Copies of his book will be available for $10, but need to be reserved in advance. The books may be picked up and payment made the evening of the presentation. BOOKS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE P.A.S.S. MEETING with a portion of the proceeds going to the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy, Inc., a non-profit that provides free treatment for youths who are victims of abuse.
I just thought I would pass on the information.

Oh my goodness….I haven’t posted much in several days. I had too many things on my plate and ran way short of time.
Friday was a big day – it was 8th grade night with the high school Marching Band. So normally on 8th grade night the 8th grade band is invited to join the marching band at the football game. They play in the stands with them and watch the half-time show. It is a way to show the 8th graders a little about being in the marching band. That was pretty much the scope of it. The 8th grader normally get a t-shirt and some other little treat – one year I stamped the CD envelopes and filled them with cookies – here is what they looked like:
The ones I made for the band were in our school colors and I used an old retired music stamp set. I made about 80 of those that year. I think that was 2 years ago. Anyway since I have an 8th grader and a junior in the marching band I figured it was appropriate for me to help with 8th grade night this year. So about 3 weeks ago we started planning our 8th grade night and somehow I ended up in charge.
So here is what we did this year – we had a tailgate party before the football game. We grilled over 300 hotdogs and served all the marching band students, 65 8th graders plus their families, plus all the parent volunteers. Gave the 8th grader t-shirts and pom-poms, had a prize drawing, a parent meeting, the 8th grade parents got an overview of what the marching band does and a tour around the stadium to get their tickets, seats, etc. Anyway it turned out to be a much larger event that what I thought it was going to be and coordinating all the volunteers was a bigger job that what I had planned for. But it was an AWESOME event and the biggest turn out of 8th graders that they have had in years. If all of the kids join marching band next year it will exciting – we have a large group of seniors graduating and we need an even larger group of 8th graders to replace them so that the band will grow.
I was totally exhausted on Friday night. But my weekend didn’t end there.
Saturday was my Holiday Bazaar. So I was working on items for that all week too and got up early Sat. to do final preparations, pack up my car, I made muffins (we had to bring food to share – but I was the only one that baked, everyone else did store bought – I should have done the same). I was over there shortly after 10 to set up my table and the bazaar ran from noon to 7:oo PM. It was a long day but I met lots of nice new people and saw many people that I already knew. It was a new experience and I’ll be sharing this week the projects that I made. I wish I had taken a picture of my table set up but I forgot. I think it turned out well and I set up my son’s laptop to run a slide show of my first My Digital Studio album. I haven’t had a chance to get a printed book so I ran the slide show instead. I think this will be a great alternative to printing the albums to send to some of my family – I can create the movies or slide shows for them to see and a printed version for me to have.
This is the front cover of my album – the picture is Cloudland Canyon in the Northwest corner of Georgia – yes we have our very own canyons out here – they aren’t all out west. This was a trip we took in 2006 that I never put in a scrapbook. Using the My Digital Studio I was able to get the whole album together in a few days. I did decide that I am still a slow scrapper even in digital. I tend to dwell to much over the little details, moving and adding and changing and resizing – but the great things about the digital is I can do all that without wasting a lot of card stock.
So anyway I have had an extremely busy week and now I have to catch up on all the things I neglected to do for the last week (or longer). If you are waiting on a reply about buying some of my retired stamps – I am getting those out tonight and in the morning. I’m going to go back through all my email to make sure I haven’t missed any questions from anyone.
This week I’ll have out the new Wow Scrapbook Kit and I’ll be finishing up the tutorial for the September Class Kit to Go. I’m working on my October newsletter too for those of you that are on my mailing list.
Thank you for stopping by. I have plenty of things going on this week too – a band exhibition, a band competition, a Decor Elements party, a club meeting and then just the kids practices and stuff.
Have a productive week – I sure hope I do!

Sep 30, 2009 | Designer Series Paper, family, In Colors, Scrapbook Pages |
Just a quick post since I have a million things to do and not enough time to do them.
Here is a quick share of a scrapbook page that my sister-in-law made for me – it is the same layout as the one my niece (her daughter) created that I posted a couple of weeks ago.
The picture is my boys and I at the beach this summer. We always watch the families that go down to the beach and wear their pretty white shirts and khaki’s so this year we thought we would try to do the same. Except that Kyle didn’t bring a white shirt – so he borrowed one from my nephew that had a logo on it – so he is standing behind me so I’m covering the logo. The same thing with Greg (although he isn’t in this picture) – he borrowed a shirt from my brother-in-law and then we stood one of the kids in front of him to cover the logo on that shirt. The things we do sometimes to have everything the way we want it.
The layout uses the Baja Breeze In-color from last year and Chocolate Chip as the two main colors, the Retired Parisian Breeze Specialty Designer Paper and an assortment of buttons and ribbons.
I love it!
Thanks for checking in today.

One non stamp related item….
We have hit a milestone – Kyle submitted his first college application yesterday.
He completed the online application for Ga Tech and hit the submit button – after several reviews from both Greg and I. October 1 was the deadline for the Early Notification – he was cutting it a little bit close – but now it is done and now we wait.
The notification date is November 20th. I’m hoping that he makes it – his birthday is November 21st – wouldn’t that be a great birthday present!
Greg and I both graduated from Ga Tech (that was where we met) so we would be thrilled for him to go there.
Have a great Day!

So we are home from our mini vacation. The rain finally stopped but not after doing a number on many parts of Georgia and lots of the areas around us. They have officially called this an EPIC flood –http://www.wsbtv.com/news/21115210/detail.html.
We ended up going late on Monday to Red Top Mountain. We encountered traffic – well dead stopped traffic – probably because the interstate near us was closed in both directions as it was under water and that was the best alternate for everyone. So we headed out a different direction and a round about way to get there. As it turned out the way we normally go was closed due to the road being washed away so in either case we would have been detoured any way. The rain was nice enough to stop and we were able to unpack and grill out for dinner. Tuesday, Wed, and Thrs turned out to be beautiful sunny days – who would have thought based on the weather report.

sign on Tuesday - on Wednesday I couldn't see the sign at all - it was completely covered

sign on Thursday - you can just barely see the top edge - look at the water level on the trees - the water is down from where it was on Wed.
We were on Lake Allatoona and it was high – on the news yesterday they reported it as 13 feet above full pool. All the trees around the edge of the lake are in the water and many of the hiking trails are partially or mostly under water. We tried to hike one of the trails on Tuesday and didn’t get far because of the water. So we went over to another trail and hiked part of it. On Wednesday we went backed and hiked the rest and discovered that the lake level was still rising on Wednesday – part of the trail we hiked Tuesday was now under water. I also took pictures of a sign that was in the water on Tuesday, by Wed I couldn’t even see it anymore, then Thursday before we left I could just barely see the top again.
I think this was a record for GA. I can remember flooding several years ago from one of the hurricanes but it wasn’t this bad. And even longer ago when we lived in Powder Springs I remember the Sweetwater creek flooding, but this time it covered I-20 and Six Flags theme park – oh my the amount of water. Here is a link of some pictures of the flooded roller coasters – http://www.greenpacks.org/2009/09/22/six-flags-under-water-due-to-flooding-in-atlanta/
Here is a picture I found of I-575 flooded – this is only a few miles from our house
– this I think is one of the traffic cameras.
So here are some other pictures at Red Top Mtn park of the lake that I took while we were there.

White Tail Trail - cut off by the water

trail under water - look at the trees

water was still rising on Wed. - we walked across this section of the trail on Tues.

sunset on Lake Allatoona
Tonight is Friday night and it is football night – Etowah versus Woodstock.
Cross your fingers for good weather and a great game!

Enough already – we have had rain everyday since last Tuesday and now it is Monday and it has been POURING since Sunday morning. The boys (well Tyler and Ryan) have Fall break this week from school. We have plans to go to Red Top Mountain State Park for a few days and stay in a cabin (good thing we aren’t tent camping). I waited to do my shopping hoping the rain would stop but no luck so Ryan and I headed out a while ago to our local major discount store. The whole time we were in there they were announcing cars that needed to be moved due to parts of the parking lot flooding. Then we left there and went to the grocery store – a man in there told us our main road going over to the interstate was closed because of flooding. We are planning to head out the back side of Towne Lake so we don’t have to go that way. But now I think I will call the park and see if any of those roads are closed….
Kyle was sent home early from Kennesaw State – so they must have closed roads over there too. This is just crazy and the forecast has rain all the way through next weekend. So much for a nice fall break for the boys.
I’m not sure how many nice photos I’ll get to take on this trip maybe just a bunch of everyone looking like drowned rats.
I’ll be updating my blog with the rest of the projects from my Treat class last week. I may not be checking email as frequently though.
Anyway – I guess I’ll go pack up now….
