Jan 19, 2010 | family, My Digital Studio, Scrapbook Pages |
Last night and this morning I worked on another scrapbook page using the My Digital Studio. I am taking the online class that Heather Summers is offering. For the moment I skipped ahead to lesson 6 and did a page for that one – I’ll go back to the others later.
Since the last page was about Ryan – this time I decided to create a page about Tyler. These are photos of Tyler and the Etowah Marching Band at one of the band competitions they went to this fall. I picked a variety of pictures of the performance. Two of the photos have circles that highlight where Tyler is. The lower left photo is an octet that played at the end of the performance. I need to add a little more journaling so that others will know that it is Tyler in the band.
Stampin’ Up! supplies:
– My Digital Studio software
– Background – color matched to the blue in the band logo at 90% Opacity with text at 100% to create the background
– Stamps –Thought’s & Prayers for the tree, School Days for the circle
– Embellishments – Modern label punch, white grosgrain ribbon, black brads
The bands show this year was titled “A Day in the Park”. I’ll need to create another page showing all of the things going on at the beginning before they started playing – the kids split up into groups like they were at a park and did all different things – played ball, frisbee, had a picnic, walked the dog, etc. It was a very fun show. The closer was the octet playing while it “rained” the rest of the band went and got in a huddle under umbrellas. The drum major and one of the color guard girls did a little “dance” where he bring her the umbrellas and twirls her around – they end with the “kiss” behind the umbrella and she kicks up her leg. It was really cute.
Thanks for visiting today.
I’m going to meet a new demonstrator friend, Jenn, tonight and join her at the Ronald McDonald House to do some stamping with the guests that are there.

One more thing to share – not stamping related – but about Kyle (my 18 year old). I just got this email from the college – we knew he had earned the award they called at the end of the semester but we hadn’t seen it in writing yet. I thought I would share – we are very proud of him!
Dear JEHP students and parents,
Our fall grade statistices are in, and we thought you would be interested in the results. JEHP students did exceptionally well in their classes:
- The average GPA was a 3.4, in an average of 10.5 credit hours.
- 37 students (30%) earned a 4.0 in their KSU coursework, including 27 students taking 9 or more credit hours, who will be named to the President’s List.
- An additional 31 students earned a GPA between 3.5 – 3.99, including 23 taking 9 credits or more who will be named to the Dean’s List.
- 54% of JEHP students earned a 3.5 or higher. 106 of 124 students earned a 3.0 or higher.
- 39% of students enrolled in KSU classes full-time, taking four or five classes at KSU.
Congratulations to all of you for your success in your first semester of college work!
Each year, we select a JEHP student as the recipient of the Outstanding JEHP Student Award. The award is determined by the highest GPA in the largest number of credit hours and honors classes. The recipient is honored along with the top senior from every academic major on campus at the University Scholars Awards Ceremony, which will take place in April. Please join me in congratulating Kyle Davis of Etowah High School as this year’s award recipient. Bravo, Kyle, and kudos to all our JEHP students on a successful fall term. I know you make your families and your high schools very proud.

I’m a proud mom – can you tell!

I made these little snowflake tins last week to give to the girls in my Stamp Club when we had our meeting Friday night.
I used small squares tins that have the window in the lid. The base of the tin was wrapped in a strip of the Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini catalog. The lid is wrapped with Very Vanilla Grosgrain ribbon. I used the Tombo Multipurpose adhesive – the liquid glue in the green bottle to attach both the paper and the ribbon to the tin. I added the little ribbon knot with a mini glue dot.
I used the Snowflake punch and punched three snowflakes – one in Very Vanilla, one in Chocolate Chip and one in Taken with Teal. I punched a hole in the center of each with the paper piercer and also in the center of the window. I used a silver brad through the center of all three snowflakes and then put that through the lid.
On the inside I used my Clear Scallop Square Bigz Die to cut pieces of wax paper to line the inside of the tin and then added my little holiday pretzel treats. When I made the treats I used red and green M&Ms because I originally planned to decorate the tin in red and green. But then switched to the browns and teals so I should have gotten a different color of M&Ms for my treats. Oh, well, this time they just won’t match.
The pretzel treats are really good – the right combination of sweet and salty and very easy to make. I use the square shaped waffle pretzels – lay them all out on a tray in a single layer. Turn the oven on to a low temp 160 or 170. Now put a Hershey’s Kiss on top of each pretzel (unwrapped from the foil). They used to sell unwrapped kisses during the holidays but I wasn’t able to find them anywhere this year. So I had to unwrap all the kisses – that takes the longest.
Set the tray in the oven for about 6 minutes. Take it out and press an M&M into the top of the Kiss. If you can’t press it down then stick the tray back in the oven for another minute or so until the kiss is soft but still has it’s shape. When you take them out then work quickly to press an M&M into the top of each kiss. Then I take the whole tray and set it in the fridge for them to cool and set up again. My kids love them and you can make them for any holiday by changing the color of the M&Ms on top.
For the late night stampers group – we have a challenge to post a project every day for 12 days – the 12 days of Christmas Challenge. We have to send the ideas to the group so this is my Day 3 project. For Day 1 it was the movie ticket holder I posted last week and for Day 2 the scallop square fabric bags that I posted earlier.
Thanks for stopping by. I started playing with some of my new stuff today and will hopefully have some creations to share next week.
Oh – one more thing – this is family related. I just found out last night from Kyle (my oldest son) that he has an interview today (that is where he is now) with MIT. It is part of the application process. He tells me this at 7 pm because I need to find him a blazer, dress pants and dress shoes to wear to the interview. A little more notice please would have been nice…so I remember the very helpful man that found a jacket for Tyler to wear to the Homecoming Dance and since I was short on time I checked to see how late that store was open. Luckily on Saturday night they were open until 9 and we headed down there. We got there just before 8 – luckily Kyle was able to wear a jacket off the rack with no alterations needed, and the seamstress was still there to hem/cuff his pants – they did that while we waited. They had shoes in his size too. I wasn’t planning on that expense right before Christmas but I did want him to look nice and now he’ll be set for awhile for anything else he may need to dress up for. I hope he does well!

I just wanted to share a few pictures from the Parent-Child Tennis Tournament this weekend. I’ll post a stamping project later….

Team Davis

ready position.....

look at that form?

keep your eye on the ball
They played 5 matches and were pretty consistent with wins of 4-3 (they played a total of 7 games per match). Except the very first one they lost 1-6 – not sure what happened with that one. I think they ended up third in their division. Greg was great and made sure each of the kids on the opposing teams had fun (even if that meant he lost a game or missed a point). I think he took it too easy on that first team though. Anyway they had fun and that was what was important. The tournament was a fundraiser for the Etowah High School tennis team. And it was a beautiful day for tennis.

Nov 14, 2009 | Big Shot, Designer Series Paper, family |
This was a card that I made at the stamp class I attended at Christina Crawford’s house when I went to Virginia. This is a quick fall card using the stamp set Falling Leaves in the Stampin’ Up! 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog.
The Designer Series paper is called Autumn Traditions. The colors are Elegant Eggplant, More Mustard, Always Artichoke and we used Dusty Durango. The background is the Woodgrain stamp but you could also use the Big Shot and add the wood grain texture using the Texture Plates Kit #4.
Saturday is a busy day – Greg & Ryan are playing in a Parent/Child Tennis Tournament in the morning. It is a fund raiser for the High School Tennis team. I can’t wait to watch and see how they play together. I’ll be taking my camera. Kyle is going to the county Science Olympiad competition. He has been working on his projects all night – why he waits until the night before – I just don’t know. He did the same thing last year. In any case I hope his team does well. Greg is playing golf in the afternoon. Tyler has a driving lesson in the afternoon through the driving school where he took his Driver’s Ed class this summer. They don’t include Driver’s Ed in our high schools like they did when I was in school. Ryan has a soccer game in the evening. And I am going to a group meeting at my uplines house. I’m sure I missed something – but any way it will be a busy day.
The football team lost so football season has come to an end. Now concert season begins (actually they already started on their music a couple of weeks ago).
It’s a busy time but someone has to do it. Be grateful for what you have. I’ll be back tomorrow. I have projects to share from my Big Shot class that I had on Friday. It was lots of fun.

This is not a stamping related post but a proud mom post. While I was out of town the High School had their Homecoming Parade, Football game and dance. My oldest, Kyle, has not been interested in the Homecoming festivities or dance and has yet to ask a girl out on a date – he will be 18 soon. So not only do I have a house full of boys up until now none of them have brought home a girl for a date either. But this week – while I was away – that changed. Not for Kyle, but for Tyler my 16 year old. He went to the Homecoming dance with a girl – not only that but she came over and ate dinner at our house on Thursday night (grandma came over to cook). And I missed it all – can you believe it – finally another girl in the house and I am on my girls visit. Anyway – it was a successful event and here are a few pictures of Tyler and Haley that Greg took for me.

Tyler went with Haley and three of her friends to dinner before the dance.
I’m catching up on all of my email and snail mail while I was away. I had 4 Stampin’ Up! boxes delivered today – so I’m going through those orders.
Scrapbook class is THIS Wednesday – a week early!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a stamping project.
Have a great day!
