Nov 22, 2009 | Christmas, Stampin' Up! Events, SU Ribbon |

My Holiday Card Class was a big hit this year. I’ll be sharing the cards we made over the next several days. This first card was one that we made at the Stampin’ Up! convention this summer. It uses the Tree Trimmings stamp set and the Sweet Season stamp set.
Stampin’ Up! supplies:
- Kraft card stock
- Very Vanilla card stock
- Garden Green classic ink
- Chocolate Chip classic ink
- Real Red classic ink
- Red Polka Dot ribbon
- Clear Rhinestone brads
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Very Vanilla envelope
On a family note…. Kyle heard from Ga Tech and he has been deferred for now. They want to see fall grades and what he has been doing this semester. So we’ll send all that in after Christmas. Darn I was hoping he would get it early. I’m not sure what else they want to see he has good grades, high test scores, etc. I guess he isn’t well-rounded in that he is all academics and nothing else – no sports, no community service, who knows….he’ll have to work on that.
Enjoy your day!

I was able to get the Stampin’ Up! Pop-Up Tree Bigz die for only $10! You can too with a $250 workshop (individual or group of orders). You will need to email it to me rather than order online because online orders aren’t eligible. This Hostess Promotion ends Nov. 30th – so gather some orders from your friends or gather an order for yourself (Christmas is right around the corner!). Anyway I have been playing with this die and once you see how to put the tree together it gets easier and faster each time – it is one of those things where the first time you do it you might need some time but once you “get it” then you “get it!”.
We made these as part of my Big Shot class – everyone made a Garden Green Pop-Up Tree and then we decorated them using the Tree Decorations Sizzlits Die. I created a cutting guide so you know how to cut the card stock to make your tree – one 12″ x 12″ piece of card stock is what you need to create one pop-up tree.
First cut a 12″ x 6″ piece and run it through the die – cutting the large slotted piece, the large notched piece, one medium, one small and the base piece. Then you need three 4″ x 4″ pieces of card stock to cut three more of the medium tree shapes. Then you need three 2″ x 3″ pieces to cut three more of the small notched shapes. There are several demos who have created videos and the creator of the die itself also has a video on how to assemble the tree – I’ll try to find some of those links and add them to this post later. There are instructions with the die also. And probably everyone does it a little bit differently too.
These are the trees we made for the class. Using the sizzlet die cut 2 of each star and those get sandwiched at the top. I put the star with the short notch on first – setting it down into the notched part of the tree. Then add the start with the long notch in the opposite direction. The tip of the tree pieces are sandwiched between each of the two stars. The other little ornaments, bulbs, and dots were cut in various colors and glued to the tree. I tried two different approaches with the tree. The one on the right I used gold cord and poked a hole in the top of each ornament with my paper piercer and strung them on the gold cord and then wound it around the tree. I went back and glued down some of those ornaments to help hold it in place. The tree on the left I tried something different – I just glued all the decorations on and the I took the gold cord and pulled it through all the slots around the tree. It is a little harder to see in this picture – I’ll try to take another one later. I think I liked this better in the end and it was easier.
And then I did one more thing – I used the Snowfall Printed Window Sheets to make a tree – this one looks so pretty – but I need to buy more window sheets so I can make more. The window sheets work great for this die because they are flexible so the tabs pop right back into place once you connect the pieces. I’m going to use some of these for my table decorations.
I’ve had fun playing with this die. Another thing you can do is save the piece that you cut out and use it as a stencil – this works great with the window sheet also because you can sponge your ink and then white the template clean and save it. Oh you know what would be pretty is to use the shimmer paint and the stencil to create a tree. Hmmm, something else I’ll have to try.
Have a great day!
Thanks for stoppping by my Stamping Place!

Nov 19, 2009 | Big Shot, Christmas, class, Designer Series Paper, Holiday Mini Catalog 2009 |
This is one of the cards that we made last week at my Holiday Big Shot class. The top panel of the card is embossed using the Stapmin’ Up! exclusive Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder from the Holiday Mini Catalog. In my class photo you couldn’t really see the embossing but on this close-up photo you can. The Designer Series paper is the Autumn Meadows paper from the Holiday mini – aren’t the blues and browns just gorgeous for a winter card!
I loved the end result of this with the softness of the Very Vanilla. I did notice though that I didn’t finish watercoloring the card – oops. I forgot to do her sweater and to add some color to his pants. I guess I got distracted and thought I was done. But you get the idea – the colors are Taken with Teal, Really Rust, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa and I used some Creamy Carmel too. I stamped the skaters with Black StazOn ink and used my Aqua-painter to watercolor with my classic inks.
The greeting is from the stamp set Many Merry Messages. It was one of the sets I selected for Free for winning the Stampin’ Up! Art Contest. The full stamp says “Warmest greetings of the season and every good wish for the coming year.” I stamped that on the inside of my card. To get only the “Warmest greetings” on the front I stamped on scratch paper and punched out with the Word Window punch – but in order to not get the next word ‘of’ in there you have to punch it so the right side lines up on “greetings”. But then it is off-center inside the word window which I didn’t like. To fix that take it and slide it back in the punch on the left side and punch again just to the side of “Warmest” – it gives you a shorter word window. I took that and layered it on the Modern Label.
I hope you like it!
I had a fun class this morning – the repeat of my Holiday Card Class – I’ll be posting those cards over the next week or so. I’m off to run some errands now.
Happy Stampin’!

Nov 16, 2009 | Baroque Motifs, Big Shot, Christmas, Contest Winner, Embossing, Stamper's Club |
This is the best project! So much fun to make and they will be awesome gifts for almost anyone. I have been wanting to make the tile coasters with the tumbled tiles for awhile now. I made them a couple of years ago using StazOn ink and Stampin’ Pastels but I’ve seen other people making them with craft ink. I had planned on the tiles being one of the projects for my Stamper’s Club this time since we were working on gift giving ideas. In the Simply Holidays class that Heather Summers had she showed us a tumbled tile project that included a box to hold the tiles – it was perfect! I made sure I had Craft Ink and Clear Embossing Powder and I went and bought the tiles and was ready to roll. I decided to use the Dasher stamp set on the tiles and was very happy with how they turned out.

Stampin’ Up! supplies include:
– Dasher stamp set
– Tree Trimmings stamp set
– Baroque Motifs stamp set
– Warm Words stamp set
– Winter Post stamp set (for the tag)
– Craft ink in Chocolate Chip, Old Olive and Real Red
– Clear Embossing Powder
– Chocolate Chip card stock for the box
– Kraft card stock for the tag
– Old Olive or Chocolate Chip 1-1/4″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon
– Big Shot and Stampin’ Up! Two Tags die
– Red hemp cord (retired SU product)
And non-SU are the Tumbled Tiles and the felt tabs for the bottom of the tiles.
I made up about 4 more sets the weekend after we had our club meeting and I do plan to make some more to have for gifts this Holiday season.
UPDATE: I have been getting some questions on these so here is an explanation of how they were made.
I stamped the images with Craft ink and then covered them with Clear Embossing Powder. Since I was making a bunch I put them all on a cookie sheet (lined with parchment paper) and put them in the oven – I think each oven varies so you may need to test the temp and time for yours. I started at 300 degrees and it was taking a very long time so I increased the temp to 350. It took about 8 minutes for each batch of tiles – I have large cookie sheets so I think I had at least 8 or 10 tiles on it. You do want them all to lie flat on the tray – I did one batch where I had one leaning up on the edge and it took much longer to heat the embossing powder. You can see the powder change from powdery to a shiny finish. If you leave them too long they start to bubble so you do need to keep an eye on them. Then I took them out of the oven and I had a large towel doubled on my counter – I used a spatula to take them off the tray and place on the towel to cool – they will be HOT – don’t touch them! After they cool completely add the little felt pads to the bottom so they don’t scratch the table when you use them. I bought my tumbled tiles at Home Depot and they were about $5 for a box of 9.
Happy Stampin’!

Nov 8, 2009 | Big Shot, Christmas, Holiday Mini Catalog 2009, Punch Art, Stampin' Up! Events |
This is the cutest little reindeer swap that I got from Rhea Anderson at the Chattanooga Regional. She was a new friend that I met there – it was her first Stampin’ Up! event and she was so excited. This is a little pouch that folds over – on the inside is a slot cut with the modern label punch that she had a piece of candy stuck inside. She used some ribbon to make a handle so it is like a mini little purse.
The punch art reindeer is the cutest. He has a red shiny nose – use crystal effects to get it to shine. And the whole pouch is covered with the shimmery sparkles from the new Shimmer Paint in the Holiday mini. I don’t think it really shows in person but it does in real life. It is just covered in shimmer!
Can you guess how the antlers were created? It is one of our Big Shot Dies – it is the Stampin’ Up! Tulipe Bigz die – she just cut a piece off the die cut image and used it for the antlers – very clever and looks perfect don’t you think?
Thanks Rhea for sharing your creativity with me at the regional and joining us at our table – we enjoyed the day with you!
If you missed my Holiday Card class the other week – you are in luck, I am going to have one more class on Thursday, November 19th at 10:00 AM only (not night class – sorry). I’ll add it to my website calendar and be sending out an email to my email list. This coming Friday I’m having a Holiday BIG SHOT class! We will be making projects using the Big Shot – it should be lots of fun – an email will be coming out for that too.
I had a busy weekend – it was Wendy’s Gift Giving Extravaganza weekend – Wendy is my upline and each year she creates about a dozen projects and opens her house up for all day Friday and Saturday for everyone to come make gifts for the holidays. I hope one year to have something similar but for now I just attend hers. Everyone chooses the projects they want to make and I made three different ones this year. So Friday morning/afternoon I was stamping at Wendy’s house. Then Friday night I had my Stamper’s Club meeting – it was a lot of fun and we made some great projects there including a gift idea which I’ll be sharing later this week. Saturday morning I took Ryan to his soccer game and then went back to Wendy’s house in the afternoon. The best part about going to Wendy’s for this event is that her husband cooks for us! Home made soups and rolls, deserts and more – the food is great – I’m not sure I can get Greg to do that for me. Today I’ve been working on the school years scrapbook pages and tonight we went to dinner with Greg’s brother and mom and just got back. It feels like its after 9 but it was only 7 when we got home. The time change has it dark so early now.
Enjoy what’s left of the day!
Oh – one more thing – someone asked me a question about one of the projects I posted recently and I tried to email a reply but it came back with a bad email. So can you send me the question again with a different email. I forgot which project so if I didn’t reply to you then email me again. Thanks.
