Halloween Tall Boxes

Look at these cute Halloween boxes!

I have been struggling with what to do with the paper in the Wicked Cool Specialty Designer Series paper that has the large patterns on only part of the page.  Besides using the full sheet on a scrapbook page you lose the look of the large pattern if you cut it into small pieces.  I didn’t want to do that so I hadn’t used this fun paper.  The bats are flocked so you can feel them!

Sandy Hancock shared this tall box idea and when I was preparing for my Stamper’s Club last week I decided to make these tall boxes.  Originally I was going to use one of the floral papers because that was what was on the sample I saw – but then I decided I wanted to make a Halloween project – it is October you know.

Then I had a light bulb moment – the large prints could “wrap” around the box so that you could see it all the way around.  And look how good it turned out!

Everyone had a different piece of paper out of the pack – another design that wrapped around is the one that says SPOOKY and also the Spider web.  I took a picture after everyone got theirs finished so you could see the variety in the boxes.

The lids are made from the Scallop Square die for the Big Shot.  First we cut the square and then we embossed it with the Spider Web embossing folder.  It turned out to be a fun lid for the box.

The ribbon is the wide striped ribbon – actually cut in half so it frays which adds to the spookiness – I saw that idea on another blog and have been using it for lots of my Halloween projects.

So what do you do with this tall box – well it will hold a bottle of tall soap from Bath & Body Works.  And they have Halloween soap – so now you have the perfect hostess gift for a Halloween Party!  How fun would that be?

Or you could package up some cookies in a tall stack – wrap them up and slide them inside the box.  Or just fill it with candy!

Just change the colors and the papers for any other occasion or party.  I hope you like these as much as I did!

NOTES ADDED: I have had lots of requests for the measurements – they came from Sandy who got them from another demonstrator.  You could adjust the size to your needs though.  The card stock is 10-1/2″ x 10″.  Then score at 2-1/2″, 5″, 7-1/2″, and 10″.  Score across the bottom at 2-1/4″ – cut to make your flaps and glue the bottom.

UDI – Color Challenge 5

Welcome to week 5 of the weekly Color Challenge over at the Utah Diva’s International Blog.  Gretchen picked some bright spring colors this week.  At least I think they are very spring like.  I always start by pulling out the colors for the color challenge and putting those pieces of card stock on my craft table.  I had them out while I worked on other projects.  I didn’t have anything in mind so I just wanted to look at them for awhile.

I was working on another project with the Just Believe stamp set and the Butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.   I decided the colors for the color challenge could be flowers or butterflies so I started rolling around different ideas in my head.  And this is what I came up with.

I pulled out my Stampin’ Pastels – I have the new box with all the new colors in it and I haven’t used them yet.  I stamped the large floral image from the Just Believe stamp set in VersaMark ink and then used the Stampin’ Pastels to color the image.  This technique is called “Poppin’ Pastels”.  I use qtips to add the color and it sticks to where you have the VersaMark ink making the image “pop”.

Then I cut butterflies with the Big Shot and the Beautiful Wings embosslit die.  I added those scattered around the flowers.  And then I added the little pearls to some of them.

The last thing I did was add some sparkle to the whole card.  You can’t really see it in the picture I took of the whole card.  So I took a close up while I held it up in the sunlight so you can see the fine sparkle that is all over the card.  I hope you can see it – it really sparkles.  I used an empty Stampin’ Mist bottle that I cleaned – I put some rubbing alcohol in it and mixed in some Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  Shake it up and it sprays out a fine shimmery mist over your card.    I did do this inside my Color Catcher so I won’t shimmer my craft table!

Now it is your turn to play with these colors – then go to the UDI blog and add your creation to the linky section.  I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I will email Bingo cards for Round 5 to all of you and the first Bingo piece will be called on Tuesday 10/12.  Group 6 is now full and I just opened a 7th group.

Here are the rules for playing Monika’s Blog Bingo (I reserve the right to adjust the game if necessary):

First since I plan to mail a prize to the winner you need to live in the US or have APO address(sorry if you don’t but the prizes are SU product in most cases).

Second: I created 16 cards so I’m going to have 16 people play in each round and I hope to do multiple rounds.

Third: You need to email me at [email protected] with Monika’s Blog Bingo in the subject line and tell me you want to play.  I need your name and your mailing address (so if you win I can send you a prize).

Fourth: I will email you an image of your Bingo card – each card is unique and I will have them numbered so I know which one you have.

Fifth: After I have all 16 players I will post a Bingo Piece each day on my blog – so you have to keep coming back – it will likely be at the end of my regular post for the day – and if I don’t have a regular post it will just be by itself.

Sixth: I will post Bingo Pieces until someone has Bingo – you must have 5 in a row – across, down, diagonal – just like normal bingo and once you have Bingo You have to email me that you have – send the email to [email protected] – subject I have Bingo!.  I will check your card against the pieces that have been played to make sure you have Bingo.  And if per chance there is more than one on the same piece, I will pick the winner by the time stamp on the email – first one wins after verifying the Bingos.

Then I’ll mail the winner a prize!

A couple more things on how I am playing this game:  Only one group will play at a time.  If you are playing in a current group you cannot sign up for any other groups.  Once your group is finished and if you did not win you can sign up for another group and play again.

I hope you’ll play along with me!

Group 4: Winner Cinthia from MI

Monika’s Blog Bingo – Round 4 Winner

And we have another Blog Bingo winner!

It is Cinthia from MI.  Congratulations Cinthia!  I’ll be sending you your prize in the mail!

Here are her messages to me the past couple of days:

“Hi Monika,
You’ve been asking if anyone is getting close. I have two possibilities of 4 (actually have had that for a couple of days), but so far nothing. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get the 5th one. I keep dreading every morning that someone else will post that they have bingo. I guess that’s part of the game. 🙂 Thanks for letting me play.
Maybe I’ll be the one e-mailing you tomorrow. 🙂
Cinthia”

and then today she sent this:

I have Bingo!!!!

How exciting to be the winner!!

I’ll get the next group – Group 5 –  ready and send cards out on Monday 10/11 with the new game starting on Tuesday – 10/12.  That will be Group 5 and I’ll send your cards to you in an email.  Thanks for playing!

Button Box

I’m still looking for a Bingo winner for this round – is anyone close??

I don’t think I shared the prize from the last round.  Here it is!

I took an empty Stampin’ Up! button container and peeled off the labels.  If they don’t come off easily use a heat tool to heat the label for a second and try again.  Then I punched a circle to fit on the top and stamped on it.

I filled the container with an assortment of the Corduroy Buttons and Brads that Stampin’ Up! used to sell.  They are all retired now but you can find some of them in the Clearance Rack – go to my website and click the SHOP NOW button – then look at the Clearance Rack section.  Lots of great deals are in there right now but they are selling out fast so don’t delay.

I haven’t decided yet on my prize for the round we are playing right now.  So who know what it might be……

Are you ready to play?

It’s BINGO TIME!  We are playing Round 4 of Monika’s Blog Bingo.  I’m currently taking names for Round 6 – I only have a couple of spots left.   See this POST for more details on how to join, how to play and the Round 1, 2, and 3 winners.

Here is piece #12  –the words hand crafted  from the Charming stamp set (stamped in Pear Pizzazz).

Longfellows Regional Swaps

Today I have two of my card swaps that I took to the Baltimore Regional.  These both use the Level 2 Stampin’ Up! Hostess set called Longfellows.

I got this set because I thought the animals were fun and different from anything else that I had.  But once I had it here at home I couldn’t figure out exactly what to do with these long fellows!

This design works well and I plan to make cards with the rest of the gang.  I used the dog in my pets class (and the cat).  And here is my turtle version.  The Old Olive Designer Paper is from the Plate Date paper pack.

I made a new version of the cat card using Cajun Craze as my main color.  The Designer paper on this one is the Wicked Fun specialty paper.  This one is fun because the black circles are flocked so they have texture.

The animals are stamped with Jet Black StazOn Ink and then water colored with an aquapainter and classic ink.

Now I need to do the whale, the elephant and the alligator and I’ll have a complete set.

My 12 weeks of Christmas Newsletter went out earlier this week.  I sent out week 1 on Wednesday and got it out to most of the people that signed up on Thursday.  I’m going to finish sending week 1 to those that signed up on Thursday.  The next one will go out next week Wednesday.

Monika’s Blog Bingo continues – I heard several people at the regional tell me how much fun they thought it was.  I’m glad everyone thinks so!  So let’s play….

It’s BINGO TIME!  We are playing Round 4 of Monika’s Blog Bingo.  I’m currently taking names for Round 6 – I only have a couple of spots left.   See this POST for more details on how to join, how to play and the Round 1, 2, and 3 winners.  Is anyone getting close yet?
