May Ribbon Share is Ready

The May Ribbon Share is ready and here is the cute little container I made to hold everyone’s ribbon.

may-ribbon-share

I’ve seen this little holder idea in many places.  It uses the Big Shot Box #2 die cut – you need two boxes.  Don’t fold down the lids instead glue them together back to back.  I cut off the little tabs from either side of the box – other people have glued them down inside – but I didn’t want to waste the adhesive since it wasn’t a necessary piece of the project.  The lids then become a handle – I punched a large oval – first in one then glued them together with sticky strip and then through the other.  Tie ribbon through the handle.  (That is the part that took me the longest – I’m great with the knots but trying to tie a bow is just not easy for me – I think I took 4 or 5 tries at each one before it looked decent – and some I still didn’t really like).  It ends up looking like a small drink holder.  I wrapped the two boxes with a 1-1/2″ piece of Designer Series Paper.  Added a little accent using the Oval All stamp set and scallop oval punch.  All the ribbon is tucked in to the two sides of the holder – tied with hemp and a tag identifying the ribbon.

I’m hoping to get some teacher gifts made this afternoon – considering it is the last day of school tomorrow – I’m kind of down to the wire on that one – I found an easy project (I hope) and I’ll share that with you tomorrow assuming I get them done.

Have a great day and Happy Stampin’!

Father’s Day card

I thought I posted this card already – but couldn’t find it on my blog – but I finally figured it out – I posted the information for this one on my Stampin’ Up! website.  This was the other card that we made at my class this month.  So if you want the details for it go visit my website – www.monika.stampinup.net – I really like this card but it was not my original idea, it was an idea I had saved while searching around on various blogs and websites or it might have been in a magazine.  I added the textured panel and if I remember I used different colors than the original card that I saw.  I think the actual layout could be great for many things – birthday, teens, boys – just change the colors as needed and the words to match the occasion.  How about a graduation card in the school colors and replace a button element with one that looks like a cap.

celebrate-fatherI have several ideas for Father’s Day cards ready to go and I’ll have to decide which one to use for my Father and then the boys can pick what they want to give to Greg for Father’s Day.  I guess it will be here soon as June is right around the corner.

I’m excited for June to get here because we (Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators) get to see the new Stampin’ Up! catalog!  I’ll be ordering mine on June 1st and waiting patiently (well maybe not so patiently) for it to get here.  And if you want to know what is in it – well you will have to come see me in June because I can’t post any information about it until July 1st.  I’ll also be taking pre-orders for the new catalog  – I’ll have more information about that in my customer newsletter for June.   So if you want a peek in June when I have my catalog make sure you come to a class!

Two more days of school left – well really 1 and a half – since they are all done by 10:30 am on Friday.

I should make that card into a Celebrate Summer card – then I could send it in for the Late Night Stampers challenge for this week.

I have been working last night and part of tonight on the ribbon share.  I’ll have it all done tomorrow.  It is taking me longer to put the little packages together than I expected but they sure are cute.   I’ll post that tomorrow.

Good Night!

Graduation Cap Money Holder

I came up with a new idea over the weekend – probably someone else already thought of this too but I have not seen this anywhere yet.  What I did have was a tiny graduation cap that someone made to hold a very small piece of candy – like one small mint would fit inside and it was designed like a small jewelry box where you lift off the lid.

Well I thought what if I took the new Matchbox Die and used that to create a graduation cap – but the Matchbox is a rectangle but I cut the top to be a square.  grad-cap You need a 12″ x 12″ piece of Basic Black card stock to cut your matchbox die and the a 3″ x 3″ piece of Basic Black card stock for the top.  You will need some sticky strip and a black brad from the Vintage set.   Then a tassel for the top.  Slide a check or some cash inside the drawer part.  Add a tag.  This was super quick.

UPDATE: Several people have asked about the tassel – this one I already had.  I found them online at www.craftsetc.com (this is the Hobby Lobby online craft store) but they are currently out of stock (at least the black ones are other colors may  not be).  They are Tiny Tassels and are 1-1/4″.  I also have black crochet thread to make my own in the meantime.

grad-cap-open And there is a trick to cutting the 12×12 cardstock so that you can get two sets of pieces for the Matchbox die from one sheet.  This idea was shared with me by a friend at the retreat and she found it on the internet on another demonstrators website.  I don’t know who originally came up with the idea but it is a brilliant one.  UPDATE: The person that came up with the cutting template is Lisa Freeman.

Use a piece of the cardboard backer from a package of Designer Series Paper – it is 12″ x 12″.  Create a template by measuring 5-1/2″ from each side and drawing a line to the center.  Once you have all four sides marked you end up with a small square in the middle – cut this out and throw it away.  Now on your card stock lay down your template and trace out the small square – this will help you cut your card stock.  Line up each side a 5-1/2″ and cut down to the square.  Turn and repeat for all four sides – you end up with four pieces that are 5-1/2″ x 6-1/2″.  Use two of these pieces on your Matchbox die to cut the base of the box and the cover plus the three tags.  Here is a picture of the template:matchbox-die-template

The Matchbox Die is longer than 12″ so if you just cut a 6″ x 12″ piece to cover the whole thing – it won’t fit!

It is raining – again – it has rained almost every day for a long time – so much that we are no longer in our drought – that has lasted for several years.  Lake Lanier where my parents live was at an all time low last year and I can’t remember exactly but something like 14 feet low with boat ramps and docks out of the water and on dry land – it was bad.  And now – as of this weekend it was only 5 feet below full summer pool!  And with all the rain we had the last couple of days it is probably less than that now.  If you live on the lake that is big.

Anyway have a great week – it is FINALS week, the LAST week of school for us.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you are having a wonderful Mother’s Day!

I wanted to share the projects from the Mini Mother’s Day class I had last week.  Everyone had a great time and said I needed to add more last minute classes!  I just knew I hadn’t had a class with anything Mother’s Day, not that you couldn’t use almost anything we make as a Mother’s Day card and gift, but I wanted to do something specific for Mother’s Day.  NOTE: to my mom – don’t read or look any further until I see you or it won’t be a surprise.

I saw the book mark idea last year at convention – that was at the end of July and have wanted to make them for a class ever since then.  I ordered the hardware pieces and have just been waiting for the right class to add the book mark too.  I finally just decided to do the book mark for Mother’s Day and build a class around it instead.  So I announced the class with plans to make the book mark, a Mother’s Day card – I have been seeing the flower pot cards and thought it would be perfect, and then a box of some type to hold the book mark for gift giving.  Then the next day I went to the retreat and by the time I came home I had everything figured out.  One of the projects that Wendy shared was the cutest little purse made with the Big Shot and several dies.  I changed the colors and designer paper and ta-da the box for my bookmark was born.  Michelle shared her version of a flower pot card – that was just what I needed for my class.  I took her idea, changed the colors and actually made it smaller because I needed it to fit in the medium envelopes – I didn’t have any large envelopes here and wanted a matching envelope for the class.  The ideas and the retreat were perfect timing and my class projects were figured out and ready in time for class Wed. night.

So here is what everyone made –

Pound Puppy Carrier

puppy-carrier-openHere is another project from our weekend retreat.  This one was designed by Jill who ended up not able to attend, but puppy-carriersent her project anyway.  It would make a cute party favor for a birthday party.  It is a litttle pound puppy carrier.  The idea came from a pattern for a mailbox.  You could also use the same idea as a bug catcher – use some mesh on it.  Here are the basic instructions:

  1. Add texture to the body (5″ x 7″ piece of card stock) of the carrier using the Big Shot Die-cut machine and texture plates.  Then using an ink pad rub over the texture to further define it.
  2. Score a 4″ x 5″ piece of card stock at 1/2″ from each side to create the base.
  3. Apply sticky strip to both sides of the base – the 1/2″ pieces – and attach to the body of the carrier.
  4. Cut out the ends from a 3 x 3-1/2″ piece of card stock and score each 1/2″ from the bottom.  Use sticky strip to adhere to the base piece.
  5. Use the 1-1/4″ circle punch to punch a window in the door – this is the front.
  6. Use a Crop-A-Dile to add to Jumbo Brads to the top of the carrier – and tie a 12″ piece of striped ribbon through to create the handle.
  7. Punch out two word window punches from scrap card stock and adhere with sticky strip to the back of the carrier at approximately 10 and 2 to hold the back shut.
  8. Punch a small hole in the front door and in the front top of the carrier for the 12″ piece of taffeta ribbon that holds the door shut.
  9. Add stitching with the white gel pen if desired.
  10. The small puppy fits inside and peeks out the window.

Isn’t it cute!

We have a soccer tournament this weekend and it is Mother’s Day.  I am hoping to have time to post both days this weekend – but if I don’t that just means I was busy.  Tonight is Stamper’s Club and I’m finishing up for that.  Actually one of the cards we are making tonight – I was inspired by the colors on this pet carrier for the colors on my card.  Sahara Sand, Kiwi Kiss and Pacific Point.  Isn’t this puppy the perfect Pacific Point color!

Have fun and Happy Mother’s Day!

Blog Tour 4 – STOP 16 – “Sense of Time”

blog-tour

Welcome to the Mini Occasions Blog Tour!

You have just hopped on Tour 4 at Stop #16.  Enjoy viewing my samples using the “Sense of Time” stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  I have been working on these samples over the last week or so and I’m pleased with the results.  At the end of my post you will be linked to the next stop on the tour – you will be headed to Canada!

sense-of-time-suitcaseMy first sample is a little suitcase – this set reminds me of something old fashioned and since I had travel on my mind I came up with this cute little suitcase idea. This would make a cute little treat box to give someone getting ready to go on a trip or use it for Father’s Day.

Supplies:

  • Sense of Time stamp set
  • Chocolate Chip card stock
  • Very Vanilla card stock
  • Chocolate Chip Classic ink
  • Big Shot Die-Cut Machine
  • Bigz XL Box #2 die
  • Ticket Corner punch
  • Paper Piercer
  • 5/8″ Chocolate Chip Grosgrain ribbon
  • 5/16″ Jumbo Brads – Very Vanilla
  • Stampin’ Sponge
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Sticky Strip

sense-of-time-tinThis next project is one that I made for the Principal at my sons school.  He is leaving the school this year to go to one of the new schools in the county and the PTA wanted to give him a going away gift.   I made a similar gift for the High School Band seniors last year and thought this would work for this as well.  It is a scrapbook tin.  Inside the tin is an accordion fold scrapbook containing pictures from various events at the school.  When you open the tin the accordion album lifts out and has pictures on both sides.  Inside the lid is a place for the PTA officers to write a personal note to the Principal.  I hope it is a gift that he will enjoy.  You could create a tin like this to give as a father’s day gift or to hold memories from a trip.  Since it is a tin you can add 3-d items that you might not be able to include in a traditional scrapbook.

sense-of-time-cardMy last project is a card I made last night.  I knew there was something I wanted to do with this clock and it just wasn’t coming to my mind so I had been hesitating on creating my last sample.  Finally last night as I played around with different ideas and it came to me – CRACKED GLASS TECHNIQUE!  It was the perfect thing to do with this stamp set – yet another way to give it an old-fashioned look.

sense-of-time-card-detail

I used the new Circle Scissor Plus to cut the circles out for the project and for the tin.  It takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can go crazy creating all different sized circles.

Here is a close up so you can see the detail of the cracked glass technique on the clock image.  It is much easier to see in person than it is on these photos.

  • Sense of Time stamp set
  • Kiwi Kiss card stock
