Football & Fingers

Today is Wednesday and usually I have a scrapbook class on the last Wednesday of the month.  With the lack of internet last week I didn’t get out a class reminder and once I got home and looked at my calendar I decided it would be best not to have the class today.  So instead I am posting a scrapbook layout today with supplies and measurements so you can create a similar version for yourself at home.

These are pictures that I took in March when it was Spring break for the colleges.  Kyle was on spring break and so was my nephew Nicholas.  The boys hung out for a few days and one afternoon decided to throw the football in the backyard.  Tyler joined them.

I was glad to see them outside playing instead of inside on the computer.  But the fun time didn’t last long.  Nicholas threw the football and Tyler and Kyle were trying to catch it.  Tyler got in front and went for the ball which hit the end of his little finger at just the wrong angle.  See the last picture where Tyler is grabbing his hand.  That was it for the football that day.  Since his finger didn’t improve I ended up taking him to the doctor the next day and then they sent us to xrays.  Yep the result was a broken finger!

Now for some information about this layout.  I used a football from an old retired stamp set but you could use another ball or another image for whatever you need.

The base of the layout is Night of Navy 12″ x 12″.  Both backgrounds are stamped with the football in Night of Navy ink.  I used strips of the Travel Journal Designer Series paper from the Summer Mini catalog – 1″ and 1/2″ strips of different patterns and then I trimmed them to different lengths so they could be staggered.

The journaling was typed on the computer and printed on Whisper White card stock.  I stamped a football in Sahara Sand ink where the word “football” was in the journaling.  The title is cut from Sahara Sand card stock using the Big Shot and the GoGo Boots Alphabet dies.

I also cut arrows and brackets using the Big Shot – the brackets are from the Hearts & Brackets die and the curvy arrows are from the Curves Ahead Sizzlit die.  The large straight arrow if from the My Way punch.  The footballs are stamped on Whisper White card stock with Night of Navy ink and cut out.

I put all the footballs and the brackets on Stampin’ Dimensionals to lift them off the page.  “Game On” is from the Sporting stamp set and punched out with the 1-1/4″ square punch.  A piece of Pumpkin Pie card stock was punched with the 1-3/8″ square punch to create a layer.  This is also on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

My pictures are 3″ wide and 4-1/2″ tall on the left page and 3″ wide and 5″ tall on the right page.  I put a Pumpkin Pie mat on the one where Tyler is holding his finger after the ball hit him.  I just never got a picture of his finger in the custom made splint that he had.

I hope you like the page – have fun making your own.  Thanks for stopping by today!

April Wow Scrapbook Kit

The Wow Scrapbook kit will include step-by-step instructions to create each layout (three 2-page 12″ x 12″ layouts) including all measurements, color photographs, and WOW tips.  Full kits ordered by the 30th of the month will include a paper & embellishment pack.

There are three 2-page 12×12 layouts – one is “Play Ball” which features the Just Basketball set but could be changed to use one of the other sets.  Another is an “Easter Basket” page that features a woven basket and the last one is a “Snow Day” layout  which features the bleaching technique (we had snow days this year in Georgia so we had to make one!).

We also have an ordering options for demos that don’t want the supplies – order the whole monthly kit or just individual layouts.  Click here to go to the WOW Scrapbook Kits Blog.

Sports Scrapbook Pages

Well I had planned to post this yesterday but the rest of the day got away from me.  Sorry about that…

I actually made these scrapbook pages last month – in September for my scrapbook class.   The two-page 12×12 layout was easy to adapt to any sport.  I made the Soccer layout for my class sample and then created the Tennis layout during the class.  At the class the ladies did a variety including baseball/softball layouts and football/cheer layout.   If you didn’t want sports at all you could have used  Circle Circus or other circles or flowers.  The layout itself was an old one from a magazine that has been in my stack of layouts to work with.  I also created the same layout using My Digital Studio – I was able to play around with the photos in the layout  before printing them.  My Digital Studio has the Sporting stamp set with all the words but not the individual Just sports sets.  But you could do a hybrid version and print the My Digital Studio version and then add the stamped sports images.  One cool thing about the My Digital Studio that didn’t really work with the traditional scrapbook page was putting the words directly on top of the picture.  In my traditional layout I cut my picture shorter and put the GO TEAM underneath it.    The tennis layout doesn’t have pictures on it yet – I’ll be adding those as soon as I get them printed.

Supplies used include:

– Sporting stamp set

– Just Soccer stamp set

– My Way Punch

– Circle Punches – several sizes

– Spiral Punch

– Big Shot & GoGo Boots Alphabet die

– Night of Navy, Real Red, Summer Sun card stock and ink

The one thing I couldn’t do in My Digital Studio was the Spiral Punch – I’ll have to look at that more and see if I can find that – if may have been there and I missed it.  So you see that here in my traditional layout.

The Tennis version uses the same supplies except the Just Tennis stamp set for all the accent pieces – here it is without pictures on it.

For the Tennis layout I may add some White Gel Pen lines by the tennis balls at the bottom of the page – I wanted them to look like they were bouncing and right now they look kind of out of place so I think I’ll add that when I put my pictures on.

So then the My Digital Studio version is done with the Soccer pictures – I’ll show you the Left page – it just has white circles where the soccer balls should have been.  I didn’t actually print the My Digital Studio version as a 12 x 12 but I was able to export it to a jpg file so I could share it here and I printed it just on paper to take to my craft room as my sample.  So the My Digital Studio software can be used for a design tool – where you can play around with elements and photos without cutting card stock or printing photos until you know what size and where you want everything.

Soccer - My Digital Studio

I didn’t finish adding all the stamped words in there but wanted to have an idea for comparison. The font is different since the Big Shot dies aren’t actually in My Digital Studio – you can add text by using the fonts that you have loaded on your computer and you can change them to any of the Stampin’ Up! colors.

So what do you think?  How do they compare?

I have this month’s scrapbook pages ready to share later this week so come back again.

It’s a rainy day (again) and a good day to stay inside and stamp (no one really wants to clean house so go stamp instead).

Father’s Day card

I thought I posted this card already – but couldn’t find it on my blog – but I finally figured it out – I posted the information for this one on my Stampin’ Up! website.  This was the other card that we made at my class this month.  So if you want the details for it go visit my website – www.monika.stampinup.net – I really like this card but it was not my original idea, it was an idea I had saved while searching around on various blogs and websites or it might have been in a magazine.  I added the textured panel and if I remember I used different colors than the original card that I saw.  I think the actual layout could be great for many things – birthday, teens, boys – just change the colors as needed and the words to match the occasion.  How about a graduation card in the school colors and replace a button element with one that looks like a cap.

celebrate-fatherI have several ideas for Father’s Day cards ready to go and I’ll have to decide which one to use for my Father and then the boys can pick what they want to give to Greg for Father’s Day.  I guess it will be here soon as June is right around the corner.

I’m excited for June to get here because we (Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators) get to see the new Stampin’ Up! catalog!  I’ll be ordering mine on June 1st and waiting patiently (well maybe not so patiently) for it to get here.  And if you want to know what is in it – well you will have to come see me in June because I can’t post any information about it until July 1st.  I’ll also be taking pre-orders for the new catalog  – I’ll have more information about that in my customer newsletter for June.   So if you want a peek in June when I have my catalog make sure you come to a class!

Two more days of school left – well really 1 and a half – since they are all done by 10:30 am on Friday.

I should make that card into a Celebrate Summer card – then I could send it in for the Late Night Stampers challenge for this week.

I have been working last night and part of tonight on the ribbon share.  I’ll have it all done tomorrow.  It is taking me longer to put the little packages together than I expected but they sure are cute.   I’ll post that tomorrow.

Good Night!

Soccer Scrapbook

We have been a soccer family for years – Kyle started playing at 5 years old, then Tyler and then Ryan – for a few soccer3years all three played on three different teams and Greg was coaching either one or two of their teams.  Eventually Tyler and Kyle moved on to other interests.  Greg coached up until this last year and now only Ryan is still playing.  This last week and nextsoccer1 week are heavy soccer weeks – with lots of rain this season we have missed many games and as we approach the end of the season they are trying to get all of them played.  Last weekend Ryan played in 3 games.  They had a game tonight and the boys played a great game and won 4-0 against ones of the teams they lost to last weekend.  There is another game on Sunday, and then one Tuesday night and Wednesday night too.  With all this soccer it reminded me of a 6×6 scrapbook I made for Ryan a few seasons ago.  I intend to scrapbook some more of his soccer pictures and also want to make some 12×12 pages too.  I’m not sure I ever shared the book with anyone so I thought I would show you a few pages from it tonight.

Have a great weekend!  Tomorrow is a tennis match day.  I need to make some scrapbook pages with the Just Tennis stamp set too.  Maybe one day I’ll catch up on all the scrapbooking I want to do – but probably not.

Quick note on the birds – I finally saw the chickadee babies today – both mom and dad were out of the house and I got a quick peek at a pile of babies.  The robin babies are getting bigger – they seem to know when food is on the way and stick up their heads and open their beaks until mom or dad comes by to drop in some food.  Today I got to watch while they were fed a worm!  The bluebirds are growing too – I can hear them now from the porch – so I know when mom or dad is there feeding them – they make quite a bit of noise when food is coming.  I’m going to check my dates tomorrow because as the date approaches for them to fledge I don’t want to open the box anymore so they don’t come out early.  Hopefully I’ll be able to see the day that they leave and get some pictures of them as the babies learn to fly.
