Happy Birthday Ryan!

Ryan - 13 years old

Yesterday was Ryan’s 13th birthday!

Yep – I have THREE teenage boys!  Oh my!

ryan-cakeI made Ryan a Tennis Racket Cake and Tennis Ball cupcakes. Actually, my mom helped me with the cake.  She put on the frosting and did the writing.   He took about 2 dozen cupcakes to tennis camp.  And then my parents and Greg’s mom came for dinner and the cake.

I made Ryan a birthday card using the new Stampin’ Up! Pop-Up LOOK HERE die for the Big Shot.  The die creates the inside part of the card that is a pop-up with arrows and a gift card holder – all the arrows point to the gift card – as in “look here there is a gift card for you”.

You could just put a piece of card stock with a message right there too or a picture.  You could cut off the arrows and use them on cards or scrapbook pages.  This should be a fun die to play with.  Look-Here-Birthday

Here are pictures of the outside of the card and the inside.  The colors I used are Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White.

The stamp set is Party Hearty and I added orange beads from the Bead Duos to the cupcake for the sprinkles.  The way I did this was put a small puddle of Crystal Effects on a piece of scratch paper.  Use a straight pin or toothpick and pick up a tiny bit of Crystal Effects and put it on the stamped image where you want the bead.  I used a straight pin to grab a bead from the container and then placed it in the Crystal Effects on the card.  This was I don’t get too much Crystal Effects in places where I don’t want it.  You need a very small amount and it will hold the beads tight.  I used markers to ink the candle – Yep – the new In-Colors come in a set of markers this year!  A very popular request from both demonstrators and customers alike.  The arrow on the front is one of the punch outs from the Look Here die.  The actual cut of the die is on the inside of the card.look-here-birthday-inside

I did find a matching gift card.  Well actually I had my die-cut piece done in the Pumpkin Pie.  So when I looked for a gift card I found one with orange in it.  Then came home to make the card and Crushed Curry was the other color in the gift card so it worked out perfect.  It was a quick card that I made in just a few minutes.  I could have dressed it up but decided to keep it pretty simple.

The Happy Birthday stamp is one of the Under $10 stamps that were in the last catalog.  Most of these are still available to order they just aren’t shown in the new catalog.  I have been using this one  a lot.

Ryan is headed to California tomorrow with Greg’s mom.  Thank you to anyone that offered suggestions on places he should visit.  He has a long list. I have to finish getting him packed.

Have a great day!

Stamping 411 Challenge

I mentioned the other day that I created a card for the Stamping 411 Blog challenge last week and missed the entry cutoff.  So I took the same materials for that card and turned it into a card using this weeks challenge.  I thought I would share this with you because I thought it was interesting to see how the same set of materials can make two different cards.

So here was the sketch for last week and the card I created:

stamp411-ssc107Flight-of-the-Butterfly Supplies include – Flight of the Butterfly stamp set; Butterfly Punch; Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper; Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry, and Melon Mambo card stock and classic ink; Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Ribbon; Big Shot die-cut machine and Perfect Details Texture Plate.

It doesn’t quite look like the sketch since my image was bigger and I moved it higher because I wanted it over my designer paper – the only dimensions I changed from my first card was cutting the rectangles slightly smaller so that I had room for the knot on the left side.

This was my swap card at our STARZ group meeting on Saturday night and I’ll be bringing some of these to convention to swap also.  If you are a demo and will be at convention I hope you will swap with me and say “Hi” – I would love to meet you.

Today is Ryan’s 13th birthday!  Yes, I officially have 3 teenage boys!  What is a mom to do……

Well I have to go frost cupcakes for him to take to tennis camp.  And then get ready for his birthday dinner and make him a card – which I will post later.  His birthday balloon is already in his room.  This is a tradition I have been doing for 17 years now – from Kyle’s first birthday. When they wake up on the morning of their birthday they have a special balloon in their room.  A few times I have had to run out late at night to go get one.  When they were little it was from the “balloon fairy” – but I’m quite sure they figured out it was really from mom.  The trick will be next year when Kyle goes off to college – how to get one into his dorm room – I guess I’ll have to get to know his room mate and have him do it for me.

Have a great day!

Colored Star Brads

The other day I posted a Red, White and Blue card and mentioned that I had colored the star brad but it wasn’t in the picture. star-brad

I smooshed the brad into my Ruby Red craft ink pad (I would have used a Real Red craft ink pad but I don’t have one so I used what I had).  Then took a paper towel and wiped it back off including around the edges.  So that left just the ink in grooves.

RWB-pinwheelHere is the original card.  The star really popped once it was covered in the ink.

That’s all for today – short and quick.

If you are a demonstrator make sure you look at the Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator website today – lots of exciting announcements today!

Flight of the Butterfly

Today is Sunday and I will shortly be headed to a birthday party!  I’m so excited because it is a little girls birthday party – I haven’t been to one of those in a long time – and I’m teaching them how to make a paper bag scrapbook and the little top note purse.  I’ll post pictures of our projets later in the week.

I was very excited to see that we had a new Butterfly Punch in the catalog.  It coordinates with the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set so I decided to use these for one of the Stamper’s Club projects on Friday night.  I was a bit dissapointed after I started playing because the punch is designed to fit the butterfly wings – but once you add the body stamp (the 2-step stampin’) and punch it punches off the atenna – unless you don’t center the butterfly in the punch – but who wants that.  I’m going to write Stampin’ Up! about it – I need to take some pictures so that I can show them exactly what I am talking about.  For this card though I added cross-stitch thread to the centers to create the body and antenna.

butterfly-cardI used the new Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series paper and three of the new In-colors – Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Melon Mango.  The card front was also embossed with the new Perfect Details Texture plate.

My  card sketch came from the Stamping411 blog – but it was last weeks sketch and I finish my card too late to put it in for the challenge.  So yesterday the new sketch was posted and I decided to take the same pieces and convert the card to the new sketch for this week.  This ended up being my swap for our STARZ meeting last night.  I haven’t taken a picture yet, but will do that later toady – so I’ll post that version of this card (and add it to the 411 blog) tomorrow.  I’m planning to use it also as one of my convention swaps since I had extra’s left from the meeting.

I also made a few extra of the Red, White and Blue card from yesterday and I’ll take those to convention too.  Now to plan the rest and start making them.   Convention is less than a month away and I’m so excited – I can’t wait to get there.  I’m rooming with Sue, Michele and Diane again.  We had the best time last year and this year will be even better!

Have a great weekend.
