Aug 23, 2009 | Baroque Motifs, Circle Circus, Circle Scissor Plus, class, Demonstrator, Designer Series Paper, Flight of the Butterfly, Great Friend, In Colors, Masking, Stampin' Up! Events, Stamps, SU Ribbon, Techniques, Thoughts & Prayers |
At my class this month I decided to use cards that I received at convention – as I looked through them all I ended up pulling several that were my favorite and realized they represented most of the In-Colors so that ended up being my “theme” for the class. I chose cards that featured the In-Colors. We made 5 cards total (one card featured 2 of the In-Colors) and stamped matching envelopes for each card. I generally kept the card designs exactly the same as the original creator except one that I didn’t have the stamp set for – so I replaced it with one I did have that I thought would give the same results. Lisa came to class and added her own little twist to each card and this afternoon she signed up as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – whoo hoo! Welcome Lisa to my PAWS team.
Most of the cards I used came from the Shoebox swap that I participated in – some of them I know who designed them and others I don’t. So if someone knows the original creator I’ll add their name here – just leave me a comment.
This first card features the Rich Razzleberry In-Color. The stamp set is Thoughts & Prayers and also Flight of the Butterfly. The Designer Series Paper is the Cottage Wall Paper. The original swap from convention used the Old Olive Patterns Designer Series Paper.
The stamp was inked up using the Stampin’ & Write Markers – Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry (yeah for In-Color Markers!) , and Pale Plum. The Pale Plum card stock was punched with the Eyelet Border Punch.
A little paper clip was tied with a piece of Rich Razzleberry Polka-Dot Ribbon.
The original card had a smaller “Thinking of You” stamped and punched with the Large Oval punch and then mounted on the Scallop Oval punched piece of Rich Razzleberry. I used the saying from the Thoughts & Prayers set which was larger – so mine is stamped and punched with the Scallop Oval and then mounted on a Wide Oval punched piece of Rich Razzleberry. Either one looked great.
The envelope was stamped to match the card.
I don’t know who designed this one – it was from the Shoebox Swap at the Shilo Hotel on Tuesday night before convention.
The second card features the Melon Mambo In-Color. The stamp sets I used was Baroque Motifs and Sincere Salutations.
This card was also from the Shoebox Swap and was designed by Janice Felty. Her original design used the large flower image from the Razzle Dazzle stamp set. Since I didn’t have that set I replaced it with one that I did have.
The Whisper White layer is punched on one side with the scallop edge punch. Then we positioned it on the front of the card and punched through the Whisper White and Melon Mambo card stock with the Scallop Oval punch to create a window.
Using a piece of Window Sheet and White StazOn ink the greeting from Sincere Salutations was stamped and then sandwiched between the two pieces of cardstock to make the window.
The Melon Mambo Polka Dot ribbon was tied in a knot and then wrapped around the front of the card and secured on the inside. The envelope was stamped to match the card.
This third card features Bermuda Bay In-Color. The stamp set is Great Friend that originally debuted in the Occasions Mini Catalog and is available in the new catalog too.
The card base on this one is Whisper White and then we cut three panels to adhere to the front – Bermuda Bay, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive.
The butterfly is stamped on a Whisper White circle and mounted on a Chocolate Chip circle. For my class the circles were cut with the Circle Scissor Plus cutting system. But the original card used the Big Shot and the Circles #2 Originals Die. Since I don’t have that die we cut our circles.
Three silver brads were added up in the top right corner.
This card was designed by Michele Schmidt for the Shoebox Swap. Michele was also one of my roommates at convention.
This next card features the Dusty Durango In-Color. The stamp set is a Hostess Level 2 set called Asian Artistry. This card uses a masking technique to create the circle which was inked using a Brayer and the Dusty Durango ink.
The bird image was then stamped with Black StazOn ink and the right edge of the circle was sponged with Soft Suede ink to create the shadow.
Some highlights were added with the White Gel Pen to the leaves. We also used an Aquapainter to “paint” the bird – this causes some of the ink to lighten up.
The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and punched with the Word Window punch and layered on some Basic Black card stock that was punched with the Modern Label punch.
I do not know who designed this card – so if you know please leave me a comment and I’ll add it here. This was also a card we made at the Shoebox swap on Tuesday night. I told you I got some great cards that night….
And the last card features the Soft Suede and Crushed Curry In-Colors. This is the Circle Circus stamp set and I also used Teeny Tiny Wishes in my class. The Designer Series Paper is from the Razzleberry Lemonade set.
The images were stamped on Very Vanilla card stock and punched out with various circle punches. There is a small Crushed Curry flower that was punched using the Trio Flower punch and has a Clear Rhinestone Brad in the center.
Soft Suede Polka Dot ribbon was wrapped around the Designer Paper before it was adhered to the front of the card.
The greeting was punched with the Modern Label punch. We stamped a matching envelope.
This card was designed by Elizabeth Martinez and we made this at the STARZ meeting on Wednesday night of Convention.
Thanks to all these ladies for sharing their card designs at convention.
If you live near Woodstock, Georgia I hope you will join me for my next class. Check my calendar to see what’s coming up.
Happy Stampin’!

Aug 21, 2009 | Big Shot, In Colors, SU Ribbon |
The Ribbon Shares are all ready. If you had one getting mailed to you – it is in the mail today. The others are here at my house. A few are missing Rich Razzleberry ribbon which has been on backorder since late July. The ribbon finally shipped this week so I will have it soon.
I made a box out of Soft Suede card stock and a window sheet. The flower is one of the Big Shot embosslit flowers – Simple Flower. And the leaves are the Little Leaves Sizzlet. All the ribbon was wrapped around my fingers and then tied with white crochet thread. I added a little tag punched with the scallop oval. Some white gel pen accents finished everything off. And a clear rhinestone brad is in the center of the flower.
Enjoy.
Thanks for visiting today!
Tomorrrow I’ll post the cards from todays class.

Aug 20, 2009 | Big Shot, Circle Circus, Designer Series Paper, Embellishments, In Colors, Stampin' Up! Events, SU Ribbon |
At convention I attended a group meeting for the STARZ group – that includes everyone in Wendy Randall’s downline. Wendy, Sue and I traveled from Georgia to attend convention. Most of the others in Wendy’s downline were from California and a few from Texas and Arizona. I enjoyed visiting with all of these girls because I don’t normally see them the rest of the year. At our meeting Wendy did an awesome presentation on Taking Better pictures and Scrapbooking. We saw a few demos and then there were 5 projects for us to make – each one was designed by a different person. I presented my Tile Card – you can click HERE to see it.

Michelle's Circle Circus card
There were two other cards that used the Circle Circus stamp set – one designed by Michele Scileppi – the colors were Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry and Old Olive. And she used the Big Shot dies – Daisy #2 and the Top Note for the embellishments on the card. Her example also had a tag hanging off the hemp cord but I left that off of mine.

Elizabeth's Circle Circus card
Another Circle Circus card was designed by Elizabeth Martinez. The colors she used were Soft Suede and Crushed Curry. We used a variety of circle punches to punch out the different images in the stamp set. The Crushed Curry print from the Razzleberry Lemonade paper was added across the font of the card. Then the Soft Suede ribbon and a brad finished off the card. We will be making this card in my class on Friday.

Wendy's Mini Scrapbook
Wendy presented a mini scrapbook made with the new Thoroughly Modern file folders and stored inside one of the new gusseted envelopes. The colors on the folders are Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede, Rose Red and Sahara Sand. We decorated it using the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set and the new Butterfly punch. Ribbon accents were added. One of the inside pages was folded over to create a pocket.

STARZ meeting - Fancy Favor Box w/Love Notes
And one of the California girls (sorry I’m not sure who) showed us a fancy favor box filled with love notes. The colors were Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White. The Razzleberry Lemonade paper was used to add the accents on the box and mini cards. Some jumbo eyelets and ribbon were used to create the handle. The box is cut using the new Fancy Favor Box die for the Big Shot.
After everyone shared their project we all worked on them the rest of the night. It was a fun meeting.

Look who came to visit today – a family of deer – mom and two babies.
They came from behind the house across the street. And this baby started to come up our front hill towards the front door – but Aspen was having an absolute fit over those deer. That was why I looked outside in the first place to see what he was so worked up about. He did the same thing a few days ago and I saw the one deer that day but she was gone before I could get the camera out. Today I was faster – or they were slower.
The other baby came part way over and then they decided to go back – I guess mom called them – not sure how deer communicate but they turned around and started to follow her. They went across to the street to the next house. The babies munched on some plants while mom watched and listened. I guess they have such big ears so they can hear everything. Then they went back down the hill between the houses.
I wonder if they’ll be back again tomorrow.

I need to get out my Forest Friends stamp set and make something with it now.
BTW – Paper shares are ready and I’m finishing the ribbon shares tonight.
My next class is on Friday – one at 10:00 am and again at 7:00 pm. If you live near Woodstock, Georgia you are welcome to come to my class – demos included. This week we will be making a variety of cards from swaps I received a convention. Each of the new In-Colors will be represented on at least one of the cards.
Come join me for a fun stamping class in my Craft Room.

Aug 18, 2009 | Rub-Ons, Stampin' Up! Events |
After awhile you might get tired of all the things about convention – but there is so much to share I hope you will keep visiting my blog.
The last two years at convention my roommates and I have done a “Roommate Shoebox Swap” – this is where each of us brings a project to share with the other three in our room. It is actually a nice night that we have together in our room and when we are done we just go to bed – unlike the other swaps and meetings where we have to walk back to our hotel late at night. This year we decided to share 3-D projects rather than cards since we were already getting a lot of cards from our other swaps – those are yet to come because I have to take pictures of them still before I can post them on my blog.
So here is the first one – shared by Sue – she brought black wood picture frames and a variety of Rub-Ons for us to choose from to decorate our frames. It was funny because we each showed our project and Sue went last and had hers out on one of the beds and we all just sat on the bed and started looking through the rub-ons and working on our frames I think we forgot about the other projects for a few minutes. But then we divided up so each of us worked on something different and we rotated.
We decided the white rub-ons looked the best on the black frames. Sue tried the colored ones and they didn’t look as sharp against the black background. I think the colored ones would look great on a white wood frame. So top left was the one Michele made, top right is the one Sue made, bottom left is mine and bottom right is Diane’s.
I am planning to print a picture of the four us from convention to put in mine. I think all the rub-ons we ended up using are now retired. But you could use any that you have on had. If you look at mine I actually took one of the flower elements and put it over the edge of the frame and down onto the glass. I’m planning to have a mat around my picture so the flower will just be on the edge of the mat. Once I get it in I’ll post the finished one.
Here are some tips on using Stampin’ Up! Rub-Ons:
- Can be used on unique, textured surfaces that are difficult to stamp on, such as glass,
tin, and plastic - Can be used on nonporous surfaces, such as glass, photos, clipboards, candles, and ribbon
- Need a card in a hurry? Apply a Rub-On to a prescored card, such as Elegant Notes or
Pendant Notes, and you’ll be surprised how quick you’re finished! - For best results, cut out your Rub-On image and remove it from the backing sheet. Lay the
image on a flat surface, and rub it lightly with your finger to hold it in place. Then firmly rub
the image with the wooden stick (included with the Rub-Ons) to transfer it to your project. - You’ll know the image has transferred completely when the image becomes lighter on the
transfer sheet. Pull up slowly on the transfer sheet, being careful not to slide it. If the image
hasn’t transferred completely, simply lay the sheet back down and try again.
- You can apply Rub-Ons over stamped images. However, make sure that the image has been
stamped in Craft ink; Rub-Ons don’t adhere well to Classic ink. - You can remove Rub-Ons from most surfaces with our Adhesive Remover.
- Make sure you store your Rub-Ons with the paper backing or your images will come off
where you don’t want them to! - If you need to clean the item the Rub-On is adhered to, wipe it gently with a damp cloth.
- If you want to transfer Rub-On images to a small embellishment such as a button, you may
want to transfer the image to the embellishment before you adhere the embellishment to
your project. Stick the embellishment to a smooth surface, such as a cellophane bag, using
SNAIL Adhesive. Trim the image from the Rub-On sheet and lay it over your embellishment.
Rub your finger over the image to help hold it in place, then transfer the image completely
using the wooden stick. Peel the embellishment off the bag and adhere it to your project.
I hope you’ll try using your Rub-ons on a variety of surfaces. Look HERE to see where I used the rub-ons a couple of months ago. I’ve also heard that some people put them on their nails and then apply a clear top coat! I haven’t tried that one yet – but I have been thinking about it.
Another idea – Use them to decorate school supplies – I bought a folder to use for convention to hold all of my important papers – and the night before I left I decided to decorate it with Rub-Ons – so that is what I carried out with me.
So where are you going to put your rub-ons?
Smiles!!
