Aug 9, 2012 | Big Shot, Cards, Create with Connie & Mary, Designer Series Paper, My Digital Studio, Thank You |
Yep it’s time for a new challenge at Create with Connie & Mary. This week we have a sketch challenge for you. The great thing about a sketch is you could apply it to more than just cards – it could be a scrapbook page, or the front of a box or journal. When I see a sketch I always think about the different things I could do with it. This week I was actually working on some Thank you notes to send out to customers and friends for helping me with my June goal to get 50 orders of $50 and earn the Stampin’ Up! Getaway trip. Well we did it and I owe not only thank yous, but gift certificates to a class and invitations to a celebration party. I wanted to include all of this in one package. I have the gift certificates made (I used My Digital Studio for that) and the party invitations but wanted a cute little thank you to include as well. So I thought I could use the sketch for my design for the thank you. Here is the card I ended up with –

And here is what the sketch looked like

So this is actually a 4×4 card. But what I’m going to do is seal the bottom and left and it will become a pouch with a side opening. I have long envelopes for these to go in. Then in the side I will insert the class gift certificate and the party invitation. Here is what it looks like as a pouch with the other things inside –

All the supplies are listed below – come play along with us this week and lets see what you can do with this sketch – surprise me. I can’t wait to see what you create. Visit
Create with Connie & Mary and submit your creation for this weeks challenge – each week 3 top creations are selected. Each challenge is open for a week. And then a new challenge will be issued.

Aug 8, 2012 | Big Shot, In Colors |
I don’t think I have shared this little project on my blog yet. It has been a while since I made it. Back in June probably.

I cut a piece of Gumball Green card stock with the Petite Pocket Pouch die and then ran it through the Big Shot again with the Fancy Fan embossing folder. The front is decorated with the flower image from Button Buddies. It is stamped and cut out three times using both the of the new In-Colors – Raspberry Ripple and Primrose Petals. In the center is a Dahlia and also some of the new striped ribbon.
Inside the pouch is a little piece of white card stock that has the flower stamped on the bottom (sorry I didn’t get a picture of it all the way out of the pouch). The top has the little grommet pieces from the die and then tied with Baker’s Twine. I used the Petite Pairs stamp set to add the “thanks”. You can write your note on the white card.
These would be cute on a place setting at a dinner table when you are having a celebration. I have another idea to share later that uses the same pouch – I still need to get it photographed though.
I have made a change to the comments section of my posts. Now you (or I) can reply to comments that are left. So if you have a question – leave a comment and I’ll reply there with the answer. Then everyone can see it – because if one person has a question probably someone else has the same one.
Have a nice day!

Aug 7, 2012 | Create with Connie & Mary, Tutorial |
Gosh what happened to Monday (and Saturday and Sunday)? I was busy with family things and the days just quickly disappeared. Kyle and Tyler came home Saturday night from California. Kyle is finished with his summer internship. He came home with a cough and I asked him if he was sick – “no”. How long have you had the cough – “probably a month”. So I made a doctor appointment for Monday and figured he could have walking pneumonia – well yes he does have a mild case. Now he is on meds and has a recheck next week before he heads back to college. See mom’s do know!
So I have had some questions about some of my posts last week and I’ll try to hopefully answer them all –
The ribbon shelves – I got them from Ikea – they are called Ribba picture shelves – for my ribbon wall I used two long ones and one short one. I have some more that I plan to put up over the window to use for display of projects and cards.
The little basket – here is how I made it – start with a piece of card stock 6″ x 6″. First score like a tic tac toe board – so 2″ on all the sides. Now in the 4 corners on opposite sides score every half inch. On the same sides mark the center square in the center to cut a triangle – from the center mark to the inside cross point of the tic tac toe. You are going to cut between the 1/2 inch strips on the corners and cut to create triangles on the two centers (all on the same side – and do two opposite sides). Then you cross over the strips over the triangles and attach with a brad. Add a handle.
Here are some pictures that hopefully clear up the description I just gave.

The basket idea was shared by Fran Kennedy at my demo meeting and she got the idea from another demonstrator. Here is my post for the finished and decorated basket – click here. It was my Create with Connie & Mary project for last weeks Thursday challenge.
You should be able to make a bigger basket by starting with a bigger square.
Where did I stay at convention? I stayed at the Shilo Inn the past few years. But have a reservation next year at the Raddisson – the Shilo was full already.
And in case you are wondering I am going to the Chattanooga Regional in September. Registration is open for demonstrators and guests.
If you have other questions let me know – leave a comment on my post.
