Dec 6, 2013 | Cards, Christmas, Holiday Catalog 2013, Washi Tape |
This card idea came from my friend Linda. She invited me to her house and we made two different cards and I combined the ideas and created this one. Here are the details:
- card base is Chocolate Chip
- Whisper White card layer – add three strips of Washi tape – if you need help getting them lined up straight use the Stampin’ Up! grid paper as a guide. Lay the card stock on the grid paper so it’s straight, then use the lines to put down the washi tape so its straight across

- The Greeting is stamped at the base in Chocolate Chip ink – it comes from the Warmth & Wonder Hostess set in the Holiday catalog.
- Stamp the reindeer (from the same set) on Whisper White card stock and punch out with the 1-3/4″ circle punch.
- Punch out a 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle from Cherry Cobbler card stock.
- Layer the circle and scallop circle together. Pierce two holes – one on either side of the reindeer’s neck. Pull a piece of Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine through and tie in a knot. Adhere with a Stampin’ Dimensional over the Washi Tape.
It’s a fun quick card. I hope you like it. Washi tape is so easy to use. This is the Season of Style Washi tape by the way.

Dec 5, 2013 | Wildlife |
As we finished eating our Thanksgiving meal we had a visitor come to the backyard.
There was a hawk sitting on the fence rail. And he was there for a long time. He was over by the driveway so I grabbed my camera and snuck out the front door and quietly went around the house to where he was.
I carefully approached him while I took pictures until we just had one car between us. I guess I was a bit to close and he hopped from the rail up to the post at the corner.

Then he got comfortable again lifting up one leg and tucking it under his body. He sat there for some time and finally flew up into one of the trees. I did get a lot of great pictures.

I’m pretty sure this is a Cooper’s Hawk. And I believe that he (I guess it could be a she) has been in this area for several years. I see him periodically but never has he stayed so long – usually he just passing through our yard.

I hope you enjoy these photos.

Dec 3, 2013 | Best Of 25 Years, Clearance Rack, My Digital Studio, SU Updates, Tell Me Tuesday, Valentine's Day, Weekly Deals |
Now that Thanksgiving is over we can focus full time on Christmas! What are you working on right now? I was able to complete a My Digital Studio project for the boys (I’ll have to share it later) and a card design and get them sent to the printer on the last day of the Print sale. I’m working on some tags and treats for my class this month and preparing for Stamp Club this week – if it works out I have a cute snowman project for them this week. I have a couple of other projects on my table to try to get done. And then of course there is the decorating of the house and shopping to be done. Plus my team meeting this weekend.
Oh and late last night in the last few minutes of Cyber Monday I ordered a small sewing machine – it was kind of a quick decision to get that particular one. But I’ve been wanting to get one for quite some time. There seems to be a trend to sew on cards and scrapbook pages and I’ve been wanting to do that. I think this machine will be perfect for that – at least I hope so!
Time to stop rambling – here are the updates for this week:

Dec 2, 2013 | My Digital Studio, Scrapbook Pages |
A couple of times each month we have a My Digital Studio Digi Crop. The last time we met was the week before Thanksgiving and we shared a trick with everyone an easy way to use a sketch that you might find somewhere as a jump start for your My Digital Studio layout. We used a sketch from the MDS Monday Sketch blog and I decided to play along and submit my page. I just realized that my page was selected as one of the TOP Picks! How fun is that!

so do you want to know the trick?
- Find a sketch that you want to use online somewhere – save it to your computer as a jpg file.
- open your My Digital Studio project and go to a blank page
- add a photo to the page – and choose the jpg file that you saved of the sketch
- this creates a “map” for you to follow
- add your photo boxes and page layers on top of the “map”
- when you are done delete the photo from the back
I turned the sketch for my page – so I added it as a photo box and then rotated it – then I placed my photo boxes and the punch for the strip across the page. I deleted the sketch and added my other elements and text. It was a brilliant idea that Cindy had!

Nov 29, 2013 | family, Holiday Catalog 2013, Thanksgiving |
This year was the first time that we hosted Thanksgiving at our house and my first time to cook a turkey! And I’m happy to report that it was all a success and the turkey came out great. There were 15 of us and we all ate really well. The boys took an afternoon trip to the movies and a large number of the adults (not me) took an afternoon nap. I thought they were watching the football game. I wanted to share some pictures including some of my decorations and Thanksgiving treats.
I made Thanksgiving Blessing Mix and bagged it up for all the kids. Well mostly they aren’t kids any more but that’s what I call them anyway.
- I used the Gusseted Cello bags – they had them on the Stampin’ Up! Clearance Rack – filled them with the mix.
- Tied the bags shut with some of the wide striped ribbon in Chocolate Chip – it is retired now but we have lots of other ribbon you could use. The Burlap ribbon would have been perfect too – it’s in the Holiday catalog right now!
- The tag is from the Tags 4 You stamp set – I stamped in Chocolate Chip ink on Very Vanilla card stock and punched out with the Label Bracket Punch (you can get these as a bundle). I sponged some Tangerine Tango and Summer Starfruit ink over the image to give it some fall color. And attached them to the ribbon with a small safety pin. We have some in the Vintage Trinkets embellishments.

I set two tables and used the Thankful Tablescape kit to make the place settings and the candle wraps in the Dining room. Here are a few more pictures for you…
This is my first turkey that I have ever cooked. I bought a 20 pound turkey and did some research on the internet on how to cook it. I decided to put in in a brine and then roasted it – first in a really hot oven to seal the skin and then turned the oven down and used the probe thermometer that came with my oven (first time to do that too). It was all done at just the time I had planned – which I wasn’t sure that was going to happen but it did.
I tried a new salad recipe and a new green bean recipe (instead of the traditional green bean casserole). Both were a big hit so I need to add those to my recipe box.

I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving. I was very grateful to have our families with us – parents, siblings, nieces & nephews – only a few people were missing.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!
