So Shelli Challenge Winner

What a way to start the day…..  I was up early getting the boys out the door to school and checked my email.   I had an email that said this:

Congratulations! Shelli has chosen you as one of the winners for her SoShelli.com Happy Birthday Creative Challenge! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us!

I had to read it more than once and then see who sent it because I couldn’t believe it.  WOW!  I was excited!  What an honor to have Shelli personally choose one of my projects – I just can’t believe it!  kaleidoscope-card

Click HERE to visit Shelli’s blog for the announcement.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement I get from everyone!

Several people have asked which stamp set I selected as my free set – I decided to get For All You Do – I saw so many beautiful projects made with the set while I was at convention that I fell in love with it.

Now that I am back from convention I am working on my August Class Kit to Go so it should be ready soon.

I had two orders come yesterday with my ribbon for the ribbon share and DSP for the paper share so I’ll be getting that ready too.

Have a wonderful rest of the day!

Convention Swap – Tile Card (from Blog Tour)

This card is the one I featured on the Royal Blog Tour and also used as my project for the STARZ meeting at convention.  We held our meeting on Wed. night and there were 5 of us that presented projects for everyone to make.  The Tile Card was mine and here are the details on making this card:

tile-cardSupplies:

  • Stamp Sets: Circle Circus, Elegant Thank You
  • Inks: Soft Suede
  • Paper: Soft Suede, More Mustard, Very Vanilla
  • Other:  Paper Cutter with cutting & scoring blade, Soft Suede Polka Dot Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stamp-a-ma-jig.

Instructions:

  1. On 3” x3” piece of Very Vanilla card stock score every 1” in both directions creating a tic-tac-toe board.  Fold on the score line and drag across the Soft Suede ink pad to create the lines.  Also drag the outer edges of the square to add Soft Suede ink.
  2. Use a stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the image from the Circle Circus stamp set using Soft Suede ink inside each of the squares. Also stamp one on scrap piece of Very Vanilla and cut out the inside portion to attach with a Stampin’ Dimensional over the center image.
  3. Adhere the Very Vanilla piece to the More Mustard piece.  Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to add to the front of the Soft Suede card base.  Position towards the top to allow room for the greeting.
  4. Stamp “Thank You” in Soft Suede ink on the bottom of the card.
  5. Tie Soft Suede Polka Dot ribbon around the left edge of the card at the fold and tie in a knot.

Today is Sunday and I am on the plane back from convention.

Hope you have a happy weekend!

Kaleidoscope Card Tutorial

As promised here is my tutorial for the Kaleidoscope card.  The pictures weren’t sticking in the positions that I wanted so I have added captions on them in case they get in a wacky order when they display on your computer.  You can click on the pictures to see a larger version.   At the end is a pdf file which you should be able to download and it might be easier to follow than the actual post on the computer.

This is my Kaleidoscope card made with the Circle Circus stamp set featured in the July 2009 Royal Blog Tour

Basic Supply List:

  • Card stock – Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Ballet Blue, Whisper White
  • Window Sheets – Medium
  • Ribbon – Old Olive wide Grosgrain
  • Punches: 1-3/4” Circle, Word Window
  • Classic Ink – Pumpkin Pie, Ballet Blue, Basic Black
  • VersaMark Ink
  • Black Embossing Powder
  • Stampin’ Write Markers – Pumpkin Pie, Ballet Blue
  • Bead Duos – Blue, Orange
  • Bone Folder
  • Paper Cutter with Scoring Blade
  • Jumbo Brad
  • Circle Circus stamp set including the extra rubber after mounting your stamps
  • Family Phrases stamp set
  • Circle Scissor Plus and Glass Mat
  • Adhesive – Snail, Crystal Effects and Stampin’ Dimensionals

Card Instructions

Steps to complete the shaker box:

  1. Stamp the image in VersaMark ink on Whisper White card stock, cover with black embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  Color image with Stampin’ Write Markers.
  2. Use the left over rubber from the die-cut stamp set.  And cut away the outline of one that fits over your image.  Trim away the corners.  I use my Craft & Rubber scissors.
  3. Remove the backing from the rubber and adhere over your image.  Then peel up the rubber leaving only the gray foam attached to your stamped image.
  4. Add some of the large beads from the Bead Duos to the center of the foam, covering about 1/3 of the image.  I used Orange and Blue Bead Duos.
  5. Cover the foam with a piece of clear Window Sheet.  Trim everything as needed.
  6. To cover the front I cut a circle out of Pumpkin Pie using the Circle Scissor Plus – cut it at 2-3/4”.  Punch a hole in the center with the 1-3/4” circle punch.
  7. Cut a circle out of Ballet Blue using the Circle Scissor Plus – cut it at 2-1/2”.  Punch a hole in the center with the 1-3/4” circle punch.  I stamped on this piece with Ballet Blue ink using the dotted circle image.
  8. Layer the Ballet Blue circle on top of the Pumpkin Pie circle and then attach that to the top of the shaker box over the window sheet covering up the gray foam.

Steps to complete the spinner:

  1. Create the base of the card.  Mine is Old Olive card stock cut at 4-1/4” x 11” and scored at 5-1/2”.  Fold this in half.
  2. Add the front layers to the card.  I have a Pumpkin Pie layer that is 5” x 3-3/4” and a Ballet Blue layer that is 4-3/4” x 3-1/2”.  The Ballet Blue layer is stamped with the dotted circle image in Pumpkin Pie ink.
  3. To the back of the shaker box add a 5/8” Jumbo Brad.  I used a small dab of Crystal Effects so that it would not come off.

    Spinner - Step 3

    Spinner - Step 3

  4. Position the shaker box on the front of the card so that it is near the edge where you can add the punch out to create the notch for spinning it.  Punch a hole for the brad.  And then punch your notch through the layers.
  5. Cut a 3” circle using the Circle Scissor Plus.  I used Pumpkin Pie card stock.  Punch a hole in the center.  Place this on the inside of the card.  Feed the brad on the back of the shaker box through the front of the card and through this circle on the inside of the card.  Flatten out the brad on the inside and then use a piece of plain tape to hold the brad in place on the circle.  If you don’t do this then the card stock will turn around the brad rather than turning the brad which turns the shaker box.  I hope that makes sense.

    Sprinner - Step 5

    Spinner - Step 5

(Excuse the mess in the Step 5 picture, if you don’t pull your tape up multiple time your card stock won’t look like this  – 🙂

Steps to complete the card:

  1. In order to make the inside look nice and cover the workings of the spinner I cut another piece of Old Olive card stock – 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” and punched a notch in it to match.   Adhere this to the inside front of the card making sure your adhesive doesn’t interfere with the circle.
  2. Also punch a notch out of the back of the card.  And I stamped a greeting on the inside.
  3. On the front of the card I tied a piece of Old Olive wide grosgrain ribbon around the left side of the card.  Stamped ‘happy birthday’ on Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the Word Window punched.  I pulled the edges across my Pumpkin Pie ink pad and attached with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the front of the card.

The Royal Blog Tour is over

Hi Everyone!

Wow what a ride!  Did you have a wonderful time exploring all the blogs on the Royal Blog Tour?  I know I did.  I have a whole list of new blogs to visit and ideas to try. I had a record number of visitors and my total visits is now over 20,000!  How exciting is that!

I’d like to thank everyone that came to visit me and for all the wonderful comments.  It was so nice to read them all.  I will be drawing for the Blog Candy Winners later and post that tomorrow.  If you asked me questions I will be working on replies to those also.  Thanks again!

I am working on my post of the Kaleidoscope card tutorial and it will be up later today – it is a long post with lots of pictures so it is taking a bit longer.   For right now I want to show you the card that I created (and then took down because the colors were so wrong) that matched the scrapbook page.  I took a new picture and now it looks like Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Chocolate Chip.  Chocolate Chip is the base of the card which is a little hard to see in the picture.  The Tempting Turquoise layer is on top and scallop punched on one side.  I love these colors together!

circle-circus-birthday

The girls coming to my scrapbook class tonight will be making the scrapbook pages that I showed as part of the tour.  I am finishing up the prep-work for that class.  And still working on my convention swaps.  I’ll be back later with the tutorial for you.  Have a great day!

Royal Blog Tour

I am so excited to welcome you to the ROYAL BLOG TOUR!

I hope you are excited to be here.

I will go back to my regular posting schedule after the tour – this post will be here until the tour is over.

Sit back and relax as you take the tour and see wonderful samples using stamp sets and accessories from the Stampin’ Up! 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog.

On the tour you will visit Princesses from all over showing you different styles of stamping.

Have fun on the tour!

My featured stamp set is the new CIRCLE CIRCUS stamp set!  This set offers circles with all sorts of lively, fresh designs to choose from. Stampin’ Up! had another circle based stamp set that I just loved but it retired a few catalogs ago and I have missed it.  When I saw the Circle Circus set I knew this would fill that void.  Circles are everywhere and so fun to use.  And Stampin’ Up! has plenty of circle punches and the new Circle Scissor Plus that work perfectly with this set.

kaleidoscope-cardMy first project is a card that I made with a kaleidoscope in mind.

You know the little toys we had as kids that you turned and they made pretty colorful designs.

It is a spinner card and when you rotate the wheel the beads spin inside the window.

The colors I used are Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Ballet Blue along with white and black.  These are the large beads from the Bead Duos and I happened to have blue and orange ones so I was pretty much pointed in that color direction.  The main stamp set here is of course the Circle Circus stamp set.  Other sets that I used to make this into a birthday card are the Family Phrases stamp set and on the inside I used the Birthday Wish stamp.

Visit my blog next week to see a tutorial on how to make the window with the beads and the spinner for the card. EDITED TO ADD: Instructions were posted on 7/29/2009.

tile-cardMy second project is another card that is a totally different style of card.  This one has a more elegant look to it and while I used it as a Thank You card I think it could even be a wedding/anniversary type card too.

This is what I call a Tile card because it is supposed to look like tiles.  The colors I used are the new Soft Suede, More Mustard and Very Vanilla.  I added the Soft Suede Polka Dot ribbon which I love.  One side has the polka dots but the other is plain so it is like getting two ribbons for the price of one.  The main stamp set is Circle Circus but I used only one image from the set.  The greeting is the Elegant Thank You stamp.

I will have instructions on creating this card posted after I return from the Stampin’ Up! convention which is Aug. 5 – 8.

My third project is my favorite and I have had such a hard time keeping it under wraps.  I was ready to share as soon as I finished it!

circle-circus-scrapbook-lefIt is a 2-page 12×12 scrapbook layout with the title “Hangin’ Out Together”. circle-circus-scrapbook-rig

While on the last card I used only one image from the Circle Circus stamp set this time I think I used them all!  And lots of circle punches too.

The colors are so fun – Chocolate Chip, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie.  I like layouts with lots of pictures and you could even take the large Old Olive mats and add collages of smaller pictures.  You can use one of the Pumpkin Pie mats as a journaling block too.

The various circles are layered some with and some without Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Some have brads in the centers too – Silver, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise and even a Filgree flower brad.

We will be making this fun layout in my scrapbook class on July 29th.

I have the perfect pictures of this page of my son, Tyler, and my niece, Emily, together on the beach one night just hangin’ out.  I have to get the pictures printed and will post these pages again with pictures later.

And one more card…. I loved the scrapbook page so much I wanted to use the same idea to create a birthday card.  The colors in this picture are off – it is the same color combination that is on the scrapbook page, not sure what happened to my picture this time.  I have decided to remove the picture of the card so I can retake it – it looked worse this morning than I though it did yesterday – totally the wrong colors.  I’ll repost after the tour so come back and visit again or sign up to receive email updates and you will know when I make updates.  Thanks so much.

I hope that you like my samples and that you will bookmark my blog or sign up for email updates (see my side bar) and visit me again.

I’ll be giving away some Blog Candy after the tour is over.  Here are the details:

I will have two Blog Candy prizes – one for blog tour visitors that are Stampin’ Up! customers (and live in the US) and one for Stampin’ Up! demonstrators.
