Quick and Easy Christmas Card

This is a quick and easy Christmas card – or really a card for any occasion.  You need some Designer Paper, a coordinating ribbon, matching card stock and ink, a stamp set with the appropriate greeting and then a set that has something like a swirl or spray of foliage.  Here is what I am talking about –

easy-christmas

For this card I used the Snow Festival Designer Series Paper – the colors in it are Soft Suede (my card base), Cherry Cobbler (mat layer), Gumball Green (ribbon and ink), Whisper White (stamped layer), plus Primrose Petals and Baja Breeze.  Cut a piece of designer paper for the bottom, stamp a greeting and the little spray of leaves on the top, tie the ribbon around.  Add the layer to the front of the card base and ta-da a quick card.

Don’t need a Christmas card – then change the designer paper and the greeting – I made this same card layout with several other papers and color combinations and used it as a birthday and a thank you.  The Just Believe stamp set isn’t Christmas but it worked on this card – but you could look through your stash and see what else you had to add some color right there.  Or if you have a larger/longer greeting you wouldn’t even need anything else stamped on there.  Another thought is to use a punch – a flower or something else that coordinates with the feel of your card.

I originally received a card with this layout as a swap and thought it was so simple and versatile that I have used it several times throughout the last 6 months.  So get busy making some quick last minute Christmas cards.

I ordered cards that I created in My Digital Studio – that will go to our family mostly – it has updates on what the boys have done this year along with photos.  It looks like those will be here at the end of this week so I’ll be getting those in the mail on Saturday (that’s the plan).  I better go buy some more stamps so I can send out hand stamped cards too.

Have a great day!

Fall is Here

Fall is most definitely here!  We have tons of leaves in many colors covering the ground and some still hanging on to the trees.  Last month one of the scrapbook layouts we did in my scrapbook class was a fall layout.

I used the Orchard Harvest Designer Series paper and the Early Espresso Coredinations card stock for the squares along the top and bottom of the layout.  The journaling goes under the title on the left side.  I added some cross stitches in some of the squares – used the piercing template to create the holes in a grid and then stitch with Linen Thread.  The acorns are colored with markers, stamped on Very Vanilla, and then punched out.

I have a couple of kits available for sale too.  All the cut pieces, punched pieces, and die cuts plus ribbon.  The kit does not include stamps, ink, adhesive or stamped images.    Kit price is $10 for local pickup or add shipping if it needs to be shipped to you.

I hope you are enjoying the fall – we had our first fire in our new fire pit the other weekend.  Here is a picture before it got dark.

Tyler did a good job getting the fire started and keeping it going while we enjoyed our evening.  Talk to you later.

Mummy Candy for you

Are you still getting ready for Halloween?  I finally bought a pumpkin yesterday but I haven’t put out any Halloween decorations yet.  But I have been coming up with different Halloween treat ideas and I have another one for you today.  It’s based on a sketch for this weeks Create with Connie & Mary Thursday challenge.

Here is what the sketch looks like –

I guess it looks like it could be a card but it’s not!  It’s actually a slip cover for a box of mummy candy that I found at the store.

It just slips around the box.  I just happened to have a piece of the Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series paper that was exactly the same height as the box of candy.  I wrapped the paper around it and trimmed the extra and glue the ends together to form the slip cover.  “Boooo” is stamped directly on the designer paper.  I cut a strip of Tangerine Tango card stock and embossed it with the square lattice embossing folder – glued it diagonally to the front of the box and trimmed it against the box.  I used a leftover tag from the Googly Treat Kit and stamped it with the mummy image.  I sponged the tag with Crumb Cake to tone down the white since my designer paper had Very Vanilla in it.  I also watercolored the mummy to give him some dimension.  I tied some Basic Black ribbon around the box and through the tag.   Now to decide who will get this mummy treat…..

 Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Stamps:  Googly Ghouls
  • Ink: JetBlack StazOn, Crumb Cake
  • Card Stock: Tangerine Tango
  • Accessories: Big Shot die-cut machine, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Ghoulish Googlies Designer Kit, Stampin’ Sponge, Aqua-painter, Basic Black 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series paper

Visit Create with Connie & Mary and submit your creation for this weeks challenge – each week 3 top creations are selected.  Each challenge is open for a week.   Is this your week to be one of the top picks?  Do you think you can use this sketch for something other than a card?

Retired Items for sale

10/7/2012 UPDATE – I am updating what has sold and what is pending plus adding more items – all the updates can be seen on the page Retired Stamps for Sale – click here.

I am working on pricing and tagging retired items for sale.  I will be taking them all to a consignment sale next week but thought I would go ahead and offer them here on my blog.  If you are interested in any of these items please email me and be prepared to send me payment via PAYPAL (you can send it to my email address through paypal) by Monday night (10/8/2012).  Those that are not local will be asked to send a second payment for the cost of the shipping – I will have to see how much that is based on what you are getting and where you live and if I have a box/envelope that it will fit in or need to purchase something.  I only ship to US addresses so if you don’t live in the US please don’t reply.  I had hoped to have these ready sooner so it wouldn’t be such a short window but I have been very busy and it just didn’t happen.

If you have a specific question about an item please email and I will try to answer.  Most everything is used/opened.  I have many more stamp sets still to add but that may not be until Sunday so I hope to have another blog post on Sunday with those.  This is what I have so far –

Perfectly Preserved

This super cute project was the Make & Take project that Lisa Swantek shared at my PAWS meeting.  It uses the Perfectly Preserved Bundle from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog – which includes the Perfectly Preserved stamp set and the Cannery Set Framelits.  From the main catalog the Bitty Banners Framelits are used to cut the little tag.

There are two jars one on either side of a little box that holds three covered nuggets – That’s the Orchard Harvest Designer Paper on the nuggets and on the lid.  Use the oval punch to get the window in the center of the jar.  Tie the Linen Thread around the tops to hold it all together.

A really cute little treat.  Thank you Lisa for sharing this with us.

Rainbow Smooches

A rainbow card today.  I told you the other day I had lots of rainbow things going on and this was one of them.  This one is slightly different because I used the Summer Smooches Designer Series paper so a couple of the colors in my rainbow changed – O became Tangerine Tango, G is Lucky Limeade and then BI is Island Indigo.

This card idea came from another demonstrator (Colleen Vassos) that won one of the monthly art contests that Stampin’ Up! has.  Each month the winners are published in our demonstrator only magazine called Stampin’ Success.  It’s packed full of ideas and projects and there are ideas and MDS articles as well as business tips for us.  I read it cover to cover every month.

Cut the strips of DSP and attach to a piece of card stock and layer that on the Crumb Cake card base.  I used the paper flowers with a Rich Razzleberry button in the center – tied with some white baker’s twine.  The Teeny Tiny Wishes set adds the greeting that was punched with the Word Window punch.  She sure did create a cute card!

And finally I did record another video today.  I’m going to try to edit so that I can post on Wed but it may be Friday.
