UDI Color Challenge 7

It’s Tuesday and time for another  Utah Diva’s Color Challenge. Here is our inspiration for this week:

Quite a turn around from the last couple of weeks of really bright colors.  I pulled out Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip and Basic Gray and the first thing that jumped into my mind was something masculine.  I have boys that should be easy.  What jumps to mind – the Extreme stamp sets – so I pulled out the two that I have Extreme Elements and Extreme Skateboard.  And here is the result….

It’s quick and easy – I took the stamps from Extreme Elements and put each one with an ink pad and just randomly stamped on the outside of the card and also the inside.  I took a piece of Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the Extreme Skateboard in Basic Gray.  I decided I wanted the look of motion so I stamped multiple times to the left of my main image to give it a look like he was moving through the air.  What do you think?

Then I decided to take the same size piece of card stock in the remaining colors – Basic Gray, Chocolate Chip and Cajun Craze and kind of twist them around behind the image.  Somehow I think it also adds the feeling of movement to the card.    Here is a look at the inside:

I added the quote from Word Play – “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams”.  A good thing to tell a teenager!

That’s my interpretation. Now it is your turn to play with these colors – then go to the UDI blog and add your creation to the linky section.  I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Card stock: Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, Chocolate Chip, Basic Gray, Very Vanilla
  • Ink: Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, Chocolate Chip and Basic Gray

Stampin’ Up! Punches

I’m sure that everyone has noticed the new Punch Style that Stampin’ Up! has switched to.  They are designed to be space-saving with greater cutting precision and leverage.  With the new style some of the punches that we have had in the past have a new name.  And the terminology for large or small punch means something different with this new style.  So I thought I would take the time to explain and to give you the new names of the old punches (I’m still using the old names most of the time – I haven’t really learned the new ones yet).

First of all the new punches come in four sizes – the size Extra-Large, Large, Medium, and Small refer to the body of the punch not the punched image (used to it was the image – like large oval, small oval).

So in this picture I have all four sizes lined up for you to see side by side – the Two-Step Owl is an example of an Extra-Large Punch, the Bitty Bat is an example of a Large Punch, the 3/4″ x 15/16″ Oval (from the Holiday Mini) is an example of a Medium Punch, and the Itty Bitty Punches are considered Small punches.

Then there are Border and Corner punches – they look like this:

The Border punches have the “Wings” on the sides that have a guide to help you line up a row of them.  The Corner punches are designed so you can punch on the corner – you need to hold your paper in the corner guide – or on the edge of the paper – giving a unique punched effect.

So here is a list of the punches with their old names and their new names that had more of a change than just adding the size of the punch to the name :

  • Jumbo Snowflake became Snowflake Extra-Large
  • Scallop Edge became Scallop Edge Border
  • Spiral became Spiral Border
  • Scallop Circle became 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle Extra-Large
  • 3/16″ Corner Rounder became 3/16″ Corner Small
  • Large Star became Star Extra-Large
  • Tag became Extra-Large Tag
  • Small Tag became Large Tag
  • Wide Oval became 2″ x 1-3/8″ Oval Extra-Large
  • Large Oval became 1-3/4″ x 7/8″ Oval Large
  • Small Oval became 1-3/8″ x 5/8″ Oval Large

I hope that is helpful information to you.

So it looks like a handful of people have 4 in row on Bingo so will today be the day that a winner emerges?

Let’s play for today ….

BOO Wall Hanging

This is a fun project that I created for my Halloween class (it was last month).  It is a BOO wall hanging.  The letters are wood cut outs that came from a craft store.  You could do the same thing with chipboard – if you use the dies from the Big Shot – it would be smaller though.

Each of the letters was covered with Craft Ink using a Sponge Dauber in the base color – Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black and Old Olive.  Then I stamped with Craft Ink on each letter using the Wicked Cool stamp set.   Surprisingly the ink did not dry like I thought.  I started by making just one letter and when it wasn’t dry the next day I decided I needed to try something else.  My solution – cover the whole letter with Clear Embossing Powder and heat with the Heat Tool.  Problem solved and now they had a glaze look to them.

Then I decorated each letter with some punched pieces and ribbon.  The ‘B’ uses the Decorative Label Punch, the Bat Punch, the Wide Oval Punch, and the Black Lace Raven ribbon.  The witch boots are stamped and cut out and then I added the Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink to them.

For the first ‘O’ had the Basic Black Wide Grosgrain Striped Ribbon – torn in half so that it frays.  Then for the tag I used the Bat Punch, the Jewelry Tag punch and the Small Oval punch.  All are tied together with Linen Thread and tied to the bow.

Also on the Black ‘O’ I stamped the candelabra’s from the Wicked Cool stamp set and then used the Moonlight Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink on each of the candle flames.  It looks good in person – it gives them a spooky glow.

For the last ‘O’ I used the Decorative Label Punch, the Modern Label punch, the 1″ Circle punch (or it may be the 3/4″ inch – I’m looking at the picture and don’t want to walk upstairs to look at the real thing).  The hat is stamped and cut out.

There are actually two of the decorative label punches – one goes around the back of the letter and then the two are held together with the brads.

My goal was to attach everything to the letters so they couldn’t fall off.  The tag on the ‘B’ is tied on with the lace ribbon, and the first ‘O’ is of course the ribbon tied around.  So for this one I used the punched pieces with the brads.

At the very top I added a bunch of ribbon tied in a knot around the hanger.  It turned out to be a fun Halloween decoration – I have mine hanging in my kitchen.

So how about Bingo – I’m looking for a new winner – is today going to be the day????

Let’s play for today ….
