Cool Kid. AWESOME. amazing SUPERHERO.
Those are some of the stamps in the Cool Kid stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog. I used it this week to make birthday cards for my niece and nephew. I think they are cool kids and this was the perfect stamp set for that. I bought it with the two of them in mind. I used the same basic layout for both cards and the same pack of Designer Series paper – I just focused on different colors and images so that I could create a “boy” version and a “girl” version of the same card.
Here is Ally’s card – I used Melon Mambo (she loves pink) and the cat and kites.

And this one is Noah’s card – no pink on this one and I used the dog with the paper airplanes. His card is actually on a Basic Black card base which you can’t see because I photographed on a black background.

Supplies used for these cards:
- Cool Kid* stamp set, Bring on the Cake stamp set
- Kaleidoscope* Designer Series Paper
- On Film Framelits Dies*
- Girl card: Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo & Whisper White card stock
- Boy card: Basic Black, Crushed Curry & Whisper White card stock
- Girl card: Basic Rhinestone, Regals Designer Buttons
- Boy card: Neutral Candy Dots, Basic Metal Buttons*
- Whisper White Baker’s Twine
- Stampin’ Write Makers: Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, Basic Gray, Smoky Slate
- Jet Black Staz On
- Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo classic ink

I gave Noah his card – he had his 9th birthday – when he opened it – I said “I made that card for you.” – he reply with a big grin – “I knew you were going to make me a card!”

Feb 18, 2014 | My Digital Studio, Paper Pumpkin, Tell Me Tuesday, Weekly Deals |
Finally we have a Tuesday with SUNSHINE! And mild temperatures – hooray! I’m so tired of the cold and ready for spring to be here. The Bluebirds are active in the house again today – maybe they are finishing the nest they started before the snow came. Over the weekend I filled all the feeders and moved a couple of bird houses – they were the ones that no one used last year so I thought I would try a new spot.
Kyle has been gone for a week now. He spent that time setting up his apartment. It’s been a bit of an experience – let’s just say he is learning a lot and getting in quite a bit of walking each day (his car is still here at home waiting to be picked up by the transport service). And today is his first day at work. He got up early to catch the first shuttle in to the office. He is supposed to call tonight to let me know how today went.

Feb 17, 2014 | Birthday, Cards, Sale-A-Bration 2014, Stamper's Club |
I saw this fun card idea using the Tag Topper Punch and couldn’t wait to learn how to make it. I did a little searching on Pinterest and found a video from an Australian Demonstrator. This idea was one that I showed my Stamper’s Club this month and I also used it as a swap for my PAWS Team meeting.
I wanted to use some of the Sale-A-Bration FREE products and decided on the Sweet Sorbet Designer Paper and the Accessory Pack with the Baker’s Twine. Since I had 3 colors of twine I made 3 different color versions of the card and let my Stamp Club decide which one they wanted.

Summer Starfruit

Pool Party
So let’s see if I can explain (with pictures!) how to do this.
- First cut your card stock to 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 (that’s your standard half sheet of card stock) – but DON’T score it in the middle like you normally would. Use a pencil and make a mark on one of the short ends – I marked at 1″. The punch won’t be perfectly centered but that was ok for me. You want the same mark on the other end of the card stock but on the opposite side. You will use these to line up to do your punching.
- Make sure the Tag Topper punch is open and wiggle your card stock in. I have my mark on the right side.

- Line up the little mark with the edge of the punch. If you click on these photos you should be able to see a bigger version.

- Once you are lined up then punch. You end up with this.

- See the little mark to the right of the punch? You should have a matching mark at the other end of the card stock but on the back side. So do a flip with the card stock and repeat what you just did on the other side. If your marks aren’t on the same side then your punches won’t line up since this is not exactly in the center of the card stock.
- Get out a paper trimmer and put one of the punched ends in the trimmer. You are going to cut off the little rectangle pieces sticking out on either side of the punch.

- Now one end looks like this

- score the punched tab that you have left

- Turn your card stock around to work on the other side. I start by lining up the edge that I just created at 4-1/4″ on my trimmer. Score all the way down to make the center score of the card.

- Slide over the card stock to trim away the two rectangles left on either side of the other punched end.

- And finally fold on the two score lines you created – one in the center and one is the tab.
Now you can decorate your card.
This is what I used on mine:
- The card base on my cards is Sahara Sand.
- I added a Whisper White layer on the inside.
- Punch a strip 5-1/4″ with the Ribbon Border Punch of the card stock in the desired color.
- Cut a 2″ x 5-1/4″ strip of the Sweet Sorbet Designer Series paper and attach it to the punch strip and add this to the front panel of the card.
- Stamp an image – I used Label Love. I used the ink that matched my punched strip. Punch it out with the Artisan Label punch.
- Create a layer for the Artisan Label punch – punch to more in a coordinating color – I used the Pistachio Pudding that is in the paper. Cut each punch in half in opposite directions and then glue the halves onto the back of the stamped punch creating a mat layer.
- Punch a Itty Bitty Flower – scrunch it up to get the layers of card stock to separate and give the flower dimension. Insert a Silver Mini Brad and attach to the Artisan label. Attach the hole thing to the front panel of the card.
- Tie the punched tabs shut with the matching Baker’s Twine from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack. I tied knots in the ends of the twine so it wouldn’t unravel when the card was opened and closed.

I hope that was helpful and that you can now go and make some of these cards yourself. They were a lot of fun and unique twist from the normal cards we make.
Enjoy the day!

Feb 16, 2014 | Big Shot, Cards, Occasions Catalog 2014 |
The Starburst Sayings* stamp set and matching Starburst Framelits* are a fun bundle to play with. I was working on ideas for something else when I created this card. My KSU girls requested a St. Patty’s day card for our February card class. Yes they are ahead of the game! And while working with this set I thought the Oh Happy Day sounded like something you would say on St. Patrick’s Day – right? So I decided to use that to create the card for the KSU class.
I wanted to add what looked like a 4 leaf clover so I tried the new Petite Petals punch*. You might be thinking that doesn’t have 4 petals it has 5. Yes it does but if you cut a slit between two of the petals and then overlap them – you get a little 4 leaf clover – just glue the overlapped petals together and it gives it added dimension too!

For those that wanted a St. Patrick’s Day card they stamped the inside with Teeny Tiny Wishes. And otherwise this could be a birthday or every day kind of card.
Here are some more details on this card –
- Card base is Old Olive
- Whisper White layer embossed with Arrows Textured Embossing Folder*
- Old Olive card stock cut with the Starburst Framelit*
- Stamp the Oh Happy Day* in Smoky Slate on Whisper White card stock and cut with the Starburst Framelit.
- Cut a Tangerine Tango with the same size Starburst Framelit – off set it behind the white stamped one.
- Attach that to the large Old Olive starburst and add to the card front.
- Stamp Oh Happy Day in Tangerine Tango on Whisper White card stock and cut out the HAPPY – straight cuts into a rectangle. Add it over the top of the Smoky Slate one.
- Create the little clover from Old Olive card stock as mentioned above. Attach with a mini glue dot. Add a pearl to the center.
- Stamp inside Whisper White layer as desired.
