Almost Artisan – Card 2

I hope you like my first card from my Artisan Award entries that I showed yesterday – it was one of my favorite ones.  But I also really like this one even though I don’t normally make such bright cards.  This one is on a Melon Mambo Textured card stock base.  I used Basic Black, Crushed Curry and Old Olive with it.  The focal piece is a 3×3 square and could be used on its own for a tag or small card.

Lately I seem to enjoy adding the doodles on my projects – this time I used the black journaler to add the doodles and then also added the splatter from Itty Bitty Backgrounds – I know that stamp set has been around forever and I sure do hope it doesn’t retire.  I use it a lot.

Here is a look at the inside.  It is stamped and doodles to match the front.  And I added a thin Basic Black strip and the Crushed Curry scallop trim edge on one side.

Thanks for checking in today and looking at my work.  This was my second card out of 5 for the Artisan Award Contest.

Flight of the Butterfly meets Pocket Silhouettes

Flight of the Butterfly meets Pocket Silhouettes (and lets hope I spelled that right).  These two stamp sets came together nicely in this card that was based on one that my friend Cindy created for a swap at our Starz Meeting last month.  Here is the link to my post on her original card.  I would have never put these colors together but I really like them and when I was looking at samples that one always stands out for me so I decided to use it for my class today.  I changed the butterfly to use the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set which is a 2-step stampin’ set and what I featured in my class.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Soft Suede card stock and ink
  • Regal Rose card stock and ink
  • Barely Banana card stock and ink (this one is retiring)
  • Pocket Silhouettes stamp set
  • Flight of the Butterfly stamp set
  • Butterfly Punch
  • Trio Flower Punch
  • Soft Subtles brads
  • Eyelet Border Punch
  • Crimper
  • Paper Piercer

I really liked how Cindy added the lace border at the bottom.  Punch a strip with the Eyelet border and then run it through the crimper.  I also add a white panel on the inside that was stamped to match the front.

I didn’t have this in the picture but I decide it would be cute on the inside to stamp one of the curving sayings from the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set on the inside and then the little butterfly to the left so it looks like the butterfly trail.  That was an after thought so I did it after I took the picture.  You’ll just have to imagine it.

I’m going to go play with a few of my new stamps while it is quiet here.  Greg is out playing golf, Ryan is off at a tennis match.  Kyle and Tyler are here but entertaining themselves or each other so it is actually quiet.

Have a great weekend!  Thanks for stopping by.

Pocket Silhouettes

I’m glad I’m not in a spelling bee and my word is Silhouettes – I would get it wrong every time – I always have to look it up.  Today’s card is a swap I received at the STARZ meeting this month.  It was created by my friend Cindy – her blog is here.  She is also featuring the swaps and projects from the STARZ meeting right now – I’ll be posting some of the same creations that she already has up.

I was going to use Cindy’s card for my class yesterday but I already had all the projects I needed so I didn’t have room for more.  I could make another Birds and Butterflies class because there are so many stamp sets that I didn’t even use that feature birds and butterflies.

She used one of my favorite little stamp sets – Pocket Silhouettes.  The set itself doesn’t have birds or butterflies but she added some die-cut butterflies to the card so it would have fit my theme.  I would not have put these colors together but they are great!  Soft Suede, Regal Rose and So Saffron.

And notice on the bottom it is ruffled lace.  Using the Eyelet Border punch she punched a piece of So Saffron card stock and then ran it through the crimper to create ruffles.  When you do this make sure you start with a piece that is longer than what you want the finished piece to be.  Running it through the crimper causes a “shrink” effect.

I love the card Cindy!  Thanks for sharing it.

More 3×3’s

I made some more little 3×3 tags over the weekend.  I use these as little Thank You’s on my orders.  I used up some leftover supplies from other projects – I had 3×3 already cut with some of the layers all ready to go – so I just added the stamped images and assembled.  Put a hole in each corner and added some string to tie them to the order bags.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies for this one:

  • Old olive card stock
  • Basic Grey card stock and ink
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Pocket Sillouettes stamp set
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • 1/8″ hand held punch
  • white crochet thread

I may have already shown this one – it is one of my favorite little designs so sorry if it is a repeat.

Here is another one that I made and as it turns out most of it is retired.  I thought the stamp set was still current but it was retired at the end of the year.

Supplies used are:

  • Kiwi Kiss card stock
  • Rose Red card stock
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Sweet Stems stamp set
  • Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set
  • Black StazOn ink
  • Stampin’ Write markers – Old Olive, Rose Red, Regal Rose
  • Raspberry Tart Designer Series paper
  • 1/8″ handheld punch
  • black crochet thread

And my last design uses a brand new stamp set from the Occasions Mini catalog – the Picnic Parade Hostess set – it is so cute!

Stampin’ Up! Supplies for this one:

  • Tempting Turquoise card stock
  • Old Olive card stock
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Picnic Parade stamp set
  • Black StazOn ink
  • Stampin’ Write markers: Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Sahara Sand, Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, Creamy Carmel
  • Wide oval punch
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • 1/8″ handheld punch
  • White crochet thread

I thought this one turned out cute!  And the little animals are so happy looking.   Thanks for stopping by today.

I hope you’ll come back again.

Ornament Punch Vase

vase-cardThis is one of the cards that we made at this months Stamper’s Club meeting.  I’ve seen this idea on several other blogs – the Ornament Punch turned into a vase.  I love when people think outside the box and come up with unusual ideas for something that seems to be so obviously suited for just one thing.  There are many ideas floating round the blogs out there on different ways to use the ornament punch that is in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini catalog other than the obvious of using it as an ornament.

For this card the tip of the ornament was trimmed off to create the flat bottom on the vase.  The edges are sponged in Basic Gray ink and then Champagne Shimmer Mist Paint is also dabbed on with a sponge.  In real life it really looks like a shiny oriental vase – this photograph doesn’t show it very well.

The Designer Series Paper is Nouveau Chic with colors of Basic Black, Basic Gray, Sage Shadow and Apricot Appeal. I felt like I went outside of my color comfort zone on this one – the Sage and Apricot colors have not been used recently in anything that I’ve done.  I was pleased with how the card turned out and it really was a quick card since the punch created the vase.  I very lightly sponged the Basic Gray ink underneath and to the side of the vase to create shadows and it is actually popped up on a dimensional.

Today is a beautiful day in north Georgia.  We are drying out again from lots of rain earlier this week (several creeks flooded again).  It should be great for the high school football games tonight – it is the first night of playoffs and we did secure a spot.  Go Etowah Eagles!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you are having a wonderful Mother’s Day!

I wanted to share the projects from the Mini Mother’s Day class I had last week.  Everyone had a great time and said I needed to add more last minute classes!  I just knew I hadn’t had a class with anything Mother’s Day, not that you couldn’t use almost anything we make as a Mother’s Day card and gift, but I wanted to do something specific for Mother’s Day.  NOTE: to my mom – don’t read or look any further until I see you or it won’t be a surprise.

I saw the book mark idea last year at convention – that was at the end of July and have wanted to make them for a class ever since then.  I ordered the hardware pieces and have just been waiting for the right class to add the book mark too.  I finally just decided to do the book mark for Mother’s Day and build a class around it instead.  So I announced the class with plans to make the book mark, a Mother’s Day card – I have been seeing the flower pot cards and thought it would be perfect, and then a box of some type to hold the book mark for gift giving.  Then the next day I went to the retreat and by the time I came home I had everything figured out.  One of the projects that Wendy shared was the cutest little purse made with the Big Shot and several dies.  I changed the colors and designer paper and ta-da the box for my bookmark was born.  Michelle shared her version of a flower pot card – that was just what I needed for my class.  I took her idea, changed the colors and actually made it smaller because I needed it to fit in the medium envelopes – I didn’t have any large envelopes here and wanted a matching envelope for the class.  The ideas and the retreat were perfect timing and my class projects were figured out and ready in time for class Wed. night.

So here is what everyone made –
