Sep 8, 2011 | Big Shot, Cards, Charming, Faux Mother of Pearl, Mini - Love Notes, Stampin' Up! Convention |
Here are the last of the Mini Cards from last month’s Hands-on class. This first one is a Tri-Fold card. It was one that I received as a swap at convention from Lisa Horton and I left it just like she created it because it was perfect. I did add the matching envelope for my class.
The card is really made of two 3×3 cards glued together to create a tri fold card. The base is Very Vanilla – with the front of it stamped with the En Fancies stamp and the medallion from Charming.

The other side of the card is Marina Mist – take the folded card and lay it on the Scallop Square Duo die on the large scallop square so that the fold does not get cut. This creates the other side of the card – you glue the back to the inside of the Very Vanilla base.

On the inside of the Marina Mist scallop square add a piece of Very Vanilla with the little stamp in the corner – it comes from the Charming stamp set.

To make the front of the Marina Mist scallop square use Stampin’ Write Markers – Marina Mist and Pear Pizzazz to ink the flower stamp from the Charming set. Huff to re-moisten and stamp on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.

Tie a piece of Pear Pizzazz Seam Binding around the Very Vanilla card stock. Layer on a piece of Pear Pizzazz and then add to the front of the card. To close fold in the Very Vanilla piece from the left and then the Marina Mist from the right. There you have a Tri-Fold card.
And the last card we made during the class was the Faux Mother of Pearl card that I created for my swap at convention.
I have already posted the instructions for this one earlier – you can find them by clicking HERE.
So that wraps up the Mini cards from my class – I hope you liked them. Come back Friday for something new!

Aug 30, 2011 | Big Shot, Cards, Flight of the Butterfly, Holiday Mini catalog 2011, UDI Color Challenge |
Happy Tuesday and welcome to a new color challenge for the week. It’s the Utah Diva’s Color Challenge and we are on week #51. Here is the inspiration picture for this week –
This week we are starting to see some of our new In-Colors – Lucky Limeade and Island Indigo along with Pacific Point and Always Artichoke. Some pretty glass beads are in this week’s inspiration picture. I was looking at trying to make some paper beads but didn’t have papers in the right colors so I’ll have to do that another time.
Instead I went with a card and wanted to use a stamp set that I haven’t used before.

This is what I came up with. It is a long card 6×3 that fits in the long open-end envelopes. The base is Lucky Limeade, then a layer of Always Artichoke with scallops at one end. The Whisper White panel is stamped with the mushrooms from the stamp set Funky Four. It is hard to tell in the picture but I inked the stamp in Lucky Limeade and then took the Always Artichoke Stampin’ Write Marker and went around the outline of each mushroom. I had in my mind that the mushrooms needed a little butterfly sitting on top so I pulled out the set Flight of the Butterfly and my Beautiful Wings Embosslet. The stamped butterfly is done the same as the mushrooms – inked in Pacific Point and then outlined with the Stampin’ Write marker in Island Indigo before I stamped it on my card stock. The words are Pacific Point. I added two little die cut butterflies and some Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon. Then at the very end I decided to pull out the new Dazzling Details that will be in the new Holiday Mini Catalog and add little touches of it on the dots on the butterfly and mushrooms and also on the tiny die-cut butterfly. Here is a close up picture of that.
Oh yeah one more final thing – the mushrooms looked like they were just floating around and so i used the marker to add some scribbles underneath to ground them. Here on this close up picture you can see the two colors on the mushrooms better. Hope you like it.

Aug 23, 2011 | Baroque Motifs, Big Shot, Cards, Thank You, UDI Color Challenge |
Welcome to the Utah Diva’s Color Challenge this week. I wasn’t sure exactly what to do with these colors except flowers – but I didn’t want to do flowers – that was the obvious choice. So I went way outside my comfort zone and created a card that is so not my style. Here is the inspiration picture for this week –

These are some really bright colors – Concord Crush, Perfect Plum, Melon Mambo, Old Olive and Very Vanilla. Here is my funky card….

How do you like that lady with the bright pink hair? She is really bright wearing that Concord Crush dress. But this isn’t just an ordinary card. I saw this idea in a magazine and wanted to try it – see that little tab on the side – well you give that a little tug and look what happens –

The scallop circle rotates to reveal a secret message underneath. I think this idea is really fun and I want to try it again on a different style of card.

One more thing –
I have to tell you that Monday’s news was very unsettling. They are reporting a KSU student named Tyler Davis died after eating at the Commons (the campus dining hall). While this is very sad news the unsettling part is that my son is Tyler Davis and my son goes to KSU and eats at the dining hall too. So it is very strange to listen to the news and hear them say his name. I was very glad that I saw him this morning. Tyler says he has been getting phone calls and text messages all day.

Aug 11, 2011 | Cards, Inspired by Nature, Stampin' Up! Convention, Tutorial, uStamp |
Sorry about that – I created the tutorial and then sent it to be converted and it took so long! Not sure why, maybe because I have a lot of pictures. Anyway I have the tutorial for making the Masked Frame card that I posted yesterday.
This idea was something that I saw on a crafting blog while searching the internet earlier this summer. I wanted a unique and different idea for my card that I was creating for the UStamp swap at Convention. This was something that I haven’t seen on any of the Stampin’ Up! blogs so I wanted to try my hand at it. I did have several attempts and trying different combinations of stamp sets and colors before I finally landed on this one. So here is the tutorial click here.
Have fun trying this out!

Aug 10, 2011 | Big Shot, Cards, Embossing, Inspired by Nature, Masking, uStamp |
Hi everyone! Only a few more days before we move Tyler down to his dorm to start college. We shopped yesterday and the girl at the check out gave us a funny look and said “is he going to college or why are you buying all this stuff?” And yes we are getting ready for college – there were many other things that I thought he needed and his answer was “I’ll let you know later if/when I need that.” Fortunately he isn’t going to be that far from home and I do a monthly card class down on the campus so I will be around.
Well that probably isn’t why you are here on my blog so let’s get on to a stamping project. This card is one that I made for the UStamp Swap at convention. Oh by the way the next UStamp class starts this Friday and I designed TWO projects for the class. If you haven’t signed up for this online class you should – there are over 40 projects from demonstrators all over the world with complete tutorials. CLICK HERE for more information.
Anyway back to my card for today. A bunch of us got together from the last Ustamp Blog Hop and did a swap at convention. Here is my card:

This card has a lot of steps and masking going on and I am writing a tutorial with the instructions for it. I will add it to this post later today.
Colors are Basic Black, Old Olive, Whisper White and Crumb Cake.
Stamp Sets -Nature’s Nest and Inspired by Nature.
This was also my card swap for my PAWS team meeting in July. I’ll be back later today.
UPDATE: I was having some trouble getting my tutorial converted to a PDF so that I can post it for you – I’ll get it fixed in the morning. Thanks.
