May 21, 2009 | Designer Series Paper, Great Grads, Stamps |
Around here it is approaching the end of school and graduation time. Next week is finals and the last day of school. My kids are not graduating this year but my oldest will be next year. So I guess this is the beginning of “A Year in the Life of a Senior”. The only thing is that his year won’t be a typical senior year of high school. Kyle will be doing a Joint Enrollment program at Kennesaw State University – so he will take all of his classes there and won’t actually be at the high school. I already have a letter with the dates for the senior portrait sittings – those are in early June. I know there is lots more stuff to come and I guess we will figure it out as we go along.
The project I wanted to share today is a Graduation Money Holder – you could use the same idea for any occasion where you need to give someone money. I actually made these for a class I had last year but I didn’t have my blog then so I’m going to share it on here for anyone that hasn’t seen this idea.
This is the money holder when it is closed. The colors I used are Brilliant Blue and Summer Sun because these are the school colors for our high school. I used a piece of Designer Series paper to create a belly band which holds it closed – this just slides off to open it. There is another piece that decorates the bottom of the holder. This particular paper is retired – I hope we get a new pack of Designer Paper with one of these colors so I can use it next year. Here is the holder opened.
The inside has a pocket for you to slide in some cash or a check. The stamp set is Great Grads. Change the colors to be your own school colors. Here are some more details for you:
Cutting Instructions:
1. Brilliant Blue Card Stock: 8-1/2” x 9-1/4” – base of holder – score at 2-3/4” and 6-1/2”
2. Summer Sun Card Stock: 8” x 2-1/4” – for front cover
3. Brilliant Blue Card Stock: 3-3/4” x 2-1/4” – mat for “Grad”
4. Whisper White Card Stock: 3-1/2” x 2” – for “Grad”
5. Brilliant Blue Card Stock: 2-1/4” x 1-1/4” – mat for “congratulations”
6. Whisper White Card Stock: 2” x 1” – for “congratulations”
7. Summer Sun Card Stock: 2-1/4” x 2-1/4” – mat for ‘G’
8. Whisper White Card Stock: 2” x 2” – for ‘G’
9. Brilliant Blue Prints Designer Paper: 8-1/4” x 2” – for inside pocket
10. Brilliant Blue Prints Designer Paper: 9-1/2” x 1” – for the band
Instructions:
1. Fold Brilliant Blue card stock base on score lines. On the inside pocket use the a circle punch to punch out half of a circle to create a notch.
2. Put sticky strip on either side of the pocket and adhere the sides.
3. Attach Designer Paper to the front of the pocket.
4. Using Brilliant Blue Ink stamps “Grad”, “congratulations” and “G” and stamp on the Whisper White card stock pieces. Then layer each of these onto the corresponding mat.
5. Attach Summer Sun card stock piece to the front flap of the money holder.
6. Attach “Grad” piece to the front flap overlapping the bottom of the flap and using adhesive only on the top portion.
7. Attach “congratulations” piece to the front flap overlapping “Grad”.
8. Attach the “G” piece inside the flap behind the “Grad” that overlaps from the front.
9. Insert cash or check into the pocket and fold shut.
10. Fold the Designer strip around the holder and adhere the flaps in the back to create a belly band that holds it shut and slides off to open.
Congratulations to all the 2009 graduates!

May 18, 2009 | class, Designer Series Paper, Punch Art |
Today is just disappearing so fast – jazzersize, then a trip to the vet – Aspen is much better but still needs 4 weeks of rest – no running, jumping, etc…. – then I think I’ve been on the computer all day, emails about my May Class to Go kit, and the Designer Paper Share for May, updating some things on my website, then working on all the “finance” stuff and now I’m ready to go to the bank, also need to stop at the dry cleaners (Ryan’s pants for tomorrows band concert) and grocery store (rest of tonight’s dinner – and milk is on sale!) But I wanted to get this done before I go do that.
At Friday’s class the theme was Masculine projects – we made the little suitcase using Sense of Time that I featured during the April blog tour – the post is April 27th (I think that was the date). And we made the little note card set that uses Forest Friends – I had that on my blog earlier too. You can click on a category to see posts only related to that category – both of those projects featured sets from the Occasions Mini Catalog so click on that category to look for those. And I have a search option – although I honestly haven’t tried it to see if it works – I should go check that out.
So then we made two other card projects and here is one of them
– the shirt card.
I saw this idea at the Leadership conference back in January and have been waiting for it to get close to Father’s Day so I could use it in a class. There was a demonstrator that had made a bunch of shirt cards for a swap that I was not part of but she let me take a picture and showed me how she made it – wasn’t that sweet! I just don’t know who it was since I didn’t get one of her cards.
Anyway – I’m not positive that I made it exactly the same way that she did – I only had a picture so I played around with the measurements. I also used different colors. What I decided that I liked was to use a 1″ cut. So on the fold from the center cut 1″ down. Then cut 1″ across towards the center of the card. On the outer edge, start 1″ down and cut 1″ across toward the center. You end up with two flaps which you fold over to create the collar of the shirt – is that not clever! I created a tie template by drawing it out on my grid paper to the shape I wanted. I used the small tag punch for the knot on the tie and for the pocket. Everything is sponged to give it dimension. Some other ideas would be to add little buttons to the collar, I even considered adding textured to the shirt but decided not too. On the inside I stamped “to my Wonderful father” from the Wonderful Favorites stamp set. You could also use uncle, son, grandfather, nephew and other from that stamp set and make it a personal card for one of the guys in your life. The patterned paper we used was Manchester, card stock is Always Artichoke. This is really a quick card!
Have fun with it!
I’ll have the instructions from the blog tour tin either tomorrow or Wed. so if you are looking for that – I haven’t forgotten.

May 14, 2009 | Blog Tour, Circle Scissor Plus, Demonstrator, Designer Series Paper, Wanted |
Remember the card from the Stamper’s Club meeting that I posted the other night. As I was looking at it and thinking about the Late Night Stampers Challenge it got my gears turning that the card we made with the flowers could easily be turned into a masculine card. So this morning that was what I did.
I used the same basic card design – changed the colors and the stamp set that I used.
The colors came from the Designer Paper I used which is called Manchester. It has Always Artichoke, Baja Breeze, Kraft and Very Vanilla. I used imaged from the Wanted stamp set and various circle punches and the Circle Scissor to cut my larger circles. I added a variety of brads to the center like I did on the flower card. One of the Jumbo Silver brads I added a small image stamped on Vanilla card stock. I also added one of the small star brads. The greeting is a rub-on from the Chit Chat rub-on collection. That one set of rub-ons has over 200 different greetings for almost any occasion – I bought one set and have used for several classes and card ideas and still have tons left. It will go a long way!
Don’t forget this month Stampin’ Up! is having a special on the Designer Paper – buy three packs and get a fourth pack free. It also includes the 12″ x12″ textured card stock that comes in the color family packs. And you can mix and match in any combination. Remember that the In-Colors will be retiring in June and if you have any Designer Paper with an In-Color that you love it will also be retired in June so stock up now before they are gone.
Two other Stampin’ Up! specials include the new Jumble Alphanet set for 20% off. This stamp set will be available in the new catalog beginning July 1st. But for this month only you can order it as a sneak peek and get it at 20% off. And my favorite special is sign up as a Demonstrator for only $75! I would jump on that in a heart beat if I wasn’t already a demonstrator. Stampin’ Up! has put together a mini starter kit and it contains more than $75 worth of product (and you can switch out the stamp sets and colors to what you want) PLUS you get all the business supplies from the regular starter kit that’s another $60. This is really an awesome deal. You can sign up directly on my website – www.monika.stampinup.net. I would love to have you as part of my Stampin’ Up! team. Contact me today with any questions you have.
My next post will be for the BLOG TOUR that will run for two days – May 15th and May 16th. I have some great projects to share using the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set. At the end of my Blog Tour post you will get directed to the next stop on the tour. Just follow the link to each stop and you will travel around the country seeing lots of great ideas. I hope you will join me.
Have a great Stampin’ Day!

May 13, 2009 | Designer Series Paper, Occasions Mini 2009 |
Well this is one of the new stamp sets in the Occasions Mini Catalog that I did not order. I already had so much I was
trying to hold back. But everytime I see projects made with the set I just love them. I don’t think I’ve seen anything yet that I didn’t like. Carolyn brought this project to the retreat so I was able to use the set when I was making this project. This is the front of the portfolio (that is what I am calling it). Her original sample include real stitching around all the edges which added just a bit more detail to the project. We did not do this on ours – she actually had the folder put together for us we just added the decorations on the front and all the contents on the inside. I do have a little craft sewing machine that I should get out and try some sewing on my projects.
Inside the folder we had a small notepad which we covered and decorated to match the outside. A pen that we added the matching designer paper too and a couple of cards. This stamp set is great for the spotlighting technique that we used on this project. If you need help lining up the boots use the stamp-a-ma-jig to get them all in a straight line and position on the paper.
Too cute!
It is raining again today. Not hard but just enough that everything is wet – I didn’t have to water my plants on the back porch. Aspen is feeling much better and wants desperately to chase a chipmunk – I’m taking him out only on a leash and making him walk. He isn’t very happy about that. And Magnolia doesn’t understand why he can’t play – she wants to wrestle and run with him. Tonight we are going to Tyler’s band banquet at the High School. I also had another PTA board meeting (I’m a committee chair at both schools) tonight but I’m not going to this one and tonight is Pokeeno night too – I’ll have to miss that also. In June I’m hosting Pokeeno with two other ladies in the group and it will be a pool party with our husbands (normally we just play with our group of 12 ladies). I’m planning to make invitations using the Game Night and Card Games stamp sets.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by – leave a comment to say “Hi!”. And come back later this week for the blog tour!

May 12, 2009 | Blog Tour, Designer Series Paper |
Sorry for the late posting – another busy day – so many things happening at the end of the school year we can’t even do them all. Today Kyle had an AP test this morning, Ryan had a tennis match and then a band picnic and he had soccer practice which he missed. Then I had the last PTA board meeting of the year (and party) which I got to late after we spent some time at the picnic. Tommorrow is the same and now I have more things on Thursday too. Our schools get out at the end of May so there are lots of things to finish up in just a short amount of time. Anyway on to a stamping project…
One of the projects we made at the weekend retreat was an Envelope Scrapbook. This was the project that Dawn brought.
We used the Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper and the matching colors of card stock. When you remove the belly band and open the flap the center panel has three envelopes – each cut to a different length. Inside each envelope is a piece of cardstock that can be pulled out. You can add pictures and journaling to each of these and even to each of the envelope pockets.
The April Class Kits To Go will be ready tomorrow. I cut everything today for those and now I’m printing the instruction sheets. That was actually the project that I shared at the retreat. I think everyone liked it, but it took everyone the longest since it had the box and 6 cards and stamped envelopes. Stampin’ Up! has an art contest every month and I think next month’s theme for one of them is butterflies. I might just have to mail that in for the contest.
I also finished up my projects for the blog tour that is taking place this Friday and Saturday. So make sure to come back so you can visit all the stops on my tour. And I’ll give you the links to go to two other tours if you want to see even more ideas. I’m really pleased with my projects and one of them will be a class so I’ll send more details out on that as soon as I decide on the date.
Thanks for stopping by today!
