Around here it is approaching the end of school and graduation time. Next week is finals and the last day of school. My kids are not graduating this year but my oldest will be next year. So I guess this is the beginning of “A Year in the Life of a Senior”. The only thing is that his year won’t be a typical senior year of high school. Kyle will be doing a Joint Enrollment program at Kennesaw State University – so he will take all of his classes there and won’t actually be at the high school. I already have a letter with the dates for the senior portrait sittings – those are in early June. I know there is lots more stuff to come and I guess we will figure it out as we go along.
The project I wanted to share today is a Graduation Money Holder – you could use the same idea for any occasion where you need to give someone money. I actually made these for a class I had last year but I didn’t have my blog then so I’m going to share it on here for anyone that hasn’t seen this idea.
This is the money holder when it is closed. The colors I used are Brilliant Blue and Summer Sun because these are the school colors for our high school. I used a piece of Designer Series paper to create a belly band which holds it closed – this just slides off to open it. There is another piece that decorates the bottom of the holder. This particular paper is retired – I hope we get a new pack of Designer Paper with one of these colors so I can use it next year. Here is the holder opened.
The inside has a pocket for you to slide in some cash or a check. The stamp set is Great Grads. Change the colors to be your own school colors. Here are some more details for you:
Cutting Instructions:
1. Brilliant Blue Card Stock: 8-1/2” x 9-1/4” – base of holder – score at 2-3/4” and 6-1/2”
2. Summer Sun Card Stock: 8” x 2-1/4” – for front cover
3. Brilliant Blue Card Stock: 3-3/4” x 2-1/4” – mat for “Grad”
4. Whisper White Card Stock: 3-1/2” x 2” – for “Grad”
5. Brilliant Blue Card Stock: 2-1/4” x 1-1/4” – mat for “congratulations”
6. Whisper White Card Stock: 2” x 1” – for “congratulations”
7. Summer Sun Card Stock: 2-1/4” x 2-1/4” – mat for ‘G’
8. Whisper White Card Stock: 2” x 2” – for ‘G’
9. Brilliant Blue Prints Designer Paper: 8-1/4” x 2” – for inside pocket
10. Brilliant Blue Prints Designer Paper: 9-1/2” x 1” – for the band
Instructions:
1. Fold Brilliant Blue card stock base on score lines. On the inside pocket use the a circle punch to punch out half of a circle to create a notch.
2. Put sticky strip on either side of the pocket and adhere the sides.
3. Attach Designer Paper to the front of the pocket.
4. Using Brilliant Blue Ink stamps “Grad”, “congratulations” and “G” and stamp on the Whisper White card stock pieces. Then layer each of these onto the corresponding mat.
5. Attach Summer Sun card stock piece to the front flap of the money holder.
6. Attach “Grad” piece to the front flap overlapping the bottom of the flap and using adhesive only on the top portion.
7. Attach “congratulations” piece to the front flap overlapping “Grad”.
8. Attach the “G” piece inside the flap behind the “Grad” that overlaps from the front.
9. Insert cash or check into the pocket and fold shut.
10. Fold the Designer strip around the holder and adhere the flaps in the back to create a belly band that holds it shut and slides off to open.
Congratulations to all the 2009 graduates!
