Nov 29, 2012 | Big Shot, Cards, Christmas, Create with Connie & Mary |
It is time for a new Thursday challenge at Create with Connie & Mary. It seems like it has been a long time – but it has really just been two weeks. I hope you enjoyed the double challenge – the shaped card using the sketch. But now it is time for a new one and this week is a color challenge – Wisteria Wonder, Baja Breeze, Silver Glimmer.

The only think I could think of was snowflakes. So I made some silver glimmer snowflakes and took a card I had made a couple of weeks ago and modified it to fit this color challenge. I originally saw a similar card on Pinterest and then on Heather Summer’s blog.

The card base is Baja Breeze. I cut strips of Whisper White and embossed them with the Snow Flurry embossing folder – and I actually go to use my new Texture Boutique Embosser – which Stampin’ Up! briefly had for sale – but they sold out so quickly – I do hope they get more in so everyone else can buy one too. After they were embossed I cut the ends to turn them into flags and attached them to the card base. I stamped the Christmas Blessings in Wisteria Wonder. I cut snowflakes with the Big Shot and the Silver Glimmer paper. The top one was colored with the Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Write Marker (I’m not positive that I like that – I think I should have left it silver). I layered all the snowflakes and put the Wisteria Wonder brad through the center and then finally added a bit of Baja Breeze Seam Binding ribbon behind it.
Finally I decided to get my Silver smooch and spray the whole card to give it more glimmer. It really doesn’t look good in the picture – it looks better in person – but I’m just not much of a glimmer girl so maybe I should have done without.
In any case this is my color challenge card for this week.

Are you ready?
This week’s Thursday challenge at Create with Connie & Mary is a 2 week double challenge! First it’s a sketch challenge and second we have been challenged to create a shaped card using one of Stampin’ Up!’s Big Shot dies or framelits.

So with that in mind – what was I going to make? That took me a while to figure out. I finally found some inspiration on Pinterest and here is my card for the 2 week double challenge –

It’s not a very big card – we have a 3-1/2″ circle die and a 3″ circle die and that’s what I used. I think I need to make an envelope for it but I haven’t done that yet. The card base is Basic Black and I started by cutting a regular sized card and scored it in half. Then I put that on the 3-1/2″ circle die so that on the side with the fold it was inside the cutting blade – that keeps the front and back connected. Cut Whisper White with the 3″ circle die – cut two so one can go on the inside. The one on the front is then run through with the dots embossing folder. I actually sponged a little bit across the dots and around the edge of the front circle.
The Itty Bitty Banner fit perfectly on this card since it was pretty small. I cut an extra banner in black and layered it behind to create a shadow. I tied two golf tees together with the Basic Black ribbon and then put them on the card front with mini glue dots.
I hope you can see the sketch in this card – the two tees are the two strips going down the left side of the card. The bitty banner is the greeting. The bow around the tees is the “flower” on the card.
So who is going to get this card – I was planning to give it to Greg for his birthday which is quickly approaching but we were just invited over to celebrate his golfing-buddies birthday on Friday – so it just might go to him instead. I guess that means I better make another one.
Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
- Stamps: Itty Bitty Banners
- Ink: Jet Black StazOn, Crumb Cake
- Card Stock: Basic Black, Whisper White
- Accessories: Big Shot die-cut machine, 3-1/2″ circle die, 3″ circle die, Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Bitty Banner Framelits, Basic Black 1/8″ Taffeta ribbon, Stampin’ Sponge, Mini Glue Dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals

You know its Thursday when there is a new challenge posted at Create with Connie & Mary . This week we have some nice fall colors – More Mustard, Cajun Craze, and Midnight Muse – for our challenge.

This may not have much of a fall feel though – since it is full of butterflies. The idea for this card came from a piece of framed art that I saw Pinterest.
The card base is Midnight Muse and then a layer of First Edition Designer paper stamped with the flowers in Midnight Muse. I added a piece of the crochet trim on the side and then cut lots of butterflies with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit – More Mustard, Cajun Craze and Midnight Muse. I added the pearls to the More Mustard butterflies.
Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
- Card Stock: Midnight Muse, More Mustard, Cajun Craze
- Accessories: Big Shot die-cut machine, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, First Edition Designer Series Paper Stack, Pearls, Crochet Trim, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Nov 1, 2012 | Big Shot, Cards, Christmas, Create with Connie & Mary, Holiday catalog 2012 |
So how was Halloween? I was worried that there were no trick-or-treaters. When the boys were little we all went out around 6 and I thought that was what everyone still did. But no one was out at 6, or at 6:30 – it was 7 before I had my first two little trick-or-treaters. The rest sprinkled in here and there until about 8:30. No where near the number of kids we used to get. I think our end of the neighborhood doesn’t really have any little kids anymore – we have all lived in our homes for ever and our kids are either grown, in college, or well into high school. So I have candy left! Actually I gave out pretzels too and while my boys thought that was a bad idea – let me just say most of the kids were more excited about the pretzels than the candy – really!
So on to this weeks Create with Connie & Mary Thursday challenge! This week we have a cute sketch challenge. When I saw it with the three little elements on the front it made me think of the Merry Mini’s stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog. So that is what I decided to use for my card.

Mine is a 4-1/4″ square card with a layer of Festival of Prints Designer Paper from the little pack in the Holiday catalog. If you want more ideas with the same stamp set be sure to see the cards that Mary created for the new Card “Create”ions class. Details are below.

Are you ready for a butterfly creation today? Well I have one all ready for this weeks Create with Connie & Mary Thursday challenge! This week is a color challenge – Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight and Lucky Limeade. Actually I could probably use those same colors and make something for this weeks Neon challenge on My Digital Studio.net – but I probably won’t have time to get it done before the deadline so forget that. Ok – here is this fun card —

It’s really bright and has more of a summer feel to it. I know that makes it out of season – but that’s ok. The idea/inspiration from this card came from a new blog that I started following – it is a demonstrator in Germany – her name is Jenni – and her blog is written in German. So I have to dig deep into my memory bank and try to remember some German so I can figure out what she is saying. Maybe I’ll get a few words here and there….. anyway she has some really pretty creations and one was similar to this card with the butterflies. So I used that idea along with this weeks colors for the challenge –

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
- Stamps: French Foliage, Petite Pairs
- Ink: Island Indigo, and Daffodil Delight and Lucky Limeade Markers
- Card Stock: Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight, Vellum
- Accessories: Big Shot die-cut machine, Finishing Touches Edgelits, White Bakers Twine, Elegant Butterfly punch, Corner Rounder punch, Basic Rhinestone jewels

And guess what Connie & Mary just started – a new online mini class that is all about cards – and looks like it is going to be great! There are already some sneak peeks on the main site but if you want to see everything you have to join the class! Here are some of the details for you –

Oct 18, 2012 | Big Shot, Create with Connie & Mary, Designer Series Paper, Halloween, Holiday catalog 2012 |
Are you still getting ready for Halloween? I finally bought a pumpkin yesterday but I haven’t put out any Halloween decorations yet. But I have been coming up with different Halloween treat ideas and I have another one for you today. It’s based on a sketch for this weeks Create with Connie & Mary Thursday challenge.

Here is what the sketch looks like –

I guess it looks like it could be a card but it’s not! It’s actually a slip cover for a box of mummy candy that I found at the store.

It just slips around the box. I just happened to have a piece of the Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series paper that was exactly the same height as the box of candy. I wrapped the paper around it and trimmed the extra and glue the ends together to form the slip cover. “Boooo” is stamped directly on the designer paper. I cut a strip of Tangerine Tango card stock and embossed it with the square lattice embossing folder – glued it diagonally to the front of the box and trimmed it against the box. I used a leftover tag from the Googly Treat Kit and stamped it with the mummy image. I sponged the tag with Crumb Cake to tone down the white since my designer paper had Very Vanilla in it. I also watercolored the mummy to give him some dimension. I tied some Basic Black ribbon around the box and through the tag. Now to decide who will get this mummy treat…..
Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
- Ink: JetBlack StazOn, Crumb Cake
- Card Stock: Tangerine Tango
- Accessories: Big Shot die-cut machine, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Ghoulish Googlies Designer Kit, Stampin’ Sponge, Aqua-painter, Basic Black 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series paper
Visit Create with Connie & Mary and submit your creation for this weeks challenge – each week 3 top creations are selected. Each challenge is open for a week. Is this your week to be one of the top picks? Do you think you can use this sketch for something other than a card?
