Spring Retreat Make&Takes

Well I’m really behind on sharing about the Spring 2017 Stamp, Scrap & Create Retreat.  It was a few months ago and I didn’t share about it on my blog then but I’m going to do that now.  And be sure to save the date for the Fall retreat – September 29-October 1.  I held the retreat at a beautiful cabin in the North Georgia Mountains.  I’m actually heading back up there later this month to host a Demonstrator Getaway Weekend.  It is so much fun to getaway for the weekend and be creative with friends.

At the Spring Retreat we had Make&Take projects for everyone there.  We had a project for Friday night and another one for Saturday.

For Friday night we stuck with a fairly simple project – a card and a little 3-D succulent.

These use products from the Oh So Succulent Suite from the Occasions Catalog.  We used the Popcorn Box die and cut it shorter to create the container for the succulent.  The card uses 4 x 5-1/4 piece of designer paper that is cut at a diagonal.  You can mix and match the patterns from a pack of designer paper.  Everyone at the retreat got a piece of all the different patterns in the pack.

On Saturday we had a bigger project and taught 5 different water coloring techniques.  We used the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and dies to create a set of 4 cards – each with a different technique and a card holder with a 5th technique.

Everyone also made a 3D project to match the cards using the Window Box Thinlits Dies.  Since I prepped everything ahead I did a ton of Big Shot cutting for this one!

Inside the Window Box was a battery operated tea light – the back of the box opens up so you can turn on your light.  We strung a wire through so you could hang it from a hook somewhere.

The projects turned out great and everyone enjoyed making them and learning the new techniques.  I hope you can join me in the fall.

Thanks for stopping by.

A Little Wild with Embossing Paste

One of my favorite items in the new Stampin’ Up! catalog is the A Little Wild stamp set.  I just love the little elephant and I love that the animals have fronts and backs and the dies cut out both into a little tag.  You can use them like that or cut them apart.

And another one of my favorites is the new Embossing Paste.  That along with the dies and palette knives make it easy and fun to create interesting textured backgrounds.

For my card I paired them together – I created this for a swap card – so I’ve already made a whole stack of these.

elephant

I used the brick mask from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks and a small amount of the Embossing Paste.  I didn’t want full coverage on my card stock so I just smeared it through the mask where I wanted it.  Every card turns out just a little different.  The paste dries quickly if you are using a thin layer.  I wish you could feel the texture!

The little elephant was stamped on Shimmery White card stock and then I watercolored with Soft Sky ink using my Aquapainter.  I also lightly watercolored on the cloud – which is really the Pretty Label punch.  I finished the card with some Pool Party Baker’s Twine around the Crumb Cake Layer.

You can get the A Little Wild stamp set as part of a bundle with the Little Loves Framelit Dies.  Be sure to look for bundles throughout the catalog – they save you 10%.

Fun to create with

Do you ever find a stamp set or set of products that are just fun to create with?  Well I think the Stampin’ Up! catalog has such a set.  I really don’t NEED this set for anything in particular but every time I go through the catalog I am drawn to this suite of products.  At first I resisted.  I started with just buying the Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper.  Then I bought the coordinating Baker’s Twine.  Then I decided to get the Washi Tape.  I was resisting getting the stamp set because I really didn’t need it.  But darn it.  I gave in.  The whole suite is just fun and makes me happy.  I bet that was the plan all along!!

Here is the first card I made with the stamp set inspired by a swap card I received.

P-a-p-hello

On my card I used Sahara Sand, Emerald Envy, Basic Black and Whisper White card stock.  I used the Basic Black Baker’s Twine on the card.  The Twines shown with the suite in the catalog are the Flirty Flamingo and the Crushed Curry and Basic Black solid twines.

The bottom white piece is stamped – dino in Emerald Envy, sold spots in Sahara Sand, open spots are Basic Black.  This is really just random stamping to fill up the white strip.  I attached at the bottom of the Emerald Envy layer and the patterened paper on the top and then add the Basic Black strip to cover the seam.  Tie the twine around and add to the Sahara Sand card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stamp the Hello There in Emerald Envy on Whisper White card stock and punch it out with the 1-3/4″ Circle punch.  The image is a bit wonky so its not an even fit but it works!

Cute and Fun – if that’s what you want this suite is for you.

Red, White, and Blue

Red, White and Blue or in the case of Stampin’ Up! colors – Real Red, Whisper White and Dapper Denim.  The perfect combination for a patriotic card.  The 4th of July is quickly approaching and it will be Independence Day – you could use this idea for an invitation to a summer celebration.

RWB-watercolor-words

I used the Watercolor Words stamp set on page 136 of the Stampin’ Up! 2017-2018 Annual catalog.  I even used the card idea on that page!  I just switched up the colors.  The card on that page uses the Note Cards & Envelopes and I actually made a full sized card so I added my Whisper White layer onto a Real Red card base.  My finished card is 5-1/2″ wide and 4-1/4″ tall – that is the normal size that I create.

I added the Pick a Pattern Washi Tape which is a variety of Black & White designs in 5 different widths.  The Real Red strip is stamped and then punched on each end with the Triple Banner Punch.  I added a silver Mettalic Enamel Shaped star.

I even decorated the inside of the card this time –

And be sure to dress up the envelope too – a little stamping and a bit of washi tape too.

Enjoy your day!

Wood Words in Tranquil Tide

I sure do wish I was a good writer.  But I’m not.  I often sit with my fingers on the keys just waiting to think of something to write.  So these blog posts are not always easy.  And I certainly don’t ever have catchy titles like others do.  My title is usually just the fact of what my project is about.  So I hope I don’t bore you.  Perhaps you don’t read any of the words any way and just come for the pictures!

Today’s card uses the Wood Words stamp set and the new Tranquil Tide In-Color.

For this one I decided to use Very Vanilla with the Tranquil Tide and I also used the new Very Vanilla Solid Baker’s Twine.  Have I told you how much I love all the new ribbons.  I do!  And my plan is to make a video and show them all to you.  I think you can see them better that way than you can just looking at them in the catalog.  Hoping to do that this week.  Sorry – I got off topic.

For this card I also stamped on the inside –

I just added a Very Vanilla layer and stamped the corner with the flowers.  We made this card in one of my private card classes and it will also be an option at this month’s Card Maker’s class on Friday.  I’ll have 2 color choices – the Tranquil Tide shown here and also Fresh Fig.  Both look nice with the Very Vanilla.

If you are local to me come on Friday to Card Maker’s Class – I have class at 10 am and again at 7 am.  CLICK HERE for my class calendar on my website – you can read the details of each class and RSVP for the one you’d like to attend.

CASE the Catalog

Have you ever heard some in the crafting world say they CASEd something?  Did you wonder what it meant?

Here in the Stampin’ Up! World we have a definition for the word CASE which means Copy And Share Everything.  So I guess that really makes it an acronym.  In our world we often see ideas and copy them – often with some changes but not necessarily.  Sometimes you change the colors, or the stamp set or the orientation.  Or switch the shapes of elements or any number of other things.  I went through our new catalog one day and marked a bunch of ideas that I thought would be good CASE cards. And then I’ll use those as ideas or starting points for cards I’ll be using in my classes.  This card today was one of those ideas.

in-color-compare

I used this card in my team meeting last month to showcase some of our new In-Colors.  There are 3 of the new In-colors on here along with 2 other colors from our collections.  I cased a card out of the catalog.  Can you guess which one?

It is on page 40 – on of the cards in the Pick a Pattern Suite samples.  I followed the layout and kept the elements basically but used different colors, different stamp set and card stock instead of designer paper.

This card also shows the comparison of the card stock colors so from left to right:

Powder Pink, Sweet Sugarplum, Berry Burst, Rich Razzleberry, Fresh Fig

The stamp set I used is the new Label Me Pretty set.  I used two punches – 1-3/4″ Circle and Classic Label.  And I added a little Berry Burst bow!  This card comes together pretty quickly.

Thanks for stopping in today!  I’m finishing up prep work for my Catalog Kickoff and BOGO sale on Saturday so I may not get another chance to post here until after that is over.  If you are local to me I hope you will stop by – visit my calendar for details HERE.
