My Workshop Wow at the Stampin’ Up! Birmingham Regional was a demonstration on how to make paper bags using the recycled paper that comes as packing material in our Stampin’ Up! orders. Every box gets filled with paper to keep the items inside safe during shipment. I always hate to throw out the brown paper. Last year I used a bunch to wrap our Christmas presents, we also use it for a fire starter in the fire pit, but not too long ago I realized I could make my own little paper treat bags. And this is how I made them.

Brown paper from the Stampin' Up! boxes
I take the brown paper out of my Stampin’ Up! boxes and I smooth it out flat and then fold it on the perforated lines like an accordion so I can store it. To make four bags tear off one of the perforated sections. Fold it in half matching up the short ends. Then fold it in half again matching up the short ends one more time.

fold in half twice
Now fold in half in the opposite direction and then place the folded stack on your Clear Scallop Square Die so that the fold is inside one edge of the die and doesn’t get cut.

Now run through the Big Shot Die Cutting machine with a cutting pad on the bottom and on the top. When you cut through you will end up with four folded bag pieces.

To make each bag add glue to either side – leaving the top with the scallops open and the fold is at the bottom of the bag. I also took each edge and ran it through the Crimper a little bit and then back out.

So that makes the little bag and then its time to decorate. I had lots of fun creating all different themed bags. The one I showed at the Birmingham Regional was this one –

For this bag I pulled the edges through a Whisper White Craft ink pad. I stamped snowflakes (from Season of Friendship stamp set) in Whisper White Craft ink. In the top corner I added the phrase from Sweet Season stamp set in Early Espresso. I pulled a piece of Bashful Blue Satin Ribbon around the bottom of the bag – tie a piece of White Baker’s Twine around the ends. I cut snowflakes from the Northern Frost Sizzlet Strip Die. I added the snowflake with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then added a pearl to the center.
And what do you think is inside? Something sweet of course….
A snowflake cookie – made with the new Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamps. I made a whole batch of cookies – actually two using two different recipes. I wrapped them in plastic wrap and put one in each bag. These were my swaps at the regional too.

Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamp cookies
The cookies on the back portion of the tray are the made using the Sugar Cookie recipe that comes with the Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamps. The cookies on the front portion are made using a Cream Cheese Sugar Cookie recipe that I found on Stampin’ Connection (a site for demonstrators). For both recipes I had to add more flour than the recipe called for – I’m not sure if that is because I live in the south and it is humid so the dough was too sticky with the regular recipe. Anyway the cookies them selves are very good. If you got a swap from me at regional you had the Cream Cheese cookie recipe.
I’ll be back later this week to show you the rest of the ideas that I came up with for these little bags. I had a whole bunch.
Thanks for stopping by!

Oct 4, 2011 | Big Shot, Birthday, Cards, Masculine, UDI Color Challenge |
I finished this card and have it sitting on my desk so I remember to write my blog post. It makes me smile! I keep looking at it and see all the smiling faces and I smile right back. I think I’ll just keep it there all week. Do you want to see it too and see if it makes you smile?
See all those smiling dogs – aren’t they so happy looking? I hope it brings a smile to your day today. This is my card for the UDI color challenge this week – #56. Here is the inspiration picture that we had for these colors –

These are all in the Neutrals Collection – Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Basic Gray, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla. After looking at the colors the first thing that came to mind was dogs and the fun little stamp in Not So Seriously stamp set. So that is what I decided to use. Then I decided it would be fun to put a big bone on the card. Well did you know that you can make a bone from two hearts and a rectangle – yep you can. That was what I did – I opened My Digital Studio and added two of the heart punches to my page – then I made them bigger and added the rectangle in between. With My Digital Studio I can line them up nicely too – so I made the bone the size I wanted and printed it out to create a template which I traced onto Very Vanilla card stock. Then I sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink and stamped it with the Wonderfully Worn stamp. That gave me a big bone for the front of my card.
The base of the card is Chocolate Chip and also stamped with Wonderfully Worn. The dogs were stamped on Very Vanilla and watercolored with the Neutrals WaterColor Crayons and an Aqua-painter. I did use the Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write marker for the collars and the spots. I punched them out with the 2-1/2″ circle punch. Then cut a 3″ Soft Suede circle with the Big Shot. Layered those and trimmed off the bottom and attached to my bone. I tied some Crumb Cake seam binding on the side. They still make me smile.

Oct 3, 2011 | Big Shot, Halloween, Holiday Mini catalog 2011 |
Last month at my Hand’s On class we made these fun Halloween Luminaries……
I bought the House of Haunts stamp set just for this project because the house and tree images fit perfectly in the circle openings. The luminary is made with the 4″ square coasters just like the Strength & Hope Luminary I made a few months back – CLICK HERE to see more on that.
For this one I covered my coasters with the Pick Your Poison Designer Series Paper in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday mini catalog. And used the Big Shot to cut the circles. The house from House of Haunts is stamped on one vellum panel and the tree is stamped on the other three. I used the Daffodil Stampin’ Write Marker to color the backside of the moon and windows. The ribbon that holds it all together is the Basic Black Taffetta. I added a few rhinestones and then finally went back and added a punched bat. The punch isn’t in our regluar catalog any more but there were some on the Clearance Rack on Saturday. Go to my online store to see everything in the Clearance Rack – these items can only be ordered online.
Here is a view with one of the lit..

Use a battery operated tea light. We have been having fall weather the past few days so it definitely feels like we should be getting ready for Halloween – finally! I hope you like it.

Sep 21, 2011 | Big Shot, Designer Series Paper, Scrapbook Pages |
As I was planning for my August Scrapbook class I decided I wanted to do a sports themed page. But I wanted it to be generic enough that it could be for a variety of sports or even not a sport at all. For me the star is a shape that covers so many things including sports so I wanted to use the star element and then I wanted a paper that was flexible enough that it could be used for most any sport or other event – I decided on the Well Worn Designer Series paper. I found a sketch in a magazine and took some ideas from a few other layouts that I have seen and put it all together to create this scrapbook layout for my class.
You can change the title to suit your needs – use it for a sports layout, a bbq layout, 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial day, an outdoor camping layout, playing ball with the dogs, any number of things would work here. That’s the flexibility of using stars!
The stars are the Big Shot die and I cut them out of chipboard and then out of the Well Worn DSP. I mixed up the patterns, sanded all the edges and even stamped on some of them. I personally like to use the Anywhere Glue Stick to attach the Designer Paper to Chipboard – it has enough wiggle room that you can slide your paper into the exact spot that you want it and then it drys and hold tight.
The strips of Designer Paper are torn on the ends and curled back just a little. The background stamping is from Extreme Elements stamp set. I used various images from the set including the stars.
I also used the Top Note Die (love that one) and cut two – one from Not Quite Navy card stock and one from River Rock card stock (it gets trimmed inside the perforated lines). These are layered together and stamped with the Notes & Details stamp set for the journaling.
The title letters are cut using the Big Shot and the Simple Letters dies. The ones that over lap the photo mat are not glue to it – that way I can slip my picture up under the letters if needed. I plan to put a focal picture on the Cajun Craze mat and then a collage of photos on the River Rock mat across the two pages.
The Notes & Details stamp set even has a date stamp which I added at the bottom of the photo mat on the left page.
I hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by – I hope you’ll leave a note a say “hi”.
