Convention Room Mate gifts

My Room mates at convention this year are the same as last year:

  • Sue is in my downline and lives in Georgia, we are traveling together to and from convention
  • Michele is from Iowa.  I met her at my first convention when we decided to room together never having met each other.
  • Diane is also from Iowa.  I met her last year when the four of us decided to room together.

We exchange room mate gifts each year and I always want to think of something unique.  It’s not always easy – and I was running out of time….So this year I kind of have a combo room mate gift – something new and something old that they have probably all seen before.  But in any case I’m sure they will be pleased.

Since this post is going up while I’m at convention I will have already given the girls their gifts and don’t need to hide them.  Both of these projects I have previously posted – one is a bag tag – I made myself and OWL tag – click here for the original post –  so that I could be identified as part of the Late Night Stampers group.  My tag also won the Late Night Stamper’s Owl contest – I’m not sure I ever posted about that – if you are part of the demo only group my tag is on the main yahoo page for the group.  If you see me around convention I hope you will say hi.  Michele is also a member of the LNS group so I decided to make her an Owl tag also.  Ours have the “LNS” on the front and our names on the back.  And then ultimately decided to also make a tag for Diane and Sue – their tags use the chipboard birds.    My original tag uses the retired Good Morning Sunshine Designer Series papers so I had to find a different paper to use for the new tags so it would all be current product – I decided on the Tall Tales Designer Series Paper and thought the tags turned out cute!  I hope you like them.

The base of the tag is cut from the Long Board chipboard pieces using the Big Shot and the Top Note Die.  I also cut the designer paper for the front and the back using the Top Note die.  The paper is attached with the Anywhere Glue Stick.  The names are die cut using the Billboard Alphabet strip.  I colored the chipboard pieces using Sponge Daubers and Craft ink.

The second little gift I am giving the girls is the little game night box that I gave to my leadership conference roommates.  I know they have all seen the project already because it was the one that won the stamping challenge in January.  So you can see it here at this post.

If I’m lucky this year’s convention bag will match my tags.  But probably not.  Every year we get a bag with all of our stuff inside.  So with thousands of demonstrators carrying the same bag – you have to put a tag on it so you can make sure you keep up with your own.  I’m excited for us to put these on our bags!

I glued all the pieces on with Crystal Effects so they should not come off.

I’ll let you know how they hold up.

Happy Stampin’!

Great Friend card

Here is another STARZ swap card.  This one was designed by Michelle Scileppi.  Another set that I really like – it must be the butterflies!starz-swap-4

Here is a list of supplies:

  • Dusty Durango card stock
  • Soft Suede card stock
  • Certainly Celery card stock
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Vellum card stock
  • Great Friend stamp set
  • Soft Suede classic ink
  • Certainly Celery classic ink
  • Whisper White craft ink
  • White Gel Pen
  • Distresser tool
  • Big Shot Die Cut machine
  • SU Little Leaves Sizzlet Die
  • 1-3/4″ circle punch

But this card has a surprise – it is a pop-up on the inside…. starz-swap-4bhow fun is that.

If you remember last week I posted a tennis card and this is the card I modeled it after.

We saw this kind of pop-up card at convention last year but I hadn’t tried to make one until I saw Michelle’s card.  Sometimes it is better to have an actual example in hand to work from that just a picture.  That’s why swap cards are so great.  I’m headed to convention next week and will be back with lots of swap cards.  I’m participating in a Shoebox swap on Tuesday night – I’ll tell you more about that later.  We have a STARZ meeting at convention and we’ll do a swap there as well as make some projects that various demos are sharing.  And then we’ll have Make-n-Takes during convention and general swapping with any demos we run into along the way – at the airport, at the hotel, walking the around Salt Lake City, in between classes, standing in line, …… you get the picture.

Have a great weekend!

Birthday Party for Natalie

Last weekend I did a birthday party for Natalie.  We had a fun all girls afternoon.  Natalie had three friends come over for her party and her mom, Becky, and I.  I showed the girls how to make their very own Paper Bag Scrapbook and then we made little purses using the Big Shot die-cut machine.  Back in June when Becky was planning the birthday party she said that Natalie loved pink and green so we went through the catalog to find the perfect paper – it turned out to be the Raspberry Tart Designer Series paper and the girls all loved it.  I used the same pack pf paper for their scrapbooks and their purses.  The scrapbook was one I had designed a couple of years ago and uses an old Stampin’ Up! stamp set that I still think is perfect for this project. The paper bag scrapbook is full of pockets and the stamp set is about pockets and friends and how you can never have too many.  Here are some pictures from this fun after noon and a close up of the two projects we made.

It was so nice to hear the comments from the girls as they made their projects.  They all said this was the best party they had ever been too.

For the Top Note purse the girls got to use the Big Shot die-cut machine.  They lined up and ran their paper through for the different dies – we used the Top Note and the Flower Daisies die.  The girls thought it was so cool how their shapes popped right out after they rolled the paper through the machine.natalie-big-shot-sm

Becky, Natalie’s mom, wants to do this for her own birthday next year.

Making mini scrapbooks is a fun project and there are endless ideas out there.  The paper bag scrapbook is just one and is perfect for little girls.nalaie-stamping

Have fun stamping with your friends!  And if you want to have a birthday party let me know.

Just Tennis

The day before Ryan’s birthday was one of the tennis pro’s birthday.  So I made her a card using the Just Tennis stamp set. Just-Tennis

Supplies (for the outside of the card):

  • Night of Navy card stock and ink
  • Garden Green card stock and ink
  • Summer Sun ink
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Just Tennis stamp set
  • Birthday Wish stamp set (same one I used on Ryan’s card)
  • 3/4″ circle punch
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Big Shot die-cut machine
  • Stampin’ Up Perfect Details Texture Plate

just-tennis-insideIt is actually a pop-up card on the inside.  Additional supplies used on the inside are the 1-3/4″ circle punch, Vellum Card stock, and Mini glue dots.  To create the pop-up you need to punch a 1-3/4″ circle from the vellum card stock.  Then use your paper snips to cut around the circle to create a swirl.  Then I attached the tail end to the bottom of the card – making sure the circle itself is lying in the center.  It then got covered with the other piece of card stock.  I put a mini glue dot on the center of the circle (on top) then shut the card so it sticks to the top.  Then you open it and add your images to the swirl.  I actually sandwhiched two tennis balls together on each side of the spiral so you see a tennis ball from either side.

It turned out to be a fun card and I will be making some more.  Ryan’s tennis team is going to play in the State Tournament at the end of July.  I hope they do well.  But in any case I need to make a Thank You card for the team captain.

Have a great rest of your day!

Happy Birthday Ryan!

ryan

Ryan - 13 years old

Yesterday was Ryan’s 13th birthday!

Yep – I have THREE teenage boys!  Oh my!

ryan-cakeI made Ryan a Tennis Racket Cake and Tennis Ball cupcakes. Actually, my mom helped me with the cake.  She put on the frosting and did the writing.   He took about 2 dozen cupcakes to tennis camp.  And then my parents and Greg’s mom came for dinner and the cake.

I made Ryan a birthday card using the new Stampin’ Up! Pop-Up LOOK HERE die for the Big Shot.  The die creates the inside part of the card that is a pop-up with arrows and a gift card holder – all the arrows point to the gift card – as in “look here there is a gift card for you”.

You could just put a piece of card stock with a message right there too or a picture.  You could cut off the arrows and use them on cards or scrapbook pages.  This should be a fun die to play with.  Look-Here-Birthday

Here are pictures of the outside of the card and the inside.  The colors I used are Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White.

The stamp set is Party Hearty and I added orange beads from the Bead Duos to the cupcake for the sprinkles.  The way I did this was put a small puddle of Crystal Effects on a piece of scratch paper.  Use a straight pin or toothpick and pick up a tiny bit of Crystal Effects and put it on the stamped image where you want the bead.  I used a straight pin to grab a bead from the container and then placed it in the Crystal Effects on the card.  This was I don’t get too much Crystal Effects in places where I don’t want it.  You need a very small amount and it will hold the beads tight.  I used markers to ink the candle – Yep – the new In-Colors come in a set of markers this year!  A very popular request from both demonstrators and customers alike.  The arrow on the front is one of the punch outs from the Look Here die.  The actual cut of the die is on the inside of the card.look-here-birthday-inside

I did find a matching gift card.  Well actually I had my die-cut piece done in the Pumpkin Pie.  So when I looked for a gift card I found one with orange in it.  Then came home to make the card and Crushed Curry was the other color in the gift card so it worked out perfect.  It was a quick card that I made in just a few minutes.  I could have dressed it up but decided to keep it pretty simple.

The Happy Birthday stamp is one of the Under $10 stamps that were in the last catalog.  Most of these are still available to order they just aren’t shown in the new catalog.  I have been using this one  a lot.

Ryan is headed to California tomorrow with Greg’s mom.  Thank you to anyone that offered suggestions on places he should visit.  He has a long list. I have to finish getting him packed.

Have a great day!
