Berry Christmas

I’m back home – we drove all day today and we are home.  I had a couple of days without posting – one was Thanksgiving – we spent the day cooking, then eating and enjoying our time with family, then cleaning it all up, then getting it all out and eating some more.  We were all stuffed!  Friday the girls went shopping and most of the boys went to the battlefield for a hike.  Friday night we pulled out all the Thanksgiving left overs one more time.  And packed up so we could leave early this morning.  Aspen and Magnolia are VERY HAPPY to have us home and to be back in their own house instead of at the kennel.

Onto another card from my Holiday Card class – this is one my favorite cards.  The colors are Soft Suede, Old Olive, Ruby Red and Whisper White.  We received this stamp set from Stampin’ Up! at the Chattanooga Regional – it is called Berry Christmas from the Holiday mini catalog.  There was a card on one of the display boards that I took a photo of and created my version for my class – I stuck pretty close to the original because I just loved it.  I don’t know who the original creator was because we can’t see that on the display boards.  It might have been someone at the corporate office – I’m not sure.

Stampin’ Up Supplies:

  • Berry Christmas stamp set
  • Soft Suede card stock and ink and marker
  • Old Olive card stock and ink
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Ruby Red ink
  • Scallop edge punch
  • Linen thread
  • Earth Elements buttons
  • mini glue dots
  • stampin’ dimensionals
  • medium envelope

Thanks for stopping by today! I am thankful too for everyone that visits my blog, leaves me comments and sends me emails.  I’m thankful for Stampin’ Up! and all the friends I have made and the opportunities that I have had.  There is always something exciting around the corner and I can’t wait to share many more ideas and creations with you.

Winter Post Skaters

This is one of the cards that we made last week at my Holiday Big Shot class.  The top panel of the card is embossed using the Stapmin’ Up! exclusive Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  In my class photo you couldn’t really see the embossing but on this close-up photo you can.  The Designer Series paper is the Autumn Meadows paper from the Holiday mini – aren’t the blues and browns just gorgeous for a winter card!

I loved the end result of this with the softness of the Very Vanilla.  I did notice though that I didn’t finish watercoloring the card – oops.  I forgot to do her sweater and to add some color to his pants.  I guess I got distracted and thought I was done.  But you get the idea – the colors are Taken with Teal, Really Rust, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa and I used some Creamy Carmel too.  I stamped the skaters with Black StazOn ink and used my Aqua-painter to watercolor with my classic inks.

The greeting is from the stamp set Many Merry Messages.  It was one of the sets I selected for Free for winning the Stampin’ Up! Art Contest.  The full stamp says “Warmest greetings of the season and every good wish for the coming year.”  I stamped that on the inside of my card.  To get only the “Warmest greetings” on the front I stamped on scratch paper and punched out with the Word Window punch – but in order to not get the next word ‘of’ in there you have to punch it so the right side lines up on “greetings”.  But then it is off-center inside the word window which I didn’t like.  To fix that take it and slide it back in the punch on the left side and punch again just to the side of “Warmest” – it gives you a shorter word window.  I took that and layered it on the Modern Label.

I hope you like it!

I had a fun class this morning – the repeat of my Holiday Card Class – I’ll be posting those cards over the next week or so.  I’m off to run some errands now.

Happy Stampin’!

November Calender in My Digital Studio

After learning about calenders in Stampin’ Up!’s new My Digital Studio the other day I came up with an idea as I was preparing for my classes today.    I wanted to create a monthly calendar showing all my upcoming classes and events.  So yesterday I started to play and my idea came together – I finished up late – I should have been sleeping – but instead was on the computer adding more images to my calendar.  So here is what I came up with……..

class calendar-003

So what do you think?  I know when my kids were younger and I was room mom in their class I always made fun calendars to hand out of all the activities or volunteers that were scheduled.  This program would have been perfect for that.  I’m going to try to do this each month and post to my blog and send out on email to my newsletter list.

My Digital Studio has Calendar templates for 2010 and 2011 – you choose a Designer Template and it has the grid with the numbers along with the month and year.  The calendar Designer Templates aren’t “designed” with colors or images or anything else.  In order to create a 2009 month I just went and found a month that started on the same day as the one I was creating – then selected Insert Duplicate Page to make a copy of it.  Then I did my editing – by changing the month and year and deleting any extra days.  I added background paper and then my stamped images and embellishments.  I also added a piece of Whisper White card stock as a page layer so that I could size it and place it behind my grid so that all the calendar information was visible.  I used the new Medallion Digital Download – it is not included in the original My Digital Studio release but you can get it as a Digital Download for $1.95 – to add a background accent – I adjusted the opacity so it would just be a faint image in the background.

Fun, Fun!  Can you tell what colors I used – Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Old Olive, and Ruby Red – those are some of the colors I like to use for fall.  I’m almost finished with my certification.  Every time I play with I learn a little more…

Have a fun day!  I’ll be stamping the day away in my Holiday Card Making classes – so off to finish setting up for those.  Thanks for stopping by.

Stamping 411 Challenge

Finally – I made a card for the Stamping 411 challenge.  I think I participated the first 2 weeks when they started and then tried a couple more but kept missing the deadline.  I think this time I made it.  And I’m pleased with my card too.

I wanted to make a card to send to all the wonderful new ladies that I met this month either at events or workshops.  Just a little note to says thanks and to invite them to join me for stamping.  If you are one of those people and you gave me your mailing address – then you should be getting one in the mail soon.  As an added bonus this little card includes a special coupon for $5 off one of my stamping classes.  I have been thinking on this for a while but nothing popped into my head as being the right thing until I saw the sketch for this weeks 411 challenge.

ssc122 The sketch was a square card and while the measurements given on the blog – by the way it is here – were for a 5-1/4″ square card I had an idea…….

If I make a regular size card – 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ but here is the neat part – I’ll trim the front of the card to be a square – so 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ and leave the back with the extra 1-1/4″ showing and that piece becomes my class coupon!  I used the handy little perforating tool on the Cutter Kit to perforate that extra piece so that you can rip that part off to bring it back to me and still keep the little card.

I sketched it out on my grid paper last night and got to work – what stamp set and colors to use were my next decision – but that didn’t take long – I have had the “For All You Do” stamp set on my desk ready to work with and decided it would be perfect.  Colors – the Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive colors have been very appealing to me and in the front of the catalog where the color families are pictured they used these colors along with So Saffron – which is what I ended up with.  I created my flowers like they did on that sample.

So here is my creation…………….thank-you-coupon-card

I also used the Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder on the Rich Razzleberry card stock.  The embossing folders are so cool –  I hope Stampin’ Up! creates lots more.

The butterfly was inked with So Saffron ink and then I used the Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Write Marker to outline the edges of the wings and color the body before I stamped it on Whisper White card stock.  The Butterfly and flowers are all hand cut.  That’s the part that is taking me the longest.  I am in production mode so I have the different pieces of card stock cut and the images stamped and now I’m cutting all the flowers and butterflies before I put all the pieces together.  They should be going out in the mail tomorrow – I hope.

The coupon information was put on a label and I added a few stamped flowers.  This concept could be used for any kind of coupon – have the kids make mom or dad (or a grandparent) a personalized coupon card.  Or use the tear off part to make a little bookmark – just decorate to suit your need.

So I think it fits into the Stamping 411 challenge and it is perfectly suited to what I wanted to send out.  I hope everyone likes them.

Thanks for visiting today – go get creative!
