Hi everyone!
I have received quite a few questions about the two gift class projects that I posted the last few days. So I thought I would try to answer them today (hopefully I’ll get them all). And I have a few more pictures of the ornament. The original ornament post is here.
This is a better picture of it. One of the questions was to show the stand – here it is with the ornament in it. It is just a strip of card stock – I think mine was 7″ long and 3/4″ wide and then I punched it with a border punch. Here it is without the ornament resting in it.

Some asked if the snowflake was suspended from something – yes – I sandwiched a piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine between two snowflakes that I glued back to back. I tied the end of the twine to the cap of the ornament once I had it all together with the snowflake inside.
Many of you asked how did I get the darn thing in there – well that is the tricky part but it can be done. Carefully roll up the snowflake until you can fit it through the hole in the top of the ornament.

Poke it inside and then if you need to help it uncurl a bit use a pencil or something thin to carefully put in the hole and kind of flatten it out against the side of the ornament. Once you add the cap back on then tie the Baker’s Twine around it to keep it suspended in the ornament.
Hopefully that answered the questions about the ornament.
Now the candle. Here is the candle post. I don’t have any additional pictures for you but the way I make my candles is to use a piece of tissue paper (like you use to put in your gifts and gift bags) – I use plain white just one piece. Stamp my image on there. For this candle I colored with my Watercolor Wonder crayons directly on the tissue paper (no water) – just coloring like you did as a kid. Then what I think is the important part – tear away any extra tissue around the entire image. Don’t cut it. When you cut you leave a harsh edge and when you tear you leave a feathered edge which disappears into the candle. Now place the tissue paper on your candle – wrap a piece of wax paper (from the kitchen) around it and hold in the back like a handle. use the heat tool to heat the candle – you will see the tissue paper disappear into the candle – don’t stay too long in one spot though because you don’t want to actually melt your candle. Do that all the way around until you see only the image and not the tissue paper. Now pull off the wax paper and ta-da you have a pretty candle.
Have a good day – I plan to be back with the UDI Color Challenge next week – I did not participate this week. Too many thing going.

I am really in love with the Beautiful Season stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog. Probably because it has the bird on a branch. I thought it would be perfect for a Holiday candle. This was one of the projects for my Holiday Gift Making class. The little tag is tied on the wick and really adds a finishing touch to make this a nice gift for someone. I hope you like it.

I wanted to share a few tips on using the Glimmer Paper with the Northern Frost Decorative Strip Die for the Big Shot. The glimmer paper is a little different because it actually has a layer of plastic on the back which causes some problems with cutting detailed designs such as the snowflakes in the Northern Frost Decorative Strip Die. But the silver glimmer paper (and the red too) make such pretty snowflakes I really wanted to cut them easily so I played around with some different combinations until I found one that worked for me.
First one of the things that I have done with some of my sizzlits especially these strips that have lots of little details is I covered them with clear packing tape. So they look like this –
Can you see the tape on my die? Just put a piece of clear packing tape across the die and then cut like normal – the slick tape helps the little bits pop out of the holes instead of getting stuck in them. But that wasn’t the real problem with the glimmer paper. The real problem was getting a good cut through the plastic backing. So this is the sandwich that I found works the best for me and it was cutting the snowflakes through every time – even though it doesn’t look like it does initially.
So start on the bottom with the Decorative Strip Spacer Platform, next add the Decorative Strip Cutting Pad, then the Northern Frost Strip die (cutting blades face up), the glimmer paper (glimmer face up), then a piece of plain paper, then on top the second Decorative Strip Cutting Pad. Run this through the Big Shot to cut the snowflakes. When you get it out it will look like it didn’t cut when you see the glitter side of the paper but turn it over and look on the back and it looks like this –
Now push out the cut snowflake and then poke out all the little details with a paper piercer. I poke from the back since you can’t see them on the front.

And once you have all the little details poked through, pull them off and here it the pretty little snowflake that you get –

And here is a project I made with the glimmer snowflake –
A glass ornament. Inside the bottom are the Mica Flakes. The glimmer snowflake is hanging on the inside (two glued back to back). And ribbon on the top. Use a strip of card stock glued in a ring to make a base to set the ornament in. It’s very pretty in person.
You’ll find the Silver Glimmer paper and the Mica Flakes in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. You can order them on my website or send me an email.
We will be making these today in my gift making class.
Have a glimmery day!

For the last two months my Stamper’s Club girls have been working on their Advent Shadowbox Calendars. I took these pictures while they were working on the different parts. My original post for this project is HERE. I created this project for the UStamp with Dawn & Friends – I Heart the Holidays class.
I took pictures of all the girls working on their boxes. I had everything divided between two tables and half the group worked at each table. They started at the October Club meeting and then finished at the November Club meeting. Now I need to have them bring them in December so I can take pictures of their finished boxes.

It was a lot of work but I think everyone was very happy with the end result. I still have one more to finish that I’m giving to someone special. I didn’t have time to work on mine during the club meetings so I better get a move on.
Have a nice day – thanks for stopping by!

Nov 9, 2011 | Decor Elements, Holiday Gift Making, Holiday Mini catalog 2011 |
I haven’t used any of the Decor Elements pieces in a while and when Wendy sent these to me to create a project for my downline meeting I had to get creative with a quick idea. I headed to the store to see if I could find a frame or mirror to add the Happy Holidays Decor Elements label from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog to. I didn’t have any luck finding anything that would fit – the piece is 12-1/2″ wide and 6″ tall. So I walked around the store trying to come up with other ideas. First stop was the craft aisle and a stroll through the painting section where I came across some stretched canvas. At first I only saw large pieces or small ones but then looking on the lower shelves I finally found a rectangle canvas – it measured 7″ x 14″ – yeah! These were the perfect size. I put them in the cart, headed to check out and back home to quickly put something together.
I added some ribbon, snowflakes, buttons, stitched felt, bakers twine and jingle bells and look what they become –

The end result was a nice piece of holiday decor to display in your home for the holidays. The Happy Holidays Decor Elements is a two piece vinyl image but I only used the Real Red over lay and not the White oval since my canvas was already white. Because the canvas is stretched over a frame and has no support in the center I did place some of my Big Shot dies underneath the open space to create a hard surface that I needed to apply the vinyl piece to the canvas. Then it was just a matter of decorating.
I used the 1-1/4″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon – Wild Wasabi; I punched a snowflake from Shimmery White card stock with the Snowflake punch; the buttons are from the Holiday Berry Bouquet Designer Button collection – and they are tied on with Whisper White Baker’s Twine around the knot of the ribbon with the snowflake tucked behind it. On some of them I added Winter Wishes Stitched Felt piece – the little holly leaves and berries. And on some I tied the Mini Jingle Bells on the ends of the bakers twine.
This would also be a nice gift for the holidays. Enjoy!
