Mother’s Day – Take Two

I made a second version of this card that is perfect for Mother’s Day.

mothers-day-card-front

For this one I wanted to use the Watercolor Wonder Designer Paper.  I switched my neutral to Whisper White to coordinate with the paper and changed the card base to Smoky Slate.

For the Baker’s Twine – I actually decided there were several options –

  • use Whisper White – as is
  • use Whisper White – dye it Gumball Green – use a Stampin’ Sponge to hold the twine in the ink pad as you pull it across, repeat until the twine is the color you want it.  Let dry.
  • use the Island Indigo Baker’s Twine.

Don’t need a Mother’s Day card – then switch out the greeting to be a birthday card or thank you or whatever you might need.  Remember these items are on the retiring list or going away at the end of the Occasions catalog at the end of May –

  • Watercolor Wonder Designer Paper
  • Island Indigo Baker’s Twine
  • Itty Bitty Punch pack – that’s the center of the flowers
  • Gumball Green in-color

Starting Project Life

My Project Life by Stampin’ Up! products arrived late yesterday (Friday).  I had stamp club and briefly pulled them out to show everyone.  Today (Saturday) is actually National Scrapbook Day and I am spending some time this afternoon thinking about where to start. I’ve looked at Project Life from a distance – knowing that it wasn’t Stampin’ Up! Products not our colors, etc. I didn’t want to buy any of it.  But now….that’s not the case.  And I can dive right in!

First I pulled out all my new stuff to take a look at what I got….

Now what pictures should I start with.  The concept of Project Life is documenting your life – your everyday life – the stories and happenings that I think we actually missed before we had digital cameras.  Used to it cost money to take a photo and I think we were very careful about what we took a picture of – we (or at least I did) stuck to holidays, birthdays, significant life events but not really some of the everyday stuff.  But when I think about the stories that I tell they are often the very things I didn’t ever take a picture of.  I have lots of funny stories about my boys but really no pictures to go with them.  Kyle disassembled the high chair when he was about 3, Tyler fell asleep in a bowl of spaghetti, Ryan when he broke his tooth.  These were before we had the digital cameras and I don’t have pictures!  But I wish I did now.

So I need to jump right in.  All in I think is the way to do it. And I think my life is boring and I wouldn’t have much to write about from week to week.  But I sat down and looked at my week.  There really were a bunch of note worthy things and when I look at my iPhone I have many pictures from this week and even have some on my big camera too.  That’s it.  I’m in!!

I have a Walgreen’s app on my phone that lets me send the pictures right from there to them to print in about 1 hour!  I selected 18 photos and they are printing NOW!.  We are going to dinner and I’ll pick them up on the way home.  And when I get back I plan to document this week!  I’m so excited!

Hey There

I think the Just Sayin’ Stamp set and the Word Bubble Framelits are a fun combination from the Occasions catalog.  This Pinterest inspired card is one that the girls made at my team meeting this past weekend.  Literally something I threw together at the last minute (they laugh at me for that).

hey-there-word-bubble

This is how I made it –

  • The card base is Bermuda Bay.
  • For the Whisper White layer place it on the cutting mat on top of the Magnetic Platform and then add the word bubble framelits – I used 3 different ones.  Run it through the Big Shot to cut.  Set the cut pieces aside and use on another project – for this one we are using the negative piece.
  • I cut pieces of the Kaleidoscope Designer paper – I think mine were 2″ x 3″ pieces.  glue them to the back behind each of the cut holes.  Where the paper extends out beyond the edge of the white – trim – these will be the pieces that get layered on the front – and I did not worry about them being straight or perfect at all.  They were what they were.
  • Layer the White on a piece of Basic Black and add to the card base.
  • I hand drew the lines/dots around the cut outs.
  • Add the leftover strips to the front – I used the opposite sides from what I used in the word bubbles.
  • I stamped the Hey There on another piece of White and cut it.  Alternately you could use one of the shapes that you cut out and try to line the stamp up – or stamp it before you cut and that would save paper – unless you want a different shape.  Add to front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Add some coordinating Candy Dots – for this one I used Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo.

Starburst Technique

Do you like to try new techniques?  At my team meeting this past weekend the theme for our swap was to try a technique that was featured in one of the past Stampin’ Success magazines (that is the magazine that all Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators receive).  I decided to try one called the Starburst technique that I had seen a few months ago.

It just so happened that I already had a spritzer bottle filled with Crushed Curry ink (and alcohol) so I thought I would play with that to begin with.  And that made me think of sunrays and being happy which made me think of the phrase Cheer Up buttercup in the Geometrical stamp set.  Now I feel like I’m tell the “when you give a pig a pancake” story….. well maybe not.

starburst-swapI was pleased with how it turned out.  So let me tell you how I made it.

  • Create a starburst mask.  I used a piece of the cardboard that comes in the back of our Designer Paper.  First I cut it to be slightly larger than my white card stock.  I found something on my table that was round and traced it.  Then used a ruler and drew lines through the circle.  Then I cut out every other wedge up to my circle.  Here is what my mask looks like – starburst-template
  • I laid the mask on top of my Whisper White card stock and then spritzed it with the Crushed Curry in my spritzer bottle.  I aimed towards the center because I wanted it darker near the center and light out near the edges like a starburst/sunray.
  • While the mask was still on I stamped the dots on there using the Gold Encore ink.  The dots are from the Happy Watercolor stamp set.  Then I moved the mask.
  • I stamped the greeting “Cheer up Buttercup” also in the Gold Encore ink.
  • I tied a piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine around the White layer before adding it onto a Crushed Curry card base.
  • To finish I added a punched Butterfly.  It’s the Elegant Butterfly punch and the Eastern Elegance designer paper.  I added a Vintage Faceted button that I tied with some of the gold thread that I pulled off the Gold Baker’s Twine.
  • It’s bright and cheerful!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Oh and I got to look in on my bluebird today.  I thought she had laid 5 eggs and when I checked today – there are 6!!  It’s going to be one crowded nest box with 6 babies in there.  I have  a picture on my Facebook page.

Monday was a busy day

Well Monday turned out to be a busy day!  Right after I finished my blog post yesterday I left the house – met my friend Diane – and then headed to lunch with a few other Stampin’ Up! demonstrators to be part of a Focus Group.  We were treated to a delicious lunch – family style at Maggianno’s – and discussed our topic.  I think when it was all said and done we were there for about 3 hours.  Diane and I walked around the mall – the restaurant is attached to the mall.  And slowly made our way over to the pizza place were we were meeting 23 other Stampin’ Up! demonstrators for dinner.  That was fun!

Following dinner we headed to the movie theater and waited patiently for the Stampin’ Up! Catalog Premiere!  I believe there were about 150 of us in this theater but total across the country there were over 7600 demonstrators.  We were all ready to watch a live-streaming video of the new annual catalog premiere.   I thought it was a great event and an exciting way to introduce the Stampin’ Up! catalog.  I sure hope that Stampin’ Up! does this again.

We were there for 2-1/2 hours as the Stampin’ Up! staff showed us the new catalog, new stamp sets and products and made us laugh.  They were live in California.  As we left we got our brand new 2014-2015 Stampin’ Up! Annual catalog!!  Plus a brand new stamp set!  And a few people even won prize patrols.  One of my downline Cindy won the first prize patrol – so exciting!  And I can show you the front of the catalog!  Are you ready?

10151898_10152495490617189_7959032376709229676_nYou might just be able to find some new things shown on the cover…… and you might really want to be part of my Stamper’s Club and come to my house for the meeting this weekend – Friday night or Saturday morning – just sayin’!
