Flying lessons going on in the backyard

I have another bluebird update for you.  I knew it would be any day that the baby bluebirds would fledge and as it turned out it was today – Saturday morning!  I let Aspen out this morning and noticed the mom and dad bluebird chasing everybody out of the yard – the other birds and they even flew after Aspen.  I noticed something rustling in the bushes so I got Aspen back in grabbed the camera and started watching.  There was a little baby behind the bushes – she must have been the slow learner – so I spent the next little while watching her as she tried to fly.  Here are some pictures.

New Bluebird Pictures

I sat outside today for a long time so that I could take pictures of the Bluebirds.  The babies are big and just about ready to leave.  I can’t open the nest box anymore to look inside so these are all from outside.  I got some good ones though.  I hope you like them.

I thought I got some great pictures today.  They were pretty active.  Dad seemed to sit nearby keeping an eye on things – either on the fence, in a nearby tree or on top of the house.  Mom seemed to be the one going and getting all the food.  And those babies are almost ready to leave the nest.  It should be any day now.  I actually saw both mom and dad checking out the other two bird houses in the yard today.  They are already thinking about that next nest and another set of babies.  Busy busy!

Hi little ones

I got another picture of the baby bluebirds yesterday – March 30th –

4babies-3-30

I for sure see 4 babies – there were 5 eggs originally, so the 5th one could be hidden in the pile or perhaps the egg didn’t hatch.  Hopefully a future photo will show the 5th baby.  I’ll try to get another photo today and if I do it will be posted on my Facebook page.

Today I have a sweet little project to share combining the Spiral Flower die from the Occasions catalog and the Banner Blast set from the Sale-A-Bration brochure.  By the way today – Monday, March 31st is the LAST day to place an order or join and take advantage of the Sale-A-Bration specials – free items for each $50 you spend, if you join and extra $25 in your starter kit!  You can order or join directly from my website – click here – click SHOP or JOIN.

So here is my little project –

flower-popAren’t these the cutest little flower pops!  Once you get the hang of it they are pretty quick to make – cut the spiral flower on the Big Shot and then you roll it up – and it works so much better if you use some craft tweezers to do the twirling.

flower

The Pansy punch is what I used for the leaves.  Punch a hole in the center of the pansy and also in the little tab end of the spiral flower – that’s where the stick of the lollipop goes through – if you push those over the base of the wrapper they will stay put.

To finish this cute little treat I added the tag from the Banner Blast set.

  • Stamp the Hi image in Primrose Petals – by the way I used Primrose Petals Coordinations card stock for the flower
  • Punch it out with the banner punch
  • Punch a small hole in the corner
  • Then tie it on with the twine from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory pack

Fun treat to give all your friends this spring!

There is new life in the yard!

I wanted to update you on the baby bluebirds.  They hatched!

This picture is from Thursday – March 27th.

new born babies 3-27

Mom was keeping them warm most of the day and dad was flying around peeking in the house.  It reminded me of what an expectant father would be doing. Pacing around outside and then looking in – “are they here yet?”  I watched for them both to leave so I could sneak in and snap a quick picture.

And look at the change in just one day – their little necks are now lifting those heads and they are opening those big beaks!

Theses two pictures are from today Friday March 28th.  The babies will change a lot and I’m to keep taking pictures of them for the next few days until I leave to go on a scrapbook crop for a long weekend.  I’ll be posting daily on Facebook but probably won’t post these pictures every day to my blog.  So if you aren’t already you may want to LIKE my Facebook Business page – Stamping Together at Monika’s Place.  According to Facebook my next milestone is to get 500 likes – are you one of them already?  If not hop on over and get yourself on their.  I do post stuff to Facebook that doesn’t get posted on my blog.

On another note today is the first day of Ryan’s spring break.  Well his really started VERY EARLY this morning!  At 4AM!  He is going with the high school band to Hawaii!  and I dropped him off at the school at 4 AM for a LIMO ride to the airport!  How jealous am I!!  He gets to go to Hawaii before me and ride in a limo before me.  How did that happen?

ryan limo to hawaii

When we first planned this trip I assumed the whole group was leaving from the school.  Boy was I surprised when they told us we had to meet them at the airport at 5 AM on Friday morning – yikes!  So when another mom volunteered to set up a limo service to take some of the kids – I was the first one to say “I’m in!.  So it turned out 6 of them went in style arriving at the airport in a LIMO – now that is one way to start spring break your senior year of high school.  They are now on a plane flying to Hawaii – about another hour or so and they should be landing.

Thanks for stopping by!

Ready for Spring? The birds are!

Normally I blog about the birds each spring.  I have Eastern Bluebirds that nest each year in my back yard and raise their family.  They seem to return every year.  I’m a little behind on sharing with you here on my blog.  I did share some on my Facebook page – it’s pretty easy to take a photo inside the bird house with my iphone and then post to Facebook.  The pictures of the birds I take with my Cannon Rebel XTI and apparently I haven’t downloaded photos from there in a while which means I haven’t shared them either.  Yesterday I downloaded all the photos – over 500 – of various things from the last year.  And today I’m going to share some bird pictures with you.  I’m so ready for spring and they are too!

Our Thanksgiving Visitor

As we finished eating our Thanksgiving meal we had a visitor come to the backyard.

hawk-7There was a hawk sitting on the fence rail.  And he was there for a long time.  He was over by the driveway so I grabbed my camera and snuck out the front door and quietly went around the house to where he was.

hawk-6I carefully approached him while I took pictures until we just had one car between us.  I guess I was a bit to close and he hopped from the rail up to the post at the corner.

hawk-4

Then he got comfortable again lifting up one leg and tucking it under his body.  He sat there for some time and finally flew up into one of the trees.  I did get a lot of great pictures.

hawk-3

hawk-2I’m pretty sure this is a Cooper’s Hawk.  And I believe that he (I guess it could be a she) has been in this area for several years.  I see him periodically but never has he stayed so long – usually he just passing through our yard.

I hope you enjoy these photos.
