Cards for Weddings

I’m continuing to share with you from our STARZ meeting last weekend.  I asked several of the girls to bring a make&take project for everyone and I have two I’m going to show today.  I decided that both of these would be perfect for Wedding Cards.  I know for me I had my wedding on my mind during this time of year.  Our wedding anniversary is next week on July 22nd.  It will be our 21st anniversary!  And I will be in Salt Lake City at the Stampin’ Up! convention.  I told Greg to make sure he went out and played golf that day.

So on to the cards to show you.  The first is a wedding card that Cindy brought and you can find out more about it on her blog – click here.  She got the idea from another demonstrator and added her own little touch to it – the flower bouquet.  We decided the new rhinestones and pearls that are in the new catalog would work well on this card too for adding bling to the dress.

This card was not very hard to make – it is a regular sized card but scored a bit different.  There are two sides that fold in to meet in the center.  Then one side is decorated as the groom in his tux and the other is the bride in her dress.  When you close the card they are standing next to each other with the brides dress overlapping the front of the card.  I’m sure that I will use this idea again when I need a wedding card.  We used the Trio Flower punch to make the bouquet and it was one of the punches that retired.  But any flower ideas would work.  I’m so glad that Cindy shared this with us and that we all got to actually make it.

This next card is another share that Michelle brought for us to make.  She taught us how to make these beautiful rose buds using the Two-Step Bird punch.  It really is the bird punch – can you believe it!

Michelle does not have a blog yet but you can see another one of her projects this month on the Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator website in the Online Extras for the Monthly art contest – she didn’t win but she got an Honorable Mention.  She does some beautiful work with sponging and shading on her projects that really make things look real.

I think this card could also be used as a wedding card and you could even adjust the colors of the card and rose buds to match the wedding colors.  This card took some time punching out the various pieces, shading them all with the sponge dauber and then glueing them together.  When working with little pieces like these I prefer to use a pair of craft tweezers and a 2-way glue pen.

The ideas from these cards could also be used on a scrapbook page for a wedding – you could create a bouquet of roses if you spent some time with it.  Thank you to both of them for sharing their ideas with our group.

Here is my convention prep work update – I have 2 more full days to work on stuff and then I leave on Tuesday!

Shoebox swap – 49 cards – designed, cut, all the kits are assembled and I have 24 assembled with just one more step to finish on most of them – and then I need to make one more – I was supposed to have 25.  Then I need to pack the supplies to make the kits and I will be done – so Almost Done.

UDI card swap – 19 cards – designed, cut and needs to be assembled

UDI 3-D swap – I only have to make 1!  And I know what it is just need to decide if I want to give away my sample or make a new one.

General swap 1 – 25 card fronts – All DONE

General swap 2 – 25 card fronts – All DONE

General swap 3 – 25 card fronts – I have an idea in mind, I just need to work on it – this may not get done at all.

General swap 4 – 25 card fronts – I realized I started cutting for a swap, used part of it for my STARZ swap this weekend, but I think I want to redesign this because I wasn’t completely happy with it, so I need to work with what I already cut

Friend gifts – planning to make some amount of something to give to friends I see

Roommate gifts – 3 – designed

Well I better go get busy – I still have lots to do!

New Owl Punch

This past weekend we had the STARZ group meeting at my house.  Everyone brought swaps and we also made several projects.  I wanted to share some of those with you.  This little swap caught my eye as soon as Danette walked in the door –

Is this not the cutest thing?

This is the new Owl Punch from Stampin’ Up! and Danette created this little bookmark using a jumbo paper clip – I forgot to ask her where she found the blue clips.  I don’t have it right in front of me but that must be the new Marina Mist color that she used.  There are lots of new Designer Series papers and I still need to learn what they are and what patterns they include so I’m not sure where the striped paper is from just now.

The punch cuts all of those pieces for you – I’m sure this is going to be popular – especially with the Late Night Stampers group since that is their mascot.

My punch finally arrived in my new order this week but I have yet to play with it.  I decided that it is going to be quite popular on swaps this year so I decided not to use it for mine.  Speaking of which here is my convention preparation update for today:

Shoebox swap – 49 cards – designed, cut, now half need to be assembled and the other half will be kits to be assembled at the swap.

UDI card swap – 19 cards – designed, cut and needs to be assembled

UDI 3-D swap – I only have to make 1!  And I know what it is just need to decide if I want to give away my sample or make a new one.

General swap 1 – 25 card fronts – designed, cut and half are assembled

General swap 2 – 25 card fronts – designed, cut, and all are assembled – DONE

General swap 3 – 25 card fronts – I have an idea in mind, I just need to work on it

So that is where things stand and I better keep working to get it all done.  There were a few changes – I mostly worked on the UDI card swap today.  I plan to take some of the pieces with me tomorrow when Kyle and I head to Georgia Tech for a 2-day orientation.  If I have down time I’ll work on my swaps there.

Thanks for checking in – I’ll be back tomorrow.

Paper Flowers

At our weekend at Wendy’s we made some wonderful projects.  Today I want to show you the paper flowers we learned to make.  This was the project that Michelle Scileppi designed – she always creates beautiful projects.

We made three flowers – the purple one is the Scallop Circle Punch, the yellow on is the large Star punch and the Red one is the Five Petal Flower punch.  For each one we punched 5 layers.  Then we sprayed them with water and wadded them up.  Next we un-wadded (that probably isn’t a word but oh well) them and layered them together.  Then we stuck them on a piece of floral wire.

Now the work is forming all the petals so they look like flowers.  Michelle’s looked just like real flowers.  Mine don’t look quite that good – more like little squished flowers but you get the idea.  The little pom-poms were glued in after the paper dried.

It is a cute little project and would be fun for little center pieces at a special spring event.  She also showed us one made with the small daisy flower from the Daisy#2 Big Shot die.  I want to try to make one of those – but haven’t done it yet.

I hope you have a flower filled day!

I’m a Guest Designer at  Create with Connie & Mary: Summer Edition – its not too late to join!

Punch Art – Eagle Scout

I made this card earlier this month.  I actually made two – one to send to a family friend for earning his Eagle Scout rank and the other I sent in to a contest for the Utah Divas International group.  I had to wait until the contest was over before I could show it to you.  My Eagle Scout did not win the contest – so now I can share him with you.

He was based on the UPS man that Ellen Kemper created but I turned him into an Eagle Scout – with the proper scout salute (I hope it was right – I probably used the wrong hand – I should have looked that up).

The base of the card is Ruby Red with a Chocolate Chip layer that was textured with the Big Shot – this texture plate is in the Texture Plates Kit #4 and looks like wood grain.  It worked perfectly for this card.

Here are a list of the Stampin’ Up! Punches that I used to create my Eagle Scout:

  • Head – Ornament Punch
  • Hair – Ornament Punch
  • Ears – Word Window Punch
  • Neck – Word Window Punch
  • Eyes – small heart on the Heart to Heart punch (white) and 1/4″ circle
  • Nose – 1/4″ circle
  • Shirt – 1-1/4″ Square punch, Large Star for the neck opening, small oval for sleeves
  • Collar – small heart on the Heart to Heart punch
  • Neckerchief – slot punch and 1/8″ circle
  • Merit Badge Sash – Word Window punch
  • Shoulder Loops – slot punch
  • Arms – Heart to Heart punch – wide heart
  • Hands – Trio Flower, Snowflake
  • Belt – My Way Punch
  • Pants – 1-1/4″ square and large star
  • legs – word window
  • boots – butterfly punch, slot punch

I think I listed them all.  I hope you enjoy the punch art!

Easter Bunny

Can you  believe Easter is only 2 weeks away?!?

  • Knock, knock.
    Who’s there?
    Ether.
    Ether, who?
    Ether Bunny.

Spring is well on its way but we had snow flurries this morning in Georgia!

  • Knock, knock.
  • Who’s there?
  • Another.
  • Another, who?
  • Another Ether Bunny.

I wanted to share this cute swap card I received at the Starz meeting from Linda B.  She has solved your problem of not having an Easter stamp set by creating an Easter Bunny out of punches.

  • Knock, knock.
    Who’s there?
    Stella.
    Stella, who?
    Stella ‘nother Ether Bunny!

And Linda was so nice she even listed all the punches on the back of the swap so I can share that with you too.  She used the Small Oval, Large Oval, Wide Oval, 1-1/4″ circle.

  • Knock, knock.
  • Who’s there?
  • Consumption.
  • Consumption, who?
Consumption be done about all these Ether Bunnies.

Here are the rest of the Stampin’ Up! supplies – Close to Cocoa ink (for sponging the punched pieces and drawing the face); Close to Cocoa, Pretty in Pink and Whisper White card stock; Tea Party Designer Series paper (for the ears, paws and the background); Chocolate Chip 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon; Black brads for the eyes; pink brad for the nose.

She did add a little bit of pink ink to make the cheeks – while I don’t know for sure how she did it my guess is that she used the eraser end of a pencil dipped in the ink to make the little cheeks – that’s how I would have done it.

  • Knock, knock.
    Who’s there?
    Cargo.
    Cargo, who?
Cargo “beep beep” and run over all those Ether  Bunnies?

I just had to throw in those Easter Bunny Knock Knock jokes.  When Kyle was in cub scouts years ago they would do skits on stage for their meetings and I remember one year they did jokes so he and another boy did these knock knock jokes and everyone just laughed at these Easter bunny ones. And the last one…..

Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Boo.
Boo, who?
Don’t cry.  Ether Bunny be back next year!

There are actually a couple more in the series but I thought I better stop before I really scare everyone away.  Have a great day the Ether Bunny is on his way!

And More Green…

Yesterday I showed my treats that I took to my Pokeeno friends last night.  Everyone also brings a $10 gift and those become the prizes for each game that we play.  So today I wanted to share what I brought for my gift.

It was a Leprechaun and his pot of gold!  I went to the bank and got 10 $1 gold coins – remember those – they came out several years ago and I’m not sure anybody ever spends them – the grocery stores didn’t have any but the bank did.

The Leprechaun idea came from Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Ellen Kemper’s blog – if you haven’t seen her blog she has some absolutely amazing punch art characters including lots of pointy chinned people as she calls them.  To create mine I just looked at her photo so I’m not positive I used exactly the same punches that she did – some are obvious and others I guessed.  I did add the beard which she didn’t have on hers.  The colors I used were Green Galore, Really Rust, with Basic Black, More Mustard and Garden Green for the accents.  The box he is on is the Fancy Favor box – the die for the Big Shot.  The bag of gold coins fit inside the box.

So let me see if I can tell you what each piece is – here it goes:

  • Head – ornament punch
  • Ears & Nose – 1/2″ circle
  • Eyes – 1/8″ circle and smallest heart on Heart to Heart punch
  • Hat – 1-3/8″ circle and the word window
  • Hair – scallop oval
  • Beard – scallop circle
  • Body – wide oval – one cut in half glued on the second one
  • Belt – word window, short word window, horizontal slot
  • Arms – small oval and wide oval – cut in half on the short side
  • Legs – small oval and wide oval – cut in half on the long side
  • shoes – butterfly punch, cut in half then cut with circle punch
  • buttons on shoes – small punch on crop-a-dile

I think that is all the pieces of the leprechaun – i wanted him to match the little treats from yesterday so I used the green galore.  Other wise I think I would have used a different green.

It was fun!  Now you have a few ideas for St. Patricks day if you need them.

Oh – Tyler’s finger is now in a custom made splint and he needs to keep it straight for the next 3 weeks – it was called a Volar Plate Fracture.  So he’s good – no big deal.
