Apr 17, 2010 | family, Graduation, Summer Mini 2010 |
My oldest son, Kyle, happens to be graduating this year from High School. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments. So when I saw the new Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini Catalog and that it had a graduation stamp set I knew I would have to get it. It came in my order a few days ago.
And earlier this week I saw the sketch challenge on the Pals Paper Arts blog and all I could think of was the line of graduates would be perfect for piece 2 on this sketch. So yesterday afternoon I pulled out my new stamp set and started to play with it and this sketch.
Here is what I ended up with. I actually turned the card for the sketch because I wanted to see more of the graduates on that strip.
This is the new stamp set Go, Graduate that you will be able to order beginning May 1st. I really wish it was available now since our graduation is in May. I ended up actually ordering the graduation announcements through the school so I’ll use the stamp set to make invitations for a party and cards for friends and other graduates.
Our high school colors are blue and yellow – for my card I used Brilliant Blue and Summer Sun – which unfortunately are retiring colors. I guess I need to stock up on some card stock since I have 2 more that will graduate from the same school. I could probably use Pacific Point for the blue instead – I’ll have to get out the colors to compare.
The background is Basic Black – stamped with VersaMark ink and embossed with Clear Embossing powder. I really like doing this with black card stock just to give it a little character. I also added a panel on the inside since you can’t really see if you write on black card stock.
I’m not actually sure if the caps are yellow or not – we pick those up the first week of May – since I haven’t been to a graduation at the school I don’t really know what color the caps and gowns are. So on my card the caps are yellow.
I wanted to share a little bit more about Kyle – he is a senior this year but rather than taking his classes at the high school he participated in a Joint Enrollment program at Kennesaw State University and took all his classes there. He was awarded the Outstanding Student Award for this year and we went to an Awards ceremony right before Easter where they honored the top graduating senior and grad student in every major at the school – it was a big deal.

It was the Kennesaw State University – University Scholars 2010 Awards Ceremony. Kyle was the second award to be given during the ceremony so he is right in the front of the program.
I actually mentioned this in a post earlier but not everyone saw it so here it is again.
Kyle was accepted into Ga Tech in the College of Computing.
Last week he received an invitation to go to campus so he will do that this weekend – drop off on Sunday afternoon and then pickup on Monday afternoon. He’ll get the chance to sit in on some classes, eat lunch with the faculty, stay on campus with a student. I hope he is excited. I’m excited for him. If you knew Kyle you would know he is very quiet and doesn’t say a lot or get excited over much – I guess it is all inside.
Thanks for stopping in today.

Here is another card from my Birds & Butterflies class last month. This is a gorgeous bird house card designed by my friend and fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator Michelle Sclippei – she is so creative.
The card base is So Saffron card stock with a piece of Sweet Pea Designer Series paper on the front – a hole punched for the bird which has been sponged with Chocolate Chip ink.
The roof top is Old Olive which was run through the Big Shot with the new Dots Embossing Folder – and then sponged around the edges. The roof trim is the new Scallop Trim Border punch.
The front is decorated with leaves from the two-step bird punch and butterflies from the Beautiful Wings embosslit. A very creative card!
Speaking of birds – I took a picture of the bluebird nest the other day with 4 eggs –
I’m not sure if she was done. Bluebirds normally lay 4 or 5 eggs. When I get back home I’ll check.
And then a quick
picture showing the mountain view from our deck. I need to remember to get some sunrise pictures in the morning.
I’m off to check on Greg who is down by the fire-pit – he and the boys built a fire a little while ago. And then we’ll be starting dinner.
Have a nice weekend.

Apr 5, 2010 | Easter, family, Wildlife |
I found some special eggs on Easter morning – two Blue Bird Eggs in the nest –
She must have laid the first one on Saturday because there weren’t any on Friday. So there should be another today – they normally 1 egg each day – and usually 4 or 5 total. Early this morning there were still only 2.
I got this picture of them to0 – the female was inside the house and the male was fluttering around outside. I’m not quite sure what she was saying to him – maybe “I’m busy right now dear you need to come back later….”
I did see a Tufted Titmouse going into the other house – here is a picture of the nest they are building –
It has moss, and leaves and a little bit of trash in there – a plastic wrapper of some type. I can’t tell if there are any eggs in it – I wasn’t tall enough to see over the edge of the cup and I couldn’t get the house loose to lower it on the pole.
I thought I would also share some pictures from Easter – I made the big kids hunt eggs too – so Tyler 16 and Kyle 18 hunted along with the younger ones.

This was before they started - bucket heads!
And then I wanted to show you my Hummingbird Cake – I added the Chocolate Bunny decoration to it. The same as the little M&Ms treats I just put this on on a craft stick and stuck it in the center of my cake.
I hope you had a Happy Easter. We sure did and the weather was just perfect. The food was incredible and way more than any of us needed. What a wonderful family to be a part of!

I hope your St. Patrick’s Day has been good and green! I started to put on a blue shirt this morning and then remembered I better wear green. Ryan had a band performance today during school so they had to wear their band attire and it is not green. So we used a piece of green ribbon and tied it around his wrist.
Here is a quick project that we made at the STARZ group meeting the other weekend.
It is a pin that you could attach to your shirt or bag. This one was made out of a variety of green fabric prints. These were cut using the Big Shot die cut machine and the Circles #2 Originals die. Then you just layer various circles, add a piece of green touelle, and a clear button to the center and sew it with some green thread. On the back add a pin back and there you have a quick little project. Or put it on a headband or pony tail holder or add it to a key chain.
For a different holiday use different fabrics. The Big Shot can cut several layers of fabric at the same time – depending on the thickness you can cut as many as 8 layers at the same time.
And look what we have flying outside the house –
the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets flag. Kyle finally heard from them – it was a long wait at least for me – and he was accepted. Yeah! We are very proud of him!
Now we have to figure out what all he has to do next.
Today was also the day we picked up graduation announcements – I did order the formal printed announcements from the school. I plan to make invitations for a little celebration – he won’t want very much but we’ll doing something anyway. We are already half way through March – so May will be here before we know it.
Smiles!

Yesterday was Prom! This was our first experience with the prom – Tyler (my junior) went with his girlfriend, Haley. Kyle, who is a senior, has opted not to go to prom either of the last two years. So we experienced our first Prom with Tyler yesterday. Or I guess the preparation for the Prom – we didn’t actually go!
Mother Nature was nice enough to give us a break from the rain so we could get some pictures taken outside at Woodstock City Park – it rained earlier in the day and later in the evening but not while we were outside. The park was crowded – apparently a popular place for prom pictures. I thought I would share a few pictures of them.

Aren’t they cute?
If you came by to see a stamping project I am writing another post now so it will be up in a few minutes.
Thanks for stopping by!

Mar 10, 2010 | Big Shot, family, Rock 'n Roll, Wildlife |
I would have thought in March it would be easy to find green candy – especially jelly beans since Easter is coming soon. But no – it took some searching. I guess I should have bought some of those green M&Ms they had at Valentine’s Day (not sure what those were about) but I wasn’t thinking about St. Patrick’s Day then. I’ll have to remember that for next year. So I finally found Key Lime Jelly Beans – there are green and white ones in the bags.
Here are the little treats I made – this idea came from Julie Grenier. Aren’t they the cutest? I made some Easter ones (and will be making lots more before Easter), but yesterday I made some for St. Patrick’s Day. These are for my friends tonight that I’ll see at our St. Patrick’s Day themed Pokeeno night.
This project fits the Paper Pals challenge this week (at least I think it does) – it is a color challenge – to use Green – the color combo there is Garden Green, Certainly Celery and Kraft. Mine is similar – I used Garden Green, Green Galore and Whisper White.
The little shamrocks are stamped with the Rock ‘n Roll technique – I inked it with Green Galore and then rolled the edges in Garden Green before stamping. That gives it some variation in color which I like.
Stampin’ Up! Supplies are:
- Garden Green card stock, ink and marker
- Green Galore card stock and ink
- Whisper White card stock
- Holiday Blitz stamp set
- Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set
- Scallop Circle Punch
- 1-1/4″ Circle Punch
- 1″ Circle Punch
- white gel pen
- Modern Label punch
- Big Shot die cut machine
- Movers & Shapers Die and modern label shape die
- 1/16″ punch
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Apple Green grosgrain ribbon (retired)
Non-SU supplies are the 1×8 clear bags, white crochet thread, and jelly beans.
I just wanted to give you a few other updates – one is a bird update – yesterday the Bluebirds started building a nest in House #3. The female was bringing in pinestraw and was working it around inside the house – she only got a little done. Today it is pouring (really pouring) rain so I don’t know if she’ll work on it today. The other two houses in the yard are empty.
Second is a Tyler update – we picked up his tux for the prom yesterday – after we went to get x-rays of his finger. Yep for the first time in forever the boys were outside throwing a football and Tyler jammed his finger. Turns out his pinky finger on his left hand is broken. We have an appointment with an orthopedic hand specialist today. I don’t think it is bad but I guess I’ll know more after the appointment this afternoon. Hopefully he can still play his horn because the band has a concert performance next week.
Thanks for stopping by today! Maybe all this rain will help everything around here turn green – like the grass and the trees…..I’m ready for spring. My daffodils are coming up they should be popping their blooms soon.
