Holiday This & That Planner

Holiday-Planner

Have you seen the Season of Style This & That Planner in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog?

I wasn’t sure about it just looking at it in the catalog.  But I bought one any way and it is really nice!!  I’m so glad I got it.  I’m working on filling in my calendars – there are 4 months – that gives me Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan!  Or you could start with Nov and go through Feb.  Or use it for more than one year – Nov/Dec for 2013 and Nov/Dec for 2014.  You can customize it for the way you want to use it.

At the Stamp, Scrap & Create Retreat one of the optional projects was to decorate this planner – since the inside already has all the pre-printed pages we just added the decorations to the front cover.  This design was based on the one shown at Convention over the summer.

Here is what was added to decorate the cover –

  • a piece of the Season of Style Designer Paper stack
  • a Cherry Cobbler piece cut with the large scallop circle in the Circles Framelits die set
  • Cherry Cobbler’s Bakers Twine tied around the cover and into a large loopy bow – TIP – cut a notch on the side of the cover to slide the twine into so it doesn’t slip out of place.
  • a half-piece of the Season of Style Designer Paper stack – cut into a flag
  • three paper doilies layered together
  • Expressions Thinlits “Merry” cut from Gumball Green card stock – TIP – use wax paper between the die and the card stock and run it back and forth a few times to get a really good cut on all the details
  • a bitty star punch of Cherry Cobbler card stock with a small rhinestone
  • a banner stamped with the word “Christmas”

And I thought I would list for you what all the pages are inside the journal.

  • a pocket page – with 2 envelopes
  • calendar section – with 4 months of calendars
  • cards section – 4 pages for card lists and 4 grid pages for designing the cards
  • decor section – 6 grid pages for design ideas
  • gifts & packaging section – 4 pages for family gifts and 2 grid pages, 2 pages for friend gifts and 2 grid pages, 2 pages for neighbors & such gift ideas and 2 grid pages
  • Entertaining section – guests, menu, to do and shopping lists for 3 events plus grid pages for each
  • a pocket page

All the pages are thick and sturdy and the front and back cover are chipboard.

Get it soon and put it to use!  You can order it in my online store along with the coordinating Washi Tape and Stickers.

Mosaic Madness – Christmas in June!

Christmas in June!

So when I look at the Mosaic Madness stamp set I see some Christmas ornaments in there.  All I needed to do was use colors that are for Christmas and then I can make Christmas cards in June or July.  When we first got our glimpse of the new annual Stampin’ Up! catalog the big thing that was missing was the section for Holiday stamp sets.  Oh no!  But don’t despair they are coming in their very own Holiday catalog – it will be here soon – ordering starts August 1st.  So if you can’t wait until August to start Christmas cards then use this idea and start in July (or in June).

Mosaic Madness Christmas

The card layout idea came from another demo – I found it on pinterest and saw it also on Stampin’ Connection (a site for demonstrators).  I wanted Christmas colors so I chose Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake.

  • card base is crumb cake
  • on the Very Vanilla layer stamp the banner image (not sure what to call it) using Crumb Cake ink near the bottom, near the top punch out a Mosaic shape – then layer the Very Vanilla on Gumball Green which will show through the punched out area
  • on a small Very Vanilla layer use the Big Shot to emboss with the Mosaic Madness embossing folder, punch out one section with the Mosaic punch and layer on a piece of Cherry Cobbler which will show through
  • add the Cherry Cobbler layer onto the Gumball Green layer.
  • tie Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine around the layers and tie in a bow.
  • add the layers to the card front
  • stamp the images in Gumball Green and Cherry Cobbler and punch out with Mosaic punch and 3/4″ circle punch – add to the front of the card with dimensionals
  • add Rhinestones to the ornaments

I didn’t actually add a greeting to this card but you could add one at the bottom and/or the inside.  This was the Make&Take project at my team meeting on Saturday night.  I really like the negative/positive aspect that you can create with all these coordinating products in this Mosaic collection.

Come back for more Mosaic Madness – once you get started its hard to stop using this collection.

Snowman Tea Light Tags

Take a look under our tree –

snowman-tea-lights

These cute little snowman tea lights were an idea from Becky Roberts.  They are just adorable and I decided to turn them into tags.  The little battery operated tea lights are the base with the “flame” as the snowmans nose.  I turned them on and put them under the tree.  Very fun!

It’s Christmas Eve – I hope everyone has been good.  Have a Merry Christmas tomorrow!  And I’ll be back on Thursday with a fun color challenge for Create with Connie & Mary – something to get you read for a New Years party – so be sure to stop back by.

Holiday Cookie Boxes

Here is a quick idea to wrap up some cookies or other treats for a neighbor – Holiday decorated Kraft gift boxes.

cookie-gift-box

I got this cute idea from Jackie Bolhuis.  We made these in my Cookies & Milk class a few weeks ago.  Everyone also made cookies to go inside the box using the Stampin’ Up! Cookie stamps.  If you don’t have much time you can use store bought cookies dough – the gingerbread dough worked really well with the cookie stamps.  Make sure it is a little chilled and that you dip the cookie stamp in sugar each time.

I love the idea of the steam coming out of the mug – that idea came from Ann Schach on a card that she made.

Here are some quick instructions:

  • fold up the Kraft box
  • cut a piece of Designer Paper the width that you want it and wrap it around the box – the ends just meet at the top – they won’t overlap – but that’s ok – and this is just a band so we aren’t actually glueing it to the box
  • cut a piece of matching card stock about a 1/2″ wider that your designer paper, glue the designer paper to it and make crisp folds all the way around
  • punch a hole at each end where the meet at the top of the box and pull some ribbon through and tie in a bow – your band should just slide off the box when it’s time to open it – you don’t even have to untie the bow
  • punch a 2-3/8″ scallop circle and run it through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing folder
  • ink up the mug with Cherry Cobbler ink, use  a cotton swap or blender pen to remove ink from the inside – the part that’s the hot cocoa – then ink that with an Early Espresso Marker- now stamp it on some Very Vanilla card stock, cut it out with the matching framelit
  • ink the steam up with Early Espresso and stamp it on some Vellum card stock, cut it out with the matching framelit – then trim the bottom flat, use a mini glue dot to attach it to the mug
  • add the punched circle and mug to the front of the box with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • And finally add a Rhinestone to the mug

Fill with some cookies or other treats.  The Kraft Boxes from Stampin’ Up! are food safe.  But I still wrapped up the cookies in some plastic wrap so they would get the box dirty.  You could also add a piece of paper on the inside for decoration too.

And just a quick family note for you – Friday afternoon I took Ryan to take is driving test and get his driver’s license – yes the youngest member of the family was about to be a legal driver.  The line was so long and even with an appointment (which didn’t seem to matter by the way) we waited forever.  Finally it was Ryan’s turn and the testing lady came back with a young girl who was in tears – apparently she did not pass.  She came up to Ryan and said – “well it hasn’t been a good day” – oh no – not really what you want to hear. I got out and told her that hopefully her day would improve now and she smiled and got in the car with Ryan.  Off the went and left me waiting and being a nervous mom – he was ready and is a good driver and knew everything – but still he was a little freaked out because of the girl in front of him crying. After a while he came back and as he walked up I saw the grin on his face!  Yeah – good news!  He passed with a 100!  And the lady was much happier – told him he was the only one all day (and remember we were there in the late after noon – it was almost 5 by the time she got in the car with him) that aced the parallel parking, and the only on she gave a 100 too.  And she said he did so well that when he went back in he should make sure they give him a key chain.  So yeah all the boys are now legal to drive and I no longer have to be mom’s taxi service – time to celebrate!

Merry Christmas!
