“Reclaimed Wood” Skinny Pilgrim

I have another edition of my “Reclaimed Wood” Skinny cards.  Just in time for Thanksgiving it’s a Pilgrim!  I made this little guy for my last Card Maker’s class and he was a big hit.

Here are a few tips for making him:

  • The card base is Basic Gray – it’s a 3″ wide card and the brim of the hat is 4-1/4″ wide – so he will fit in a regular envelope if you want to mail him out.  He would be cute for a place card too.
  • The hair is cut with the Fringe Scissors.
  • The gold foil buckle on his hat is the small letter o from the “no.” that is part of the Little Number Thinlits. And the black centers of the eyes are the centers of that same little o.
  • The white part of the eyes are the small pumpkin shape in the Square Pillow Box Thinlit set – trim off the stem.
  • For the mouth I traced the Stampin’ Mist bottle
  • The rosy cheeks and nose are a cotton swap dipped in Pink Pirouette ink.
  • The bow is from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits die set.
  • The notch in the collar is made using the top of the Tree Punch.
  • Faux stitching is added with a Project Life Journaling Pen.

I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with you and your family.  I have all three of my boys back home.  Kyle flew in from California last Thursday.  Ryan flew in from Indiana Sunday night.  And Tyler came over too (he doesn’t live too far away).

Don’t forget this week is the Online Extravaganza – Click Here for the list – or shop online in my store.  The Magnetic Platform is on the list and so are a bunch of the dies for the Big Shot!

There are new Weekly Deals posted today and there is always the Clearance Rack.  Do your shopping from home and don’t fight the crowds at the store.

Here are the supplies that I used for my Pilgrim card.

“Reclaimed Wood” Skinny Frankenstein

Are you ready to see one of the Scarecrow’s friends?  Yep – yesterday’s scarecrow has a friend already.  I made this one for my Happy Haunting Hands On class that I had earlier this month.  Here is Frankenstein!

wood-franky2 EThis guy is made from Old Olive card stock – the card base is 3″ wide leaving space for his bolts to stick out the side and still fit in the envelope.  The Woodgrain stamp is stamped with Old Olive Ink – this time the planks are 3/4″ x 5-1/2″.  His hair is a piece of black card stock and again I used the Tree punch – just the tip – to cut his hair.

Then I needed to add all his parts –

wood-franky EThe eyes of course are punched circles – white and BLACK GLIMMER paper!  His bolts and his nose are actually from the Boo to You framelits.  The bone cut in half created the bolts – I used the Silver Foil for those.  The nose is the pumpkin pail with the handle cut off – it makes a funky shaped nose – I did sponge the edges with Old Olive ink and put it on with a Stampin’ Dimensional.  His mouth is a strip of black and then another piece that I snipped with the Fringe Scissors so the pieces were all a bit different. Finish with the black marker for some scars on his face.

I hope you like him!  I’ve already completed another card for this series and have ideas for several more.  I’ll be working on those soon.

Here are all the supplies for Frankenstein. (I’ll go back and add them for the Scarecrow).

“Reclaimed Wood” Skinny Scarecrow

I’m really excited about this card – I love how it turned out.  And after creating this one I decided I want to work on a whole series!  I’ve actually made 3 of them already.  But this is my first one and it is so stinkin’ cute!!

wood-scarecrow EThis card came about after I saw a reclaimed wood project on Pinterest and thought that I could take the idea and create a card.  I liked how the brim of the hat went outside the base of the wood so I wanted to incorporate that into my card AND still have it fit inside the envelope.  So I went with a skinny card!  The card base is 3″ wide instead of the normal 4-1/4″.  The brim of the hat is 4-1/4″ wide – so once you add that piece it’s the perfect width for the envelope.

I wanted the look of real wood planks so I cut my strips and stamped them with the Woodgrain background stamp.  My card base is actually Early Espresso.  I attached the “wood planks” to the card base and left just a hair of a gap like you would see with real wood.

Here is more detail on the wood planks – they are 3/4″ x 2-3/4″ – the hat pieces are Soft Suede and the face is Crumb Cake.  Both are stamped with Soft Suede ink.

The candy corn nose is just strips glued on a piece of Whisper White card stock – I used Hello Honey and Pumpkin Pie.  Then punched them out with the Tree Punch – just the top of it.  I decided to go around it with a Black marker to give it a finished edge.  The nose is added on with a dimensional.

For the eyes you can use different things for the white – I used Candy Dots on this one – from the Neutrals set.  There are also the white Epoxy dots, or punch card stock – but I like the dimension of the dots.

I thought he turned out really cute!  My Stamp Club members and my KSU club got to make this card and it was very popular with everyone.  I also brought it as a swap for the Getaway Trip this past weekend.  Greg and I had a wonderful time on the trip and we wanted to Thank You for the support this past year.  I’ll post more about the trip on another day.

Come back again to see another card in the series.  I’m hoping to create more.

Timeless Elegance

The new Timeless Elegance Designer Paper in the Stampin’ Up! Catalog is really beautiful in person.  The colors are Basic Black, Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla – and the designs are elegant enough for a wedding and soft enough for a sympathy card.  If you want to add a pop of color use a sponge and sponge over the designs in your desired color.

Here is a card that I created –

timeless elegance E

If you need something more masculine there are plenty of prints in the pack that work.

For this card I used Sahara Sand card stock, a square piece of the designer paper and the Sahara Sand Lace Ribbon – it is so soft and easy to use.  Stamp a greeting on the bottom – here I used one from A Dozen Thoughts.  Another stamp set that works perfect for this card is the Chalk it Up to Love Photopolymer set that came in the August Paper Pumpkin kit.  The words and the swirls are perfect for this card too.

Share the Fun: Watercolor Wings Bundle

The first time everyone saw this stamp set there was a big “ooh” from the demonstrators at Leadership.  It was definitely a set that was going to be a big hit.  And when you see that it has Framelit Dies to match that’s a big bonus!  It is a lovely set and allows you to layer the different parts to create all different butterflies.  What I’m sharing with you today is my recreation of the sample in the catalog –

watercolor-wings-card E

Mine is much brighter than the sample so they may have “stamped off” on some of the colors first.  I used the Thick White card stock for the base – if you haven’t tried it you need to – I love it!

The background dots are stamped in Blushing Bride.  The greeting with the Memento Black ink.

My butterfly is stamped with the three layers – the solid base is So Saffron, then the wing edges are Mint Macaron, and the center detail is Delightful Dijon.  I cut the butterfly out with the framelit and then stamped the center body with Smoky Slate.  I found that when I tried to stamp the body before cutting it was ALWAYS in the wrong place – so do it after you cut.

I also cut out a Vellum butterfly with the detail die.  Then stapled that to the stamped one along with a little bunch of the Gold Thread.  Use dimensionals to add to the front of the card.

Just a little sneak peek

Do you want to see just a little sneak peek from the Holiday Catalog that starts on Sept. 1st?

I already have orders ready to go for Sept. 1st – are you ready with your order yet?  I’ll be up early on the 1st keying those orders in so they can get back right away for everyone that wants to get busy with Holiday crafting.

I tried hard not to buy this set during the demonstrator pre-order but it is so cute – I gave in….

Acorny-thanks E

It’s a bundle with a matching punch – who can resist that?  The set is called Acorny Thank You and has a matching Acorn Builder punch.  If you buy them together as a bundle you save 15%.  For this card I used the new Corrugated Paper – that’s the top of my acorn.  I also tried out a splatter technique that they showed us at convention.  That would probably be a good thing for a video.  I’m working doing another one of those soon.

Well I was just dropping in to say Hi!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.
