I’m really excited about this card – I love how it turned out. And after creating this one I decided I want to work on a whole series! I’ve actually made 3 of them already. But this is my first one and it is so stinkin’ cute!!
This card came about after I saw a reclaimed wood project on Pinterest and thought that I could take the idea and create a card. I liked how the brim of the hat went outside the base of the wood so I wanted to incorporate that into my card AND still have it fit inside the envelope. So I went with a skinny card! The card base is 3″ wide instead of the normal 4-1/4″. The brim of the hat is 4-1/4″ wide – so once you add that piece it’s the perfect width for the envelope.
I wanted the look of real wood planks so I cut my strips and stamped them with the Woodgrain background stamp. My card base is actually Early Espresso. I attached the “wood planks” to the card base and left just a hair of a gap like you would see with real wood.
Here is more detail on the wood planks – they are 3/4″ x 2-3/4″ – the hat pieces are Soft Suede and the face is Crumb Cake. Both are stamped with Soft Suede ink.
The candy corn nose is just strips glued on a piece of Whisper White card stock – I used Hello Honey and Pumpkin Pie. Then punched them out with the Tree Punch – just the top of it. I decided to go around it with a Black marker to give it a finished edge. The nose is added on with a dimensional.
For the eyes you can use different things for the white – I used Candy Dots on this one – from the Neutrals set. There are also the white Epoxy dots, or punch card stock – but I like the dimension of the dots.
I thought he turned out really cute! My Stamp Club members and my KSU club got to make this card and it was very popular with everyone. I also brought it as a swap for the Getaway Trip this past weekend. Greg and I had a wonderful time on the trip and we wanted to Thank You for the support this past year. I’ll post more about the trip on another day.
Come back again to see another card in the series. I’m hoping to create more.
Oh I just love this! I’ve been after my husband to make me one of these out of wood. I’ll probably have to just makes these instead.
I didn’t think I could get my husband to make me a wood one either so I made this instead!
