Sep 20, 2011 | Birthday, Cards, UDI Color Challenge |
Have you used Glossy White card stock lately? I know I haven’t. But it was one of the very first things I was shown when Stampin’ Up! was first introduced to me. Remember the rainbow ink pads – we used one of those with Glossy card stock and it was a real wow all those years ago. Well the rainbow ink pads are no longer in our catalog (I’m not sure if they are still around elsewhere) but the Glossy card stock still is.
I was working with it for a project I am creating for the Ustamp with Dawn & Friends Paper Parade class and had a piece lying on my craft table when I pulled up this weeks UDI Color Challenge. So you know what day it is – Tuesday. Ryan was hoping it was already Wednesday – he is in Driver’s Ed school this week – all day long for 4 days in a row and he was ready to be done before it even got started.
Well let’s move on to the color inspiration that Gretchen picked our for us this week so I can show you my card.

How is that for some bright inspiration – Peach Parfait, Melon Mambo, Lucky Limeade, Garden Green and Daffodil Delight. What to do with that I wasn’t sure….but I remembered that piece of Glossy White card stock on my craft table and pulled all my ink pads out in those colors. I needed a stamp set but which one – the inspiration piece has a lot of circles so I decided on Circle Circus. And that I would just make a colorful birthday card. So here is the result –

I stamped the Happy Birthday with Jet Black StazOn and colored it in with Stampin’ Write Markers. The rest of the Glossy White is stamped with the various circles from Circle Circus in the different challenge colors. It is all just random. Then I layered it on a piece of Garden Green card stock, tied a piece of Peach Parfait ribbon around and attached to the base which is Peach Parfait. Really a quick and simple card.

Sep 3, 2011 | Big Shot, Birthday, Cards, Mini - Love Notes |
Back to the Mini Cards…..
This first card was a swap that I received at convention from my friend Linda Madison.
It is such a beautiful little card. The technique is a marker technique – you color directly on the stamp with the Stampin’ Write Markers. For this card the leaves are Old Olive and the flowers are More Mustard and Poppy Parade. After you are done coloring you re-moisten the stamp by huffing on it. Then stamp on the paper. The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes. A thin mat of Poppy Parade was added between the stamped piece and the base.
This next card uses the cute stamp Elebration from the A la Carte section of the catalog. I love this little guy….
Somewhere around the age of 10-12 I started collecting elephants. I had many in my collection from all over and all different types. In one of my school classes we even hand carved a stamp and guess what mine was – an elephant – that was so long ago and who would have thought then that now many years later I would be stamping every day. I still have that elephant stamp in my craft room – maybe I need to put some ink on it and make a card with it. Or at least take a picture of it to show everyone on my blog. While I don’t really collect new elephants any more I still am drawn to them and tempted to buy every stamp set that I see with an elephant I am tempted but I haven’t actually done it. I did however get this little guy since he was all by himself – he is cute for birthday or baby and I have a couple of other ideas for him that I have yet to try out.
Anyway on to the card itself. The base is Old Olive with a layer of Pacific Point that was embossed with the new Stripes Textured Embossing Folder. I don’t think you can see it well in this picture – but there are stripes on it. I stamped the elephant on Whisper White card stock using JetBlack Stazon ink. When I watercolored him with an aqua painter and watercolor crayons – a little bit of grey and some pink in his ears, bottom of his feet and tail. Then I cut him out. I also stamped again on patterned paper – the cake on a striped piece and the balloon on a polka dotted piece and cut those out just exactly on the outline and pieced them on top. The candle is colored just with Stampin’ Write Markers. Here is a close up –
One little trick to tell you is how to cut the small area between the arm, trunk and string of the balloon. The easiest way to cut out small places like this is to first punch a hole with the 1/16″ handheld punch inside the space. Then insert the tip of your paper snips and work your way around the space. This is how I do all small spaces rather than just trying to poke the scissors in which tends to bend the paper.
That’s the two I have to share with you today. Have a great weekend!

Jun 17, 2011 | Birthday, Cards, Faux Mother of Pearl, Masculine, Retired List |
This is my current favorite technique – Faux Mother of Pearl – have you tried it yet? It is so super easy your going to say why haven’t I done that before. You need some Frost White Shimmer Paint, Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock, plastic wrap, paper plate or tray, clothes pin, Stampin’ Sponge and Crumb Cake classic ink. This technique was shown in a recent Stampin’ Success magazine (you know the one that all of us Stampin’ Up! demonstrators get each month). They also showed it on colored card stock and used different colors of ink for the sponging part. But this is the card I created so I’m going to tell you exactly what I did for mine.
Speaking of the card – the layout was inspired by another card that I found on a stamping website – I’m not sure who made it though. Mine is a little different from that one and that person mentioned being inspired by a card shown at a regional I think in Australia. So this idea I guess has been around the world…..
This is my card. Another creation for my Last Chance class – the stamp set Sense of Time is retiring, along with the Elegant Soiree Designer Series Paper (one of my favorites from this catalog). The clock is the Faux Mother of Pearl technique and this is how I made mine.
- Crumple up a piece of plastic wrap and then clip it with a clothes pin so you have a handle to hold it by – it’s just cleaner and keeps it off your fingers – you don’t have to use the clothes pin if you don’t want.
- Put some drops of Frost White Shimmer paint on a paper plate. Dab your plastic wrap into it and then dab some off – you want it thinner rather than thick globs.
- Dab the plastic with the paint on it all over your piece of card stock – I used Whisper White for this clock. You just want splotches everywhere. If it is a light layer it will dry pretty quickly. Let it dry.
- Use a stampin’ sponge and Crumb Cake ink and sponge all over the card stock especially in between the shimmer paint.
That’s it. Now you have the Faux Mother of Pearl created. Next stamp your image over it. I used Black StazOn ink for my clock. I cut it out and the sponged the edges of the clock in Basic Gray ink. Here is a close up of the clock face – hopefully you can see the pearl on it –

I also used the shimmer paint on the top portion of the card background. For this I used a sponge dauber to daub the paint onto my stamp and then stamped it on the card stock. I also daubed a little with the plastic wrap too. The center of the clock has an Antique Brad and I used some Crumb Cake Seam Binding on the card too. The “happy birthday” is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.
I’ll be showing you this technique again next week on a scrapbook page and I’m using it on one of my convention swaps. Which I’ll be showing later. I hope you are having a great day!
Thanks for stopping by!

Have you seen this fun idea before?
It’s the Pick A Petal stamp set used to make candle flames. I saw this idea a long time ago where someone took the solid petal to make the flames. I stamped mine in Daffodil Delight. And for mine I decided to add the line petal image in More Mustard so it looked like flickering flames. Not sure it quite does that but it adds some dimension and character to the flames. To finish the candles I used strips from the Celebrations Designer Series paper. The wick is just the Pacific Point Stampin’ Write Marker. I tied some Real Red Grosgrain ribbon around the candles and then added that piece to the front of a Bashful Blue card base. To the left I added some strips from the Celebrations Quick Accents. These self-adhesive die cuts are always fun to use. And finally to finish off the card I stamped “happy birthday” from the Family Phrases stamp set.
This card was part of my Hands-On class last week featuring Last Chance items so you guessed it there are several things I used on this card that are on the last chance list. So if you want them order them quickly by going to my online store. Everyone that places a $50 or more product order will be entered into a drawing for a free stamp set – so click here to get shopping.

This is the funnest card ever! Is funnest even a real word? This card is called the never-ending card and really is fun to play with. I have been teaching this one to my clubs the last couple of weeks. The concept was in an article in the Stampin’ Success magazine – which is a monthly magazine for Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators. I love getting mine each month and reading it and seeing all the ideas and samples but it is even better because there are lots of online extras for us too. What makes this card so much fun is that when you open it you do it over and over again and it rotates all the panels until you are back where you started. So you can just play with it because it is never ending.
Here is the front of my never-ending card –
I used the Play Date Designer Series paper – which is on the Last Chance List (link is at the end of this post) and it is even on sale so you can get a great deal on this paper right now – but hurry before it is gone. From here it opens in the middle and you fold each side outward to get to the second set of panels.
One of the stamp sets that I used is Family Phrases – I tried to add one of the little phrases on each panel so every time the next part of the card is opened there is another message. This stamp set is also on the Last Chance List (link is at the end of this post) – which I am bummed about because I use it a lot – I love the fun font that they used on this one. And it coordinates with the All the Family sets. From this part of the card you fold the two sections with the number paper out away from the center and it opens up more to get to here.
The other stamp set I used was the Forest Friends and it too is on the Last Chance list. This is the cute set with the bunny and the tree and also has a deer and owl. I like it because I like nature sets and this one fits in that theme. Now you take the card and again fold outwards from the center and it takes you to here:
Here is the birthday message and a place to sign the card. Then if you flip the panels again you go back to the front in the first picture.
I added the owls that are punched and dressed with the Play Date papers – they really made the card fun. You can make their eyes look in different directions to add some character to them. And while this looks like it would be really complicated to make it really isn’t. The key is to take your two pieces of card stock (5-1/2 x 4-1/4) and score each one according to the diagram below and then cut them. Then it’s just a matter of gluing them together in the right place and folding on all of your score lines. I assemble the card first and then add all the decorations. Here is the diagram -click on it to see a larger view.
Where the yellow spots are is where you put sticky strip. Keep those two pieces together on the table just like it is shown in the diagram – then take the other two pieces (the ones on the right in the diagram) and basically lay them right on top attaching the corners with the sticky strip. When you flip and fold – only fold on the lines that you scored don’t try to create new folds (they will be in the wrong place) – if it wants to fold somewhere it should it’s because one of the pieces needs to be flipping out of the way.
Everyone has had so much fun making this card! I hope you do too.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Jun 2, 2011 | Big Shot, Birthday, Cards, Retired List, Sale-A-Bration 2011, Summer Mini 2011 |
So far I feel like I’ve had a productive day. Got up and showered, got Ryan up and off to drum line practice, went to the post office, stopped by the bank, picked up dry cleaning, checked my email and the SU website. Now I’m writing my blog post and its still before 10. Maybe that’s a good sign that I’ll get lots done today. I have to get my Stamper’s Club Projects ready. I finally decided on the last project about midnight last night and went to bed. So today I’ll cut everything and have it ready. Tomorrow I’ll be gone all day with Tyler – we are headed to KSU for his orientation and hopefully by the time we leave he’ll be registered for Fall classes, have his ID and parking pass – that would make him officially a college student. They sure do grow up fast!
So enough about that let me show you this super cute little birthday card I made.
It is a little party hat card made from the Petal Cone Big Shot die. You cut your card stock with the Petal Cone die and trim off the two scallops and the little flap on the side. That gives you the triangle shaped hat. I cut a piece of the Celebrations Designer Series paper (it’s on the Last Chance list) to get just one of the triangles – trim off any extra from the petal cone shape. Then I punched the edge of a strip of Real Red card stock with the Scallop Border punch and added it to the base of the hat – trim the sides to match the hat.
To decorate I cut a number ‘5’ (choose whatever number you need) using the Big Shot and the Simple Numbers die. I tied a piece of the White Bakers Twine (in the Summer mini) around it and attached it to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. At the top of the hat I went with a Pacific Point button (from the Sale-A-Bration button set) – also tied with some White Baker’s Twine.
It is a cute little card. Do you want to make one? Then you should come to my Card Maker’s Club on June 29th. Everyone is welcome to come! We had a great time in May. There were 11 different card designs to choose from in May. For June I will be adding more and taking a couple of them away. You can choose to make the cards that you need out of what I have available. Your class fee of $15 includes 6 cards plus envelopes. I hope to see you there!
Have a great day and try to stay cool – we are supposed to be in the high 90s today.
