“Reclaimed Wood” Skinny Snowman

He’s here.  The third card for my “Reclaimed Wood” collection.  I have more ideas to work on but this is the third one – a Snowman.  The other two – the scarecrow and Frankenstein I’ve already shared.  This one I actually created two versions – one I used for my Christmas Card Stamp-a-stack that I had last week and the other was a slightly stepped up version that I did for a swap group.  So let me introduce the Skinny Snowman –

reclaimed-wood-snowman E

Isn’t he fun!  And you might never guess where the eyes and nose come from or the trick for the mouth so I’ll tell you!  I used the Square Pillow Box Thinlits Dies – the little decorative pieces for the details on this snowman.  There is a little strip with tiny pumpkins – snip off the stem and ta-da you have some tiny oval eyes!  Then the little strip with the trees – snip off the trunk and then you get the little pointy nose!  I also used the snowflake element to decorate the hat.  To create his smiley mouth I used my Project Life Journaling pen and traced one of my button containers – it was just the right size and shape to give him a big smile.

This is a skinny card – the base is 3″ wide – Basic Black and then I cut Whisper White strips which are stamped in VersaMark ink with the Hardwood Stamp – it is really light and in real life looks like white-washed wood.  The brim of the black hat is a 4-1/4″ wide strip – so once you add that the card fits perfectly in our medium sized envelopes.

Here is my stepped-up version.

Can you see the difference?  It’s not easy to see on the photos but I added some embossing.  I stamped snowflakes on the top of the hat and embossed with clear embossing powder.  The brim of the hat is embossed with the Hardwood stamp.  Here is a closer look:

it just dresses him up just a bit.  But I left that off when I held my Stamp a Stack class because I wanted to simplify it for them – they had a lot of cards to make that day.  You could simplify even more by leaving off the Jolly & Bright from the top of the hat.

Howl-o-ween Treat Scrapbook Layout

Are you gearing up for Halloween?  My boys are grown now so I don’t have anyone to dress up in a costume – except perhaps my dogs.  But they would not like that at all.  I’ll have to go on the search for some old Halloween photos that I haven’t scrapped yet and add them to this fun scrapbook layout.  I was a vendor at a scrapbook crop earlier this month and designed this layout as a mini-class for the croppers.  All my seats were full!

Trick-or-treat-scrapbook E2

I used the Howl-o-ween  Treat stamp set and the coordinating Boo to You Framelits.  I also used the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper, the Spider Web Doilies and Black Glimmer Paper.   A couple of little details that I included –

  • The BOO! and the Witches Hat are both cut from the Black Glimmer Paper
  • The eyes on the owl are punched from the Star print designer paper – same as the strip used on the page.
  • I used the Very Vanilla Thick Baker’s Twine – took a piece and untwisted the 3 main strands.  Then I used one on the little Pumpkin Bucket Handle and the other two around the witches hat.

A layout all ready to add fun photos from Halloween – if not from this year then from a previous year.

Fun Halloween Treat Containers

In September I had my Fall Stamp, Scrap & Create Retreat.  I love to hold these retreats and spoil those that come with fun little surprises throughout the weekend.  To start the event I like to have some type of container that serves a couple of purposes.  One it has their name on it so they know where their crafting spot is when they arrive – and it’s a fun little welcome.  Plus since its a container it can hold some basic supplies that they need to carry around when we do our make&takes.  And it’s cute and fun!  For this years Fall retreat I found some fun containers at a local store – black little cauldrons!  I decorated them up by adding a cute little tag.

caldroun EI used the Howl-o-ween Treat Stamp set and the Boo To You Framelits to make this cute tag.  The owl is stamped in Rich Razzleberry and the little pumpkin in Bermuda Bay.  I had wrote everyone’s name on their little pumpkin.  I also added the “hello” from the Greetings Thinlits which I stapled across the owl.  The tag is tied on with Bermuda Bay Thick Baker’s Twine.  And the eyes – I added some wiggle eyes – these are old ones from Stampin’ Up! that are self-adhesive – but you could use the new FIne-Tip Glue Pen to add some regular ones from the craft store.

Inside each cauldron I added a Pen that I lined with some of the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper, a bottle of the new fine-tip glue (we used that for our make&takes), a piece of Stampin’ Sponge, and a floss threader.  As they moved around through the weekend they could stick in their paper snips and snail or anything else they needed to carry around to the make&take tables.

These little cauldrons would be fun filled with treats for the kiddos this Halloween too – or for a teacher’s treat or party favor.  See what other little containers you can find and add a fun tag too.

It was a fun weekend!  Here is a picture of our little fall group.

Quick & Easy Witches Broom Treat

Take Two!!

Yes I wrote this whole blog post was at the very end and apparently pushed something that made the whole thing disappeared!  I couldn’t even find it saved as a draft.  GRRR!  So I’m writing again.  Which means I will probably not give as much detail as I did the first time.  Anyway the project I wanted to share was this cute Witches Broom Treat.  It is really easy to make using our Fringe Scissors!

witch-broom EI used individually wrapped twizzlers – the red ones because those are the ones I like to eat.  You just need a strip of the Happy Haunting Designer Paper.  I put a score line across it where the “bend” is between the top fringe and the bottom fringe of the broom.  Along that score line on the back of the paper put a piece of Tear & Tape.  Then use the fringe scissors to fringe both sides – but DON”T cut through the tape – just up to it.  Then take of the backing on the tape and wrap it around the twizzler sticking it to itself as you go around – wrap as tight as you can.  Fluff out the fringe.  For me these actually stand up!

I finished with a tag made from the Project Life Seasonal Snapshot 2015 stamp set and the Tags & Labels Framelits.  I tied my tag on with a strand from the thick Baker’s Twine – the whole thing was too thick for my liking so I pulled it apart – just untwist it.
