May 14, 2010 | Big Shot, Cards, Create with Connie & Mary, Summer Mini 2010 |
I already showed you the little gift box I made at Pam’s workshop last week so today I’m going to share the make-n-take project that everyone made.
This is my version of a card that was originally created by Wendy Randall. I made a few little changes to it. I changed the base to Old Olive and added the Melon Mambo panel that was textured with the new Stampin’ Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
I do have to tell you when I saw this folder in the Summer Mini catalog it really didn’t look like anything at all. So I did not order it. But then I started seeing samples of this really cool embossed background and wondered where it came from. Well it was the new embossing folder! So you can’t always tell by the picture in the catalog what it looks like in real life. So I had to order it and I finally got it. This was my first card with it. You really need to see it in person.
The other change was that I added the linen thread and the little flower on the side. I like this card because the little squares look like window panes. We used the square punches to create that look – the 1-1/4″ punch was used on the Whisper White with the stamped images from the Tropical Party stamp set. The 1-3/8″ punch was used to punch the colored mats – So Saffron, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive. Then the squares were arranged on a larger Chocolate Chip square.
Isn’t it a fun little summer card that could be used for any number of things? I hope you like it.
If you want to see more great project ideas featuring products from the Summer Mini Catalog then join us at Create with Connie & Mary. Last week we featured the tropical items, this week the travel items. Next week think flowers and fairies. There is a new project every day – at least two tutorials each week (I think so far there have always been more than 2) – a chance to win prizes by playing along with our weekly challenges. Come back tomorrow to see the designers Challenge projects for this week.

May 13, 2010 | Big Shot, SU Ribbon, Summer Mini 2010 |
Last weekend I had a workshop at my friend Pam’s house. I wanted to show them the Big Shot and make a quick hostess gift. So this is what I came up with…

I used a piece of Kraft card stock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Fancy Favor box die. Before I assembled the box I stamped the front and back and both sides with the large floral image from the Elements of Style stamp set. I used Chocolate Chip ink and also sponged the edges of the box with Chocolate Chip ink. I assembled the box and added a quick handle made from Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon.
On the front I used the Two-Step Bird punch in Really Rust to create my bird – sponged, of course, in Chocolate Chip ink. I also added a little tag using the “for you” stamp from the same set. It is tied with Linen Thread to the handle.
This project fits the Late Night Stampers Challenge for this week – Make it from the Mini. Speaking of the Summer Mini we are having lots of fun with the summer mini at Create with Connie & Mary – and its not too late to join us.
Thanks for stopping by!

May 12, 2010 | Easter, Wood Sheets |
At our Weekend at Wendy’s we actually did some basket weaving! Yep we had a beginner lesson in weaving our own little basket using the Wood Sheets from Stampin’ Up!.
This project was created by Laree. We started with the wide strip of wood sheet and used an Aquapainter and Chocolate Chip classic ink to stain it. That was set aside to dry while I worked on the weaving part.
First we laid 4 strips down and then wove 4 strips through – this created the base – so the weaving was all in the center with the extra hanging out each side. These side pieces were bent up and then a longer strip gets woven around to create the sides. And then another long strip gets woven through the sides. Loose ends are held down with mini glue dots.
Then the wide Chocolate strip gets wrapped around the top and attached with mini glue dots. Then we added the brads and ribbon handles.
I think my brads should have been more towards the corners – I had them too close to the center. Several people made suggestions on what to put in the basket – one was the paper flowers (like I showed yesterday), another was the little paper strawberries (I saw that idea at convention last year and I’m sure it is on a blog somewhere). It could be an Easter basket or a picnic basket.
Just think you can stain the wood any color that you want – I think that is pretty cool. And the other neat thing about this wood is that it has a paper backing on it which makes it easy to shape and bend when you need to.
I hope you like this little project that Laree created.

May 11, 2010 | Punch Art |
At our weekend at Wendy’s we made some wonderful projects. Today I want to show you the paper flowers we learned to make.
This was the project that Michelle Scileppi designed – she always creates beautiful projects.
We made three flowers – the purple one is the Scallop Circle Punch, the yellow on is the large Star punch and the Red one is the Five Petal Flower punch. For each one we punched 5 layers. Then we sprayed them with water and wadded them up. Next we un-wadded (that probably isn’t a word but oh well) them and layered them together. Then we stuck them on a piece of floral wire.
Now the work is forming all the petals so they look like flowers. Michelle’s looked just like real flowers. Mine don’t look quite that good – more like little squished flowers but you get the idea. The little pom-poms were glued in after the paper dried.
It is a cute little project and would be fun for little center pieces at a special spring event. She also showed us one made with the small daisy flower from the Daisy#2 Big Shot die. I want to try to make one of those – but haven’t done it yet.
I hope you have a flower filled day!

May 10, 2010 | Cards, Graduation, Summer Mini 2010 |
Two weekends ago I went to a stamping retreat at my upline’s house – she calls it Weekend at Wendy’s and I think this is our 3 or 4 year to do this. It is such a fun weekend of stamping and sharing with a group of women that have the same passion that I do. There were 10 of us this year from Georgia and Texas. Our weekend included a shoebox swap, a group meeting with a card swap and we made fabric purses. So for the next little while I’ll be sharing projects from our weekend.
I’m going to start with a graduation card that we made as part of one of the shoebox swap projects – we created a card holder using one of the Thoroughly Modern file folders and a couple of cards to go inside. My son, Kyle, is graduating in just a few weeks so I have Graduation on my mind.
This card was designed by Nancy Hewitt and uses the new Go, Graduation stamp set and the Happy Grad stamp that is sold individually in the back of the Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini catalog.
The card opens and has a pocket to hold cash or a check to give to a Graduate. The stamp with all the feet works perfectly for this card. I love it and plan to make some more in our school colors for friends that we need to give gifts to.
Have a great day!
