I wanted to make a photo project for my niece for her birthday. Since she was turning 5 today (Happy Birthday Ally!). I wanted it to be something that was durable enough for her to handle and play with. So I decided to create a My Digital Studio swatchbook because it comes with the plastic covers on the front and back and the pages are a sturdy weight.
In the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini catalog there is a Designer Template called Twitterpated (#125615) and I decided that would make the project quick and easy. The hard part was getting all the pictures together.
The template is 26 pages or 13 front and back. It included photo boxes on the fronts and some journaling lines on all the backs. I decided to fill the photo boxes on the front using them just like they were in the template. I opted to delete the journaling lines and leave the backs with just the designer paper and embellishments.
On the very last page I did include a note that said it was made with love by Aunt Monika.
On the cover I added punched letters to spell her name and then played around with filling them with different designer papers but I ultimately decided to use part of a photo instead. Can you see what I filled the letters with? I used the same photo of Ally on the cover and then for each letter positioned it over her dress – so its like patterned paper that matches my picture exactly!
The swatch book is an assortment
of pictures from her whole life – from the day she was born up to our trip in December. Then for each page I added some little quote or saying to go along with the pictures – so were already part of the template and others I either pulled from stamp sets that I have in My Digital Studio or I added as text boxes.
Throughout the book she can find her cousins, her grandparents, her parents and brother, the new puppy, and of course Aunt Monika had to be included too.
I also added the month and year of the pictures on each page so that we knew when they were from. She changed a lot in 5 years.
One important thing when you create a swatchbook – turn the bleed guides on! Then you can see where the hole will be for the rivet and also where the book will be trimmed around the edges. I made sure the quotes and dates and important parts of the pictures were inside my bleed areas.
I hope you like this little My Digital Studio Project. If you would like to try the software out for Free you can go to my website and download a free 30 day trial from my online store. Have fun creating!

Feb 22, 2012 | Big Shot, Cards, Occasions Mini 2012, Sale-A-Bration 2012, Thank You |
Have you earned any of the Stampin’ Up! Sale-a-Bration items for free yet? This is a set you might want to get – it’s called Outlined Occasions.
This was a quick card to make using strips of Designer Series Paper from the Everyday Enchantment paper (also a Sale-A-Bration item). You could easily use strips of any paper that you have. I used the Stampin’ Write Markers that matched the colors in the paper to color the Outlined Occasions word. There are three word choices – Thanks, Celebrate, and Love. Any of them could be used on this card. I stamped the word first with JetBlack StazOn ink on Whisper White card stock. Then cut the word out with one of the labels from the Framelit Labels Collection (in the Occasions Mini Catalog).
The coordinating phrase was stamped on Lucky Limeade card stock and punched out with the Modern Label punch. I added some Rhinestones as accents.
The background is Crumb Cake and the colors I used that match the paper are Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, Peach Parfait.
Sale-A-Bration continues through the end of March. For every $50 of product that you order you can choose 1 Sale-A-Bration item for Free. If you’d like to see the brochure CLICK HERE.
Thanks for visiting today!

Up Up & Away Birthday Layout

Up Up & Away Birthday Layout
This layout was based on a sketch I found on Pinterest (there is a button on my side bar if you’d like to follow me). I thought it looked like a fun birthday layout. I used the Up, Up & Away stamp set with the Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper. The clouds on the background were made using a scallop circle punch as a stencil and then sponging with Baja Breeze ink. All the balloons are stamped on a separate piece of Whisper White card stock and punched/cut out (see this post for a tip) and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The baskets are stamped on the the background. I made this as a birthday layout but it could be many other things. One of the papers in the Just Add Cake pack looks like notebook paper and I used that piece for the journaling banner. For my sample I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment but you could also just write your journaling on the whole banner.
I hope you can make to scrapbook class this week (if you live near me that is).

Many people like to have a small calendar on their desk so they can see the month at a quick glance. You don’t want it to be too small that you can’t see the days but you don’t want it too large either because then it takes up lots of space on your desk. This years 2012 calendar is just that. Now that we have the latest Calendar update in My Digital Studio the calendar part is easy to create and you can change the colors of the month, days, lines, numbers to match the rest of the calendar project – the card stock and designer paper. This year I used the new Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper from Sale-A-Bration – the colors in the paper are Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, Peach Parfait, Calypso Coral, Poppy Parade and Soft Suede.

2012 Jan - Mar Calendar
The base of the calendar is Soft Suede. It is basically like a card with three months of the year on each of the four sides of the card. For each side I added a strip of the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series paper at the top. On the bottom are the three monthly calendars layered on a coordinating piece of card stock. Since the calendars were created using My Digital Studio I was able to match my colors to my project. Notice on Jan – Mar I was able to use Pool Party for the months and numbers which matches the paper.

2012 Apr - June Calendar
I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslit and the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit to cut butterflies and hearts to decorate the tops of each side.
To finish I tied some of the Organdy Ribbon in the Everyday Enchantment Sale-A-Bration pack around each side – Lucky Limeade on one side and the Calypso Coral on the other. Tie so that you have a bow on one side, then cut another smaller piece of ribbon and use it to add a bow to the other side – then you have a bow for each season.

2012 Jul - Sep Calendar
The hearts and butterflies are on dimensionals and you can dress up the butterfiles with brads or pearls or rhinestones.

2012 Oct - Dec Calendar
When assembling each side leave a gap at the bottom of the center month. Then cut a strip of card stock that will be used as the stand to keep the card from sliding apart and falling. My strip was maybe 1″ wide and 5 or so long and then scored twice to create a ‘U’ shape. Stick the ends inside those gaps between the card stock layers and it will hold your calendar up.
Have a nice day! After a rainy weekend we have sunshine today.

Feb 17, 2012 | Big Shot, Cards, Occasions Mini 2012, Sale-A-Bration 2012, Vintage |
Happy Birthday to my Mom! I’ll be spending the day with her today. But here is a quick post to show you the birthday card I made for her.
Hopefully I’ll get to her house and give it to her before she see’s my blog. This card may look a bit familiar if you follow Shelli Gardner’s blog – she is the head of Stampin’ Up! and this card was on her blog. This card uses some new items in the Occasions Mini Catalog – Elegant Bird Bigz Die for the Big Shot and the Pleated Ribbon in Baja Breeze. And there are two products from the Sale-a-Bration brochure – Fresh Vintage stamp set and the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series paper.
The paper has Lucky Limeade but I actually used Certainly Celery for the card base and the button. The bird wings are embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder which is hard to see in the picture. To attach the Pleated Ribbon I ran a strip of snail across the base of my card stock and then attached the ribbon to it – rather than trying to put adhesive on the ribbon itself. This has worked for me. Sticky strip is another option. There is also a piece of stamped twill tape.
And speaking of birds – its that time of year where the birds are house hunting and if you have followed my blog over the past few years you know I blog about the birds in my yard throughout the spring. I’ve been noticing a woodpecker checking out the woodpecker house – so I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll have a nesting woodpecker this year. This week I also noticed some chick-a-dees going in and out of one of the houses – its the same house they used last year – so maybe they will be back. No activity on any of the other houses right now.
Happy Birthday to you mom! I love you!
