Owl Occasions

Hi stamping friends!  I have some fun news to share today.  I was asked last week to be a guest designer for the Create with Connie & Mary Holiday 2012 Edition online class.  This week is the Sneak Peek and Early Bird pricing.  You can get free projects this week during the Sneak Peek and if you would like to join the class this week there is Early Bird pricing for $24.95.  Plus the opportunity to win a free class pass.  So make sure to check every day this week for more details at Create with Connie & Mary.  Preview week started on Sunday with a super cute Fall Broom center piece – it would match my card for today just perfectly.  And on Monday was a fun (and tasty) Halloween Tower of Treats.  I may just have to adapt that idea for Tyler’s birthday tomorrow.  He’ll be 19!  If you want free tutorials for either of those projects or the others that are posted this week be sure to visit the Create with Connie & Mary site.   And if you want more projects (they won’t be posted anywhere else) be sure to join the Holiday Class.

How do you like this fun card?  The idea with the paper triangles was shared with me out in Utah by Sandy Rule.  For this card I used the new Orchard Harvest Designer Paper from the Holiday Catalog.  Cut a piece of each pattern – start with a rectangle – I think mine were 4″ x 1-1/2″.  Then cut each one into two triangles.  Then glue the triangles into the sunray pattern on a piece of card stock and trim around anything that is outside the rectangle.  I sponged everything with Early Espresso card stock (and believe it or not I ran out of Early Espresso card stock – Chocolate Chip to the rescue for my party on Sunday).  Linen thread for an accent around the layer.  I used Teeny Tiny Wishes for the “Happy Birthday”.  I stamped the Owl from Owl Occasions in Early Espresso and punched it out with a circle punch.  And added one of the little gift boxes in Cajun Craze.  Then punched and layered two of the blossom punched flowers from Cajun Craze card stock.  And the belly of the owl is paper pieced – I stamped him on a piece of the designer paper and cut it out and layered it on the stamped owl for the card.

I also decorated the inside of the card – here it is –

This was one of the projects the girls at my Getaway Celebration party got to make on Sunday.  Have a great day!

Stampin’ Up! Getaway Celebration Party

Yesterday I had my Stampin’ Up! Getaway Celebration Party.  What a fun afternoon it was!  I wanted to have a celebration party for everyone as a Thank You for helping me earn my first incentive trip.  Today I thought I would show you the decorations and things for the party.

First I made a bunch of paper flowers – using the idea from page 70 of the Stampin’ Up! Annual catalog.  My color palette came from the colors in the Patio Party Designer Series paper.  I arranged the flowers in mason jars that were filled with beans and then tied some of the matching ribbon around the mouth of the jar.

I baked little mini cupcakes and made cream cheese frosting – yum!  I used My Digital Studio and the template from the Patio Party Collection DVD.  I printed out the little flag banners for my cupcake picks – I just replaced the “Happy Birthday” with “Thank You”.  I printed it at home on Whisper White card stock – I cut them and scored in half then glued to the top of a tooth pick.

I also cut strips of the Patio Party Designer Series paper and then punched out butterflies from the card stock left from the flowers.  I wrapped the water bottles and glued the butterflies to the front.  They were really cute.

I also made cookies using the Sweet Pressed Cookie stamps from convention.  I made lots of Thank You cookies which everyone used to make a project and then I had all the others out on a plate.  I used the Sugared Shortbread cookie recipe that comes with the cookies stamps.  By the way most everyone that I have showed these too is surprised out how big these are.  In the catalog they seem smaller. They are 2-3/4″ diameter – so it makes a large cookie not a small one.

I also made an Almond Chicken Cheese Ball which is a favorite for everyone.  The recipe makes two large cheese balls and we finished the first one and made it half way through the second one.  I’d say everyone loved it.  And many people asked for the recipe.  I had actually posted it on my blog a long time ago – here is the post.

Here is a picture of all my food –

I had some little parfaits – yogurt, brownie bites and raspberries.  And finally I made corn dip – here is the recipe for that:

CORN DIP

2 cans (15 oz) Fiesta Corn, drained

1 can (4 oz) Chopped Green chilis (I don’t always use the whole can)

10 oz. pkg shredded cheddar cheese

8 oz. sour cream

1/2 cup mayo

1 Tbs Cumin

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (or less)

1 1/2 Tbs Chilli powder

Mix & chill overnight.

Serve with Tostito or Frito scoops.

Yum.  Yum.

I know I had a fun afternoon and I’m glad so many people were able to make it.  I’ll share the projects we made on another day.

Googly Little Mummy

One of my favorite things in the new Holiday catalog is the Googly Ghouls stamp set and the Googlies!  Self-adhesive googly eyes – how awesome is that!  Oh how I wish we had these years ago when we were putting eyes on school projects and scout projects.  Why did it take so long for someone to do this?  And you may have missed it in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog but you can buy just a sheet of the eyes without having to buy the Ghoulish Googlies Designer Kit – yep – the sell as a sheet of 50.   And now on to a card I made – this was my swap card at my PAWS meeting last time.

I stamped the Mummy and did just a hint of water coloring with Crumb Cake ink – which you can’t really see in this photo, but you can tell in real life.  Punched him out.  Punched out a scallop circle from Tangerine Tango and then punched is again to get the pointy edge instead of the scallop edge.  And don’t for get to add the googly eye on the mummy.

The Old Olive piece is embossed with the Chevron Embossing folder and I cut a strip of Tangerine Tango with the Big Shot and the Tasteful Trim die.  I snipped off the corner of the card so the Boooo could peek out from the inside – I added googly eyes to it too.  And I used the new striped black/gray ribbon on this card also.

So ‘Boo” to you!  Have  a nice weekend!

Create with Connie & Mary and My Digital Studio 2

What do you do when you have to run out of town and still have a project that you need to create?  Since you can’t grab the craft room and stamp in the car – you grab your laptop and create with My Digital Studio in the car!  With my Create with Connie & Mary sketch and My Digital Studio 2 I was able to create this scrapbook page in the car.

Here is the CCMC215 sketch so you can see what I started with –

I just added the shapes from the sketch using photo boxes and a punch.  I wanted to keep the rounded corners.  And with My Digital Studio 2 it is super easy to added them to your photo boxes – there is a new feature to round corners and you pick which corner you want rounded.

Another new feature is being able to re-color embellishments – so the antique brad in the center of my flower was recolored to be Wisteria Wonder.  It’s very subtle but its there.  This picture is in front of the Stampin’ Up! corporate office in Riverton, Utah.  We were able to take a bus out there on Wed of convention week.  It was such a fun trip.  I know I still owe a video from last weeks challenge card – I’m hoping to get to that next week – being gone for two days has thrown me way behind.

All the supplies are listed below – using another new MDS2 feature – the supply list.  Have you tried creating with My Digital Studio?  Did you know there is a free 30 day trial?  I’d love to see what you can do with it.  Visit Create with Connie & Mary and submit your creation for this weeks challenge – each week 3 top creations are selected.  Each challenge is open for a week.  And then a new challenge will be issued.
