Mar 20, 2014 | My Digital Studio, Virtual Crop |
How do you get together with people all over the world and hold a crop? You use something that connects people from all over the world together – Facebook. Earlier this year when all of our Digital crops kept getting cancelled due to bad weather Cindy and I decided to hold a Virtual Crop using Facebook. I set up a group called MDS Virtual Digi Crop.
Then we invited our friends that use My Digital Studio and normally come to our digital crop plus some others that didn’t seem to ever make it in person. We picked a time and had our first Virtual MDS Digi Crop. It was so much fun we wanted to do it again. So our second one was held on March 18th and we invited more people and talked a bit about on our social networks and this time we had people joining us from not just all over the US but around the world!! How exciting is that!!! Lara joined us from Ireland, Lisa R. popped in to say hi from Japan! Plus our local folks and then others from various states across the US. It was so exciting to have everyone play along.
So I thought I would share about it here on my blog (and I may have already mentioned back when we did it the first time) but now I’m inviting you to join our group too! The plan for now is to do this once a month and our current date for the next one will be April 15. But the group is open all the time and I’m going to do a bit of organizing so you can see the challenges and play along at any time. For the March event we had two challenges – mine was to create a Facebook Cover photo using at least 2 photo boxes and a custom sized project – it could be for your personal Facebook page or a business one (or make one for each). Here is mine for my personal page.

And now that I have the perfect custom sized project I’ll be able to easily create something new whenever I want. And so will everyone else that played along. Everyone loved the challenge.
The second challenge was Cindy’s and she wanted us to use the Freeform Line tool and the Freeform Brush tool. She shared some instructions and links to videos. We had some minor technical difficulities with those links – but if you went directly to My Digital Studio.net website they ran fine from there. I was so busy answering questions, saying hi as people joined, liking and commenting as people finished that I nearly didn’t get Cindy’s challenge done. I had a first version right as we were ending but then posted an update version that I liked better. I’ll probably do a little more tweaking to it but it’s generally done.

Perhaps you would like to join us next time. If so you can ask to join our group on Facebook and when we have the next Event you will get an invite to it. I hope to see you there!

Mar 19, 2014 | Big Shot, Cards, Lovely as a Tree |
How long has it been since you stamped with Lovely as a Tree?
It is one of Stampin’ Up!s top selling stamp sets and I recently pulled it out to make this card.
I also pulled out a color that I hadn’t used recently – Always Artichoke. It’s been a while.
This is a “window” card. Well that’s what I call it – since I cut a “window” out of the card front with a framelit and my Big Shot and the stamped image is underneath it. Stamp on the Whisper White piece and layer it on the inside of the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Before you add the white use the Paper Piercer, the Piercing mat and the template to match the framelit to add the piercing around the frame.
I stamped a simple sentiment and added some Linen Thread. A quick and clean card. I hope you like it.

Mar 16, 2014 | Cards, Punch Art, Sale-A-Bration 2014 |
When Skies are Gray like today you need a little pick me and this little card might be just the right thing!

We have had pouring rain ALL day so it is a very gray day here at my house. Everyone is home – no golf for Greg today. I was sort of waiting to post this card on a rainy day and I guess this is it. This card was part of my Sale-A-Bration class last month. I have seen many people make the sunshine using the little Banner Punch – this is my version. I went with a Summer Starfruit colored sun – I used the Sweet Sorbet Designer Paper for the center of the sun and then used the Banner punch to make the sun rays. Here is a tip for how I added the rays to the circle – think of a compass and add one banner at North, East, South and West. Then fill in between each of those with two banners. That was the easiest way for me to get them somewhat evenly spaced around the circle.

One of the many cards that I saw with this sunshine idea included clouds made from the Cupcake Punch! What a great idea – I’ve actually used that before – remember the stamp set with the hot air balloons from last year – I added clouds to that one. But sometimes you forget until someone triggers you. My clouds are Smoky Slate on this card.
The stamp image is from the See Ya Later stamp set. I used Stampin’ Write Markers to color the stamp, but also stamped the large Happy in the Summer Starfruit so it could be cut out and popped up.

You make me HAPPY when skies are gray. What a nice thing to say!

Mar 14, 2014 | In Colors, Occasions Catalog 2014, Sale-A-Bration 2014, Scrapbook Pages |
I created a scrapbook layout with the Sweet Sorbet Collection from Sale-A-Bration. I used the Sweet Sorbet Designer Series paper and the Accessory Pack along with the See Ya Later stamp set. Here is my 2-page 12″ x 12″ scrapbook layout.

The colors included are Crisp Cantaloupe, Pistachio Pudding, Pool Party, Sahara Sand, Summer Starfruit, Basic Black, and Whisper White. Here are some closeups of the clusters of elements….

After I took out the cork pieces that I was using I decided to try punching out from the scraps that were left. I was able to use the Itty Bitty Punch pack and punch extra little flowers to add on my page. I just used a Black Marker to add a dot in the center of each flower.

There is a punched heart border across the layout with flower sprinkled in. The flowers are from the Petite Petals stamp set and matching punch.
I tied bows with the colored Baker’s Twine from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory pack and added them to my page with glue dots. To keep the ends from unraveling I tied little knots.
A couple of the In Color Boutique Details were added to the page too – Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding were part of my color scheme. If you have been a Paper Pumpkin subscriber you would have received a free gift of these in one of the last few kits – I think they came in the January kit.
The page is ready for pictures and journaling to be added. What do you think about the layout?
Thanks for stopping by.
