It’s time to Create with TIny Tags and Itty Bitties

It’s time for a new Color Challenge at Create with Connie & Mary . – that means it’s Thursday.  Plus you can get daily inspiration right now if you join Create with Connie & Mary Spring 2013 Online class.  They are show-casing items from the Stampin’ Up! Spring catalog plus Sale-A-Bration!  Lots of great ideas and its not too late to join.

So here is this weeks color challenge –

2013 Thursday Challenges-001

All three are from the 2011-2013 In-Color collection – so I thought about having Baker’s Twine in all three colors.  Then I remembered a card I saw on Pinterest that used Baker’s Twine and tiny tags – it wasn’t a Stampin’ Up! card but I knew I could recreate the idea with my Stampin’ Up! products.  So here is my version.

Here are some details on this card –

  • card base is Island Indigo with a layer of Calypso Coral and then a layer of Whisper White
  • I stamped three little tags from Tiny Tags – one in each color – Lucky Limeade, Calypso Coral and Island Indigo and punched them out with the Jewelry tag punch and punched a hole in the top with the 1/16 handheld punch
  • On the Lucky Limeade tag I stamped a tiny butterfly from the Itty Bitties stamp set in the Spring catalog
  • On the Calypso Coral tag I added a bitty flower punched from the Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack with a small Rhinestone in the center.
  • I added the matching Baker’s Twine to each tag – tying just a piece with a knot to be attached to the back of the card and then using a second piece to tie a bow at the top of the tag.
  • I stamped “wishing you a wonderful day” on the white card front in Island Indigo ink – I did use my Stamp-a-ma-jig because I wanted to be sure it was straight
  • I placed the tags on the white card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then attached the Baker’s Twine to the back before attaching it to the front of the card.

But there’s a little bit more – I decided I wanted to dress up the inside – I had a piece of scrap paper on my craft table that had a piece punched out of it and it made me think I could add a Whisper White layer to the inside of the card with the Jewelry tag punched out of it.  So here is what it looks like –

I stamped the bitty butterfly and added a small Baker’s Twine bow.  Just a fun little addition to the inside!

Heart #7 – Hanging Hearts

I found this cute idea on the internet on the glue dots website.  These are really easy to put together with strips of designer paper – and perfect for those that like to see both sides of the paper.  Hanging hearts…

hearts-hanging

I used the More Amore Specialty Designer Series paper from the Stampin’ Up! Spring catalog.

  • Cut 1″ wide strips – you need two 4″, two 6″, and two 8″ plus a 6″ strip for the center – on the left heart I used card stock and on the right heart I used another piece of the designer paper.
  • heart-stripsLay the strips out as shown in the photo – the 6″ single piece is in the center, then the 4″ on either side, 6″ on either side and 8″ on either side.
  • I used Sticky Strip to glue the bottom end together – now pay attention to the patterns on the paper – you can either have the same design on either side facing out or do them opposite (mine have one done each way) – and also look if the pattern has an up and down design – like hearts and decide how they will look as either the outside or inside will be upside down.
  • heart-endsNow add a little piece of sticky strip to each of the other ends and start with the inside strip (the 4″ ones) and curl them in toward the center strip and attach to form a heart.  Then do the same with the 6″ strips and then the 8″ strips.  Forming a heart around the smaller one you just made.  You can change the hearts based upon where you attach the ends on the center strip.
  • heartsTo finish I punched a hole in the top of the center strip and added some Baker’s Twine as a hanger.
  • Put some Baker’s Twine through a button and add to the bottom of the heart. I used Pool Party twine and the Pool Party button from the Sycamore Street Ribbon and Button pack – free during Sale-A-Bration.
  • Make a bunch and string together to make a garland and hang it up for Valentine’s day.

We made one of these at my Stamper’s Club meeting as a little bonus project.  It was a last minute project that I put together for them.

Heart #6 – A little love from Henry

It’ a little love from Henry the elephant today!  He brings Heart #6 to you today.  Henry Says was the first thing I bought from the Stampin’ Up! Spring catalog.

Henry-valentineI don’t know about you but I think Henry is so cute!  And since I collected elephants growing up I had to add this to my “collection”.   And today I’m have a super cute Valentine card with Henry sharing his love.  Here are the details.

  • Basic Gray card base
  • Layer of Pool Party card stock
  • Layer of Very Vanilla – stamp Henry on the Very Vanilla in Basic Gray.  Then stamp the hearts in Primrose Petals – the hearts were so easy to stamp so that they looked like they were pouring right out of Henry’s trunk.  I colored the outlined hearts with a Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Write marker.
  • Stamp the Happy Valentine’s Day(from the Wacky Wishes Hostess stamp set)  in Primrose Petals.
  • I cut a strip of Primrose Petals card stock and embossed it with the cross stitch folder from the Needlepoint Textured Embossing folders (do that with the Big Shot)
  • Stamp Henry on a piece of the designer paper from the More Amore specialty pack and cut him out.  And yes I “painted” his toe nails – just seemed like they needed it.
  • Not sure why but I seem to always want to tie something on his trunk – so I did – a piece of Pool Party Baker’s twine and a heart shaped Bitty Button.

henry-heart

This was the card I made as a swap card for my PAWS team meeting in January.  Hmm – now I’m wondering if I shared all the swaps from the meeting – I don’t think I did that yet.  I must have shared the make&take projects.

Have a happy day!

Heart #5 – Chalkboard Frame

Did you love the cute Chalkboard Frame on page 11 of the Stampin’ Up! Spring catalog?  I did and I tried to recreate something like it for my Hands on Class last month.  The frame isn’t as fancy –

hearts-a-flutter-frame

And my original plan was to have an actual chalkboard in the frame to write on.  I planned to take the glass from the frame and cover it with chalkboard paint – well that plan didn’t quite work out for my class – I didn’t realize how long the paint needed to dry between coats and I needed several coats on the glass – so I’ve got two coats on the glass pieces now but they aren’t as smooth as I would like so I think I need to add one more coat with a roller probably – I’ll work on that this week.  Anyway for the class I went with plan B (it’s good to have a plan B and sometimes plan C).  Here are the details on the project the way we made it in class –

  • On a piece of Basic Black card stock stamp the quote in VersaMark ink and emboss with white embossing powder.  I let everyone choose their own quote – we used the Pursuit of Happiness set and also Word Play (You’re in My thoughts, you’re in my heart”
  • Layer the black on a Piece of Pool Party card stock
  • stamped the images from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set and cut them out with the Hearts a Flutter framelits – colors are Primrose Petals, Pool Party and Basic Gray
  • strung all the pieces on Whisper White Baker’s twine and added to the card stock before putting it in the frame.
  • added a Vintage Faceted button and a Rhinestone for decoration

If my chalkboard glass works out – I’ll re-post with what that looks like.

Plus for February Stampin’ Up! has released a new stamp set, designer paper and a digital kit called – Sent with Love – it has the AIRMAIL feel to it – I remember getting mail in those red/blue envelopes from our family in Germany when I was little – I don’t know that they still have those envelopes but I guess a long time ago maybe you had to use those.
