Create with Connie & Julie – Challenge

It’s the first Challenge for the Create with Connie & Julie – Occasions Edition class.  Our challenge this week is a theme challenge – Valentines Day Cards.  During our preview week we are featuring the following products from the new Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog: I (Heart) Hearts stamp set, I (Love) Love Wheel, and the Corduroy buttons. Here is my entry for this weeks challenge:

I used the I (Love) Love Jumbo Wheel – it was wheeled on the background of the card using VersaMark ink and covered with clear embossing powder and heat set with the heat tool.  This card features a heart shaped “window” that I made using sticky strip and clear micro beads.  You need the love bird image (from Love You Much stamp set) stamped in Black StazOn ink (except the heart color with a Real Red Stampin’ Write marker) and colored with an Aquapainter and Real Red ink on a piece of Whisper White card stock. To get the two shades of color – color the birds once with the  aquapainter and Real Red ink – let it dry and then go back over the wings again with more color until you have the desired shade.   Then you need the front of the window which is made with Basic Black card stock and the Heart from the Stampin’ Up! Punch Windows Magnetic Movers & Shapers die for the Big Shot.  I used the Movers & Shapers Curly Label Die and instead of cutting a full card I placed the Heart in the open area and covered it with the Black card stock.  The edges of the black square are distressed with the tool from the cutter kit.  Once you have these two pieces then you can create the window.

On the Whisper White card stock use Sticky Strip to cover the image – place the strips right next to each other to cover the entire image that will show through the punch out window.  Next place the Basic Black card stock piece on top of the white piece position so the image shows through the cut out as desired.  Place this inside a Powder Pal tray and sprinkle Clear Micro Beads on the window – pressing them into the sticky strip until it is completely covered.  Shake off any extra beads that didn’t stick.

To finish the outside of the card I added small dots with a White Gel Pen around the heart and in the corners.  In the top left corner of the black square I punched out with the Horizontal Slot punch and then tied a piece of the Red Polka Dot Ribbon through it.  Attach the square to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

To finish the inside of the card cut a piece of Whisper White card stock and punch with the Full Heart punch from the bottom corner.  While it looks like I stamped directly on the back of the card I actually stamped on an extra piece of Real Red card stock and glued it behind the window.  It was much easier to get it in the right place that way.  I added the dots with the Real Red Stampin’ Write marker.  The “love you much” is from the new Well Scripted stamp set and the small “LOVE” heart is from the I (Heart) Hearts stamp set both are stamped with Real Red ink.

To see what the rest of the team did with this challenge visit the Create with Connie & Julie site.  If you haven’t signed up for the class do it right away so that you’ll continue to have access to more wonderful ideas.

Thanks for stopping by today.  And you may have noticed I highlighted all the supplies in red instead of re-writing them as a list – I hope that’s ok.

And now more about my cute little project – I had something different in mind and when I started with my first idea things just started heading in a different direction. I ended up with this cute little Hugs & Kisses holder using some new Stampin’ Up! products from the Occasions Mini Catalog instead.

Are you wondering where the “hugs & kisses” phrase came from on the little tag?  It’s on the I {Love} Love Jumbo Wheel.  I just used a Real Red Stampin’ Write marker to color just that part of the wheel – wheeled it on Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the large oval punch.  Cute isn’t it?  You have a whole bunch of different ways to say “Love” using the parts of that jumbo wheel.

To make the little holder I cut a Scallop Square using my Big Shot and the clear die.  Then I used my paper trimmer with the scoring blade to score in between every three scallops in both directions – it creates a tic-tac-toe board.  Then on the four corners make a diagonal score from the outside corner to the inside corner.  Now fold on all the score lines – punch holes in the four diagonals and pull a piece of ribbon through to tie it shut.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

Stamps: I {Heart} Hearts, I {Love} Love Jumbo Wheel

Ink: Real Red ink & Stampin’ Write marker, Chocolate Chip ink

Card Stock: Real Red, Whisper White

Accessories: Sending Love Specialty Designer Series Paper, Big Shot die Cut Machine, Scallop Square Clear Bigz Die,  Red Gingham Ribbon, Stampin’ Sponge, Paper Trimmer w/Scoring Blade, 1/8″ hand held punch, Heart to Heart Punch, Small Heart Punch, Large Oval Punch, Scalloped Oval Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you like it!  We will be making this project at my January I {Heart} Hearts class.

Leave me a comment today for a chance to win a Free Pass to the Create with Connie & Julie class – good luck!

A Double Challenge

One more quick post – I was trying to complete another challenge that has a deadline of today and then decided to double it up for one that has a deadline of tomorrow.  So I’m going to go ahead and post it tonight so I can submit it to both of those blogs.  I’m not a 100% happy – i already thought of one change that it probably needed but I’m not going to do that now.  I want to go watch Ga Tech in the Orange Bowl and I only have a few more minutes before that starts.

Ok – challenge #1 is from the Artistic Avenger Blog and it was to use a Christmas stamp set in a non-Christmas way.

And the second challenge is the Stamping 411 Blog sketch challenge – the sketch this week looks like this:

And here is the card I made real quick – it uses the Punch Pals stamp set – it is the Christmas set with the snowman, tree, penguin, and several others that fit various Stampin’ Up! punches but I created a Birthday card with it.  For the sketch I turned it on its side since I used the tags and they fit better in that direction.

The colors are Pumpkin Pie, Taken with Teal, Sahara Sand, and Whisper White.  I used the new Sweet Pea Designer Series paper with it too – I had to get a new product in there also.

And one non-su product would be the orange staples that hold the ribbon on.

It needs some work still….off to link to the challenge blogs and then on to the football game.

Garden Thank You

So today I took a break from Valentines – well actually I did a Valentine project this morning but I’ll be posting that one on Wednesday – make sure to come back.  But this afternoon I worked on a non-Valentine’s project.  I also tried another sketch challenge – called Mojo Monday.  I see this mentioned all the time in our yahoo groups where we share our projects but I haven’t tried it before.  So this is my first Mojo Monday sketch attempt….here is the sketch

and here is my card…. instead of the brads I used a greeting in that spot.

I used four new Stampin’ Up! products: the Garden from the Heart stamp set, Satin Ribbon, and the Scallop Trim Border Punch, and the Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper Stack.  All of these are available to order beginning tomorrow – January 5th.

Here is a complete list of Stampin’ Up! products that I used for this card:

  • Garden from the Heart stamp set (Occasions Mini Catalog 2010)
  • Thank You Kindly stamp set
  • Taken with Teal card stock
  • So Saffron card stock
  • Pumpkin Pie card stock
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Chocolate Chip ink
  • Black StazOn ink
  • Watercolor Wonder Crayons: Earth Elements, Rich Regals
  • Aqua painter
  • Big Shot die cut machine
  • Scallop Circle #2 die
  • Circle Scissor Plus and Glass mat
  • Scallop Trim Border Punch (Sale-A-Bration 2010)
  • Sweet Pea Designer Series Paper stack (Occasions Mini Catalog 2010)
  • Chocolate Chip satin ribbon (Occasions Mini Catalog 2010)
  • Linen Thread
  • Stampin’ Sponge
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals

I’m going to like this new gardening set.  And I do have it in the new Clear-Mount version which worked so nicely on the new Stampin’ Up! Clear blocks.  I cut the white circle first and then stamped the image – it was easy to position on the circle with the Clear-Mount option.  Happy Stampin’!

Card Challenge – CPS 148

I just made this quick Valentine card for a sketch challenge on a new blog I found called Card Positioning Systems.  Sometimes when you are creating you need a little jump start and a sketch can often help.  Here is the sketch for the challenge:

It is a very simple sketch so that makes for a quick card.  I decided to do a Valentine card since that is what I had on my craft table.  In fact – I only used items I already had out on my table.  So it made the card even faster since everything was ready to use.  Note to self: Goal for 2010 – try to do a better job of cleaning up after you are done with a project so your room doesn’t turn into such a mess.

Ok – on to my creation –

What do you think – quick and sweet isn’t it?  And I used four new products from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog – I {Love} Love Jumbo Wheel; Well Scripted Stamp set; Chocolate Chip 5/8″ Satin Ribbon; and Pretty in Pink Corduroy Buttons.

I am trying to take some of my photos outside on my back porch.  The sun was already setting and it is windy today so I had to hold the card and snap a quick photo and grab it before it blew away – it took me about 4 tries to get a picture of it.  I wanted to try the natural outside light and see how my pictures turn out.  What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by!
