Hangin’ With My Gnomie

Gnomes.  Do you like gnomes?  I’m not sure.  When I see gnomes or hear about gnomes I actually think of my grandmother.  I don’t really remember much about her; I was young when she died; she lived in Germany; didn’t speak English; and we didn’t see her that often.  My mom says she did come and stay with us for maybe a month or so at a time but I guess I was young enough that I don’t fully remember that.  But I do remember that she always brought gnomes with her from Germany when she came to visit.  We had them in our yard and back them they weren’t plastic gnomes – they must have been made from clay or something and probably painted.  I imagine my mom still has some in her attic – I will need to ask her.

I also think of my niece, Emily, because a couple of years ago she bought herself a gnome – you know the travel site gnome – and she takes it with her and takes pictures of it everywhere.  So when we took our trip to the mountains in NC a couple of summers ago the gnome came with us.  When I saw that Stampin’ Up! had a new gnome set the first thing I could think of was making a scrapbook page with Emily and her gnome.

This layout is for the contest at Leadership for the Gnome Sweet Gnome stamp set.

It is an 8×8 layout.  The picture is Emily with her gnome – Gnarlin.  We were eating at a restaurant somewhere in NC and I took this cute picture.  I did use the border to cover the bottom edge of the picture which has the empty dishes in the foreground – they needed to be hidden.   I used the Twitterpated Designer Series paper – the Riding Hood Red and Basic Gray prints.  I added the little bow at the top and included the little hanging lantern stamp –

Tonight I’ll be attending the Manager’s Reception – it will be my first time to go.  I’m so excited.

Candy Conversations

I’m crossing fingers that there is no traffic or very little, that we get to the airport, through security and our flight has no problems.  I was a bit irked with the airline because when I made my reservations I had a flight that left after 11 am so I could leave my house after the morning rush hour traffic.  But they move my flight up by more than an hour and it leaves before 10 am now and that means I have to leave my house before rush hour traffic.  And our rush hour lasts more than an hour around here.  So I’m up before dawn and Diane will be up even earlier since she has to drive to my house and she is even further away.

Here is another card for you – this one uses one of the new A La Carte stamps in the Occasions Mini Catalog – it’s called Candy Conversations.  I created this as a contest entry and also as a general swap card.

I also used the new Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folder – the strip with the hearts – on this card.  I’m also planning to add this card to my Card Maker’s Club – it will be one of the options for the January class on the 25th right after I get back.  The Cherry Cobbler panel and each of the little hearts are popped-up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.    And I did use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to align the “Be Mine Valentine”.  I also made a punching template using my grid paper to line up punched circles so they would be spaced evenly across the card front.  To make each subsequent card I laid the template on top of the cherry cobbler layer – traced inside the circles, move the template and then punch around each circle.  You could just punch through the template but what I found is that if I was even a hair off with my punch it would punch my template and be going through 2 pieces of card stock which makes it difficult to punch and left frayed edges.  So tracing inside the circle template and then aligning my punch around the pencil marks worked better for me.

Final Leadership Preparations

I am making final preparations to leave for the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Conference early tomorrow morning.  And part of that is setting up some blog posts for this week to show you some of the things that I made and will be taking with me to swap.  One of the best things about a Stampin’ Up! event is the swapping.  Meeting new people, getting lots of ideas and seeing old friends are all part of swapping.  There are generally two kinds of swapping going on – organized swaps – where someone plans a particular swap around a theme, type of project, or product and there are a set number of people swapping.  I am signed up for several of these.  And then there is general swapping – where you just swap like projects with whoever is around you and you make as many as you want to swap.  I have some of these too but not as many as I do when I go to convention.  The organized swaps that I am in include a full card swap with the UStamp class girls, a treat wrapper swap – I’m in two groups for this one, and a scrapbook swap.  I haven’t done a scrapbook swap before so I’m anxious to see what kind of layout ideas I get.

Of and something new that they added to our event is a contest – for every stamp set in the Occasions Mini Catalog they will choose a winner from the contest entries – so I was attempting to make a card (or scrapbook page) with every stamp set from the Mini Catalog that I have.  And surprisingly I have a lot – and most of them I earned free one way or another – I think I only bought two stamp sets.  I haven’t finished making everything I wanted for the contest entries but I’m hoping to get a few more done – the more I enter the more chances to win.  And they will put them up on the display boards to share with everyone too.

So now onto something to share with you today…..

This is one of my contest entries and general swaps.  It uses the new Take it to Heart stamp set and the Hearts Collection Framelits Dies.  I really love these Framelit dies – I hope we have more when the next catalog comes out this summer.  I also used the Loving Thoughts stamp set – all the words in that set fit inside the banner that comes with the Take it to Heart set. The banner does have to be cut out by hand – no punch or die for it.

I’ll be back here tomorrow with another project but I really be traveling to Texas.  It should be a fun and busy week.

Dogs need Valentine’s Too

Don’t you think your dogs should have Valentine’s too?  They can give them to their doggie friends and doggie sweethearts!

I found these teeny tiny milk bones and they fit in the 1″ x8″ skinny cello bags – which by the way are still available on the carry-over list.

So I decided to make doggy Valentine’s – look at these –

How cute!  Here is a close up look at the tag –

The base of the tag is a Soft Suede circle – its the 2-1/2″ Circle punch.  I stamped the ‘V’ from the Occasions Alphabet set using JetBlack StazOn ink.

Then on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock I stamped the little dog from Friends Fur-ever stamp set along with the little heart in his mouth.  I water-colored with the Aqua Painter. I used Sahara Sand and Riding Hood Red ink.

The little heart at the top is Riding Hood Red card stock – first I punched the small heart in the card stock, then I put it on my Big Shot cutting pad and cut it again with the smallest heart from the Hearts Collection Framelits dies in the new Stampin’ up! Occasions Mini Catalog.  I tied the tag and heart to the top of my cello bag with a piece of Soft Suede ribbon.

Cute don’t you think?  Are your dogs ready to make Valentines?

Take it to Heart

Here it is – a card with new Stampin’ Up! products from the Occasions Mini Catalog – plus a sneak peek from Sale-A-Bration too!

This new stamp set is called Take It to Heart and it coordinates with the brand new Hearts Collection Framelits.  What are Framelits you might ask?  I’m so excited about these Framelit Dies for the Big Shot.  They are thin, wafer-like dies that let you see where you’re placing the design before you cut!  You can layer the dies inside each other to cut frames, or cut single hearts for layering.  I used two sizes here – one for the stamped image and one for the Lucky Limeade layer – there are 6 total sizes.

The image is watercolored.  The ribbon is part of a ribbon-brad pack that you can earn for free during Sale-A-Bration which starts later this month.

Happy Birthday Wishes sentiment is from the Petite Pairs stamp set in the big Idea Book & Catalog.  I added some of the pearls for accents – in the bird eye, the letter ‘i’ in birthday and around the edge of the heart.  The base of the card is Crumb Cake.  Enjoy!

Sneak Peek for the UDI Color Challenge

I have a couple of sneak peeks in my UDI Color Challenge card this week.  The new Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog will be starting on January 4th.  There are lots of fun new products in there!  So today I’m going to show you a little peak at two new stamp sets.

The first is the cherry image – it comes from the Mouthwatering stamp set.  And second is the greeting – “you’re so sweet” – it comes from the Sweet Cake stamp set.  Both are part of the Sweet Shop Product Suite.  The card base is Real Red, then a layer that is part More Mustard and part Garden Green.  I tied some Very Vanilla Satin ribbon where the two colors meet.  I also add some paper piercing in the corners.  Stamp the greeting and then add the cherries – stamped on Very Vanilla and cut out.  I used my Stampin’ Write markers to color the stamp.

Here is the inspiration picture for this week –
